Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

So for anyone that has the game here on steam...can you confirm that you can buy the DLC in-game through ea? And if so, does anyone know the prices? Thanks!
I was looking into this recently, you have to purchase Bioware points from EA or Bioware and then you purchase the DLC with the Bioware points. From what I was reading, there are all kinds of situations where people didn't get the points they paid for and never got refunds, it sounded horrible. I think there is one Mass Effect 1 DLC you can buy on Origin for real money but last I looked the only way to get ME2 DLC is with Bioware points. I think the ME2 DLCs were the equivalent of around $7-10 each for the mission based ones. Another thing that sucks about this system is you can never get them on sale cause the points don't go on sale.

I dislike DLC in general, especially in comparison to the old style expansion packs, but this kind of crap really turns me off to certain devs/publishers. I don't want to make special accounts, I dont give a shit about your "social networking" crap, I don't want to have to deal with multiple accounts at multiple stores for the same game. And worst of all, I don't want to have my gaming experience constantly interrupted by having DLC shilled at me on the launch screen or even worse within the game (stupid DA).

Hear, hear.

I was loath to see L.A. Noire require Rockstar's Social Club, but it was essentially innocuous throughout my 55 hours to 100% it.

Bioware was my favorite developer for a long time—I still have my big box copy of Shattered Steel, ffs—and when they fell into EA's clutches I was disappointed (and it was a deja vu of Origin). The DLC scheme and the above proprietary bs built into the play experience kept me from supporting them at launch and has put me off playing the actual games even longer.

For what it's worth, piracy of the ME2 DLC is only slightly less of a pain in the behind.

Not that I'm advocating anything of the sort, just letting you know that it is a scoche more difficult than pirating any old game and when it comes to EA's asinine DLC schemes (THINK of how much they could have made just throwing that damn Mirror's Edge DLC on Steam and swallowing their pride. Every single CAG here who bought ME on Steam for $5 would probably throw $2.50 for the DLC.), the p-word just rolls off the tongue as a natural antecedent.

Anyone able to get the Tropico 4 price advertised in the first post of this thread? I only see $10.19 on the steam page.

i think that might be last weekend's deal.

Psychonauts is a classic, and got some minor tweaks (chvs, difficulty) on Steam compared to the original release.

Anyone know how the PC version of Psychonauts compares to running the PS2 version through emulation at high resolution with all the assorted filters?

Edit: Hey question answered before I finished posting the question, in what way did they tweak the difficulty?

I'd just grab Warband -- it's a remake of vanilla and has all the same content (just less total conversion mods). Fire & Sword was a bit of a flop as firearms just don't really feel like M&B. Napoleonic Wars is a multi-player only expansion. Of course, it's only another $4ish for that stuff so it's up to you.

As an aside $10 for all four Double Fine games is a crazy deal. If I didn't already own Psychonauts and Costume Quest I'd be all over it.

Agreed with Mooby that Warband is really the one to get. You can buy the whole franchise if you want but you'll just wind up playing Warband anyway.

A couple of days ago, there were several posters here who seemed to be pretty excited to see Silverfall: Complete on sale. Aside from the fact that it apparently doesn't go on sale all that often, why were people so excited about it? I confess, I had never heard of the game a few days ago. That Metacritic score doesn't scream "excellence in gaming" though.

Can't say, I guess I'm just a sucker for quaint, unknown ARPGs. For what it's worth we got Tony to price match them on an individual basis on Amazon (there's a Steam code version) -- Amazon doesn't have the bundle. I just opted to pay the $1.25 more since I had Amazon credit and I get two $5 promo codes, too.

To get the extras...
Activate the game;
You have to go to Tools (on your Steam program's page);
and then select to download and install the Serious Sam 3 Extras.

Hmm, not sure that you've sold me on buying it, but it sounds like if I do buy, buying from Amazon is the better way to go. I too have a little bit of credit that I could use.

