CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Once a game is under a certain amount, like a couple of bucks, you start thinking about it differently. It's no longer about what you want to spend or can afford, but if you're going to play it. I probably make better decisions on $1 games than I do $10 games.
Kinda off topic, but does anybody know who cs_451 is on steam? I just logged on to steam and I see that I've been invited on to his/her friends list. I don't wanna click accept until I know who the heck it is.
Posted this a couple of hours ago while we were still in the final hour of the summer sale. Now that much of the hubub has died down, does anybody know who he is? I wanna know if I should accept or decline his invitation.

I have them on my friends list from my contest earlier this year. You could find that thread and search in it for that phrase. I deleted the documents I used to keep track of what which told me who was who. Their profile is private to friends as well.

EDIT: Actually, I didn't delete those documents yet it seems. It's Woodlands. (Related post: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9820166#post9820166)
I'm playing the tutorial and I love how she waves her arms all around crazy when you do stuff.
I fucking love that, its a cornerstone of the game's greatness! For those who havn't shared this experience, it looks something like this -> :whee:
If you go to your giveaway page on Steamgifts, there is a tab for Signature. The code for the graphic link is in there and you can place it in your signature.
DAMMIT, its that easy? I've been just posting an image of the signature.png link then adding a link to the giveaway over the image.
Wtf is so special about those badges ?
They are like ExtenZe for your e-peen; also, mine is bigger than yours...just sayin'
To think, after the next crossover, some of our new acquaintances here at this thread won't be around anymore.
They'll be back in the Winter sale, no worries
Defense Grid: The Awakening DLC: You Monster! 1.24 USD
fuck, I knew I was forgetting something!!
Motoki, is there anything you passed on?
Pretty sure NOTHING AT ALL. Pretty sure his last minute purchases took up 2 pages on my Steam feed.
All of this group stuff makes me think we should have a seret code word or handshake or something lol. Don't add anyone to a group unless they ask are you a coconut queen or something.
Agreed, and I think that secret handshake should be frantically waving your arms in the air when something good happens.
On another note, I won Pantsattack's Farm Frenzy Pizza Party giveaway! :D
lol, and here I entered thinking you'd need help.
re: the BGCC group
The idea was that it would be for regulars. By regulars I don't mean you have to post 100x a day like I do but at least a comment here and there every once in a while would be nice. We should be able to recognize your handle. If we don't and you are a lurker please don't ask. I don't enjoy being a hardass and saying no to people, in fact I really dislike it.

It also would be nice if you have done giveaways before and/or plan to in the future. You don't have to have to have given away hundreds of dollars worth of games or anything but at least 1 or 2 low cost ones would be nice.

That group even with moderation is rapidly approaching 100. I'm really struggling to think if there are genuinely 100 handles I see posting here on a semi-regular basis. I feel like I don't think so but admittedly the sale does bring a lot more people out and posting.

The idea was to have a group of people who really were CAGs and participating here. As far as the giveaways go, if the group starts getting into the triple digits it will be like every other Steamgifts giveaway and the chances of ever winning anything will be ridiculously low.

If keeping a private moderated group doesn't work for keeping it just the regulars the other thing we could do is basically what the Penny Arcade group does and out and out state that if you aren't someone we recognize from the forums and win we will request a re-roll. I would really rather not get to that point though. At first I thought they were total hardasses for doing that but now I totally get it.

