CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I have no experience with Ys Origin, but I am currently playing Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, and after getting used to the toughness of the game it is actually quite addictive. Just remember one thing if you decide to go with Stalker: SAVE OFTEN. F6 is your friend.

Play Ys Origin next, because I said so ;)

Ys Origin but remember to grab a soda when you start it. For a game with so much action, the cutscenes are JRPG-style interminable.

Yunica is absolutely adorable though, for, supposedly, a physically impressive woman who carves through more big bad monsters than any of her comrades ever seem to.

Ys Origin, lots of fun and you'll just keep telling yourself you'll stop at the next save statue, but you never will.

If you go with Stalker make sure you get the Stalker Complete Mod(http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009) updates the graphics and shaders so it looks better and runs better, also helps fix bugs in the game and clean up some of the translation works as well. Couldn't imagine playing Stalker without it.
Haha. I guess I'll start with Ys. Luckily it's a smaller download, so it won't take me as long. Thanks guys for the input! :DD
Not sure what's up, but steamgifts looks like it's down atm.
DoS by former mods maybe for their dismissal or maybe the owner is fixing some stuff?
DoS by former mods maybe for their dismissal or maybe the owner is fixing some stuff?
Judging by the convo someone posted here yesterday, suspect/hope it's the latter. SteamGameSales is also down though, so I'm wondering if it's not more of the former.
Just beat Coconut Queen! No cutscene (boo!), but it was still a blast to play through. Though all my non-CAG friends on Steam are making fun of my gaming preference over the last week or so...

Best part of finishing my assignments early in my middle school computer class :D That and King's Quest.
King's Quest was awesome. I will buy that series when it is finally on sale for a good price on Steam.
Battle Chess was ahead of its time. The idea was amusing and the battle animations fun but, on the Commodore at least, you had to wait for each animation to (slowly) load every time a piece got captured. So after a few games, you just turned the animations off which defeated the whole point.

It would have greatly benefited from a hard drive.
I remember that and then my dad built a 386 ibm compatible. Oh yea no more loading! :bouncy:
Oh, hells yes. I spent many an hour on Battle Chess. (Mostly watching MY pieces get the crap beat out of them - I wasn't, and am still, not any good at Chess.)

I always prefered Space Quest to King's Quest though - my girlfriend is a die hard King's Quest fan, though.
Such an awesome game. I still remember pretty much all the death animations. I would say King taking knight, Rook taking queen, and Queen taking Pawn were my favs

I had a few of the Space Quest games they were awesome too! However, Lucasarts won my heart in the later years.
Heh. I only recently discovered Yahtzee. He's one sarcastic bastard.
Yes, he is.
Oh yeah, I love ZP :) Just don't take the reviews too seriously, as even Yahtzee admits in Extra Punctuation each week that he just brings up points that made him mad originally, even if it was his own fault (he often blames mechanics or concepts that he messed up himself or that can be turned off/on in options and configuration).
Exactly. I love to watch Yahtzee's reviews on games I like just to see how he destroys some of them. His Demon's Soul's review kills me!!! WARNING: NSFW!!!!
Anyone excited for quakecon steam sale?
Since I own all the ES/Fallout stuff and I'm not really a FPS fan, not really. :p But it will be nice for other people. I expect it will be the weekend deal with maybe different DotDs to go along with it.

If they do post the pre-order for Dawnguard though, I'm in!

*Edit: Though I do keep hoping for a 75% off Commander Keen sale. It never seems to happen and somehow I don't see it being a featured deal of the day for Quakecon.

More fool me for getting QC for $9. It's squareenix. That stuff drops and I need to remember that.

The demo for QC is an accurate portrayal of it. I loved Portal 2 but didn't think it offered great puzzles. I feel the same way about QC's puzzles. The scientist is fun but he won't be Cave Johnson.

I like the Portal 1/2 puzzles. There were a few you had to stop and think about, but they never became so difficult that it interrupted the flow of the story. I think that would have hurt the experience a lot. Luckily the Portal community has bumped out some great stuff for both games that really will test you.

Dawnguard's achievements are showing up. Given the Quakecon registry entries and the fact it starts today, I would not be surprised to see Dawnguard up for some sort of prepurchase during it. Likely Quakecon to be the weekend deal at the very least.

The Quakecon pack this year is very nice for someone who owns none of the Bethesda/iD stuff. All the Elder Scrolls, Fallouts, Dooms, Quakes, and older iD games.
Don't forget their are other codes too; for Stronghold Kingdoms and 8bitMMO....

Thats what it looks like to me...

EDIT:

Hmm, Quakecon might make a good weekend deal. Depends on what they got on sale, although it's slim pickens for me since I own all the Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3+NV, Doom 1-3, Quake 1-3.
Just bought Noitu Love 2. I realize it could be cheaper (and has been), but it's about the pice of two sodas. I use to spend way more at arcades in 30 minutes.
I'm sorry, but I don't know what you are talking about...what is this soda? I'm only aware of pop where I come from!

I'll pop you one good! Everyone knows that soda is the true and righteous name for all carbonated sweet drinks. :)

Probably won't pick anything up from a quakecon deal. My wallet still hasn't recovered from the summer sale, and my backlog inflated so much. I don't think I could pull the trigger on anything.

Quakecon Bundle 78% off ($99.99) this weekend.

New deals daily. Today is Elder Scrolls.
Morrowind and Oblivion are 66% off ($6.79)
Skyrim is 50% off ($29.99)

Everything else is 25% off it seems.
I grabbed it. The "Not on Steam" thing doesn't mean much to me and I've spent $10 on worse things so why not give it a shot. Of course, right now my time is all being taken up by SR3 and Civ5 but a man's gotta have options.

