CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I just finished Sniper Elite V2 on Marksman and giving it a run through on the hardest difficulty. I suck at anything stealth too. On Marksman I was able to just kill every single enemy every time without the need to stealth too much. Just masking shots with bombs at times but there are some levels that are HARD to try to charge through. Love the game though. Probably will get frustrated on the highest difficulty, especially since headshots are next to impossible until you get used to the scope. Great game, recommend it to all.
I think I remember recommending Death to Spies awhile back when you bought up Sniper Elite..I take it back now though stay far, far, far away from that game. I haven't played it yet but it is regarded as a "Hardcore Stealth" game. Even on easy I hear its a challenge.

Though I've seen that you can like go guns blazing but the AI is horrible when you do that so you can just like hide in a box and gun them down as they appear so not really challenging or fun then, due to the AI being designed to be all about making stealth more realistic and challenging.

Just in case anyone saw me recommending Death to Spies after they talked about Hitman and Sniper Elite
Those do not have keys. So long as you have any DLC maps in the Challenge section you are good. Also if you beat the game (or use the code) to access the skins when resuming the game you should be fine.

I do not have the codes listed but have the content.
Thanks, so there's a way to use the skins early?
Fish Tycoon isn't a surprise. It's just crap. It's midly entertaining crap, but it's crap nonetheless.

It's like similar Facebook fish-raising simulations, only more poorly done.

And I"m still playing it, for some reason.
How's it compare to Insaniquarium?

Interesting, would've been nice to have seen the post in the sale, but o well, Winter Sale here we come! Added to wishlist so I don't forget :p

Wait, is that a real thing? Cause if it is, I suddenly want it just on name alone

Edit: Crap, it is. Someday, I'm going to have to buy that Popcap complete pack

One reason I like purchasing from Steam is because Raptr will automatically add it to my game list. Wish it would do that for other sites (Amazon, GMG, GG, etc).
Yeah I really should give Desura a try since I have a TON of keys from various bundles
Yeah, it's an old Popcap game. I must have played it, god, what, 10 years ago now? When they were still a web-based gaming company, I think. I remember it being a lot of fun, but can't really remember anything else about it.

I've heard they're working on Desura integration since a lot of people have asked for it.

Ah, that takes me back. I remember playing that on my Sony Clie.
Ok, going to get Desura now
One small cool thing is that if you buy IndieRoyale bundles with the same email you register for Desura with, the keys will automagically be linked with your Desura account, no fuss, no muss.
For a while, I strongly felt that way, too. I love the simplicity of organization Steam provides. But as more of these indie bundles provided Desura keys, I figured I would try it out. While it's not as pretty as Steam, it operates largely in the same manner. It's basically the Steam of indie games. I heartily recommend it as a secondary PC gaming space if you are at all interested in indie games.
My favorite thing about Desura is using it as a mod manager, which I admit I haven't done quite as much of as I'd like. I'm a big fan of indiedb.com / moddb.com
Ok, going to get Desura now
When you install it, besides registering indie bundle keys, you can click on the blue Desura logo icon in the upper left, then pull the drop down to tools and then 'find games installed' and it will scan you hard drive for games that exist on Desura.

It actually pulled up a bunch of stuff for me, mostly Steam indie games but also some bigger games that have strong modding communities on ModDB (which is a sister site of Desura).

Scanning doesn't remove them from Steam or anything, you'll still have to bring them up through Steam in most cases if you launch those games in Desura, but I guess I just like having lists to look at. :p

Anyway, it does basically put most of your indie stuff all in one place.

I played this quite a few years back, and I remember it being fun. Might have to pick it up again.
Goddamn it. Went to register on Desura and some asshole stole my username on July 17th.
That's what you get for being snobbish ;)

You know, that functionality isn't working for me and I just checked both Desura and Indie Royale and they have the same email. It's the same one I get emails from both of them too. I just went and connected my Google account to Desura to see if that would help but it didn't seem to.

I wonder if there is a way to force that or re-jigger it or whatever.

I have had Desura for a while and it is great, but I totally forgot how it can "FIND" other Desura games on your system. Thanks for the reminder!

It doesn't matter what email you use to buy the bundle with. You need to be logged into the indie royale site with your desura account when you buy a bundle for the keys to automatically redeem themselves.
That's what you get for being snobbish ;)
Man I guess so. Pretty much no one ever uses this username anywhere though, let alone on a semi-obscure site.

Oh okay I see. That makes sense. I was just in a rush to buy it this morning because I always freak out and worry if I wait too long the price will keep going up.