I hope I haven't pissed anyone off or made anyone feel too excluded. If so I apologize. I just really don't want the new group to get ridiculous like the CAG one has.
Agreed, don't worry about being a hardass. Wavering from the conditions is what got the CAG group so outta control. Well that and invites for all.
We're not trying to be "exclusive" in the snobbish sense. We just want to know each other.
What?! We aren't snobs?! I don't know how I feel about this.
Also, as with most Bethesda games, there's lots of mods for it if you get the PC version.
It should be illegal to purchase console versions of big Bethesda games (provided you have an adequate enough PC). Modding and better stability are more than enough reason for this. I only bought Morrowind on Xbox because of the ability to use PC mods on it (provided you knew what you were doing).
Since we are back to the regular layout, I noticed this:

xFhc.png
And how many of those are the result of your gifting
So what is Jade Empire about anyway?
Pretty awesome Adventure RPG. At 75% off its well worth it if thats your thing. I suggest using the Monk if he is on PC, he wins!
Years and years go by. The game never ever goes on sale. Then for the biggest sale of the year it gets 50%. What the hell were the odds it would get a 75% discount the next day after the big sale which is generally when the biggest discounts occur?
Clearly there is a mole here on CAG.
Details please. Like why is the "blind" in parenthesis? Did you actually know the chick?
Bet it turned out to be his cousin.
Oh it was a real blind date. I thought you were talking about Dinner Date.
:lol::lol::lol:
Huh, a Bioware PC game with controller support? Thought they didn't do that.
It was on Xbox, pretty stupid not to have controller support on PC as well.
That is just horrible, Makes sense in a way I guess as there were hundreds of keys IIRC for SR3 DLC, Europa and Warband. and yet very few names that like 'signed' compared to how many keys there were.

Oh well like you said there is always scumbags; but it is just amazing how someone would take advantage of a awesome give away Tony did. Hopefully everyone on CAG got the games and keys they wanted from that list before hand.
Really hurts the chances of future giveaways. Hopefully they can find a way to prevent people from stealing keys. I thought the steamgifts giveaway was a good idea. Though I don't know if that created a lot of extra work- having to email out 190+ codes couldn't of been a fun time.

What I don't understand is why someone would steal free codes to giveaway some place else. What is the motivation that inspires someone to do such a dastardly thing- baffles me.
What if I convinced you otherwise? Ask yourself, "How many similar games do I have in my Steam backlog?"

I've never played Kingdoms of Alamur, so I have no opinion on the game itself. However, I find the controversy surrounding it is quite sad and intriguing.
You are probably right. I think there is some weird thing about a game being extremely rarely on sale that makes me want it more. I fell into the Jade Empire trap for that same reason.

There's also the fear that it will be yanked as there have been several games I wanted, but never got before they got yanked. In those cases too though honestly if they weren't yanked they would probably either be backlogged forever or I would never get around to buying them.

It's some stupid psychological thing that makes little rational sense, I admit it. :p

Guess I'll get Jade Empire then. Can't resist at that price, considering how rarely it's been on sale.

I really feel for everyone that got it 50% off yesterday.
You could say that about the Mass Effect series as well, but they have no controller support. Sucks.
Lol man, i got set up with someone I never met. We exchanged pictures and stuff over the phone. So it wasn't blind per say....but when I actually met her, I was wondering who she was and if she ate the girl I was supposed to be meeting.

Saturday id have rather eaten alone like Julian.
I got an easy solution next time that happens. Take your laptop with you, and the minute you realize you ain't feeling her at all, take out your laptop and start grooming your unicorns and telling her how Secret of the Magic Crystal is your favorite game and you have to keep up with your ponies or else they'll get sick or die. Pretty sure you'll be eating alone after five minutes of stroking the sparkle brush.

He wanted karma because people thought he was some great guy giving away lots of free keys. Not many questioned where he got the keys from. Now the secret is out. "Let me pull a complete scumbag move to get internet points that don't do absolutely anything!"

I didn't visit the Amazon thread at all during the summer sale (Sorry Tony), so this is actually the first that I'm hearing about this giveaway. I already own Europa, and I just bought the Saints Row 3 collection last night and have zero interest in Warband, so it's no skin off of my nose that i didn't get any of the freebies. But it really sucks that some douchbag posted all the keys on reddit like that.

