Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

nope, doesnt work

same here since the complete pack only has costumes
Passed on the killing floor bundle. Grabbed the base game with coupon for 1.50.

Would anyone recommend/give their thoughts on Dungeon Defenders and Magicka? They're on sale at Amazon and I'm wondering if they're worth getting to play 2 player co-op. Also decided to get Killing Floor because L4D2 is fun.
I highly recommend dungeon defenders.

It is like tower defense/ 3rd person action/ RPG/ with loot. Armor, weapons, and pets all can be farmed (and then upgraded) giving this game crazy re-playability. It is even better with a friend. One of the games I most played last year and im still waiting on the dlc.
That's a real game? *boggles*

The description makes it sound like you basically play a guy sitting around waiting for his date to show up and driving himself nuts with anxiety over it.

I'm all for unique and different games but not sure about this one.
Am I the only CAG who has played Dinner Date?

I don't recommend it, unless you are a fan of this sort of non-game. Trauma is another example of the genre, and the new Dear Esther (released today, I believe) falls in the same category, too.

Playing Dinner Date is like watching a 20 minute interactive movie. Motoki, your description is pretty much dead-on. There are some things about it that are kind of clever; subtle jokes that you only notice were there when the show is over. But it is certainly not a game, even under the broadest of definitions. Is it "art"? No, I don't think it's art, but I'd call it "artsy". A kinder term might be "experimental".

Amusingly, the character in Dinner Date has a printed-out episode of Dinosaur Comics tacked to his fridge. That cracks me up.

The answer to both is HELL YES, but for wildly different reasons. In all honesty, I haven't played either one solo because I can't imagine it being anywhere near as fun. Dungeon Defenders is great fun planning out who defends where with what, while Magicka is just fun because you can thunderbolt your friends into gibs.

Odd. I just exited a game via Steam and one of those ad pop-up appeared, indicating that it will be a free weekend for MW3 (multiplayer only, of course). Since it's technically Wednesday morning, someone at Valve might've been a bit trigger happy and pulled the gun on this (as weekend deals usually appear around Thursday)?

Or maybe I just haven't slept all night and now I'm a bit delirious. x_o

There are certainly fans of the genre here, since a few people here have added Dear Esther to their wish list. There is something to be said for what are basically interactive novels. (Hey, after seeing the trailer for To The Moon, it had me tempted to get it.)

But yeah, Dinner Date seems a little mundane.

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely interested in To The Moon, but being a CAG that I am I'm waiting for a sale or for it to end up in a bundle. Dear Esther I'm kind of on the fence about but again if it were cheap enough or in a bundle...

I'm open to experimental games and interactive movies and such but still I think I'd like a little bit more than watching someone sit at a table for 20 minutes. I'm sure it has its fans, but games like this make me wonder how Valve makes their selection process and why something so very niche like this gets picked but some seemingly more traditional games don't. Maybe it was the award it won. :p

To The Moon isn't on Steam, so really our only hope for a deal is a bundle. As for Dear Esther, I can see the Myst crowd being attracted to it.

Probably it is. But, it isn't much of a selling point when you say you have 20 minutes of dialog.

After passing on the the Killing Floor numerous times I bit. Just wish I bought it sooner as the game is a lot of fun and I find myself wanting to level up the perks. This and Terraria I consider to be two games I love but never would have even given a thought to if not for the sale.
Indeed.

lol x2 when you consider how bad the game is supposed to be.
lol x3 when I know for a fact how bad the game is!
Glad I looked here first then before I considered buying it, passed
Well if anyone simply must have it in spite of all warnings, You can get it for $1 along with 3 other games and a bunch of game music albums

http://www.indiegala.com/
Glad I looked here first then before I considered buying it, passed
If you have even the slightest interest you can get it in the Indie Gala bundle with 3 other games. If you pay 65 cents more than the Steam deal price you get 5 more games, most/all better than Bunch of Heroes.

