CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Mechanics are fairly similar but the older games didn't have ship battles till Empire/Napoleon.

Really the main differance is the setting and the fractions and the map.

Shogun is all about fedual japan.

Medieval 2 deals with well the medieval period of history so knights and archers and eventually cannons and the first types of muskets.

Rome deals with roman history time period with Greece and like elephants and flaming pigs and slingers and so on.

That's really the draw and selling point for each game. The period of time and units and nations is completely different from each game.
Actually, a few of these time periods sound even more interesting to me than Japan.
I guess I'll just download the demo for one of the older games to see if I like the gameplay and if the graphics still hold up. Thanks!
Grabbed Fortune Summoners. May talk myself into the Thief games later.
same here, except I took the money plunge with Theif
Actually AOEO was designed from the ground-up as a microtransaction-based F2P strategy MMO. See here: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/age-of-empires-online-launches-this-fall/.

There were and are premium and pro civilization packs as well as cosmetics and "boosters" available for sale. Most of these items are now available to buy using Empire Points, a new in-game currency earned by playing the game. See here: http://www.ageofempiresonline.com/en/articles/blog-20120711.
My two cents on that as someone who did grab those civilization content DLC before it went to the in game currency is that I feel like they kind of shat on us that went and supported them previously like that.

I'm not someone who pays for cheats and I would much rather unlock content through gameplay if that's an option (ie you will never see me buying those Magic unlock decks). With the old way I viewed it as the free version was sort of the game-lite and then if you like it you buy what more or less makes the full version for real money with the DLC. The way it is now I feel like some ridiculous person who paid real money for magic turnips in Farmville or some nonsense like that.

Also they really didn't do anything extra or special for those of us who were early supporters other than just straight roll them over to the new system. Maybe I am expecting too much but some extra reward or benefit would have been nice.

Anyway, as for the game itself it's okay. It's cartoony, MMO-y and definitely casual but it's not too bad. I suppose at least people can try it out for free before they decide to spend their money on it if they do.

Today is a good day for Dailies for me. Grabbed Thief 1&2 and Fortune Summoners for $10. Debating on if I want go get Rome and Midevil II total war for $5.

Ya, For me Medieval 2 is always the one I go back too and Rome as well. Also why so many are happy Rome 2 is their next game coming out.

As much as I like Shogun..Feudal Japan being such a small nation and island doesn't really lend it self to a diverse map and unit choice as well as the older periods of times did.

I mean like in Medieval and Rome you have all kinds of different types of horses and spearmen and swordsman and fraction choices each with a few unique units for them. Plus it just feels different starting with Denmark instead of Egypt and so on.

I mostly bought Empire/Nap/Shogun 2 just to play for when I feel the urge to play in that time period. Really hoping Rome 2 will bring back the magic of diversity found in Rome/Medieval 2

P.S Also of note in the older games not all fractions are unlocked to start with for the campaign as it adds the rest as you conquer them in campaign mode. However there is a simple ini file editing for both Rome and Medieval 2 to have all the options available at the start.

I'm really excited about Rome 2. In fact if they end up having a decent deal or bonus or maybe even LE I might even pre-order.

I know last year Steam was doing extra discounts if you bought a pack + a pre-order but it doesn't look like they are doing that this year.

Only Sins of a Solar Empire trinity for me today. Unless someone can convince me I must buy some of the Thief games.
Super meat boy yes or no?
Absolutely yes, as long as you own a controller. Super Meat Boy is easily the best platformer I've played in more than the past few years. The key to SMB is to not give up. Every level is beatable, and even in the most horrible cases enough practice can eventually get you through it.

Super Meat Boy was fun until every level started relying on the awful slidey wall jumping physics.

It's really rather simple but it's good fun and the price is about what it's worth.
Anyone have an opinion on how difficult it would be to map the STALKER games controls on to a controller using xpadder? What about the Thief games?
Stalker has a grid based inventory so you need a mouse or mouse equivalent for that. Apart from that it's not a complicated game.