I just reminded myself I should do a re-scan too after all the stuff I bought over the summer sale.
I've got a spreadsheet just like that! O my god, I'm not alone.
No, you're not.
I should of listened to you and the others who warned me. I ended up buying the GOTY edition- which I completely regret. The game has way too much content in its base package. I didn't need all the extra maps/civilization/scenarios. I was hoping to catch up on some sleep I lost during the summer sale, and this game is making that impossible.

It's already bad- I'm having dreams about grids, and barbarian invasions.
Not to mention probably what you should research next
Coconut Queen is so silly. The phrases the brawny men say when they go to work for you are great. "I don't need to eat lunch. I'd rather work for you." or whatever crack me up. I rolled my eyes when the Queen wasn't from the island but a white woman from Colorado flown in. Escapist fantasy for sure.
"This calls for a major looall!" I played around two hours last night and it was a nice relaxing game.
Welcome to Steam. Please leave your wallet, your free time, and your bank account at the door.
Good slogan!
Take a peek at Unepic. I've heard a few mumblings about it and, after playing for about an hour earlier, it's pretty neat.

I'm gonna use the word Metroidvania here because, although I don't actually know what it means, it'll get somebody's attention. :)
I think it basically means the game is action-adventure with exploring and rexploring an environment to get to the end. It was coined from the original Nintendo games Metriod and Castlevania II Simon's Quest.
I have an ATI card and I could run RAGE just fine, but you NEED to turn up the texture loading options and turn on vsync or else the game looks like crap.

Basically, the video options menu has two options that were patched in. The texture precaching option sounded like something I should leave off. Don't be fooled. Flip that sucker on and get vsync running while you're at it and you got a fine game
Wait a minute....does Rage get the "Rolling Skull seal of approval"?

The texture detail setting will make the game look better.. but the performance will take a hit if you use it. I have to turn off AA for it to run smoothly if I use texture detail. The game also doesn't look much better with it on. Textures look like crap no matter what settings you change. That setting was really meant to be used with nvidia GPUs (AMD gpus don't support CUDA which is what the setting is made for, NVIDIA GPUs do).
I almost bit on this game on the sale, but nah, will wait for $15 on the bundle, at least. I do love me some sniping tho. How realistic is it? How many difficulties are there? How long is it? And... what changes in the difficulties?
Hmmmm, realistic? I can't really say since its my only sniper game. There are three difficulties. The first one is your straight up action mode, no bullet physics. Marksman is the mid level one and it takes into account distance and wind dynamics in the bullet physics. The hardest mode I am playing now is supposed to be the most realistic and it has full bullet physics. The game has assistance you can use like tagging enemies and steadying your hand while holding your breath - but you don't have to use them and at least right now when I play it is hard. I shoot above the head on long distance shots and sometimes hit the body so it is taking everything into account.
I think I remember recommending Death to Spies awhile back when you bought up Sniper Elite..I take it back now though stay far, far, far away from that game. I haven't played it yet but it is regarded as a "Hardcore Stealth" game. Even on easy I hear its a challenge.

No worries. One of the big complaints people seemed to have about SEV2 was that you couldn't stealth the game. People wanted to be able to do their snipes and then sneak around and you really have to engage the enemy. I am usually too impatient to stealth, but I will give Death to Spies a try, I just like good games.
This is the only issue I have with the game. The low resolution makes it difficult sometimes to see things. With all these remakes coming out, there should be...

Coconut Queen HD!

I have hundreds of games at my disposal yet I just keep going back to CQ. I don't think I can stop until I beat it.
AWW.

First Gratz you just won the steamgift giveaway of Red orchestra 2 GOTY.

Second I hope you find time to shoot brawny russians instead of playing with coconuts.

Looks like Desura's servers are fucked tonight or something. Keep getting a can't find server while trying to download unepic.

Oh well, looks like my night will be Ys:Origins then since my Civ V game finished.

Same thing was happening to me with a different game. I just kept hitting re-try and after about 10-15 tries it finally went through

Odd. Unepic downloaded for me on the first try from the Desura client.

Anyway, I ordered a pizza and am trying out Farm Frenzy: Pizza Party.

Ah kay good, And ya I am not that great at pure stealth games as well(Way way worse if they limit the power of Quicksave-Fu). Why I guess I got both Sniper Elites and Death to Spies for a change of pace and game style I don't normally play.

I even got Blood Money just to do a stealth replay run; every time I played that game before it was just upgrade your weapons and act like your Max Payne. :twoguns:

So let's say I bought an Indie Royale bundle that has Steam + Desura keys for all the games. I've redeemed all the Steam keys but none of the Desura keys. If I do a scan and it picks up those Steam games then A) are they now associated with my Desura account also? B) are the Desura keys for those games now considered redeemed?

