Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I played with chakrams. Towards the end of the game it wasn't even close to being a challenge

Wasn't fond of KB/mouse controls for KOA:R either.
I used X360 Gamepad for KOA:R.

You can go here and download a mod that changes the difficulty. I never could get it to work with the Steam version but I can with the Origin version.

http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...-Shapes-Amalur&hl=en&gl=us&prmd=imvns&strip=1

Also download the "Widescreen Fixer" (https://www.widescreenfixer.org/) and you can use it to change the field of vision.
Well, it looks like 2k has activated the BS "region lock after release" again.

I bought a copy off of Jake and have been playing it for quite a while. Now I update it today and can no longer play it. EFFING GREAT. They region locked the Civ V gift too.

Way to go 2K, you take the money for the sales and then make them useless. I am so pissed right now.

Well unless the seller told you it was a Russian key and you bought it anyways, I would be mad at them. I feel your pain, but I honestly wish more companies would region lock their games to avoid all this shady third party key selling.

If it was from jake I'd imagine it was a trade through steam and not a key. Trades have been in the past ROW games once it was traded.

I checked my list and it is an (RU) title in my history.

It was from Jake (JakeNome). He's from the Ukraine, and everyone knows that.

EDIT: Ninja'd. Or maybe I just don't refresh my pages.

Ah, well I've never bought from him, but it seems he has good feedback so I would contact him about the situation. I understand the frustration, but it's a risk you take when you buy out of region.
I checked my list and it is an (RU) title in my history.
Normally with games traded, at least in the past once they were traded from one region to the next they became ROW. If it was traded this is an issue Steam would need to addressed by them i would think. They shouldn't allow trades outside of regions if this is going to be an issue.

I didn't know that, and now I'm locked out of my XCOM I legit paid for. You could argue "legit" but it doesn't tell you in the trade window, and I have no idea where he's from, his Steam profile says the US.

I really enjoyed the game, and even if I tried to buy a NA copy now, Steam won't let me. So 2K took the sale, someone got my money and now I don't have anything, and I'm barred from a copy I can play because the game is already in my library.

Way to go all around.
I didn't know that
Well, when someone is selling a vast amount of new releases for cheaper than what they sell for in your region, it should be common sense that they're buying the games for cheaper within a different region.

I'm not trying to be rude, because I understand how ridiculous the situation is, but I think it's a little obvious that those kind of prices aren't coming from someone who just thought it would be nice to buy 5 copies of a game for $60 and sell them for $48.

It was the FIRST time I've ever bought anything like that and not just directly from Steam. I admit I was a little curious and felt there was a catch of some sort, specifically that it may be an RU key. Never bought one but I've heard of the whole thing.

After it was traded and in my Library, it displayed RU, but not in the trade window anywhere, and I was assured by Jake it was region free, which it was. So I wasn't really concerned.

The practice of selling something as region free and then region locking it within a week just seems scummy to me, and I've worked for EA for the past 2 years, I've seen scummy practices.

Trying really hard to feel bad for people. It's the risk you deal with when you buy from out of your region to circumvent prices. There's a reason the CD key reseller site deals that get posted here are frequently deleted. Granted, if you didn't know, I feel a bit bad for you, but I'd say over half the people getting them know what they're doing.

But anyways, 2k backed off on Borderlands so I wouldn't be surprised to see if they backed off on this eventually.

I've seen people on the 2K forums mentioning some kind of Borderlands fiasco. In trying to find out what can/will be done (if anything), I've been curious. What exactly happened? All I saw was that the Russian version was region locked to the area or something, and that they were investigating refunds due to some kind of mishap in the explanation of the region locking.

I'm hoping that selling a region free product and then locking it later is some kind of grounds for an arguement on some sort.

Care to explain what happened with Borderlands though?

Borderlands was region locked close to release date, RU only could play with RU, and even some of the surronding countries were stuck with it (some of which don't have a huge russian speaking populace). This had something to do with the RU publisher. It was removed shortly after the bruhaha came to light and sites like RPS were reporting on it, and now if you buy a RU copy you get the regular version of the game as well.

Keep in mind, XCOM isn't even out in Europe/Russia yet, so while it seems like they're doing it post release to you, it isn't so much for them. There's always a chance this is, again, something to do with the RU publishing rights and that 2k will work to correct it.

