CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Now there's a quote I'd never expect to see on CAG. Long live SR 3

Totally forgot you mentioned that was going to happen. Congrats! It's good to see you still kept your priorities in order and posted in here today, though ;)

I've also got 11 hours into Saint's Row, most of which was just running around blowing shit up and smacking rival gangs with my dildo bat. I've only done a few story missions.
So you know - the story missions are AWESOME! :D

I don't know if I want to buy DKS with my huge backlog. Amazon will probably have it on sale again in a couple of months anyways. Or the base price might be dropped to $20 and 75% by the winter sale.

hehe exactly my thoughts
I finished Crysis. Awesome game though the last level is pretty buggy.

Yeah, I played the entire game (Crysis) and had to give up on the last stage due to some bug (can't remember what it was) corrupting or crashing the game. Which was REALLY bloody annoying...

LOL! :D
A true CAG! :D

Though, I still think at $6 currently, DKS is a STEAL - with Div 2: Ego Draconis - Remastered Edition + Flames of Vengeance expansion.

That's A LOT of hours there...
XFire has me clocked in at 93 hours w/ Div 2: Ego Draconis (before it was the Remastered Edition in DKS Edition).
Ratpr has me clocked in at 28 hours for FOV portion of the game (since that's all I played, when I got DKS).

I had that bug too, luckily you can fix it by simply running the game in DirectX 9 instead of 10. (Which would be a big deal except that it's only for one boss battle, so I didn't care)
Ok, I've spent the last half an hour catching up with the thread as I was too busy getting married yesterday to respond. In summary:

- I liked Mr Bean when I was a kid, but that was it. I think he's pretty big globally which is why he made an appearance. Bean, that is, not Atkinson himself.
- Rowan Atkinson's Blackadder work was indeed excellent, but if you like to delve you might want to snoop around for some "Not The Nine O'Clock News" footage. It was 1980s (70s) satire, but very, very funny. It was Atkinson, Mel Smith, Griff Rhys Jones, and Pamela Stephenson ('er wot married Billy Connolly). Taster:

- Since we're on about British comedy, I feel obliged to tell you to go watch every single Father Ted episode ever so we can start making FT injokes within this thread.
- Down With This Sort Of Thing.
- The opening ceremony of the Olympics made me pretty damn proud to be British, and has been greeted with widespread acclaim across here. We're generally rather cynical and self-defeating, so to make us all go "Jolly good!" in unison really takes something.
- The Queen is pretty much amazing, she can frown all day if she fucking wants to.
- I should be using semi-colons here instead of full stops (or periods, if you will) here I think, but it's too late for me to correct everything.
- There was another point but I've forgotten.

Tie-breaker answer: I had a Spectrum +2 followed by an Amiga 600. Do I get hipster points? :D
Congrats on getting married! :applause:

I would also like to say your country did a fine job on the opening ceremony. Especially, the lighting of the torch. :applause:

C64 here!
Agreed 100%
There's so many great moments, I don't know where to begin...

The Computer Mission has some of those:
The game acting like it's lagging in an online game w/ a bad connection;
being turned into a toilet avatar;
snail motion thrown at you;
and a TEXT ADVENTURE!

This thread has been on the top eventhough summer sale is already over. Hehe! Alot of people who were console only gamers were finally converted to pc gamers.

*seriously, never expect the game has a pretty elaborate story mode. Crime fighting trucking !?!?

The copy that floppy made me think of another clip that seemed to appear projected on the wall atold lan parties I used to attend.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zng5kRle4FA

In 2000, Volition, Inc. released a computer animated version of the The Dead Alewives "Dungeons and Dragons" titled Summoner Geeks. It was a 3D animation test turned promotional video for the Summoner video game and featured characters from both Summoner and Red Faction. The "Where are the Cheetos?" character was played by an oversized demon, Luminar. The video was included in the game, and can be found by viewing the credits.

I little interesting tid bit about this material.

The Dead Alewives an improve comedy troupe in the 80's and 90's created the skit.

One of the former members creator and writer of The Dungeons and Dragons sketch aka "Summoner Geeks" Dan Harmon, went on to serve as executive producer and head writer of NBC's Community.

During the sketch, one of the players mentions he has an "ogre-slaying knife" which inflicts "+9 [damage] against ogres!". In tribute to the sketch, ArenaNet added the weapon (complete with its +9 damage modifier against ogres) as a collectable item in the game Guild Wars after clearing a challenging PvE area. In the same area, there is a boss enemy named "The Darkness", which the players have to defeat. Thereby, players can "attack the darkness".

Blizzard Entertainment has added a quest called I Shoot Magic Into the Darkness to World of Warcraft.

There is an entire questing area within Kingdom of Loathing that parodies this sketch as well as numerous scattered references within the game elsewhere.

Also, in Diablo III the wizard has the spell "Magic Missle" also there is a achievement known as "Attacking the Darkness".