Are both games equally worth playing or is this going to be one of those DA:O / DA2 sort of things?
I started with Drakensang:The dark eye(1) I'm only half way through so far and already think it is on par with DA:O.

I've heard that The River of time the sequel is even better and fixes the annoyances people had with the first game.So now I am looking forward to playing the sequel.

So with both games being amazing prolly best to start with #1 then you'll be even more impressed with the improvements in #2 or at least that is my thoughts.
Today's deal is Ticket to Ride at 50% off ($4.99)
Probably no Quakecon pack for me, but there's a GOOD chance I'll bite on this.

Edit: Damnit, the DLC isn't on sale. Might wait for a bundle/complete sale on everything.

I was about to post the same... no DLC is not so awesome, but the base game is probably enough fun by itself until the DLC goes on sale.

GameStop / Impulse :

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 50% off . ( $29.99 )
Not available in Eastern Europe / Russia . ( i think it can be gifted to those regions )
Offer ends Aug. 3 .
I was about to post the same... no DLC is not so awesome, but the base game is probably enough fun by itself until the DLC goes on sale.
You think? You ninja'd my posting of the dlc not being on sale, but if the base game has set the precedent of being on sale, and it would go into backlog anyway, waiting for winter to try to pick up the dlc isn't a bad thought.

Haha. I actually go back and forth with pop and soda. I grew up in the midwest, but I've been on the east coast for ~7 years now.

Don't think Quakecon will tempt me too much. Think being the key word here.
I was about to post the same... no DLC is not so awesome, but the base game is probably enough fun by itself until the DLC goes on sale.
Oh, you're probably right. But 50% also isn't a huge discount (in terms of Steam), and it's not like I don't have hundreds of other games I COULD be playing. I probably would have jumped on getting everything, but for just the base game, I think I'll pass and wait for a deeper discount. (Winter sale, hopefully?)

Thinking I'll also pass on the Indie Bundle II. I own EYE, and while the other games are intriguing, I'm trying to exercise restraint after the summer sale. But I'd be lying if I said it wasn't extremely tempting.

That seems like a really good deal. Dammit...will Steam just stop with these sales. So far nothing enticing yet, but if New Vegas Ultimate hits $10...I don't think I can resist it anymore.

Pop sounds like what people would've said during 1950s, by that logic half the country have Deloreans.

The way I see it, TTR is a board game, not a video game. So as the board game it came out just with one board and was a hit/fun that way so the DLC is not really crucial. Also, since there aren't too many board games like it in the VG world I'm really tempted since it is something different and something you could play MP online with others.
I wonder whats up with steamgifts, anyone heard anything about it?
The site has now updated to Maintenance, we'll be back shortly.

DAMNIT, STOP TRYING TO TEMPT ME. WHY MUST YOU MAKE GOOD ARGUMENTS THAT I CAN'T (and don't want to) REFUTE?

Pop is SO country. It makes me think of Ma and Pa Kettle sitting on a dilapidated porch in the backwoods somewhere. :p

Is 25% really the best they can do on Commander Keen? I know it doesn't cost much to begin with but that game is probably older than some of the people in this thread is it really too much to hope for 75% off? I keep waiting and it never happens.

Also, no sale on the Ticket to Ride DLC? What, do they think they are Amazon now?

Yeah, I'd totally be willing to grab Keen for 75% off. Maybe even 50%, since it's starting from $5. I remember playing at least a few of the Keen games when I was younger.

I'm hoping that maybe they'll have a "Non-Franchise" day where they put things like CoC:DCotE and Keen on sale (although I already own Cthulhu.) But I wouldn't mind possibly picking up Hexen for cheap, I seem to remember enjoying that as well, back in the day.

This years quakecon bundle doesn't seem anywhere near as good a deal as last years. $40 for the bundle if you found someone who preordered rage and skyrim.

I still have my floppies somewhere so I'm set. Too bad I don't have a drive though. They're about as useful as my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Coming Out of Their Shells VHS and cassette.

There is an additional discount if you preorder dishonored on the quakecon bundle but it doesnt seem to specify how much.
There is an additional discount if you preorder dishonored on the quakecon bundle but it doesnt seem to specify how much.
It takes another $25 off the bundle. You can throw them in the cart without actually having to buy to see the additional discount.

*Edit: If I am going to pay that much for Dishonored then I at least want the USB powered whale oil lamp bonus. :p

naw thats a float like a root beer float..

root beer SODA + ice cream...dam now im craving for one

I've really been thinking about getting Ticket to Ride on Steam, but I just bought Ticket to Ride Euro on my iPhone over the weekend...Actually come to think of it on my iPhone I have Ticket to Ride, 1910, Euro and Sweden and have spent a grand total of $4. I think I just talked myself out of it until it's 75% off.

Two Points:

 • Buy Ticket to Ride, you jerks! It's a great game.

 • The DLC is for new maps that have new rules, so that's up to you.
 • The Quakecon pack gets an extra discount if you pre-order Dishonored. However, that doesn't mean you have to pre-order it. If you know someone who has pre-ordered it, they can gift it to you at the additional discount price.

Ticket to Ride is an awesome game and if you don't own it on other platforms I would recommend the base game, but wait for the DLC to be on sale. I already own the board game, the iPhone version and the Xbox version, I wish I could justify picking up this one, but I can't.