The whole notion of region locked just doesn't make sense anymore on the Internet.
Indie Gala store games will not be in THEIR bundles, but could always show up in other bundles, most likely Groupees.

Also, they have Gala points but they are worthless. For example, if they discount a game in the store, they then reduce or eliminate the Gala Point discount on that game. So the overall effect makes them useless.

Also, Tony from Amazon just posted this:

Our Deal of the Week next week is stupid awesome.

$9.99 for a bundle with:

Deus Ex Human Revolution Augmented Edition + DLC
Supreme Commander 2
Hitman Blood Money
The Last Remnant
Just Cause
Just Cause 2
Quantum Conundrum

I believe these are all Steam?

Crazy stoopid deal!
That deal is pretty amazing. I own all of those games already, and the price of it is still tempting.

In fairness to those affected, the game wasn't region locked until the recent update. I would agree if the RU tag was simply ignored and no one bothered to check for a lock, but considering the game wasn't locked until AFTER many people had already activated and played it, is definitely a bit unfair. I have a feeling 2K will probably fix the problem for the ones that were already traded/gifted/activated.

Random, but GameStop is having a pretty damn good trade-in event right now. Most notably Black Ops is trading in for $25.50, Skyrim for $30, and Borderlands for $15. If you've got a PUR Pro card I think there's another 10% added onto that... so that's a pretty good deal. It ends on the 14th of this month I think.

Full list of promoted trade-in values

I mention this because last I checked, GameStop still has Steam gift cards. Good way to prepare for the Steam Winter Sale...

So as posted in the 2k forums, the Russian copies work now?

I restarted Steam and XCOM runs fine now.

I checked and I still have the (RU) version. Not quite sure what happened on their end but I am sure glad I can play now!

I checked my Licenses + Subscriptions and I have an Item, "Steam" just added and the acquisition method is 'Complimentary'

I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I should check and see what I have too. My thought was that the game is now available in Europe.

Ehh, I noticed that too a few days ago and I don't even have XCOM. That's not it.

Glad they fixed it though.

Im not gonna read anything because Im sure there mightve been ample hate thrown my way.
I just wanna apologize to the 41 CAGs who had to go through this scare, and the 40+ buyers from elsewhere.
I thought I was gonna have a heart attack hours ago when FakeKisser messaged me about the issue. My email was flooded when I got home.
THANK GOD its fixed.
That was enough stress to last a whole year. I think Im gonna take a long ass break from selling now and repent for my sins.
XD

...anyway, enjoy being able to kill cyberdisks and mutons again

I just wanna apologize to the 41 CAGs who had to go through this scare, and the 40+ buyers from elsewhere.
I thought I was gonna have a heart attack hours ago when FakeKisser messaged me about the issue. My email was flooded when I got home.
THANK GOD its fixed.
That was enough stress to last a whole year. I think Im gonna take a long ass break from selling now and repent for my sins.
XD

Nahhhh, no hate just frustration on the topic itself really and at 2K.

Either way we are all glad that it is situated!

I was going to just message you when I saw you on Steam or CAG next, I didn't want to publically call attention to the issue in your thread, I knew it wasn't your fault and I didn't want anyone thinking otherwise. I was going to try to get with you about some sort of remedy if nothing happened about a potential fix, but I was going to wait and see.

You hadn't been on though, or had, but were then offline. I noticed you come online shortly after the whole thing seemed to blow over, I figured you thought it was safe to then. :p

For the record, while I was upset, it was never with you. It was region free when I got it from you and you had nothing to do with what happened. Crappy set of circumstances really.

Well put! Agreed.

Now off to go make sure South America does not back out of my XCOM! haha

I am so pissed right now.

http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?154876-X-Com-is-region-locked-BL2-esque-saga-continues
That is weird, I bought my copy from Jake as well and I can play it still. I launched it just now to make sure.

EDIT:

As I finish reading the rest of the thread I see it was fixed lol

Seems like Indie Game Stand is doing pretty good lately. The $1 level is including a Steam key lately, and there's a beat the average thing going on the latest one (for Really Big Sky) where you get another two games. I don't think they're Steam games, but the average is only $1.52 right now so...

