CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I like the skins, it's really cool to play as regular gray+blue Batman.
I love running around with the Batman Beyond skin the most. It feels more noticably different than the other ones.

I love the insanely buff version of what was a fairly streamlined Batman. Also his lack of cape makes the combat look different a bit. With the cape then it is really cool to see it pop out as you start to glide.

I've only tried gray+blue in one challenge map and Batman Inc a little bit too. Beyond looks pretty badass, I was curious about how he would fly. I got Batman Inc for free from GFW marketplace a few months ago, not sure if it's still available.

You know, if the Railworks DLC were 90% off as well, I'd probably pick up a crapload of them. As it is, I bought the Haulin' USA pack to get the included DLC for cheap (even though I already own the base game). I jumped on that sucker as soon as i saw it was 90% off. I was worried that if I waited a bit that they might decrease the discount percentage like they did to Frozen Synapse the other day.

So I'm thinking about picking up Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic before it ends tonight for $2.49. I know it's only $2.49, but I am not a huge Star Wars fan at all. But I heard this game was amazing. Can any non-huge Star Wars fans recommend this to a fellow non-huge Star Wars fan? lol...thanks!
Good enough price for Black Ops. Would've happily bought MW3 at $20.
Since I'm strictly a single player campaign guy, 20 bucks still seems high to me, though I might bite it. At 30, no way.

so I bought Train Simulator 2012 and the Trains vs zombie dlc instead of GTA Collection...... am I doing it right? and stop recommending bad games, I am starting to buy them since they are cheap.
Actually that Haulin' USA pack at $7.19 for 90% off doesn't look half bad... ;)

That is the discounted price.

No, seriously. It is.
As long as it comes with a train so I can play the Zombie expansion it is all mine :) Thanks Steam.

What do you guys think of the GTA Trilogy pack? It comes with III, San Andreas, and Vice City. FOr only $7.49 and it's playable on a Mac. I would go for the complete package, but I'm a Mac gamer if you don't know that by now.

So I may actually make my first purchase today with the GTA complete pack. I found out the other day that my PS2 memory card is gone so I thought I would pick the games up on the PC. Do most mods tend to work with the Steam versions and are they easy to install for the various games? (I have never attempted to use mods on any PC game, ever.)

It's a Bioware game. That's all you need to know. ;)
So.. Safe to assume that KOA reckoning won't be on sale?
It's looking that way so I grabbed a copy of the ps3 version from best buy for $10 after the coupon in their magazine. Gonna leave it sealed til the sale is over though, in case a miracle happens.
I wish I wouldn't have clicked the spoiler...
For real!

And let's be fair. I don't have hardly ANYTHING but haven't purchased for the past 2 days. Costume quest is the hemming and hawing object of the day. That's about it. I am disappointed. Especially when Amazon seems to be spanking Steam this year.

I guess it's all opinion and perspective. I thought the Paradox packs were excellent deals but Amazon has been pretty meh for me since then. Then again I don't really care for shooters much.

With Amazon the scope is usually a lot more narrow so if I don't like their Deal of the week or publisher stuff going on it's pretty much wait until the next sale. With the big Steam sales it's wait until the next day, plus there's a bunch of stuff I'm sitting on getting the last day just to make sure it doesn't go lower.

Also, Amazon really sucks for DLC and that kind of kills the deal for me sometimes too.
I fully realize that it's my own doing, but that doesn't mean I can't be disappointed when I can't take advantage of a sale.
Well maybe you guys just expect too much is all I'm saying. I mean it's a decent sale, particularly if you are just getting into PC gaming, but it's not going to fulfill your every desire.

Personally, I find it easier to keep my expectations low and then maybe get pleasantly surprised. :p

I've already gotten more this sale than I expected to. (Besides Coconut Queen and Horrid Henry, I mean)
So.. Safe to assume that KOA reckoning won't be on sale?
Short of a referendum from the voters of the State of Rhode Island probably not.

On the Summer Sale Group page it says that Quantum Conundrum is among today's deal. However, I'm only seeing a 10% discount. Anyone else notice this?
I paid $1.00 for Duke Nukem Forever last year and played through the entire game. I wasted a dollar and seven hours of my life. Do not buy that piece of shit game. I can not stress this enough DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
Though I'd never recommend DNF, I thought it got better as it went along, but it starts really, really badly, and only near the end does it get somewhat enjoyable, occasionally. The Doctor DLC, however, is much better (not that it's great, mind you.... it's good). If you somewhat enjoyed DNF, I'd definitely recommend the new campaign DLC.

