CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

That this guy has a gamer dad doesn't mean the dad isn't 35. :D

So I noticed in the announcement for Rise of Triad Remake

– Step into the shoes of the H.U.N.T. (High-Risk United Nations Taskforce) with five unique characters, each with different play styles.
- Blast through over 20 of levels of explosive single-player action.
- Unique multiplayer maps bring back all the fun and excitement of classic ROTT.
- The full arsenal of over-the top weapons is back, including the Flamewall, Firebomb, Split Missile, Drunk Missile and, of course, the Excalibat!
- The maniacal modes return, too, with God mode, Elasto mode, Mercury mode, Shrooms mode and everyone’s favorite, Dog mode!
- Build your own levels, mods and share them with Valve’s Steamworks.
- Offline single-player and multiplayer allows for instant action.
- Find tons of secrets, collectables, special events and hidden areas to explore.
- Get more than 100 achievements to add to your score, which is tracked on our worldwide leaderboard and stat-tracking system.
- ROTT is bloodier and more ludicrous than ever, with full character and enemy dismemberment.
- The iconic original soundtrack has been completely re-forged in the fires of heavy metal!
- Nostalgia abounds with the option to play with all the original sounds and music.
- Built on fully-licensed Unreal Engine 3 technology, ROTT will run on low-end PCs and push high-end PCs to their limits!

Kind of sad the fact the game has offline single-player is now a bullet point.
You know, any other game I'd agree but for as many hours as I've gotten out of Skyrim, and I'm not even near done, I really don't mind.

Plus I'm an old ES fan from way back in the olden DOS days.
I hear ya man. I have bought Skyrim 3 times now. Once at launch then the CE from Newegg when it was $60 then again for PC. I do not feel one bit bad about it. I put 100+ hours into the PS3 version before getting the PC version money well spent if you ask me. I will definitely be getting Dawnguard this weekend.
Still I think my most purchased game is either Oblivion or BFBC2. Trade high and buy sober. Oops I mean... oh screw it, that is what I meant.

Wee guess I'm a little late to the whole key giveaway party, and I suppose I technically count as a lazy poster/lurker. I post when I feel like it but for the most part I find forum communities to be extremely annoying and depressing. That's why I stayed away from actually participating in CAG forums for so long, I expected more of the same. But I realized that wasn't the case and the community here is actually quite enjoyable.
I suppose I should try them one day just so I can legitimately say I don't like them, but honestly pure FPS games are just generally not my thing anyway and then when you add modern military sort of simulation to it, well I can honestly that genre is the lowest on my list in terms of interest. I would rather play Bad Rats.
The single player on COD4 was really good but they jumped the shark on COD:MW2 and beyond. I never played BF1 but the story was pretty ridiculous on the second one and beyond. The multiplier is good in almost all of them but that's not why I buy games. COD4 is the only one I can recommend for the SP alone although it does have a Star Wars mod.

Hooray, I am now the owner of Bad Rats! Thanks Genocidal for your IG5 giveaway. Now to play some Secret of the Magic Crystals...

One of these days this thread will be on topic.

Ticket to Ride is quite nice but it has run its course with me. Not a lot of real depth to it but it's a fun board game.

Pleased as punch that Exceed finally, FINALLY dropped on Steam. Exceed 3rd is probably really the only good one if you want to save $4 but they're nice shumps. Exceed 2 is basically Ikaruga. Exceed 1 is rather weak.
Well, I don't play COD for multiplayer at all and just like playing for the story believe it or not. With a family around to keep me busy, it's like an interactive movie unfold on my own time. I played MW1-3 a few times on SP only.
I'm actually the same. The only FPS multiplayer I've played was MW3 and I only played that as a way to spend time with my little brother at college. I personally don't care for multiplayer period (hate how every game now seems to think it's a requirement). The only multiplayer I actually kind of liked was ME3 (probably just because I liked constantly sniping the baddies )

You all have broken me. I love Ticket to Ride (have 4 versions of the board game, plus 2 expansions, and the iPad app - yes, I have problems) and before reading this thread and experiencing the Summer Sale, I would have been all over TtR at 50% off. Now I look at it and think, "It's not 75% off - I can wait". Although, if all the DLC had been discounted too, I may have bitten :)
One of these days this thread will be on topic.
Oh you.

But to be on topic I am highly tempted by ticket to ride. I've watched the trailer and looked up some info. But I think I'll wait til the winter sale to grab it. Ideally my backlog should have gotten smaller by then.

Only ten minutes left, but the indie bundle with TTR is a FAR better deal. Defcon is decent, but Aaaah and Spacechem are great if you don't have them.

I'm also a girl, just to clarify, lol.

Isn't there a visual novel that Capcom is supposed to get on Steam as well but keeps dragging their feet on?

Really tempted on that Quakecon Pack. All the current id and Bethesda games out for $99 including Skyrim, Oblivion GOTY, Fallout 3 GOTY, Fallout New Vegas GOTY, RAGE, Brink, Hunted, and all that old school goodness. They caught me at a vulnerable time because I beat RAGE this morning and visited the easter egg rooms and am extremely nostalgic right now. I've been holding back too so I only own Morrowind and Oblivion out of everything. My only thing is I feel like I've been bleeding money these past few weeks between the summer sale and BestBuy's Gamer Blowout sale and I bought LEGO Batman 2 at TRU the other day for my nephew's birthday on Saturday. That's like $200 spent on games lately. So much for being a cheapass...