Anyways, I grabbed it. It's worth a look; the game looks pretty cool.

Really digging this indie gamestand. I bought the last 3 games and backing some really good charity is a plus too.
None of my VO's seem to be working now though. Small complaint I guess.
Might be an issue with your speaker setup.

VOs in XCOM don't work over my speakers but work fine with headphones.

My speakers are old and have channels blown out, though, which probably explains it on my end.

Try using headphones, though, just to see if it works.
I still think MoH was at its best on the SP back w/ MOH:AA.
The last MOH (2010) was short and sweet - though, nothing amazing & spectacular.

Spec Ops: The Line - now there's a shooter w/ an excellent SP campaign (which was like 7-8 hours short) and a great story. Just finished that last night.
I remember playing Frontline (that's what I played on GC lol), Rising Sun too. I haven't played the last MoH, looks like a cross of BF3 basically, I still want to check it out tho.
& yeah Spec Ops is Spectacular. *zing* trying all the different scenarios was pretty fun.

IndieGameStand is dope, I like what they're doin'. It just sucks you have to have more than one account to buy more copies of the deal. Been through their CS (which is pretty casual to deal with)

& Hopefully 2K doesn't do this whole region thing again...

Also just noticed the thread tags. Lmfao at dramatic cags & wallet destroyer

The new deal is alright if you haven't been keeping up with indie bundles, but it's a rehash otherwise. It's been in an Indie Royale and an Indie Gala (which could've been had for $2 and was a better deal). I haven't bought a single game yet from IGS, the only new/non-rehashed deal they've had was Gnomoria.

Watch out everyone!

A lot of us went through the GOG deal and some of us trade people on CAG to recieve X-Com Enemy Unknown on Steam. Been playing it since launch, suddenly I'm locked out of my game due to a newly created region requirement.

I hope others aren't affected but I feel like I just wasted money on this.

Too bad to as it turns me off from doing trades and whatnot on here. I lose money on the deal? Not cool.

Steam support ticket submitted, I'll let ya'll know what I hear back.

I hope no one else is inconvenienced with this.

EDIT!!!!! Apparently, something changed at 10am EST. File lock got changed and I can play my game again!

So after 677 hours of play, I finally decide to uninstall Football Manager 2012 (heck, 2013 is out in a couple of weeks)

So what do I play next?

Well, I went to TRU and BB and got a whole bunch of the $10 games... Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, MW3, Skyrim...

So what do I decide to play?

PHANTASMAGORIA!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??!?!!

Wow, congrats on finding all those at TRU.

Um, nothing?

It's getting close to Halloween, after all. Phantasmagoria was good in its day, but I would have personally chosen something more horrifying, like Amnesia, Cryostasis, or Presidential Simulator 2012 featuring Mitt Romney...

So why do I own DOTA 2? Someone wanted a couple of items for it for trade a while back, and I saw my account showed as owning it. I know it will be free-to-play, but people can buy early access. I didn't buy it. I don't recall being gifted it. I do, however, have it.

My transaction history shows nothing, either.

Or Resident Evil 1. Ever try playing that on a PC with a keyboard? Horrifying. Also, I think there might also be monsters, but good luck getting your character that far into the game.

I had read that Steam never changes region restrictions on a particular product id, if they add a region lock they will issue it as a new product and take the old one off the store, which will remain region free for previous purchasers. I guess that's not true, as seen with this xcom fiasco? I read it in this russian key guide on Reddit.

Greenlight Bundle 2 is live

For $1 you get:

Pixel Blocked!
Omegalodon
Starlaxis Light Hunter

For $5 you get the above along with:

Call of Cthuhlu: The Wasted Land
Perpetuum (30 day trial lol)
Dawn of Fantasy
Oniken (this was also in Indie Royale)
General Conflict
and Awesomenauts Mean and Green DLC bundle which unlocks next week

I don't know if anyone cares, but today I sent off PMs to developers that had their games on Desura for the first Greenlight bundle. I asked for Desura keys, and got one for Syder Arcade within the first 5 mins after sending a PM. Might be worth a shot if you're at all interested in getting Desura keys. The greenlight bundle site tends to have painfully slow download speeds.
