CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Indie Bundles thread on Steam forums (link)

So... hmm...

Vampire Masquerade is most likely never going to be lower again.

And while it's been on sale more often lately than in previous years, it's still a very rare sale item.

And everyone gushes over.

And I may never play it.

But I have to buy it anyway, don't I?

\o/ For anyone who hasn't played Vampire you owe to yourself to play one of the greatest storyline rpgs..note I said story as the combat is just ok. But the story and the heart of the game is amazing more so with the community patch for it.
Oh dear, does anyone need to play Desert Bus, Big Rigs, or 18 Wheels of Steel?
Speaking of freeways and the big rigs that are on them, Did you know weight checks are mandatory for Semi's?...I didn't but apparently the cops did; 30k fine for not stopping at those things.
P.S. - anyone else find themselves spending more time reading this thread, checking the Steam forums, and checking Steamgifts than actually PLAYING any games?! Sad...
Watching those three alone is a full time job. Whose got time for games?
I've heard Vampire Masquerade is similar in style to deus ex? is it true?
It didn't feel that similar to me. As I remember Vampire was more open and quest driven. Deus ex seemed more linearish stealth.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is the new flash deal. $4.99

I'm a little surprised and admit I have no idea what to think about this.....
Saweet! Hope renewed that Jade Empire will hit a daily/flash of 75% off.
The Coconut Queen and her Brawny Gents are here to stay, along with all of the other gems in the Steam catalog.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coconut Queen and the brawny gents has been one of the best things to happen to this thread in many moons. The regulars know whats up!

We're really creating so many giveaway's cause the Summer Sale is so repetitive and boring. We're giving away not so great games cause the games in the Summer Sale are so repetitive and boring.....and that's coming from a guy who's spent $250 on himself during this sale, not counting what I've spent on giveaways (even though most of those came from Amazon sales, but still).
So after playing 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul. I have to say without a doubt it is the hardest game I have ever played in my life. Dark/Demon souls is hard? Nope I wana be the guy? Nope Ninja Gaiden? Nope

....

I seriously doubt that anyone in this thread could even complete one long distance delivery in the game. Luckily there is a save function so you can pause your 8+ hour real life time journey for a breather. You want challenge this game has it!
I actually found it quite relaxing :) When I quit I had 2 or 3 other drivers working for me.

OHMYGOD! VTMB actually went on SALE! I thought I'd never get it off my wish list. Now they need to discount the Mass Effect series and I'm good to game.

I get married tomorrow. My soon to be wife won't be happy if I check the Steam deals right before the wedding on my phone, haha.

Lol... True CAG. ;)
Would you advise to avoid the scenario packs too? I've read that the Denmark and Korea packs are pretty fun. Are they just more map stuff? Sounds like the only content DLC is God's and Kings then?
The civilization and scenario packs (Denmark, Korea, Spain/Inca, Polynesia) each add a new civilization a new scenario related to that civilization. I've never actually played any scenarios; I just play randomly-generated maps with random computer opponents.

The base game has 18 civilizations to play. Each civilization has two unique items (unit, building, or terrain improvement) and a unique ability; this goes for the DLC civilizations too, so it's up to you if new civilizations are worth it. The 18 civs in the base game should keep you plenty busy for a while.

The Gods and Kings expansion, in addition to adding nine new civilizations, adds three scenarios and changes up the gameplay fairly significantly, adding religion and espionage, new city-state types, and more options for naval combat.

There are also some map packs and a Wonders of the Ancient World pack that adds three new wonders and a new scenario.

So, basically, Gods and Kings is the only add-on that adds a significant amount to the game. It's also pretty new, so it's not cheap.

tl;dr:
My advice: buy the core game for now. There's enough there to keep you busy until the Halloween or Holiday sale, when the DLC will probably go on sale again. I bought all the DLC except the Cradle of Civilization map pack (random maps are fine with me) and Gods and Kings (I'll buy it later) and I haven't even played as all of the non-DLC civilizations yet. You could also buy it now, play it a day or two to get a feel for how much content buying a civilization will add to the game, and buy some DLC on the last day of the Summer Sale, when it will hopefully be sale again.

