CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Yea, so I've only ever watched a single episode of Dr. Who (something about an astronaut shooting the Dr. and some invisible creature things and then ... I don't remember).

Whereas I've watched Star Trek, TNG, DSN, Voyager, Enterprise, all the movies.

That being said, I enjoyed the Dr. Who BOOKS. But the shows have been MEH at best.

That being said... seriously the British made a couple of the Discworld books into movies. And they are Hi-freakin-larious.
Well, you certainly can't judge the entire series (approaching its 50-year anniversary) on the basis of a single episode of the new show and a few print adaptations. Like all things, it's had its ups and downs, but its superiority shines primarily in the fact that its premise allows for a great deal more creativity than that of many other genre shows. There are fantastic exemplars of the series under every Doctor (except for Paul McGann, who has done some great Big Finish audios but the Fox movie is pretty dreadful), although unfortunately many of Patrick Troughton's adventures are lost to us.

My thoughts on Star Trek in a nutshell:

TOS was a mix of good, great, and silly, and its greatest strength without a doubt was the interplay among Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelley as the leads. Great characters are often all you need to make good television, but TOS had lots of interesting stories too.

TNG started off terrible and got better. The first season was an abominable hodgepodge of rehashed (in many cases quite literally) ideas from the original series and bad missteps in terms of sorting out characters. The second season was marginally better and the show got progressively better from there.

DS9 was the best of all of the Star Treks, with the possible exception of TOS. Like all of the shows it had to find its footing in the first season, but the characters were varied and interesting, relationships were complex and stories were compelling. I think this was the first and best "mature" Trek series.

VOY, by comparison, was juvenile and tepid with few exceptions. The characters were almost cliches and the "we're marooned in an unfamiliar and unfriendly quadrant of the galaxy" thing just got old.

Enterprise got a bad rap. I like what Bakula and company were trying to with this, although at times it was a bit too grim for its own good.

Movies:

I: properly edited this could have been decent but as it was it was ponderous and dull

II: the best of the TOS movies? Maybe. I can't really decide, but this clash between Kirk and Khan is one of the best-remembered of the films for a reason.

III: a good follow-up to the second film but because it's pretty much all about recovering Spock the story is a bit thin; the Spock-Genesis Planet link thing was a bit weird, but this also has the consequence of lessening the dramatic impact of the end of II

IV: a silly-serious Trek, this film's environmental message is not too heavy-handed for conservatives to appreciate it because it's pretty funny too

V: the reason Shatner should stay in front of the camera, this pseudo-philosophical claptrap, complete with the introduction of Spock's half-brother(?!), is superfluous and I'd actually rather watch I

VI: an excellent swan song for the TOS crew, this is a thumping good adventure with Shakespeare and a terrific closing scene where we say goodbye to the old crew at least that is until

VII: which is dreadful--a plot that makes less sense than a Matrix movie--and a half-cocked excuse to throw Picard and Kirk together in the same movie

VIII: the TNG crew's first movie is fantastic, with fan-fav villains the Borg trying to conquer Earth again by going back in time--this is easily the best of the TNG films

IX: the second movie with the TNG crew didn't fare so well, with Picard disobeying Starfleet orders to help a primitive planet about be destroyed by a new alien menace; the story is muddled and not very interesting--this feels like a remix of a couple of the show's television stories

X: the Romulans try to trick Picard by baiting him with his clone/son, who is helming a huge Romulan battlecruiser; I probably remember this as being better than it was because of the death of Commander Data

XI: I get why people like to do "reboots" but rewriting the entire history of Star Trek?! :hot:

Never really read any of Pratchett's books or seen any of the animated or live-action features, but I did try to play Discworld Noir many years ago (it crashed only a few hours in, but I enjoyed the setting and character of Rincewind).

Completely off topic, but I just saw an Olympic commercial with BP sponsoring (or whatever they did) the American Olympic team... what? I understand their presence in the United States, but still it would be like Microsoft sponsoring the British Olympic team.
Well, not to get too political, but BP is looking for whatever kind of goodwill it can generate with Americans after the clusterfuck that was the Deepwater Horizon.