Thief COULD translate to controller but it would be tight to fit all that in. You would need a walk modifier, two lean directions, and two inventory directional cycles and probably two more for weapons. Then use, crouch, attack, block, holster, jump.

No argument here. I bought the retail pack from Ebay for $5 so I've had access to some extra Greek stuff for a while and I also ponied up actual money for the Celts back when there was a price drop/sale. I don't feel terribly ripped off but it would have been nice to give people who spent RW money some bonus Monopoly money as a "thank you."

I'm thinking of getting Limbo and Ys: The Oath in Felghana.

BTW: Do I need to play the previous Ys games to understand the story?

I kind of want Carpe bundle, but I already have the merchanting game.

Saw this deal from the other day and just noticed it's still active: 40% off Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet making it $8.99 so think i'll be getting it since I suppose it stacks gamerscore. GFWL+Controller enabled, steam has been having some good sales.

Wow just got the need for speed, European warfront..Theif collection and Carpe Fulgur collection.. My harddrive it is dying from these steam sales. >.<

Oh well time to uninstall games and then stick to just installing them when I play them(Good thing I don't have to worry about that Batman DRM xD)

Someone on the Steam forum said that Kingdoms of Amalur is £10 so about $15.50 USD. Apparently the sale is not going on for the US because it's showing full price for me on the regular US page for it.

The UK site isn't displaying properly for me, probably because I am not in the UK, it's showing 100% off  though sadly you can't actually buy it for 100% off.

http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DD-KOARUK/kingdoms-of-amalur-reckoning-uk

Obviously doesn't activate on Steam though so you are stuck with Origin if you get it there.

No Oath is a stand alone story and Origin is chronologically the earliest in the series. You definitely don't need to have played other Ys games to play them.

I kind of want Carpe bundle, but I already have the merchanting game.

The pack isn't giving any significant discount over buying them separately so you aren't really losing out if you just get the other two.

Only complaint I have about Coconut Queen is that there are no achievements. I want the world to know how great I am at this game.

I'm on the fence with the Stalker games. I might get SoC to heap on the ol' BL. The only game I'm getting for sure today is Recettear. I know I'll eventually play that game. I'm trying to buy games I'll play- not games I want.

Welp, thats been what I've wanted the whole time. Anyone in the UK willing to lend a hand?

I'm still waiting for Counter Strike to pop up as a daily or flash.. I'm surprised it hasn't yet. It's probably the last game I want from the sale.

I'm kind of regretting not buying the Dungeon Defenders Collection now. I got the base game and it's a lot of fun, I should have at least gotten some of the major DLC when it was on sale = (
summerseal coupons-
QJ2XP-2KR9P-LH0M9 75% off trine 2 ce
G87Q7-DYTLX-BDGE5 75% off trine 2
Looks liek someone snagged the CE coupon. Haven't tried the other one. Just out of curiosity, where'd you get these? I'm sad I passed on Trine 2 CE when it was up a few days ago - really hoping to see it in the sale again as a Flash or on the last day.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is the one that's really good, right? I haven't played a driving game since the original Need for Speed and I'm sorta itching to try one again. Something with an arcade feel sounds like fun.

Added Chantelise and Fortune Summoners to cart (already have Reccatear). Recommended game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/211340/ Wat is this, with achievements too?

Almost out of the $100 I added to my wallout after getting anxious about putting too many small charges on my card in close proximity. I should cut myself off, but then again . . . also thinking about upgrading my video card from a Radeon HD 4550 to a 6850 next week, once I see what my paycheck looks like (includes working July 4th, which should have been time and a half).

Damages so far:
Legend of Fae
Dungeon Defenders Lost Eternia pack
Blades of Time Limited
Dead Rising 2: Off the Record Preorder
Fallout 3 - Game of the Year
Fallout: New Vegas - Dead Money
Fallout New Vegas Honest Hearts DLC
Vessel
Batman Arkham City: Harley Quinn
Batman Arkham City: Challenge Map Pack DLC
The Witcher 2
Ys The Oath in Felghana
Sam and Max: Seasons 1-3
Ys Origin
Sonic Generations - Casino Nights DLC
Alice Madness Returns
Toy Soldiers
Alan Wake Bundle (Summer 2012)
Binding of Isaac Wrath of the Lamb
Might and Magic Heroes VI
Summer Sale Indie Bundle Day Two

probably going to pick up TDU2 or Driver SF if they go 75% off per the community sale they lost. Still want to pick up a few others off my wishlist, too.