Do you think valve gets the dailies by Pulling a name out of a hat? Why on earth would they put this game as a daily when it's available for a dollar in a bundle and at only 50% off. Forget that the game is terrible....this was just a bad idea. I hope it's a name out of a hat or the dart board method for choosing and they don't actually pay a marketing guy.

I'm trying to check out that Be Mine Bundle and the site doesn't even work. It says "Sorry, we can't find "groupees.com"." and then has a bunch of porn links. I thought it was relaunching today at 9am.

Epic bundle fail.

There's some chatter about it in its own thread.

I got this message at the site. so maybe check back in a couple hours?

We are working to transition to our new server schema to support the overwhelming interest in this bundle. Please check back soon.
lol x3 when I know for a fact how bad the game is!
Agreed. I felt ripped off when I paid a $1.xx for it during the holiday sale daily deal when I got in on a 4 pack for it.

The thing is with these Groupees clowns the same exact thing happened yesterday. They got overloaded, promised to upgrade capacity and be able to provide bundles to everyone the next day. Well here way are the next day and now the are saying tomorrow again.
That redirects to groupees.com :p
I'm so confused, I'm sure it was a holding page earlier

I'm gonna kill pixels until it sorts itself out.
I had it on a reload yesterday of every 5 seconds and i never saw porn.
You brought their site down! :p

Just kidding...maybe.

Somehow I have this image that their server is a Commodore 64 in someone's mom's basement.
The site is groupees.com/bemine... mine hasn't redirected to any porn... you sure that isn't your computer/default search engine?
I got what looked like a legit error message with their logo by following your url, different than what I was getting before. I got the other url from google searches and a bunch of website articles about the bundle. I don't see how all those different sites got the address wrong but oh well.
You brought their site down! :p

Problem is I didn't start doing it until the site was already down. Sure I may have contributed but I didn't cause it. Because of it I did manage to get an order in yesterday.
I had it on a reload yesterday of every 5 seconds and i never saw porn.
What? Why?

And to think I felt like a douche for refreshing the page every 2-3 minutes. No wonder they had so much load on their servers. Auto reloading it every 5 seconds is crazy. It's not like you were calling in to a radio station trying to be the 8th caller.

Did you really need to get the bundle the second it went live?

Edit: didn't see your post above. Doing that after they went down isn't as bad, I guess. I can kinda see that.

Off topic, but the thread in the PC forum is kind of dead - Anyone here know a lot about building computers? I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction with my first ever build but I'm a little overwhelmed. Picked up so many dirt cheap steam games in the last couple years, figure it's about time I get a good rig that can actually run them all haha. If someone could chat me on steam or something and point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. My name is Millertime2325. Thanks a lot :)

Oh I know. It's their own responsibility to be able to keep up with demand, which they themselves helped generate though a long lead up time and a lot of hype.

If that's not possible then they need to come up with good alternate means to stagger the sales without turning people away.I know they were throttling at one point today but if you only let every 10th customer or so in you're turning away a lot of customers that might not come back.

Pre-orders probably would have been the best way to go.

I just built a new PC a few weeks ago and that thread helped me tremendously. The people there are friendly and helpful.

My reloads were doing very little to their servers as they weren't getting a response at all. No holding page just 404s or nothing at all. I didn't need the bundle right when it came out but I already have an auto reload script ready to go with a right click so why not use it? If the page loaded I'd turn it off. It will take much more than that to crash a normal web server.

Add me on steam (link in my wishlist on my signature), I can help you through the basics.
Off topic, but the thread in the PC forum is kind of dead - Anyone here know a lot about building computers? I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction with my first ever build but I'm a little overwhelmed. The thread you're talking about isn't dead; it's just more active at night. Just wait a little bit and you'll get some good, solid advice from people who know their shit. Trust me.

If you PM me your email then I can email you my new egg cart. but without doing that I can tell you that I recommend the i5 2500K CPU and the GTX560ti as a great place to start.

Assuming that you need to do a complete build and don't have any spare parts to use like hard drives etc. you can build a really nice PC with that i5 and 560ti for about $700