EDIT: Here's an off-topic inquiry: anybody know of a good open-source video editor?
Well, not to get too political, but BP is looking for whatever kind of goodwill it can generate with Americans after the clusterfuck that was the Deepwater Horizon.
Well yeah, but I figured there are better ways than sponsoring another country while the Olympics are currently being held in their own. Plus other ways that make more sense.

I hate when people say this. Creating an alternate reality/universe does not rewrite history. Parallel universes are not a difficult concept to grasp and people love making a huge deal about something so minor.

This bothers me as much as when people argue about how something based in the future is unrealistic. Oh I am sorry the purplish/blue alien with 13 limbs that can speak English without ever hearing it before now is unrealistic....

I guess you missed where I said whatever. Many people, especially those of us who actually live in Louisiana and other Gulf Coast states, aren't buying BP's contrition song-and-dance and their ridiculous PR commercials where they have people on camera saying things like "We live here and we're staying until the job is done." I personally think that BP executives (and Halliburton and Transocean too) should have been put on trial for negligent homicide or whatever the appropriate charges are based on what the DAs decided. Those men were killed basically to save BP some maintenance costs. Without even getting into the economic and environmental impacts, someone should have been held accountable (in a criminal sense) for those 11 pointless deaths.

Sorry, I got political anyway.

Okay, really, a Poker Simulator (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/sports/poker-simulator/)? Isn't that just a poker game?

However, the Towing Simulator (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/simulation/towing-simulator/), Bungee Jumping Simulator (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/simulation/bungee-jumping-simulator/) and the Mining & Tunneling Simulator (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/simulation/mining-tunneling-simulator/) piqued my interests.

And of course the obvious question is whether to get the Road Construction Simulator (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/simulation/road-construction-simulator/) or the Road Works simulator (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/simulation/road-works-simulator/)...
I think they are sponsoring the USA Women's oil cleanup team ;)

(BP will always be linked to this no matter what they do in my mind)

Edit: Also regarding this whole Star Trek thing, Personally I hate Star Trek find it dull and not interesting and always found it weird how they use Remote Controls! to shoot people. I've always preferred Firefly over any other sci-fi series.

Unless I misunderstood what I was watching, no, they literally erased the entire history of Trek up to that point, so I can agree with your basic point that parallel universes don't "rewrite history" but that doesn't appear to apply here.
Who is excited for Sleeping Dogs, especially since good reviews/impressions are being released from multiple sources? I'm trying to decide whether it's worth a buy or wait until winter sale...

I bought it last night, excited. Want Darksiders 2 also but I'm going to hold off on that one.

You don't need to pay "full price" cause it's around 35% off on Greenman with the ORDER-NTCOM-PLETE code. Code expires early tomorrow morning. You can get Darksiders with the same code for 25% off.
I want Sleeping Dogs so badly! Man I really do want to preorder this, but I definitely don't have any money to spend since the summer sale. (Well, at least not that much.)
And sadly I have a $500 BB unused gift card, but of course they don't offer a PC digital download for pre-order. fuck
Free-to-Play Maple Story is now on Steam.
Ahaha... that game... I played when years ago in the BETA and followed it for a few years. It became way too much though.
Cryostasis is great. There are a few memorable moments and some pretty unique gameplay elements, including the mental echo ability which is both an interesting idea and also is a pretty innovative way to advance the story. The story and atmosphere are also some of its highlights, and I'd definitely recommend it to you if you enjoy a game with a nice story.

The game was criticized by the poor optimization and somewhat subpar combat mechanisms upon release, but don't let that stop you - it's definitely worth playing.
I actually saw a Steamgifts entry for Cryostasis while making my usual morning rounds. I forgot about that game, so I decided to add it to my Wishlist just so I don't forget again. Will definitely pick it up when I've hacked through some of my backlog and find a reasonable price.