Cherry Tree High Comedy Club. On GG and from the devs' website. Miffed that one has no text skip though since it seems replayable.

Spacechem is one of those games where you will work on solutions for a couple hours after playing. I love that there isn't one way to solve it.
That this guy has a gamer dad doesn't mean the dad isn't 35. :D
Yeah, which is why I was trying to explain that I in no way meant to imply that that was her situation. :pP
Failed, apparently. D:

Haha, thanks fro the clarification.

Okay, I have to ask: What's the deal with Ticket to Ride? I look at it, and it looks really lame and boring. Not to bash it, I know nothing about it, that's why I'm asking.

What's the hubbub?

I'm buying this whenever it's released on steam.

I haven't put enough time into this game, but I've REALLY enjoyed what time I did put into it. It's fantastic, incredible, and amazingly intelligent. But it's really more akin to programming than puzzle solving, to be fair.
Raising Cane's > Chik-fil-a.
QFT, every time I hit Vegas I eat there ALMOST exclusively.

Ticket to Ride is a pretty fun game strategy-wise but I don't know why you would want in on a PC format. On iPad it's great. You get 3 cards and you have to build a track from whereever to there... but there are a couple of crossroads in order to get across the U.S. and ultimately it becomes a who can snatch what up the fastest. It's fun but honestly it's more a party game for a group.

It's a board game turned video game. I've only played the board game, but it had really great and fun mechanics. If I remember correctly, you try to build the longest/best/other qualifiers to score point. Different colors refer to different places you can build a rail and the person with the most points wins.

For those of us who have both a laptop and an iPad (newest generation), which version plays the best? One have a distinct advantage over the other?

It's a pretty fun real life board game of some popularity. Not sure how the video game version translates though.
If only it were 75% off, I refuse to buy anything on Steam that isn't at least 75% off.
But yeah, that too. And ...*looks at library* It's not like I don't already have a ton of games still waiting to be played here.

Edit: Oh snap! Ys Origins download finished. Shall be playing when I'm done with my duties, either today or tomorrow.
I'm a Dad (just turned 50) and I game more than my kids most of the time. Then again, it's my hobby and only an interest to them. Of course, they were busy with school, then college, and now jobs of their own. Without them around anymore, I've got GOBS of time to game :D. Although I love it when they visit.

Well not everyone has an iPad. I would grab it for my Touchpad if it ever came to Android but it seems that is unlikely to happen. That being the case, I'm happy with the Steam version.

And *sigh* I wish ignore ignored quotes too. "It looks really lame and boring". Obviously some people were not raised with any manners whatsoever.

O.K. Well If this guy is talking about the codes that were posted by Tony, or the codes given out by the CheapyD generator, or even games put up on CAG SteamGifts giveaways when he says "CAG giveaway codes", then this is a PERFECT example of exactly how people are gaming the system. If that isn't what he meant (and it's gonna have to be one hell of an explanation) then my apologies.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9850921&postcount=9275

If he's hoarding, then trading giveaway codes for games, then he should be banned. That is all.

UPDATE: Yep, that's exactly what he's doing:
Right, I mean we pretty much saw that with the CAG Steam group that people will just join a group in advance that they have no intention to participate with if that particular group is known for doing giveaways.
Also restrict it to post count or even feedback rating. There are plenty of ways to skin a cat, not that I know that from personal experience, I mean, I know a guy...

Anyways. Live and learn. Social groups function well enough when you create enough barriers to entry, and anyone who really 'belongs' at CAG will have posted a fair amount and/or likely made a trade.
I feel so bad for you. Being born without tastebuds must be TERRIBLE.
Yes, let's just bitch about sentences taken out of context. I guess "queen" is the proper title.

To the actual helpful people, thanks. I didn't know anything about the game, and judging from how it looks pretty boring at first glance, I guess that goes to show that the gameplay really is awesome enough to make it a good game.

Think I'll hold out for 75% off, but I'll probably pick it up when it hits that. Thanks helpful people. :)

HAHA. That is actually really funny, but depressing at the same time. During the summer time is usually when I gain weight, since I have nothing to do. I'm not going to lie, but even though my tastebuds suck there is something about eating that just makes the time go by. I used to eat when I was bored all the time. Man, I'm never hungry, either. I just eat because I should during regular hours (ex: just eat breakfast because that's what everyone is "supposed" to be doing).

I'm really on the fence about Morrowind. Beat it to death when it came out, but those new texture packs look awesome and I never played the DLC. I just don't know when I'll have 100 spare hours to get through it all.....

When it comes to games like Morrowind I feel that if you beat it when it came out, it is better to leave it in the past, with all those happy gaming memories and invest those 100 odd hours into a new experience. Sometimes, they don't live up to how much you remember enjoying them as well.

My 2c.

For that price, even if you only spend 30 hours, you got your monies worth.

you didn't have texture packs/fan mods when you went back through it. Food for thought.