SP only? Not worth it.

Actually, come to think of it, Blops's Zombies matchmaking was infuriating and the game was so unfocused that it was hard to like even though it had so much good

But yes, SP only? You know what you're getting so you'll know if it is worth it to you. I thought it was standard CoD fun with standard CoD bullcrap too.

Hmm that might mean more if you rewind the clocks a bit.

You don't really have to be into star wars to like the game, before I played it I didn't really like star wars and now I am into it a bit well the old trilogy anyway. That being said the story is pretty epic as well as the characters and combat I actually bought the game 3 times. Once on Direct2drive another on steam and once for xbox.

Why doesn't steam just save my age so I don't have to keep clicking this stupid thing. Argh.... all this finger exercise!!!!! So folks tell me what to buy and what not to buy?

The new indie bundle good?

Duke nukem?

Limbo?

I'm certainly not trying to change your mind on this; but personally I can't bring myself to feel that way. I'd gladly pick up Duke for $1, and I feel like it'd be fun enough at 7 hours to play through and never touch again. I hear so many bad things about DNF, TFU2, etc... but really, they look like fairly decent, if unexceptional experiences to me. Myself, don't mind the occasional "okay" game along with the AAA's, so long as the price is right.

Honestly, if it's a "piece of shit game", why even keep playing?

I would do it. Very cheap price for a great game. I still hold it as one of my favorite RPGs.

I'm hoping. You can actually get it for $15 at Best Buy on PS3 or X360 right now, but I'm waiting to see if I can get a PC version.
On the Summer Sale Group page it says that Quantum Conundrum is among today's deal. However, I'm only seeing a 10% discount. Anyone else notice this?
I saw this too, maybe they made a mistake? Amazon has it on sale for $9 and you can add it to Steam

My problem with DNF was how much it wasn't Duke Nukem. You spend more time in that game driving some type of vehicle, or sitting in a shooting gallery, than you ever do running and gunning. I wanted more Duke 3D/Serious Sam run and gun old fashioned FPS.
Hmm that might mean more if you rewind the clocks a bit.
True. Luckily, KOTOR was made a while ago.
I would do it. Very cheap price for a great game. I still hold it as one of my favorite RPGs.
I agree, I'm not really a Star Wars fan much at all, but this was an absolutely amazing RPG with a great, deep story line. If you enjoy RPG's then I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this game.
Why doesn't steam just save my age so I don't have to keep clicking this stupid thing. Argh.... all this finger exercise!!!!!
The thing that really bothers me is if you visit a game that yo already own, it still asks you to give your age if it's an M rated game. How dumb is that?

I'm more of an RPG fan than a Star Wars one and I liked it. If you like Mass Effect and generally like Bioware stuff you'll like it. I don't think you need to be some huge Star Wars fan to play it really. That's just the setting for it.
it's a bioware game from before when EA bought them and they started getting sloppy. that's all you need to know. ;)
Fixed.

I really enjoy the COD series single player campaign (I have MW1, MW2 and WaW), but I can't see myself spending 30 bucks for what will be a 6 hour playthrough.
It is starting to feel like they blew their wad on the first couple of days of the sale here lately. Between rehashed voting and putting some of the same stuff on sale at least 2 times since in 5-6 days, I hate to say this but it really feels like this Steam sale is running out of... steam. Today's daily deals are pretty meh. Unless some good flash sales and community vote sale pop up today may just indeed a well needed rest for many peoples wallets.
I do like the idea behind the flash deals and the community votes, but part of these sales has always been the anticipation of what the next big deal is going to be. While the deals are still unarguably amazing, I think all the repeated deals sort of inadvertently take something away from the anticipation aspect. The repeated deals sort of become the "dud", so to speak.

Limbo is a pretty good albeit short game, definitely worth $2.50

Like Taboner said, its a Bioware game. It is also Bioware at their BEST.