So your saying that if what occurred in the movie happened in an parallel universe it would mean the other universe, that of the previous movies and TV shows, ceases to exist?

I'm not even remotely talking about what they are doing from the latest movie onwards. If they are abandoning the universe we all knew prior to the latest movie that is completely meaningless because even if they do it WILL NOT mean what happened before did not happen.

EDIT:
I just don't get how you are saying it erases it. If parallel universe work then it means the new one could exist in any of them and not the one we knew prior. Parallel universes don't have to 100% different, but can have minor differences or split at a certain point.

Plus TIME TRAVEL SO NOTHING MAKES fuckING SENSE!!

I'm not even sure I understood your last paragraph, but. . .

I only watched Star Trek XI once, so you'll have to bear with my fuzzy memory, but my recollection was that with the tinkering to time that was done in this film, it is as though everything that preceded the film (in the real world, not in chronological terms in the Star Trek universe, which would only be Enterprise) never happened.

This was only one of the reasons I despised that film, but it was a big one.

EDIT: Somebody else weigh in here--I know Kaltic and I weren't the only ones to see this movie. It made a lot of money. Am I off my rocker here or what???

I feel like a total nerd for knowing this, but no it didn't. It doesn't erase it, it just creates a new parallel universe that branches off from that point. It's no different than the mirror universe or the multiple universes Worf went through in Parallels.

Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman have even said that the original universe is continuing on and that their new one does not destroy it.

Having said all that, I would argue that from a creative standpoint they are re-writing the history since that was what the studio wanted and it seems very unlikely there will be any further filmed Trek in the prime universe at this point.

I'm really pretty excited about FTL, I may jump in on day one if they price it right.

Also, anybody who wants a quick "Why should I watch this?" for Doctor Who should track down the episode called Blink. It's a great example of DW making ordinary, everyday stuff... terrifying.

Here is the problem it is Sci Fi. Time travelling to them for all we know could have actually been them moving to a new parallel universe so the old events collided with a completely separate universe and thus didn't impact the old universe (beyond Spock no longer being there).

EDIT: Seriously when you start thinking of time travel and parallel universe and always intertwined it makes more sense, at least for me.

Agreed. This was one of Moffat's best shows as a writer. It's too bad he decided to turn the Weeping Angels into Generic Villain #564 later in the series. . . .

It is true he used them quite a bit, but I honestly wasn't except their evolution to include the whole real image thing. That automatically makes them quite possibly the most terrifying villain ever.

Alright everyone, we've got about 15 more minutes. Hopefully the deal will be some amazing all the OT stuff will stop.

I would like to get Magicka: The Other Side of the Coin and I see there are some item and robe packs that were not included in the Amazon package.

Do I need/should I care about:

Magicka: Peculiar Gadgets Item Pack
Magicka: Heirlooms Item Pack
Magicka: Lonely Island Cruise
Magicka: Holiday Spirit Item Pack
Magicka: Horror Props Item Pack
Magicka: Mega Villain Robes
Magicka: Aspiring Musician Robes
Saw this in a Steam group posting that they reposted via Redit.

A warning to anyone trading for Dead Island, Steam has retroactivalely renamed all versions of it GOTY with the GOTY graphic to go along with it.

There are ways to tell the difference though. The real GOTY should say includes 3 items and list the DLC. See below

It was in a bundle, I just can't remember which one off hand. I bought it, it's fun the controls definitely need tweaking. Up to jump just doesn't work well on a controller, I tried a beta version from the dev that adds better controller support but not sure if that version has been released yet. I can vouch to say that the game is severely addicting (or, at least, was back then). I started in Elementary school, and continued on for years. As was previously mentioned, it's an extremely social game. But as the years went on I found it to get incredibly competitive, it wasn't hard to keep up with, but the poisonous ego-elitist environment that I was typically around got boring. Not to mention that at the time that I quit the economy was run by hackers. They literally couldn't control it.

Oh, F2P drama.

