CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Not sure about all that, but I just feel weird not saying "(no homo)" lol... Not really a personal insecurity kind of thing, but more because I feel like I have to say it. True dat. I was just speaking in general terms. I think they probably have one poor sap updating the entire store for minimum wage and the occasional pat on the head from Gabe.
I believe that Japanese developers do want to get into PC gaming. The problem is they have very little experience in making game for PCs. They are used to closed platforms with very few variations on the different consoles. The developers find it overwhelming from going from Q/A testing on a few different SKUs to literally thousands of different possible PC builds that don't even all have the same O/S.

Square-Enix sees the potential for selling their games on the PC and has been trying to take steps to become a bigger publisher in the PC market.
And they were doing so well until FF7FAIL.

But Last Remnant aside, it's more the Eidos side that's doing well in that department. And I bet Square blamed the Last Remnant not selling well on there not being a market rather than not being promoted very well, chintzy with the sales until very recently and just the general fact that it's a rather mediocre JRPG.

Truthfully though, I think the Japanese basically play the stupid foreigner card because it suits them. The reality is there are people and companies in Japan experienced with publishing for the PC some of them for many years even, they can seek overseas help if they want (it's been done before), and it's not that hard to do some very basic research on trends for the PC market or any market really.

Your wheel inspired me so I found someone selling this:

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wire...44580491&sr=8-15&keywords=360+wheel+microsoft

On Craigslist for $30 and bit. Spent an hour in NFS Hot Pursuit and had a blast but now I want a racing seat. It never ends.
I'm kind of with Lefty on this. I mean obviously on the surface there's no ill intent, but still I think it's a prime candidate for maybe we should think about why we do or say the things we do and if there really is a valid point to it.

I have a difficult time believing anyone would take a post in such a silly context so literally and seriously and if they did they are surely the one with the problem.

You're not thinking like a real racing enthusiast. You know that "passenger" seat in your car... it's just dead weight slowing your car down. Remove it (just a few normal bolts into the floor) and you get (1) a faster car and (2) an authentic racing seat.

And as soon as you have your racing seat you'll be regretting that you didn't pick up SimBin's Race 07 + expansions at 50% off during the steam summer sale.

After which comes the awkwardness of trying to drop the hint to your BF/GF/spouse that Nürburgring Driving Academy would be the coolest birthday present ever.

If you give a mouse a cookie...

This is hilarious because it's true, my friend got two racing games, then a xbox wheel, then built a cabinet to hold a recaro racing seat, 24"screen and $500 porsche wheel and shifter from oversea's, that cliff is a steep one

Actually I think any time you smack down money for and play something made by SimBin that automatically qualifies you as a "hardcore" racing enthusiast in the same way that 25 years ago if you bought and played anything by Strategic Simulations Incorporated (except Gold Box games), you were automatically a "hardcore" strategy nerd.

Man, I'm old.
Using plural verbs for collective singular nouns is a pretty common british convention, which is one more reason we're better ;). I believe Mode 7 is a british developer, so there you go.
I refuse to accept this premise; the reason the British are better than Americans is that we made Star Trek and they made Doctor Who (okay, and they drink tea and we drink coffee).

And from that sentence a great war began with the defenders of Star Trek on one side and the lovers of Doctor Who on the other. In the middle were a few people arguing about whether Battlestar Galactica was better than Babylon 5.

That's pretty awesome. I always felt like that wheel would be uncomfortable for long stretches. I used to have the 360 wheel with pedals and everything but it was too much hassle so I sold it at a yard sale.

Do we really have to go there? They are both great shows for entirely different things.
I got my boy atreyuer's back on this one, no homo. The term is just a term now. No one really thinks they are going to be accidently deemed gay or ever takes the term seriously. But the term isn't even about making a pass about anyone, it's about being deemed sensitive or other undesirable traits when it comes to being a super manly man. So most reasonable people never took it seriously and use it mostly to poke fun at the term.
I'll have to agree with Lefty as well; I just never and still do not "get" the term. Doesn't help I once knew guys where like every other word was "No Homo!" if anything I thought they were both "in the closet" because it seemed like they were both so obsessed with not being homo.

