CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Well ended up buying myself Quake 4 and Commander Keen. After going to a very small comic con and not spending much, I decided to pick those two up. I just hope Commander Keen is not going to be a bitch to get working.
Worked just fine on my Win7. It took me a few minutes to remember the control keys though.
Alright Quake 4 is tempting me and my hold on my wallet is weak. How is the game if I was only going to be looking to play single player.
That should be all you're looking for from Quake 4. Q4, despite getting lots of improvements in the long run, just never drew enough people from Q3. It has a nice campaign in it though, so no problems enjoying the singleplayer aspect.
re: Legend of Fae

The horizontal only movement part doesn't bother me. At first I was expecting vertical movement but once I got used to the mechanics I was fine with it.

I do agree though that it get significantly harder as you progress. I will confess that sometimes I just go nuts and spam moving blocks around randomly at a frenzied pace. And you know what? It works!

It's a lame cheesey thing to do but gotta do what ya gotta do what do sometimes.
I've read the difficult level spikes drastically towards the end. I'm not looking forward to getting my ass kicked by Legend of Fae.

I also do the frenzied clicking- especially when the low health music starts playing, and my panic level shoots through the roof. I feel bad when I let little Claudia die. So, I frenzy click and use all the mana tubes for health. I rarely beat the time limits.
Also its finally nice to see Coconut queen dethroned for play time in the BGCQ group.

You shut yer damn hooer mouth, boy! :boxing:
I actually heard Jimbo's voice from South Park when I visually processed this message.
Also Steamgifts is down again.
And now it's back
tsk tsk, still having trouble keeping up with deals eh? :p
it was $3 on greenmangaming when it was on sale for $3.75 and you could use a coupon ;)
Actually I saw that a bit late, but I didn't have a coupon anyways.
I just downloaded CK and fired up a session. While it was strange to see a game start up in DOS mode everything seemed to work fine. I'm using a laptop with HD3000 integrated graphics and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I did get a "not optical resolution" message after exit but nothing actually changed from my settings before starting the game.
Same for me. Commander Keen works fine here with Windows 7 64-bit. No issues at all. It has Dosbox built into like a GOG game so anyone worrying about it not running on modern OSes don't.

It's a fun little game with several different sequels collected and definitely worth the $1.24 if you like retro side scrolling action games.
Also its finally nice to see Coconut queen dethroned for play time in the BGCQ group.
Heresy! :fridge:

In all seriousness though it is a good game and it's worth the playing hours a lot of us did put it into.

Having said that, the total hours played per group for any game will always be rotating since it looks at the last two weeks.

Steamgifts is being unhelpful, so no nice banner at this point, but if anyone doesn't have Armored Princess, I have it up for giveaway. The giveaway is open to all in the CAG group on Steam and who have given anything away in the past:

Thanks

I hope Saints Row The Third was what overtook it. I've been playing a lot of that lately.

Yep, it's been intermittent for some time now. Though it's not just today that's been bad.

Think I'm gonna sleep on getting Quake 4 and see what I feel like in the morning. Don't really need anymore games right now but its one I've had my eye on since it got on steam. Curse temptation.

Oh I felt the same way, and I decided to buy it. I guess I love old school FPS games better than most of today's offerings I said why not.

So this may just be a small annoyance, But does anyone else hate when you launch a game and the default resolution is super small mostly because it is a older game like with Quake. And it ends up resizing your Steam window and so you spend like minutes/hours trying to get it to the exact same half size you had it before but it never turns out right.

On that note, everyone should hassle Steam to offer Corridor 7. When most people were playing Doom, I was stuck with Corridor 7. I was pretty young back then so those floating eyes were pretty scary. Apparently its set in 2012, pretty sure the game was accurate with its prediction.

It isn't even just older games, I have had this very problem with many indie titles. Granted I run dual monitors, but I am really tired of indie titles that don't play well with common video settings.

Ya this is prolly like some kind of first world nerd problem. But damn it game resolutions leave my window sizes alone! Like you said it is like some games just have to launch at 800*600 as the default.

So I just spent an hour playing Ship Simulator Extreme!

On the first mission... about 45 minutes of that was me sailing back to port... because I forgot to anchor my ship... so it floated miles into the ocean... while i was on my speedboat stopping polluters... green peace... yah...