Binary Domain is absolutely great. One of my best PC purchases in a long time, got it for $10. Awesome deal. Looks like I spent 12.5 hours playing through it once on Hard.
What about the new movie changed your mind? like I said never been a fan of Star Trek so curious if maybe I should give this new movie a chance

The French robot hates me because I always shoot him thinking he is an enemy.

One of the things I like the most is that in most 3rd person shooters the enemies are bullet sponges. With robots it at least makes a bit more sense and you see their limbs and parts falling off as you shoot them which makes you feel better about using most of a clip in them.
Agreed. This was one of Moffat's best shows as a writer. It's too bad he decided to turn the Weeping Angels into Generic Villain #564 later in the series. . . .
Yeah, I was really disappointed with how the Weeping Angels have progressed on the show. The Crash of the Byzantium took all the horror and scare out of them, really. was very disappointed with those episodes (except for one, very very awesome scene. Which had nothing to do with the angels, and everything to do with Doctor Who being one of the best written shows around. Well, at times - it can be just as bad as everything else.)

Also recommend is The Girl in the Fire Place and his 2-parter set in WWII. Or really, anything he wrote for Doctor Who.

Damn, now I'm contributing to the off-topic-ness of this thread. Uhh.. uhhh... Aren't video games great? Wait, that's not specific enough. Isn't Steam Awesome?

There we go.

Hmmm... Binary Domain for $10. Heard good things about it, but not willing to drop $10 on it. Will wait for $2.50.
Quick Google search for "Star Trek nerd" uncovers this line: "Star Trek fans: because sex is overrated."

It's cliched but gets the job done.
I feel sorry for whoever has to clean the holodeck.

That was one of the small things I hated about the game, Would be shooting and they would like run through my fire then they yelled at ME. :cold:

Then again it was such a minor hit to trust, plus not sure trust really did anything anyways.
Binary Domain looks good but I'll wait for 5 bucks.
Pretty much my thoughts.

Besides, I've spent almost $300 on steam over the past month. I should be playing the games that I just bought. Not forking over another $10.

is airline tycoon2 any good? hehe!

so i was browsing steam gifts today to enter my daily entries and noticed contributor values went down for those people who giveaway individual games that are included in indie bundles and such.

whats funny is i saw this one guy's profile giving away 30 individual game copies and getting $1 contributor value each. He had to work his butt of sending all the keys to 30 different people and in the end just getting $1 values. It serves him right for gaming the system.

It's hard for me to put into words, but I will try. While I always disliked Star Trek, I always seemed to befriend people or go out with girls who loved it. Thus, it was go see the new star trek movie with them, or not have anything to do that night. So, I actually ended up seeing all of them. This is in addition to countless episodes of all the series while just hanging out.

The recent reboot, which I only saw because my girlfriend wanted to, surprised the heck out of me. I didn't find it cheesy or unbelievable like I did the others. I liked the characters. I found the writing intelligent and without too much of the "mumbo-jumbo-trekker-jargon" speak that always irritated me in the series and other movies.

I loved the fact that I didn't feel like I needed to know about "interstellar treaty 564.7 between the romulans and the klingons that forbade.. blah blah blah." It was a whole new universe, all the previous things that I didn't like about the previous shows/movies haven't happened or won't happen in this timeline.. It was a refreshingly fresh start.

This is of course, entirely my opinion. I recommend checking it out, especially if you have netflix - really nothing to lose. If you do, let me know how you liked it!

The one con I can think about? A bit too much with the lens flares :)

Edit: Oh, and I loved firefly as well.. if that helps you in taking a movie recommendation from a stranger

Anyone with experience in the tropico series know if tropico 4 is really much of an improvement over 3?
Dammit! (because I missed it, thanks for the info though!)
Anytime!
It was in a Gamersgate bundle.
Yeah thanks, I just dug it up it was the IndieFort Bundle No. 2, unfortunately that's one of the one's I don't have any extras of.

My girlfriend likes it. It has an accout creation requirement tho, seperate from steam. Better than the 3? Prolly so, gfx are better at a minimum.