Here's hoping my paycheck is super awesome tomorrow.

I'm hoping the Brothers in Arms games go on more of a sale. I would love to re-play the first two on PC, so they look better.

Hrm, it sounds like Thief could be doable.

Right Trigger = Attack
Left Trigger = Block
Right Bumper = Lean Right
Left Bumper = Lean Left
D-Pad Left/Right = Cycle Inventory
D-Pad Up/Down = Cycle Weapons
Left/Right Stick (Click) = Walk Modifier
Left/Right Stick (Click) = Crouch
X = Use
Y = Holster
A = Jump

You even have "B" free for something else.

Sins at $5.00 is a no brainer.....

Why in the hell isn't Rebellion 75% off though? Or at least 50% off.

Think it will be before the sale ends?

Not a chance. It was only released a month ago.

Rebellion just came out so no, this is likely all the will happen for it this sale.
May have to grab the Thief bundle. I've already spent more than I should have, though
This, honestly I am starting to want the sale to be over. My will is so weak.
Never played any of the Total Wars games a not a lot of strategy games in general.
If I already own Shogun 2, does it make any sense to play the older titles that are on sale right now?
I don't imagine there's a amazing story in any of them and the game mechanics must be similar across the franchise, right?
To this day I still love Rome and Medieval 2 over Shogun 2 and Empire 2. I've bought all the games and I barely put 10 into latter two while I still keep going back to the first two now and then. There's probably around 200 hours I put into both of those first two and that's a lot for me to put into a single game lol.
Rebellion just came out so no, this is likely all the will happen for it this sale.
Does Sins require a lot of time investment? Its a steal at $5 and I've wanted it for years, but I don't know if I'll have the time to play it with 1.) everything else I've bought or 2.) just in general if it requires a lot.
Only complaint I have about Coconut Queen is that there are no achievements. I want the world to know how great I am at this game.

Yeah I know. It totally needs achievements.

I got up to the part where she tries to find out what the hell they did with all the women on the island and they get all evasive and secretive, but then I had to go to bed.

I need to catch up and figure out what the deal is.
So is there any advantage to Clear Sky and Call of Prypiat to Shadows of Chernobyl? Since they're newer.
different games in a series. I say start with the first and get the STALKER complete 2009 mod.

When I first played it I didn't find the learning curve to be tough at all. So you wouldn't need to invest much in it to learn how to play.

Yes, we are talking hours long for a game to play out. Half the fun is learning the skills and the different playstyles.

If you guyS wanna play Trinity hit me up I'd love to play against some bots.

Add me on Steam: viksmart

For anyone planning on pre-ordering Orcs Must Die 2, it's up for pre order on Gamersgate (Steamworks) and if you get the two pack with the IGN discount it comes out to $19.12 so $9.56 a copy.

Does anyone know which one or two of the STALKER games are the best? I don't really want to spend 11 bucks on a series I've never played before, so I thought I'd ask here.

Blah.... Sins only runs on 1 core though!!

WTF?

How can you make a game like this and program it to run on 1 core only..... it's rediculous.

Lol @ my quad core laptop that will fail playing this game. Especially on bigger maps.

Games are highly configurable, so if you just set 1-2 opponents and a very small universe, you can finish a game within 30-45 minutes. Bear in mind if you, like me, prefer your RTS with a story-based campaign, you're barking up the wrong tree. Stardock's not big on making campaigns and there is no campaign mode in SoaSE; it's strictly a sandbox game. That's not to say that it's bad, because it isn't, but it's just something to be aware of.

Oooh, thanks for that. I'm big on story, so that tells me that Sins probably isn't worth my time. Had been considering it, so this helps my wallet out quite a bit.
