CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Indie Bundles thread on Steam forums (link)
Your logic is so broken it hurts. Yes, bad indie games exist. But they're bad because they're bad, not because they're indie. Heck, the vast majority of major releases are absolute rubbish. Even the ones that are celebrated are often generic or bug-ridden. And then you have the movie tie-ins, etc.

Indie games are developed by a guy in a basement, or a small team. Sure, there are many failures. But you also get masterpieces, and true innovation.

But you know that. Don't know why you think it's cool to trash people that pour their life's energy into creating something that all of us here love (games) but if that's the role you want to play on the internet, go for it. Really sad, if you ask me.
I could not disagree with you more. Hell, the lazy idolization of indie games and even lazier disregard for mainstream games is exactly what I am aligning myself with.

Of course I'm hamming it up when I suggest indie is synonymous with bad. But it is equally as silly to suggest games are more inherently virtuous on a small team, that published games somehow are completely free of heart and soul. That's ridiculous.

Indie and mainstream games should be judged on whether they are good games. Nobody is served by romanticizing indie games and grading them on a curve.

I don't agree with you that this is happening. Yes, indie games do get a good amount of attention because of its less expensive nature and indie bundles, but I don't think that automatically says that people prefer them when people are still buying top games. Personally, I like the trend, since big publishers have gotten too safe and complacent. Course, that's what happens when a company spend millions on developing video games: they want to make sure they get back their investment.

I've also never viewed you as one who just hated indie games. It seems you have equal disdain for all games. Personally, it causes me a double-take when you actually like a game, since that seems a rare thing.

I like lots of games. It's the bad ones that drive me to rant.

That said, indie games are often built around wonkier ideas but I hardly think innovation or rehashing are sole domains of either indie or mainstream games. Both sides, as silly as the dichotomy is when you really try to quantize it, have their own instances of either.

Still, indie innovation tends to be a half-formed gimmick that fails to hook me. Mainstream games don't innovate because they don't get excused for all the half-cocked design that comes from struggling with the new big indie idea. I still see Mount and Blade, BoI, and Minecraft as halfway done betas and they sell like hot cakes. I'd rather have the polished proven concept nine times out of ten. That polish separates Mega Man and Metal Slug from 8-Bit Commando.

Every time I see Limbo get worshipped, I do think indie games get an easier time of it.
I read everyone as if this were true.

Except the Amazon Rep Tony. I imagine him sitting on a yacht drinking an appletini surrounded by five almost-Playboy women of varying ethnicities in his only slightly ajar silk robe. Every time he posts, he's actually telling a henchwench to type it for him as he pets his pet puppy and plots his next sale.

I imagine him sailing up and down the East Coast, just inside international waters, but within range of a satellite internet connection. Best Buy sends Geek Squad (Black Ops Division) to try and take him down, but they're having trouble locating him. The last time they did, he activated his boat's submersible mode and evaded them. Gamestop hackers try to hack his connection, but his Playboy models have been trained in anti-hacking protocols and keep him just ahead of digital attacks. Gamefly launched a ground-to-sea missle, but missed.

None of it makes him miss a drop of his appletini. Yeaaah...
Such vivid details! So, where does Steam and Kmart fit into this story? By the way, you seem to have knack at this sorta thing(I remember your Steam sale delay story from several weeks ago). Do you do any creative writing for living?
Ubisoft really screwed themselves, I'm trying to do a google search for my Uplay game patching issue and can't get anything useful cause all it's finding is page after page of results about the browser security hole thing.

Apparently the uPlay exploit is patched out already, according to some news articles.

Now, the uPlay extension in the browser can only be used to open uPlay, according to Ubisoft.
What Netcron said is correct, though It took me a while to find the info too among all the Google articles about this whole debacle. They sure got a lot of bad press over it and rightly so.

The patched version is 2.04. When you run Uplay it should update itself or else you can redownload the installer from Uplay.com and it should install it as 2.04 when you check the version and the changelog.

