Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Yeah I don't know. I got Omegalodon, Majesty 2 & East India Company for $1. I figured it would have been at least the top four.

If you click the (i) on the site you get this

You have to pay at least $1 to unlock Majesty 2 and East India Company and to get the Desura key for Omegalodon!

Purchases less than $1 will receive DRM free version of Omegalodon WIN/MAC and Praetorians game.

Also, to prevent abuses, we had to put few simple rules:
1) Only purchases worth at least $1 will obtain GalaPoints
2) It Will not be possible to buy gifts worth less than $1
3) Only BTA people will be qualified 'early buyer' for the Happy Hour ( if an HappyHour will be )

I find it odd that you either have to pay under $1 or BTA to get Praetorians.

It is poorly designed:

Everything else is BTA.

That is really bizarre. I just assumed that all $1 or less purchases would get Omegalodon and Praetorians.
A lot of things in that game can be really frustrating if you spec the wrong way, but if you get the pistol chain-shot move leveled up to full, then pour the rest into stealth/CQC, the game is totally a breeze.
Agreed. Max stealth makes you literally invisible for a brief period and the max pistol upgrades allow for easy one-shot kills, which is great if a bit exploit-y against some of the tougher bosses.

The most frustration I found with AP was with the controls for the sticky cover system, which only seemed to work when they wanted to.

Overall, annoyances and bugs aside, it was a really enjoyable ARPG. I'm hoping that Obsidian has all the time it needs to make Project Eternity kick-ass and bug-free on release, as KOTOR 2 and AP are the results when they're in a rush.

Oh that sucks. You have to buy a BTA bundle first to be qualified for 4x1 happy hour now.
I specialized in Stealth/CQC my first time around, but that did not help AT ALL with the Russian boss. I fought and died against him for at least 3 hours, trying in vain to keep him and his henchmen away from me. Eventually, I figured out an 'exploit' - just keep running around the center pillar when he has his knife out and immediately chain-shot him when he gets out of that mode so he takes the knife out again.

Other than this boss and the random frameskips I was experiencing, I loved the story and (admittedly glitchy) gameplay. There is pretty much no other game out there like this one, and it's a shame that Obsidian couldn't get past the bad reviews to continue the series.

I don't usually like the underdog "internets popular" games but I did enjoy Alpha Protocol. It's Syphon Filter as an RPG. Most of the mechanics are half-baked and the level design is terrible and the plot is pretty goofy but there's fun to be had. I actually thought the boss fights were really good for an RPG hybrid and probably better than most straight up action/sneaker hybrids, on par with DX:HR I think. Definitely cooler fights than anything Syphon Filter delivered.

Syphon Filter is really the closest approximation to AP. No other stealth action game is as close a match gameplay-wise as AP
That is really bizarre. I just assumed that all $1 or less purchases would get Omegalodon and Praetorians.
That sounds like a glitch almost. I wonder if they don't realize thisis happening. Maybe you should email them about it.

Edit:

Also, I guess you could pay .50 cents and then up it to $1 to unlock everything.
So am I understanding that Dwarfs with everything already included is $10, but if you buy the exact same DLC to go with the Free to Play Version separately, it's $13?!?

I thought the original had actually been priced much cheaper prior to this weird F2P thing.

Just an aside, I played Code of Princess and XCOM alongside Dishonored.

Compared to the first two, Dishonored's voice acting is terrible.

For those of you with the Chase rewards credit cards who might not otherwise get a lot of mileage out of the Best Buy and Kojhls rewards this quarter, BB's Steam gift cards should work for that, if you wanted to monetize your steam buys to the tune of bonus 4% back.

The delivery was all off in a way that made me think the director was at fault. Some of the acting was flat out bad, but there were also some talented actors who obviously had no idea what they were saying, why they were saying it, or who they were saying it to.

Haha, I didn't think I'd see a Code of Princess reference in the Steam thread. As silly as the story (and wardrobe) in CoP is, the voice acting was great all around. I'm sad to hear Dishonored may have sub-par voice acting, as I've been spoiled with so many games lately with great voicework... All the games I've played lately (LA Noire, Walking Dead, Portal 2, Red Dead Redemption, Darksiders 2, Sleeping Dogs, Max Payne 3) have had superb voice work. I guess I'm just starting to take it for granted now.

Rockstar games definitely do an amazing job. Their writing is excellent and they don't treat cutscenes and dialogue as an afterthought.

They really put to shame games where the voice actor seems like they're just reading off some lines and the character will just stand still or make a few stiff body movements as they stare at you or at the person they're talking. I'm talking to you, Dishonored.