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan either but I really liked the story in this one. I think its because it takes place so long before the movies that its almost an entirely different mythology that doesn't reference the movies and isn't weighed down by it when telling a story. Outside of the iconic Star Wars stuff like lightsabers and force powers, I saw the game as sci-fi, but not necessarily Star Wars. You don't need any Star Wars knowledge.

I got it :)

As well as the Trainz vs. Zombies DLC

Running total for me this sale: $12.39

Railworks 3 Haulin USA Pacl
Trains vs. Zombies DLC
Killing Floor DLC

It's like Gabe reads all my tweets and fulfilled my railworks dream :)

The only awful thing about Railworks is that I am seriously sitting there looking at the DLC like "Damn, I used to live near that line" or "Hmmm, that's right down the road" and believe it or not tempted to purchase one of the DLCs... please stop me Coconut Queen.
Just buy AC and Harleys Revenge. The rest of the DLC is just challenge map stuff.
I'll echo the others saying the Skin Pack is very nice. There's quite a variety and, let's face it, you're going to be looking at Batman for quite a while and a change of pace can be pleasant. It's purely cosmetic though and doesn't affect the game in any way.

I did find that once I finished the game I enjoyed the combat enough to get into the challenge maps a bit and when I did the other characters were quite a bit of fun to use in them.
I found out today that the Securom on Arkham City has a revoke limit as well as an activation limit. Securom confirmed this via email. That's pretty ridiculous, I've never heard of this before. Someone on the Steam forums ran out of revokes but I was skeptical until now.
And shame on Warner Bros for treating their customers that way.
I paid $1.00 for Duke Nukem Forever last year and played through the entire game. I wasted a dollar and seven hours of my life. Do not buy that piece of shit game. I can not stress this enough DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
I'll go on record as saying not everyone agrees with what you've just said. I'm one of them. It isn't an amazing game, no, but it's not as bad as that. It's interesting that people are willing to scoop up cheap indie games and look past poor production values, but a $5 DNF game gets scathing hate. I understand the bitterness from long-time fans and it isn't "what it could have been", but there are some genuinely good moments and it's a good eight to ten hours of reasonably acceptable shooting and goofy Duke stuff.

For those on the fence, be sure to listen to both sides of the argument and take into account the price.
But I like bad games. Well sorta. In a weird way. It's kind of fun collecting them. I have to do something because I've run out of good games to get dammit!
Hipster. Hmph.

Old Republic is a great game and for that price! Just get it :D

Got myself company of heroes and dungeon hunter 1,2,3 today. Happy days

I really wish the Quantum Conundrum DLC was sold separately. I got the base game and really enjoyed it, and now I can't upgrade my version.

I'm doubting so hard to bite on stronghold 3... if the metascore wasn't so bad I would buy it immedeately. I do want it though... but that, plus my backlog is making me really doubt if it's worth 10 euros right now.

Me too! I'm like okay now I need the Acela train because I used to ride that one and OOH OOH they have the BNSF line that's right near here!

Also, I want to see some videos of that Zombie DLC!

Serious Sam is no more old school than CoD. SS is all pacing-destroying repetitive enemy spam. Old Duke was superior for level design and pacing.

But yes, DNF is horrid for being afraid to even put you in a gunfight.

Oh God D*** you. The only thing that's been keeping me from buying Railworks was that I couldn't find the DC-Boston line. But there it is. Northeast Corridor.

I'll still probably hold off, but the fact that I now know it's out there... it's going to haunt me.

Edit: Oh good. The USA Haulin' pack includes the base game. And there's Zombie DLC. Why? Why am I considering spending $10 on a TRAIN simulator? WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?

Ok, you all convinced me. I'll pick up KOTOR when I get home from work tonight. It's cheap, and such a highly loved game, I'd be a fool to pass it up at that price from what I gather. Thanks for the advice everyone. I appreciate it, my wallet hates you though (all these cheap games add up, dammit!)

Yeah, I already picked up Haulin USA.

As for how it is, Honestly, I've never played the game. This despite the fact that I picked it up during the 2010 Holiday sale. But at that price, and considering how expensive the DLC is, I had to pick up that pack.

I store all games that I buy in my inventory, so if I play Railworks and like it, I can add the pack later. If not, I figure I've got an excellent shot of at least breaking even on the deal if I try to sell the pack off.

If you have even the slightest interest, now's the time to buy.