LOL at the reply's. I can see why the game would be good. I have fun with my kid on those Ipad games where you build and progress. Most noticably tap zoo.

Yes! I loved Corridor 7. The eyeballs were scary but what really freaked me out was the giant robot guy with the minigun. And you could hear his heavy footsteps slowly approaching in the distance. But yeah, for whatever reason I liked C-7 and Wolf3D a lot more than the Doom-engine games.

Who, if anyone, owns the rights? It looks like every company associated with the game is long out of business.

I have this image of some old guy just drinking alone in a bar and talking to some young kid about how back in his day he once created this game called Corridor 7 but then this Cormack fella came a long and ruined all his dreams.

Tally another rechristening request to Cheapy.

The Doom engine included command line tags to show the view to the left or to the right as you play the game rather than straight ahead. The reason for this was so an individual with access to three networked machines could arrange the monitors to give a peripheral view. I have always wanted to try this.

Been considering picking up a pack. I have all the Dooms on Steam, and I have Quakes 1-3 on disc (though I think I lack the add-ons?). Don't have the Wolfensteins and don't have Keen. But... I think I'm passing. Tempting as it is to throw a few bucks at something to retro up my Steam library, I don't see myself playing any of these before the next Quakecon at least.

I sent him countless emails for months on end to no avail. In the end, I had to send him a $20 steam wallet code for him to change it.

Jokes- though it did take a few emails over a couple of months.

Just an FYI:

I decided to pick up Book of Unwritten Tales the other day. I've played it for a couple hours so far, so I can't really give a fair review. I will say that I'm really enjoying it. The production value is really good IMO. I am especially enjoying the voice acting so far, as well as the visuals.

Will report back as I progress further, but as of now, I'm pleased with the purchase.

Great, I'd like to hear what you have to say, though I'll probably be purchasing it in the near future anyway.

Looks like the indie gala store is finally up. 1000 points = $1. Finally have a use for my 12500 points! Oh wait! After reading the FAQ, apparently you can only use a certain amounts of points per item. Only enough for like a 20% discount.

Here's a gem!
The Ironclads Collection
Regular price: $39.95
GalaPrice only: $31.96

This weekend I got no steam gaming in, but I did discover Final Fantasy I for ios, and I've already racked up almost ten hours, mostly while sitting around waiting to go up at mics. I'm kinda surprised at how much I'm liking it, and how much further I've gotten than I ever did on the NES.

Maybe it wouldn't be as much fun today on the TV if it were my main activity, but the simpler era gameplay + using it to get through awful stand-up comedy or even just sitting around at a restaurant tonight while someone was telling a long boring story has been great!

I played the remake on PSP, and it was a much more pleasant experience than the original or even the PSX version. Same with FF2.

That sounds about right

Dawnguard is now live on GMG for $20, minus whatever their current site-wide voucher is offering.

Edit: The voucher is PCGMR-ALLIN-GREEN for -25%, bringing the total to $15.

That is just so full of fail but we can't say we didn't all expect something like that. Considering that all these games are very likely to end up in one of their bundles one day, if they haven't already, the only way I'd consider one is if they were free, which apparently they are preventing people from doing.

Well if Square had some sense we could have been playing FF7 on Steam this weekend, instead they decided to do a launch that was just so full of fail that they had to pull it. *sigh*

A lot of people were really looking forward to getting it on Steam (yes MysterD I know, you want it DRM free on GOG :p) but if they get it back up and working with the Securom keys and then people don't buy it because of having its own client you have to install plus Securom with a 5 limit activation I am sure Square will determine that there just isn't a market for their games on the PC. :wall:

It is nice that they are doing the portables though. I've really been enjoying the Final Fantasy 3 remake on Android via my HP Touchpad.

BTW, the Touchpad already has an early test version of Jellybean (Android 4.1) out. No sound and video acceleration yet so going to hold off a bit.

The code is PCGMR-ALLIN-GREEN for 25% off bringing Dawnguard to $15. I tested it and it does work but I don't know how long that code is going to last. This is probably the cheapest Dawnguard will be for a while.

Thanks, I haven't been able to keep up with the flurry of vouchers they've been doing lately. I went ahead and edited my post with the correct info. :)
