Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Green Man Gaming has another 25% of Digital games voucher on their main page (GMG25-UAAHK-6AI9S) with a few steamworks titles on sale (up to 75%) such as Red Faction, Supreme Commander, Warhammer 40K. Nothing really special, though. Personally, I was going to use it to get Dishonored for $45.

http://www.greenmangaming.com/hot-deals/

I wonder if it's possible to make multiple orders with this voucher or is it 1 use only per account?

Thanks! I love that Steam is apparently offering grammar lessons now, but I prefer games so this Shift code is more to my liking. Especially since it is more than just a golden key.

Ok, I've been meaning to ask this for awhile now. I've never actually had to purchase any of the few games I have from GMG using real funds but I remember reading about people having trouble with their banks locking the account until they verified the transaction. Anyone know if this will this happen if I use PayPal to check out?

I've always used Paypal, never had a problem. Did you mean to post this in the GMG thread?

I haven't had any issues with Paypal. Just make sure your GMG email address is the same as your PayPal address otherwise there may be problems.

No, I probably should have though, originally it was a reply to g6grim's post but then I just cut the quote as it was aimed at anyone who'd answer. Thanks btw.

Probably won't hurt to post in both, but yeah, paypal issues tend to me rare IMO. Most people's issues are with CC and banks, but I just find paypal superconvenient and never had a problem anywhere - GMG, GG, GGG, etc.

Ok, that's a bit more reassuring. I knew PayPal is linked to either CC, banks, or both and wasn't sure if the issues would still apply with PayPal.

Now if I can just find something to justify spending more on.

Just being on sale is enough justification. Build that library!

I've never had any problems going through Paypal either until just now. Perhaps, the point here is to make sure that you have enough funds already transferred to your Paypal account before making a purchase. I didn't have enough for Dishonored and I'm guessing, since Paypal had to go through my bank, I got the following message from GMG:

Your Payment Provider has not authorised your purchase. This may be because some banks (incorrectly) believe that Green Man Gaming is a gambling website. Please contact your bank to discuss your order. We are working with these banks to resolve this issue.

No, my issues with GMG are the same as any other international transaction--I always have to get my credit union's blessing to spend money. If you have a credit card linked to your Paypal, you shouldn't have any issues.

Weird.

I've never had this problem and I rarely actually keep funds in my paypal account. Generally I just use it as an extra layer between the site and my bank account.

I know, I know. It's a little over 220 counting the ones I had purchased as gifts but will most likely be redeeming myself when I get to them ... even a little more from bundles I haven't redeemed yet.

Yeah, I've never had this problem. I've used a mix of paypal funds and direct bank transfers and sometimes both in the same transaction. Never used a CC through paypal on GMG though.

I hear you. I'll have to make a call to them, though, since I absolutely need to buy Dishonored today as a gift. The problem is that it takes too long (6-8 days) to make a transfer. I've tried my credit union and 2 different credit cards (as suggested) through Paypal just now and neither authorized a transaction. I guess it works for others, so you never know. Doesn't hurt to just try.

When I was getting a feel for the game in the tutorial I thought, "this could be cool take on multiplayer if it plays out the this way." Then I joined a game and realized it was nothing like what I thought. All the strategy portions are ignored in favor of running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I can get that in just about any deathmatch game. I was hoping for a strategic, almost stealth-like gameplay. I was disappointed to say the least.

In the words of the immortal Dungeon Keeper 2 narrator...

"It is payday..."

Decided to treat myself to Dead Rising 2, which I never got around to completing on the Xbox but is a great game, and Hotline Miami, because it looks like it'll butter my crumpet.

...

I'm not a murderer. Honest.

Ahhhhh, payday was great 15 years ago when I had no responsibilities and bought music, games, and Taco Bell with impunity. Now I have to save my pennies to get the stuff I want while spending all my money on "neccessities."

Edit: Not to say you have no responsibilities. I was merely reminiscing the paydays of my youth.

I felt the same way with the Assassin's Creed multiplayer. It doesn't matter the potential that the MP offers if the other players play everything as if it was COD

On a separate topic, the Gala Store is running a Painkiller bundle:
http://store.indiegala.com/index.php/the-painkiller-bundle.html

Supposedly PWYW, but it has a minimum of 1.99 for Painkiller Redemption and Painkiller Overdose. Beat 4.99 and get Painkiller Black as well (which would be the same price as on the Steam Halloween sale for all three)

There's also a Sacred Gold bundle
http://store.indiegala.com/index.php/the-sacred-ghosts-bundle.html

PWYW min .99 for Sacred Gold. Beat 3.99 get Ghost Master and Dark Fall: Lost Souls

Never had these luxuries. I buy incredibly cheap things not out of frugality but out of necessity. ;) Hence why I've been a member here since I was 17. But relationships do cost a lot of money, which I guess is why I couldn't keep mine. Not enough to spare to see each other. Although to contradict myself, I am going to buy the Nancy Drew games on sale now and hope the rest go on sale in the winter.

Darkness II is $5 on Amazon, and it activates on Steam. It was a fun game despite its length, but the story and voice acting are on par with Hollywood movies. And yes, this is probably better played with a controller, or through a series of Vimeo URLs automatically written into a batch file that executes during startup. ;)

High-res textures and high-res' sound.
Said to be one of the best looking PC games around technically PERIOD.

Which one, though? Kate Moss or Kate Middleton? Decisions, decisions...

I'll say one thing about Hotline Miami, the soundtrack is awesome. Really, really awesome. Not decided about the game itself yet, I think I like it but need to sleep on it.

The Duchess all the way. Moss is rancid.

I've hit the jackpot. Thanks Severose.

Now I just want that game even more! I really hope we see it 66% off during the winter sale. And you can never count out the dark horse that is Amazon during Steam sales. Someone needs to get this done.

I'm tempted to pick up Closure for $4.99, since I found the original Flash game amusing. Plus, I was thrilled to find out that the game had found its way to Steam after being a PSN exclusive.

So, do any CAG's have an opinion on the Steam version?

Just to confirm, there is no real point in getting Dead Rising 2 if I already have off the record from a gameplay stand point yes?

thats what i understand anyway....which is why im not biting

Is there a group yet for CAGs trying to ween themselves from the Deals forum? I have well over 200+ games in my backlog across multiple systems. I have to stop...but when I see good games for 75% off or more...I can't help myself. I try to rationalize by telling myself, "When the kids get older you'll have more time to yourself and you'll tackle that backlog." Meanwhile the backlog grows....

No no no, it's "When civilization gets wiped out, I'll finish off my backlog... and somehow the power is still on." And then cue the Twilight Zone glasses breaking or somesuch.

I'm gonna go ahead and be a total killjoyass here, but if you need help cutting down on adding to your backlog, try guilt. Think about how many hours you put into gaming versus actually productive activities. Like, what if the hundreds or thousands of hours Steam tells you you've played, were like, hours volunteered for the Red Cross.

After I sober up from all this sugar, I'm gonna regret posting this.
Conversely, if I just bought Dead Rising 2, would there be any point in buying Off The Record next time it goes on sale?
No point in owning both unless you REALLY like Dead Rising. My friend and I bought both and playing OTR several months after DR2 it felt the exact same, to the point that we got bored about halfway through. While OTR has slightly more content, either one is an adequate substitute for the other.
Finally got back power. Didn't have it since 10:30 PM Monday night. Seems like I didn't miss much deals/bundles wise which is good.
So you missed Skyrim for 9.99 on Amazon yesterday?

Oh and the rest of you need to lay off the Kool-Aid.