Might be more headache than it's worth, but if I were Tony, I'd be sorely tempted to do a mass-revoke on all those keys and then try and do another giveaway through some more controlled method.
What I don't understand is why someone would steal free codes to giveaway some place else. What is the motivation that inspires someone to do such a dastardly thing- baffles me.
Well, he was bitching that people weren't praising him enough for his "generosity" so I guess he has some pathological need for accolades and validation that's worth stealing things for.

Edit: I don't hang on Reddit so I wasn't familiar with the karma thing although I guess that's part and parcel to my answer.

Yeah, it is pretty lame. FYI I just had to chat with a steam gifts rep and they added and automated the whole give away so I didn't have to do more than create it.
You could say that about the Mass Effect series as well, but they have no controller support. Sucks.
Really? I was unaware... My guess then is that the team that ported it decided not to be assholes?

So I flipped over to gamersgate to see what's up and THE PARADOX SUMMER SALE STARTS TODAY! :whee:

I'm pretty much tapped out after the STEAM SUMMER SALE, but if you haven't had enough daily deals, maybe you can get a small fix over there.

catching up on the last several pages since last night. (Damn this thread moves fast) Looks like i lost the Coconut queen giveaway =( Grats to the winner. Can I get an invite to Brawny Gents and Coconut Queens please? Im gonna be online just for a bit longer before i gotta leave for the evening and id like to enter Sophias Freedom force giveaway before i leave

Is there an official Coconut Queen demo btw? I didn't actually buy it because i couldn't find a demo. I saw some uploads of it but the sites looked kinda meh. I was wondering if there was an official demo out there. Nothing on the steam page that I saw

*edit* forgot my id

It raises their contributer status which gets them into higher and higher tier contributer giveaways with a much lower pool of people to compete against and thus a higher chance to win free stuff.

Although of late with all the railworks giveaways with 90% markup and such being a contributer is the new black, it seems.

I'm in the same group of "I bought Jade Empire yesterday and now I wish I hadn't". But honestly, it's a great game. Also I was REALLY hoping for The Last Remnant to go on sale and it never went over 40% off (that I know of). I figure my karma has balanced since I got it for free on GreenManGaming this morning!

I'd list the damage this sale did to my wallet like many of you have, but I don't think people want to scroll that much. :p
Really? I was unaware... My guess then is that the team that ported it decided not to be assholes?
Bioware has a habit of refusing to allow controller support on the PC versions of even their extremely obvious console ports. They even once made a comment about not wanting to ruin the integrity of the PC version of Dragon Age 2 by allowing controller support.

Keep in mind, this is the same game where the lead designer stated "When you push a button, something awesome has to happen!"
I can't believe I'm buying the daily deal right after the summer sale.
ditto that sentiment. I can't believe I did that either.

But, yeah, why not. Everyone seems to have good things to say about it, and I've never played a game set in this particular genre before (Well, not ones in english anyway. Obviously taiwanese games have a plethora of games in this genre). It's going to be fun to see what Bioware did with it.

Curious - why haven't there been sequels to it? Did it have awful sales when it first came out? Seems like a pretty unique IP not to have them.
Although of late with all the railworks giveaways with 90% markup and such being a contributer is the new black, it seems.
Here I am like a chump giving away things I think people might enjoy :whistle2:(

I must be a really CAG. I didn't buy anything the whole sale and even at 75%, I'm not sure about Jade Empire still. My problem is the backlog and time where I don't think if I had some free time to play something, it wouldn't be on Jade Empire just yet...Maybe I should wait for the price drop to $9.99 and then wait for the 75% off.

The key seems to be to figure out the order of games you want to play and estimate when you will get to it. If it falls in the next sale, then wait. :) At this 75% off, I think it's possible that it'd match this during the Halloween and Winter sale.

Steam, if you're listening, I want to buy Freedom Force Pack for 75% off or 90% off if you can swing that? I'm sure you want my money.

Not entirely true and creating a new account isn't always that simple depending on how someone is banned. Depends on how adept the user is.