Payday the Heist's soundtrack is out. Every track sounds different in subtle ways from their appearance in the game and, well, most of them, I prefer the game cuts better. Still, I like the differences and having the Diamond Heist party track is kinda cool.
Rockstar games definitely do an amazing job. Their writing is excellent and they don't treat cutscenes and dialogue as an afterthought.
I'll disagree with you on that, at least the first part. I think Rockstar thinks their writing is a LOT better than it actually is. Max Payne 3's story was dreadfully dull and RDR and GTA4's good bits were dragged down by Rockstar's faux world-weary cynicism and their need to have their constantly gibbering caricatures yammer on for far too long about nothing worth hearing. They can spin some clever dialogue here and there, but I've never seen a company go so completely all in on writing that isn't worth the effort since... well, Borderlands 2, really.

Absolutely. Sokolov was good but, hell, show someone a concept art picture of Sokolov, say "Unscrupulous scientist. Aristocratic." And show him the the dialogue and you'll get a great read no matter what. The director completely dropped the ball for every other character. A pagan trickster demon in a suit who just reads every line like a dry narrator? Who the HELL let that make print? You weren't subverting cliches, you were leaving the most contrived part of the game completely charmless.

Every other principal character was just woefully mis-written or mis-directed. Pendleton should have showed SOME emotion when talking to you. After the party letter sidequest and the cathouse main quest, you've done enough with him that he should have some sort of opinion about you that he is either hiding or letting slip briefly. And what the hell was the good guy scientist supposed to be? Eccentric and difficult to deal with was what the Admiral suggested but when you get up there he just sounds like someone permanently high or always just having woken up without coffee.

awww, I looked at the store page because I was interested in it, but it says I already own it. I never bought it though. Time to check my inventory.

I don't know if anyone's beaten me to posting it but someone made a site that displays the banner graphic of everything currently available on Steamgifts without duplicates on a single page.

You can just glance it over, pick the games you want to try for and click on the image to bring up the give-aways. Displays public and contributor contests but no private or group. Refreshes every 30 minutes.

My purchase history shows it was 2.49 during the holiday sale last December.

Perhaps my fellow CAG's can help me out. I'm not sure if I should go ahead and grab The Bard's Tale. I've been mildly interested in the game since the PS2 days, and I've simply passed on it every single time. Now, the game is $2.50 and even includes the originals. However, I still can't seem to get myself to take the plunge, and the deal has less than two days to go.

So, CAG's - Is The Bard's Tale worth $2.50?

I looked it up and it seems like a pretty prominent issue, but sometimes after I shut down, all the non-Steam games that I've added to my library get removed. Does anyone have this problem or have a solution for this?

I've been mildly interested in the game since the PS2 days, and I've simply passed on it every single time. Now, the game is $2.50 and even includes the originals. However, I still can't seem to get myself to take the plunge, and the deal has less than two days to go.

So, CAG's - Is The Bard's Tale worth $2.50?
do eeeeeeeeeeeet

I don't know if anyone has some advice but I'm about the shelve Sleeping Dogs as a big disappointment. Combat is just ridiculous. Countering/blocking is sluggish and leaves me open if I mistime it but "mistiming" it is practically random considering how the game responds to hitting the button. I'm stuck in a fight against five guys which I barely make it through only to fight five more immediately after and haven't come close to winning.

I'm not randomly mashing mouse buttons; I'm trying to time the blocks and grapple and all that stuff. But the game has gone from "This is cool" to "Wow, this is the exact opposite of fun" within a very short period of time. I mean, if this is how the first hour is, I don't think the fights are going to get easier further on.

Maybe I just suck and shouldn't play the game or something but I'm hoping that's not the answer.

Considering that now you also get the original games when you buy The Bards Tale, I highly recommend it :)

I'm sorry, but I just noticed the tagline under your username. If that's true, I'm sorry for your loss - I enjoyed your story of how your cat became so fond of the Miniature Display Tent, and I understand how difficult it is to lose a family pet.

Oh thanks man, it was a few months ago I had to have him put down. As far as the bards tale goes I've been having fun with it when I've been stayin at my GF's place...its def worth the 2.50 IMO...and the added originals..while I havent played them def add to the value.

I'm not sure if it's the same issue, but sirfragalot mentioned something about the timing being off for combat when he first played. Maybe ask him if he knows anything?

I haven't played the game, so can't help personally.

Quick question on steamgifts, sorry if this is the wrong spot for it. I was trying to enter a contest to win "Payday The Hiest" and every entry I look at it says "exists in your account". What does that mean? I tried to view my winnings thinking maybe I've won it but missed the notice and nothing is there? I looked at a giveaway for Borderlands 2 and was able to enter that one just fine.