Not saying every guy who says it is or anything; just it is a really weird thing to say during a conversation,"So I was out with Mike and we were getting McDonalds together, No Homo, and I got a large #3.."

Plus I've always wondered what is the feminine version of, "No Homo!"(If now the term means something anti-manly..hmm). Oh well, Hey Lefty you sound like you would be amazing to go running with, No Macho! :whee:

Wait, people actually want this game?
It was the only "reward" I got from my coal in the Winter sale. If anyone actually wants it, PM me and it's yours haha.

All this talk of the 360 Wireless Speed Wheel makes me want one ... too bad it doesn't have the shoulder buttons and analog sticks, I could see playing a game like Rage or GTA with it then. My favorite steering wheel controller so far is this ...

gamester_pro_racer2.jpg

... I got it for $2.99 at GameStop, problem is it doesn't play nice with newer games, and my USB adapter, even though it's analog it still winds up just being L or R.

That pun made me cry into my synthale.

Okay, I'll do it. I'll be thread-derail guy:

Yes, they both have their good points but Doctor Who will always be better than Star Trek.

Yes, that is weird; it's not just you.

Unless Mike got a regular # 6, because that's such a gay meal.

So all this talk about the Xbox racing wheel makes me want to dust mine off and try it with some PC games...but the only racing games I have on Steam are the FlatOut titles I picked up from the daily deal a few days ago. Has anyone tried using the wheel with FlatOut 2 or UC?

Saw this in a Steam group posting that they reposted via Redit.

A warning to anyone trading for Dead Island, Steam has retroactivalely renamed all versions of it GOTY with the GOTY graphic to go along with it.

There are ways to tell the difference though. The real GOTY should say includes 3 items and list the DLC. See below

I ended up not biting on the Flatout pack the other day due to potential of them ending up in a bundle, but I do have Flatout 1 (from a bundle :p) so I will have to try it out when I get home.

I can just generally say that from my experience trying the wireless wheel out for a bunch of games, it pretty much works with anything that works with a regular 360 controller, though you may need to remap some of the buttons in the game's config.

I've never really liked that "no homo" thing mainly because it implies being gay is actually a bad thing to be. And it's just silly. But, like lefty, I'm also a girl and I might just not be as sensitive about platonic expressions of love, lol

Last night I played some Awesomenauts and Payday. Awesomenauts is a little chaotic - at some points in the game I had no idea where I was running or who I was shooting at because of all the characters onscreen, haha, but it IS fun. The AI can be kind of stupid, though, so the more real people you can get to play with you, the better. Last night I only played with one other friend.

As for Payday... well, it's interesting. I need to play more (only gave it maybe 20 minutes?) because I got downed a lot and failed the first heist. I was playing solo, though. I wanted to get the lay of the land before I jumped into any MP games.

BTW I'm American... and I have never watched a single episode of Star Trek, but I have watched all the episodes of the (2005) Doctor Who! :p

Yea, so I've only ever watched a single episode of Dr. Who (something about an astronaut shooting the Dr. and some invisible creature things and then ... I don't remember).

Whereas I've watched Star Trek, TNG, DSN, Voyager, Enterprise, all the movies.

That being said, I enjoyed the Dr. Who BOOKS. But the shows have been MEH at best.

That being said... seriously the British made a couple of the Discworld books into movies. And they are Hi-freakin-larious.

Hmmm, that is cheap enough to consider buying into a series I've never liked.

EDIT:
Completely off topic, but I just saw an Olympic commercial with BP sponsoring (or whatever they did) the American Olympic team... what? I understand their presence in the United States, but still it would be like Microsoft sponsoring the British Olympic team.

Hm... slightly OT, but I just bought a couple of Steam games for a CAG overseas and even though he sent the payment as a gift using Paypal, I still got dinged with a fee. Is this normal for international transactions? I'm not too familiar with Paypal, so I thought I'd ask you guys. How can I avoid that next time, if at all?

Edit: never mind, found a thread in the trading forum that answered my question