Oh geeze, this game.

You should hear the awful groaning noise it makes too.

A) No not really, it's just organizing them for you in the Desura client. I believe there are some Steam games you can associate with Desura and/or ModDB for purposes of running certain mods, but that search functionality is basically the equivalent of adding a non-Steam game to Steam, except for Desura.

B) No, you have to actually enter the key in Desura or else I guess buy the bundle while you are logged into Indie Royale with the same email hooked up to Desura. Otherwise the Desura part of the bundle is still not redeemed.

That's right. I forgot that's how it worked. Since it's basically the same for me, I haven't thought about it since they started doing it.

To my understanding, it would just read them as games on your system, nothing to do with keys. It's like adding a non-Steam game to your Steam library. So your Desura key from the bundle (they just give you one group key for Desura) would still be valid. Also remember that registering your key will add all the games that weren't on Steam keys, so you'll end up with lots of new games to sit in your back log!

Don't worry, I'll shoot some brawny Russians in the face.. once I finish CQ.

negative ghostrider.
while the patched vid settings helped you and the number of fixes listed in steam forums help others, the game is still a complete mess to MANY people running AMD cards as evidenced by threads in the steam forums.

Ive experienced awful tearing, which the vsync fix helped a good bit, massive texture issues, textures being misplaced everywhere and or missing, and awful framerate, sporadic slow downs. its unplayable to my standards. I have 6-9 hours logged in it and i just couldnt take it anymore.

I have had very very few problems with other games and have 300+ installed, rage is uniquely shitty (much in the same way brink was for many as its another opengl game)

Im on an i7 with plently of ram and a 5870, its random who it effects. if i knew what i did now id never have bought it.

Is this Farm Frenzy: Pizza Party? Cause if it is, that screenshot just made me enter the giveaway.

I also have/had dread about registering all the Desura stuff I own, but thanks to people responding to jimbodan, a bit less. Cheers.

Still, all those iBundles have given me a music backlog too, so maybe after that.

re: L.A. Noire to anyone who picked it up recently, I found that adding that command line option to force single-threading seems to have helped a lot with framerate and even load times. Thanks for nuthin' Rockstar / Team Bondi. Game itself? Enjoyable so far.

Yes that would be it and it's kind of a trainwreck. You know how I thought Coconut Queen would be bad but it was really good? Yeah, well not so much here.

It's kind of fun in a really cheesy OMG Seriously I am actually playing this? sort of way though.

Apparently, besides the panda tossing chickens around you have to make powered eggs. Or something.

Oh and the mascot pig cries when you exit out of the game.
For anyone not checking the Indie Royale thread, the new bundle is live.

It includes:

Puzzle Agent

Unepic

Extras:

Oniken OST
Rose and Time game
Royale Ring + 100 unepic credits

If you pay $8 or more:

Prof.SAKAMOTO - Insert
LOL you beat me to posting this! Cheers mate--and looks like a really fun bundle this time! I bought mine immediately.

I saw a pack with like 3 farm frenzy games today and almost bit. Glad I passed. CQ really is a well built game and I think if you ever had to sort through a lot of these casual games you know a quality one when you find it.

I got Death To Spies recently and played a few levels. It plays just like a clone of the Hitman games. And, yeah, if you're not stealthy, then you'd better be in an isolated place cause they'll all start looking for you.
Yeah I really should give Desura a try since I have a TON of keys from various bundles
This. Been thinking the same for a few months, now.
One small cool thing is that if you buy IndieRoyale bundles with the same email you register for Desura with, the keys will automagically be linked with your Desura account, no fuss, no muss.
Huh, really? I should go and do that right now, in that case.

I had a thought. Why isn't there a Wall Painting Simulator.

I mean people would buy it just to say they own the most boring game ever.

Also Desura is really handy. It's basically my client for games that are not on Steam. Works well and is useful, unlike other digital download clients *cough* Origin, Impulse *cough*.
Goddamn it. Went to register on Desura and some asshole stole my username on July 17th.
Odd question, but was it you?

It seems that when Indie Royale created its login system to view all bundles, creating one for myself also created a Desura account. I ran into the same thing just now where the name "DPsycho" was unavailable, then entered my email address and clicked that I lost my password just to see. It emailed me. Turned out my account already existed and I just had to look up my Indie Royale password to sign in.

Doesn't Origin provide this service without the annoyance of having to click any buttons? :D