Even with the patch I see no reason why UPlay needs access to your browser and it still works fine when you disable the browser plugin so I would personally recommend doing so.
Is there a list of games that use Uplay? I have several Ubisoft games, but only 3 of them are installed right now (Assassin's Creed II, Dark Messiah Might & Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic V). There is no mention of uplay on the steam page for any of those 3 games, but that's obviously no guarantee. I tried to find a list of games through google, but like Solid-Snake-Eyes said, it's page after page of stories about the security issue.
The older pre-VI Heroes games definitely don't. I checked.

According to the wiki here are the games that use UPlay:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubisoft#Uplay

 • Anno 2070
 • Assassin's Creed II
 • Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
 • Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy
 • Assassin's Creed Revelations
 • Assassin's Creed III
 • Beowulf: The Game
 • Brothers in Arms: Furious 4
 • Call of Juarez: The Cartel
 • Driver: San Francisco
 • From Dust
 • Heroes of Might and Magic VI
 • Just Dance 3
 • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
 • Pure Football
 • R.U.S.E.
 • Shaun White Skateboarding
 • Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic
 • The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom
 • Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2
 • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
 • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction
 • Your Shape: Fitness Evolved

Not a ton but definitely some high profile games in there.

Note that there may be even more DRM in addition to UPlay and Steam DRM (if you buy it there) on some of these. I know Anno 2070 also has Tages DRM with a limited number of activations on top of UPlay and Steam. I don't think most of the rest have a 3rd layer of DRM but I'm not familiar with all the details for all of them so caveat emptor for those considering buying Ubisoft games.
Too much work for me. I have enough games in my backlog, I see no reason to support a shitty publisher so long as they make me, an actual paying customer, jump through so many hoops just to enjoy the game I legally purchased.
I agree 100% however I already own a couple of these games via trade or gift so I wanted to make sure I could play them. Any Ubisoft games with additional 3rd part DRM beyond Steam will definitely not be getting money from me in the future though, that's for sure.

If Tony is looking for a luxury drink, he drinks an aged single cask scotch or XO Cognac.

Also, Tony doesn't always drink beer but when he does, he prefers Dos Equis. :)

Did anyone else find SR3 to be a bit buggy/crash-prone or am I just exceptionally blessed in that regard?

I've been playing for a few days and have had one lock-up requiring closing from the Task Manager, two crashes to desktop and one blue screen with a full reboot. And once my aim was bizarrely desynched where my bullets wouldn't land remotely close to where I was targeting. I exceed the minimum requirements and the only thing not recommended is my video card (9800 GTX+) but I'm playing on low graphic settings. Updated drivers and all that.

It's playable in that I can go over an hour before a problem comes up but it's annoying to complete a plot mission and have the game crash before it saves my progress.

I have put in about nine hours with only one crash. My longest playtime was an hour and a half at once. No other issues for me though. I like it better than the Saints Row 2 port.

I haven't had it crash on me yet. Maybe your video card is overheating and causing the issues?

I've had plenty of bugs with it too, and I have a pretty good system and video card, all with updated drivers, I don't overclock and just recently installed a cooler that limits my core temp to 55oC when at full load.

With DirectX 11 the game eventually slows down to a crawl, much like Arkham City did (and still does). With DirectX 9 enabled, sometimes I can go for a long time without any issues, then it slows down and I have to alt-tab to shut it down through Task Manager.

With Red Faction Armageddon, also from THQ, I have the exact same issue with DirectX 11, and with DirectX 9 the difference is that it doesn't slow down, it crashes to desktop.

Overheating is possible, I guess. My processor hovers in the high 40s when playing but I haven't monitored my video card's temps. The crashes haven't really been during the more intense parts of the game where it'd be working the hardest but it's one more thing to check out I guess.

