CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Yeah. The extended cut added some time to each of the endings, and added a choice that should've been there before, but honestly I don't think it changed much of how I interpreted what the original endings meant anyway, or what I surmised must have happened (for instance, why the Normandy flies off). I think if you just flat out hated what the original endings were in the first place, then you wouldn't really like what the extended cut added, because the idea behind the endings (except for that added one) didn't really change.

Wow, that was fast. So far I've accomplished very little other than harassing people on the streets.
RE: Mass Effect 3 - I liked the game very much, I didn't hate the endings as much as some people did. I do think the extended cut endings improve on the original endings but I still would have liked to see some more variety there.

RE: Saint's Row 3 - I don't know if fast is the term I'd use. :) Looking at my stats I see that I put 56 hours into it in the last 12 days - lol
How does buying Steam-activated games from Amazon work? Do they give you a key?
Yeah. All Amazon games, AFAIK, come with a key to activate. So the ones that can be Steam-activated, just use the key.
If you did the IGN Prime thing and have the 15% discount and do a 4-pack with 3 others, you can get it for $12.75 on Gamersgate.
Ooh, best I've seen so far on Torchlight 2 for anyone who doesn't need a copy of the original, and it does activate on Steam. This is a consideration.
I think I know what I'm getting tomorrow 50% off!
I recognize that this is off topic, but why 50% off tomorrow? Is there a HPB promotion starting then? I'll be near one tomorrow.
Wait? What's this about Coconut Queen shark tank? I've googled and searched for shark in this thread.... what did I miss?
The shark tank/aquarium is one of the locked buildings, which is needed to get all the achievements.

Random curiosity question: Of the games you've bought from the last steam sale--which have you played the most/enjoyed the most (if different)?

So far I believe mine has been the Dawn of War franchise, playing Dawn of War I (atm). Also have gotten some really good play value from Killing Floor complete, Fallout 3, and Darksiders (which turned out to be ridiculously fun).

Cheers,

DA

Fable:TLC, I played it on the Xbox a long time ago. I have really enjoyed getting back into it.

Ok, I've spent the last half an hour catching up with the thread as I was too busy getting married yesterday to respond. In summary:

- I liked Mr Bean when I was a kid, but that was it. I think he's pretty big globally which is why he made an appearance. Bean, that is, not Atkinson himself.
- Rowan Atkinson's Blackadder work was indeed excellent, but if you like to delve you might want to snoop around for some "Not The Nine O'Clock News" footage. It was 1980s (70s) satire, but very, very funny. It was Atkinson, Mel Smith, Griff Rhys Jones, and Pamela Stephenson ('er wot married Billy Connolly). Taster:

- Since we're on about British comedy, I feel obliged to tell you to go watch every single Father Ted episode ever so we can start making FT injokes within this thread.
- Down With This Sort Of Thing.
- The opening ceremony of the Olympics made me pretty damn proud to be British, and has been greeted with widespread acclaim across here. We're generally rather cynical and self-defeating, so to make us all go "Jolly good!" in unison really takes something.
- The Queen is pretty much amazing, she can frown all day if she fucking wants to.
- I should be using semi-colons here instead of full stops (or periods, if you will) here I think, but it's too late for me to correct everything.
- There was another point but I've forgotten.

Tie-breaker answer: I had a Spectrum +2 followed by an Amiga 600. Do I get hipster points? :D
Have you tried Drakensang?, it is almost at the same and in my opinion better than DA:O. It is far more closer to BG2 and PS:T as like with Baldurs Gate it is based on a table top rpg system so there is a ton of depth and customization when it comes to leveling and choosing skills.
Thanks for reminding me about Drakensang: The Dark Eye! :)
I've had that for years (from D2D) - and still ain't finished it.
Ain't got back to it, in some time.

I really should, but newer titles keep getting in my way! hehe.

I am still missing Drakensang: The River of Time + Philleason's Secret.
I need to eventually get those, when those hop on sale somewhere!

The GamersGate pre-order comes with Torchlight 1, but not a Steam key for it. TL2 is the only one that says it comes with a Steam key.
Guess what I found at Half Price Books today!

I don't think we have any HPB in SoCal, but there were a few in Ohio, and their game section often struck me as a brick and mortar steam store, with tons of cheap copies of stuff that you never knew existed, or wouldn't've suspected had boxed copies. Among my finds there is a boxed copy of DEFCON. (Still unopened, because that's the only way to win...)
Random curiosity question: Of the games you've bought from the last steam sale--which have you played the most/enjoyed the most (if different)?

Although I've been playing a lot more games than usual the last few weeks, most of them aren't actually from the current sale. So perhaps by default, the winner for me is Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

NO, cause we were having a nice discussion on consoles and you have to bring computers into this mess!