That's b/c the Silverfall (original) game had a lot of user UI issues, camera issues, and technical performances issues out-the-box, when the game was originally reviewed most places. It got dinged a lot of places hard b/c of that.

Silverfall did give the player often choices in most quests - even in a loot-driven heavy ARPG. Often, these choices - they'd also effect your Technology vs. Nature meter - and that Meter would decide also what other skills you could learn (and not learn). Also, at its time - it was cel-shaded and looked really good, but most systems ran in poorly.

Silverfall: Earth Awakening (stand-alone expansion) never officially hit the USA at Retail, as well. So, Earth Awakening was not reviewed much in the States, as well. Finding it was NOT easy - as often you had to look to Import places like Gogamer back then, to find it. Atari had the USA rights for distributing everything Silverfall at Retail - and they didn't opt for the expansion here.

IMHO, Silverfall was good even w/ its major issues, but Earth Awakening (which fixed basically most of the complaints I had w/ the game) FINALLY made the game great & live up to its potential.

Silverfall + Earth Awakening eventually wound-up in the digital space - and well, it wasn't put on sale often there. I think that's why people are looking for it b/c the expansion was once VERY hard-to-find.

Also, Monte Cristo Game Studios closed its doors in 2010.

I went the same route.

I wish Cities XL 2012 would drop down to 5 dollars at some point. Every time it goes to ten I stare at it for a while and then don't get it...

That is a great deal for the Double Fine bundle. Hopefully Amazon will price match it as I have CC and Psychonauts already.
so is there need to buy silverfall and silverfall earth awakening or would I be good with just earth awakening?
The way I read it (may have been The End who explained) is that while you can play Earth Awakening by itself it starts you off at a higher level and new area so, in effect, you miss out on content. Thus, it makes sense to buy both.

Yeah same here. You'd think they'd have reached a saturation point with market penetration at that price point. I'm intrigued, but I'm $5 intrigued.

Woah, just checked out some Mount & Blade Napoleonic Wars gameplay. I can play as the Blackwatch piper? So bought.

Yeah, exactly. Five dollars is all I'm willing to give them to see if they fixed all the problems with the first version.

Fool me once, after all..

Yeah you've sold me on it too. Lately I've been playing through my Steam list and I'm finding I really enjoy delving into these sorts of under-appreciated games.

I'll get it on Steam though...cheaper, no tax, I can use Paypal, and those $5 Amazon credits don't impress me much.

A little late to the Mass Effect DLC bitchfest, but something else to toss on that fire.

It really surprised me that when they came out with the just recently release Mass Effect Trilogy that they didn't include the DLC. I mean really EA? You wonder why everyone hates you.

When I'm playing the demo I feel like the camera is stuttering all the time and I just can't look at the screen for too long. Could this be one of the issues that you are talking about? Am I just imagining things?

At this point I've given up on the idea of owing Mass Effect series on PC. At least on consoles they sometimes discount this DLC.

Is it just me or is the autumn sale a fail? Hardly bought anything the last couple of days. Nothing interesting and the % off is not as enticing as I hope it should be.

This sale always feels more like a precursor to the end of the year sale to me. It never feels as good as that one.

Finally picked up Vegas: Make It Big :bouncy: It's kind of hard to get excited though if you've followed this thread and picked up all the great deals everywhere over the last year. Was hoping Skyrim would go lower though. Maybe next sale.

Thanks for the input. I'm glad to hear that the bad review scores were largely due to glitches that have since been fixed. Your general description of the game does sound somewhat intriguing. Worth a $5 gamble anyway. So I think I will pick it up after all.

Ha, I just picked up Vegas MiB too. I actually won it during the holiday sale last year but I had to throw it in as a sweetener in a trade for Ghostbusters back in July. I don't regret the trade, because Ghostbusters is no longer in the store. But I kinda wanted to get Vegas MiB back in my inventory.

Oh and you missed it last night. Big sale on Skyrim. I picked it up for $10. :p

I only bought $5 worth of stuff from Steam, but GamersGate and Amazon got a few bucks out of me.