My friend and I had zero issues what so ever with the game. We went through the entire story and DLC. Our rigs for reference are: (Mine) i7 Processor, 16GB of RAM, ATI HD 6870 & (His) Core 2 Duo Processor, 4GB of RAM, ATI HD 6770.

A processor at 60 Celsius is fine. A video card at 90 Celsius is fine. Going any higher than those numbers are usually when you start running into issues. Like my friends computer (the guy the the 6770) is having overheating issues with his Video Card right now and it idles at 90 Celcius after playing games and doesn't go down until he keeps his computer off for a while. If he leaves it on, it'll hit 110 Celsius and then just blue screen and drop all video output at the same time.

I had no issues with SR3 and DLC either. I would recommend checking your GPU temps as another poster suggested, look up GPU-Z to track your video card performance. Might want to check your CPU temp as well (Coretemp is pretty good for that, CPU-Z for actual performance specs but that's not as important).

I know that when I started having games crash on me 5 or 6 years ago, I thought the problem were the games; but it turned out they were just taxing my video card way too much and it was overheating. The game or computer would eventually shut itself off to save itself :)

I was having similar issues with directx 11 and my card (asus gtx570 dcII) and finally found a bios update for it on their site that fixed it - apparently it wasnt upping power draw to handle the bump to dx11 like it should. May not apply to you, but thought I'd toss it out there since I spent weeks cussing my card before finding the fix.

Beautiful :applause:

I really do wish I had better judgement on games. But I haven't really been integrated in the modern gaming world for a long time, so my backlog ranges from games that I've wanted to play growing up. But a lot of the games I'd like to start out playing are single-player, half-decade to decade old, that I heard a bunch from my school mates in middle school. It's only been a few months that I've actually had access to a gaming computer, and consoles really never got my attention, unless they were for 4-player games.

Ohhhohh, Off topic, but:
Anyone gonna see the new Silent Hill movie?

Edit: I apologize if anyone sees the post derping out. Because I am.

I played through the entire game + DLC and had no trouble at all. I am sorry you are having issues. To me it sounds like overheating vid card as others have suggested (either that or the card cant handle the game). My card isn't all that much better than yours - Geforce GTX 275 and it ran fine (when I was in a HUGE battle there was sometimes a slowdown, but nothing game breaking). I'd pop the case open and blow out all the fans (including the intake and rear fan from the video card).

Steam Gifts has made some changes to bundle games and contributor status:
http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/vUnIE/important-updates-to-contributor-values-and-bundle-games

We rolled out a few important updates to the site today.

 1. The first major change is the way contributor values are calculated. In short, the update limits giveaways that might have originated from a bundle to 20% of your total value (Note: Giveaways created prior to a bundle always receive full value). Please review the threads from earlier in the week for the full details. Keep in mind, we'll continue to improve this system as time goes on.
 2. There's no longer a restriction on what games can be given away, assuming they're not guest passes or beta keys. Anything found in the drop down menu when creating a giveaway is allowed. If you're gifting a game from a bundle, please review that bundle's terms of service to ensure you have permission to do so. If you believe a giveaway needs to be removed, please use the report button. There's no reason to post accusations in the comments, and users doing so may be suspended for inappropriate behavior. We'll review reported giveaways, and remove them if necessary. The new system will ensure contributor values are not overly inflated by bundle games.
Thanks to everyone in the community for all the feedback the past week, and I believe we created a system that's fair for everyone. It still leaves room for improvement, and there are a number of great suggestions in the previous thread we'll be exploring in the coming weeks.

Never heard of bios updates for video cards before. I have a EVGA GTX 560 Ti 2GB, and looking up now I have found that the bios update it has is a fan unlock (apparently the current maximum speed for the fan is 85%). I have EVGA Precision running in the background and it does not show any warnings when I play, so I believe it is not due to overheating.

HOMM is one of my favorite game, I owned every series except for 6 and UPlay is the main reason why I am not getting that game.