Side note: I have an Amiga 1000, it's older and therefor more hipster-esq!! Played the shit outta Marble Madness on that!

EDIT: Super pissed though; one summer I was away from home for several weeks; my dad decided to sleep in my room because of the heat (weird...especially when I'm 90% sure he had had his girlfriend over...) and he fucking knocked over my Amiga monitor!!!!!!! Cracked it and pretty sure there is loose pieces in it. Never had the heart to try and see if it was broken... And you know what he said when I confronted him!? "You shouldn't have had it out where it could get knocked over"

I guess I could have been more clear, but this is what I meant. For those who already have TL1 on Steam and are just looking for the best price to have TL2 (on Steam).

We didn't have consoles over here, they were for rich kids with too much pocket money :D There were just circles of Spectrum/Amstrad/C64 kids trading cassettes in the corner of the playground.

GTA Collection was a steal, forgot how good those games are. Saints Row 3, while it has its flaws, really takes advantage of a decent PC. Blows the doors off the console versions in terms of visuals but that's to be expected. Loving it so far.

Botanicula has also been a lot of fun, a beautiful point and click adventure that is great for chilling after a long day. Bought a lot more, but those are the three I got into first.

I've played Darkness II, Force Unleashed 2, and Cave Story+. I enjoyed them all but, I'm glad I didn't pay full price for Force Unleashed 2 haha. My attention the past couple days has been going to The Witcher 2 which I bought months ago and never played. The game is pretty awesome IMO.

So many more games to go..

Yeah, it took me a bit to get into at first because I only played bits and pieces of the first one and it took a little while to get used to combat and all the signs but, I'm about 10 hours in right now and I'm loving it.

The game I've played the most is Fallout: New Vegas. I got 103 hours out of Fallout 3 and I'm guessing it'll be similar with NV.

The one I've enjoyed the most is Burnout Paradise -- and I'm not exactly in my wheelhouse when it comes to racing games so that's saying something.

that dodge mechanic took some time to get used to. :(
lol, that was painful to watch.. I only made it about 2.5 minutes. :)
I got through the whole thing and rather enjoyed it. Points of note:
- The concept of a household having more than one computer was clearly a foreign one 20 years ago
- The game design team working on this new, future game called Neverwinter Nights
- The sound of a floppy ejecting
- Games are played by mashing keys as rapidly as possible, any keys
- The hair

Congratulations on getting married, mate. I lost a lot of my gaming time, but gained a really good friend. So, the pay off was worth it.

As for games I've played from the summer sale- "one more turn" is going to be the bane of my existence.

I ain't played much, since I didn't buy much from Steam Summer Sale & since a certain game took up a good deal of time..
I bought Saints Row: The Third from Amazon DVG - and that game took away 25 hours of my life. And, it was AWESOME! :D

If anyone has bought the "Rockstar Classics" (Steam version) and don't intend on playing Bully: Scholarship Edition I'd be happy to buy the Steam key off you.

PM me if you're interested.

I didn't read the article, but it seem really dumb that private giveaways gets added to your contribution. I won't get into specifics, but I think anyone who has hosted a steamgifts giveaway can figure out how to artificially inflate contributions. I guess this could be applied to group giveaways too.

I understand from that standpoint why they would want to get rid of contribution system. However, I hope they keep a system in place where people can get recognized and rewarded for contributions.

Well they're work so they're mon-fri 9 to 5 games. I've been trying to set some boundaries so I play like "my choices" on the weekends and nights but at the same time I know that I can get more done if I play "work" games at those times.
At that price, you'd be insane to pass on Divinity 2: DKS.
That's just a REALLY good action-RPG.

Well I have it for the 360 but like usual I see it that cheap for the PC version and wonder if I want to experience them both.

Yeah, Darkness 2 was short but, I had a blast playing it. I even played some of the side missions to extend the longevity but, I feel I got my $10 worth.

As for Saint's, it was a hell of a ride on the 360, I actually bought another copy for PC to play co-op, it plays much smoother than it did on 360, not to mention it looks a lot better as well haha.

God I need a job like this.

I finished Crysis. Awesome game though the last level is pretty buggy.

I've also got 11 hours into Saint's Row, most of which was just running around blowing shit up and smacking rival gangs with my dildo bat. I've only done a few story missions.

I did the same thing at first, then I started doing the early missions and I realized they were basically the same things I had already been doing (buying property, side missions, etc. At which point I wished I had just played through act1 without doing the goofing around (but don't get me wrong - I had a blast playing the way I was playing anyway).

I still have yet to play crysis. I did play crysis 2 on console, but haven't gotten around to the first one yet.

RE: Darkness 2 - I had rented that from redbox and played through it in a day. I really enjoyed it - a very solid 8-10 hour shooter.