I still have that saved on my computer. Watched it again just now for nostalgia's sake and noticed the purple bunny 20 seconds in on the floor above the table.
That same bunny appears in Saint's Row the Third (also a Volition game).
I was looking at that bunny on a the boat a few days ago wondering why the hell it looked so familiar!

@MysterD I really loved just about every mission in that game. The ONLY thing I didn't like were the escort side missions.
Not being able to shoot at the damn news media took me right out of the game.
I still have the Season pass stuff to play through but the game itself will be hard to top.

Love this video! :applause: I remember stumbling into it after playing The Summoner. One of my first PS2 games along with Dynasty Warriors 2. Infact IIRC The Summoner was based in DnD like tons of dice rolls and like stats and such not sure if it used the actual like licensed engine though.

Also now I know why Community is so funny.

Hmm is the bug common? I was just about to start playing the game for the first time.

Hi, I'm a new CAG and SteamGifts member. I'm already a big fan of the community.

I would also like to thank everyone for their comments about the great deals during the summer sale. Now I have a large backlog, and need to hide my wallet. Buying Steam games is getting addicting.

I also took the advice of my fellow CAGs, and started to purchase games as Gifts. So maybe in the future if I can't work through my backlog or I get an extra copy in a bundle there will be more giveaways.

So, I went back to playing Alice tonight, this time with a controller. Much better that way. Still not sure about the dodge mechanic in this. Don't like that I have to direct where the dodge goes and there is a delay in there so I have to anticipate things a bit more.

Learn to love that dodge and how to spam it like your playing track and field. Some of the later levels you have to dodge exploding "missle" type effects while being swarmed in close quarters and dodging is the only way to win as when your dodging your immune to all damage. So sadly some encounters amount to nothing more than dodge..dodge..slash slash..dodge.dodge.dodge.dodge.

It is a million times better with a controller! The dodge takes some getting used to I agree.

I posted in the group buy thread a while ago but I tried the demo for Wanderlust and would like to nab myself a copy and was hoping to get in on or even start a 4-pack.

Appears to be. The game runs fine up until the last level. Once you get off the island you want to force DX9.

Within Steam right click the game in your Library > Properties > General > Set Launch Options > add "-dx9 "

A little crazy? Speak for yourself, I am full on nutzoid.
Alice: madness returns, never tried it with keyboard and mouse, but it's one of the few games my wife and I have that we have both beat and definitely xbox controller is the way to go for this game.
Also if anyone wants to add me on steam click on my add a friend icon in signature.

Anyone else bought Wanderlust: Rebirth and try it yet? I only played 20~30 minutes into it and so far the first impression is pretty disappointing. Game menu/interface is unusual, music is generic, and telling what's going on screen sometimes difficult cause attack signs (such as Wham!, Bam!, etc.) obstructs the view of your character. Does the game gets better as you progress?

Played DCS Black Shark tonight. I got it during the sale. It's a helicopter simulator. Playing in simulator mode, it's really quite a challenge. I do love simulators though. You'll have to let us know what the farm simulator is like :)
Hmm is the bug common? I was just about to start playing the game for the first time.
Its been a while but i think its not terribly uncommon, the fix, again its been some time and im speaking entirely from memory, is to simply force dx9 through a launch command.

Another game added to my BL. I've heard great reviews on how awesome the female customization and voice acting is in this game which was the true selling point for me. Any chance I can play a solid RPG with a female character I'm in.
Looks like steamgifts may be getting rid of contributor status after all:

http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/2am...x-bundle-keys-and-contributor-values-option-2
I really hope they stick with that plan. Makes the site more about giving games people want and less about "winning" the meta game.

Also if the whole voting thing actually happens I think that CAG has a duty to do what we can to get Coconut Queen up to the top of the most wanted list.

The Wanderlust sales are being encouraged because every sale contributes some money to Starbound, which is like this amazing sci-fi version of Terraria.

Just Cause multiplayer is...amusing. I wouldn't call it "fun" until they fix the syncing so everyone in an aircraft doesn't just grief everyone on the ground.

Now I gotta go try this game :)

Just an FYI: The Pat and Mat game is a really cute game for kids - my 7 year old really likes it. So if you have kids (or just like some simple, relaxing puzzles), it's well worth $3.39 IMO.

Ugh GTA: San Andreas is so poorly optimized for PC (at least on Steam). I understand the dated graphics, but the textures are really muddy looking (especially when you look at Xbox or PS2 graphics), the textures load super slow sometimes to the point where I was driving on nothing on a few occasions and buildings literally pop up out of nowhere, and a lot of glitches I don't remember experiencing in the past.

You know, that game's been on my mind recently, as well. I feel quite ripped off by the GTA pack, since Vice City has no sound without the physical CD and San Andreas has the issues you already mentioned. The GTA ports are, sadly, the best examples of some of the absolute worst console-to-PC ports.

GTA3 plays fine enough, and I've even got a nice XPadder profile that mimics the PS2 controls exactly. (Thankfully, auto-aim is still a feature in the PC port.)

Overall, though, I'd rather load up the PS2 or Xbox versions of these games.