Grab a temp monitor for your PC. Speedfan is good and free, don't know what else is out there. Make sure your not overheating, because it could just be your machine hates it or it could be your machine is overheating. Try to rule out the overheating part, and also if it is overheating, take care of the problem asap.

Well, like I said, the CPU isn't overheating -- it stays in the high 40s, flirting with 50 but not going over.

It could be the GPU overheating though. I'll have to check out the fan and get a temp monitor for it. It doesn't have the benefit of the big ole Coolermaster heatsink the CPU has.

Speedfan does GPU monitoring too, that's why I suggested it. It does both CPU and GPU monitoring which is handy.
Ya, because I changed it back; before when I said it was still in my profile, I had just mixed up the profile and avatar images...but that still doesn't explain how my avatar image got changed to the bouncing green smiley...
Unfortunately, since no one else saw it you just come across as a raving lunatic :) lol... Was it this one - :bouncy:

Not sure why any mod would change your avatar. They can be a bit annoying, but I don't think they are petty like that. Probably just some sort of goof on the site or something.

I use a program called Speccy. Free and tracks all temps.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I forget what I'm using now but it only does CPU -- or else I haven't figured out how to get it to monitor the GPU.

I'd lay equal odd either way
HOMM is one of my favorite game, I owned every series except for 6 and UPlay is the main reason why I am not getting that game.
You can always get King's Bounty to scratch the same itch...

Glad to hear you resolved all them issues - albeit on your own with no help from ubisoft. All of that aside, how are you enjoying the game? Worth the trouble?
I haven't started it again since solving this but I played about 20 minutes before and it seemed really cool.

This guy on Steam forums has figured out exactly what Uplay 2.x is doing wrong when it comes to Steam and how to fix it without uninstalling Uplay. I'm going to tweet this to Ubisoft and see if they can fix their shit. The email support was incompetent when it came to this but the twitter guy seemed to know a little more or at least understand that it was a DRM issue. CAG sensored my google shortened URL, wtf? http://$$$$$$$/9zTFU

Daily Deal is The void for $2.49. This was in an indie bundle recently.

Midweek Madness looks to be all of the Indie Bundles that they had in the Summer Sale. $10 each.

Probably to prevent masking referral/affiliate links.

The Void has been in several indie bundles recently.. disappointing to see it as a daily deal.
Other Midweek Madness is Transformers War For Cybertron at $7.50 (75% off).
Any thoughts? Not a fan of Transformers myself but it looks like a fun 3rd person shooter.

I've got 99% of all the games in those bundles... as do most here I'd bet. I wish they'd do a build-a-bundle out of those.

You're first mistake is thinking they give a shit. They are totally arrogant assholes who view all their customers as potential criminals who only buy their games because their wonderful DRM is doing its job and keep them from pirating it.

They've repeatedly said they believe in their DRM and that it is working. Every time it blows up in their face with outages or security problems they release some very terse statement with no apology whatsoever for the time lost when their paying customers could not access their games or the very real security risk their software posed to people's PCs.

They are the worst of the worst. Thinking they care about what you or any other paying customer thinks will only lead to disappointment.

I thought it was a very average and forgettable game to be honest. Not bad, but you could probably do a lot better.

Should be cheaper than this by now too. Came out over 2 yrs ago.

$7.50 for Transformers seems a little high. The game is two years old and the sequel will be out very soon. Seems like a last-minute sales grab to me.
Your money would be better spent on this:

I live in Seattle so I can just get my ass on a real ferry boat if I want that. Plus I already own the Ship Simulator Extreme on Steam with the Ferry pack DLC. :p

Actually, what I should be playing is the damned Garbage Truck Simulator because at least then I can pretend it's getting done instead of festering out there for a week because they are on strike. :bomb:

As for the book of Unwritten Tales, I will wait until the Europeans who drive up the price for adventure games tire of it and it goes on (a real) sale.