As long as you're not on the actual altar she should allow it (She's marrying a CAG, it's part of the package!)

And also, congratulations!

A true CAG goes all and and does it as they say I do.

I finally played Coconut Queen for the first time, courtesy of Motoki.

It's extraordinarily reminiscent of similar casual games directed at women from recent years, such as Diner Dash. (The general function of the menu system alone is nearly identical.)

Overall, it's an adorable game, and other CAG's that have sampled the game are right: That dance the Queen does in the corner of the screen is pretty hilarious.

Unexpected belated birthday cash + racing addiction = two more Need For Speeds for me today. I was doing good keeping my money down until then. ._.

Actually, no, I wasn't, but oh well. I can pretend I was.

Congrats! :D I'm lucky I already have my girlfriend used to me watching sales like this. (Her being a PC gamer who gets lots of presents from me doesn't exactly hurt either).

Do you take...

Hold on Honey... It's loading. I won't be long. Coconut Queen for .49 cents!!!

If you are getting Vampire: The Masquerade, make sure to install the community patch to fix all of the bugs.

Link: http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php

To the person asking for a comparison to Deus Ex (original), I would say that DE had a larger, more open world with a more tactical feel (stealth/hacking). VtM had more "character" in that the world had some interesting touches (creepy mansion with changing hallways, beast-vampires living in the sewers, a great haunted mansion, ect.) that added to the atmosphere of the game. While VtM also had hacking and stealth options, there were some sections where combat was necessary (and poorly implemented, imo). I prefer DE overall, but VtM is still a great game.
I actually found it quite relaxing :) When I quit I had 2 or 3 other drivers working for me.
After getting used to it more I can see where it does have a oddly relaxing quality as everything is really so simple, yet you still have to concentrate on driving. Im going to have to start up a campaign and try that mode out. Only issue I have so far is I am still not used to breaking ahead enough and also not having a rear view mirror and side mirror causes me a ton of trouble with the law xD

Congratulations easily the most stressful and best day of your life \o/

Shift 2 is 4.99 as well even though it's not on the steam front page or the front page of this thread.

Give your best man your phone, load up your steam wallet and get him to check out the deals. Just be prepared to find some horse games in your collection at the end of the day. (or coconut queen)
any opinions on
need for speed : hot pursuit , undercover and shift.

any of them worth getting or not?
I've only played Hot Pursuit. I didn't really like it. I think I prefer more arcade racing (more like Burnout). I just found this one frustrating. YMMV
Saweet! Hope renewed that Jade Empire will hit a daily/flash of 75% off.
Window for that deal is probably closing as the last day has historically been a recycling of the bestselling deals of the sale, but with the flash deals/community choice anything is possible I guess...

It has side view mirrors. I don't remember if you need to press a key to turn them on or not.

Yeah, and it doesn't show up on the flash page when you click Burnout. Seems awfully difficult to find all the sales this time through. Not that searching is difficult, but by comparison to previous sales, it's almost like they're hiding them from us.
I get married tomorrow. My soon to be wife won't be happy if I check the Steam deals right before the wedding on my phone, haha.
That's what restrooms are for.
Shift 2 is 4.99 as well even though it's not on the steam front page or the front page of this thread.
Sonuva... Really wish I had known that before picking up Shift. On the one hand I feel badly tricked and annoyed by Steam posting only the older game on the main page, on the other hand they got an extra $5 out of the deal so what do they care. I'm hoping that if I show little to no self-control with this sale there won't be anything left to tempt me during the winter sale... yeah... that's the ticket.

You had to sell me on it didn't you.... $5 down and another game into the backlog that will never end.

Oh wow! I am going to hunt down that setting. This will make the game a bit easier now. It's a shame the actual like mirrors do not reflect anything. Limitations of the graphic engine I guess.

Wait til the honey moon to check :)
