Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Gonna wait on Mark of the Ninja. While it looks awesome, I don't really get the pricing. 15$ seems a bit steep for the 6-7 hours. Plus the 50% is only sitting at 7.50$. I just don't think I want to pay so much for an XBLA level title. With 100 hours AAA's going for 25$ ( Mega MEGA games like Dishonored, Borderlands, and XCOM), 7.50$ for a shorter XBLA seems very pricey. I'm gonna wait till Winter and maybe even longer.
Look at it this way, a $60 Game for 20-25 hours of QUALITY Content is a good value IMO. The Price of Mark of The Ninja(1/4 of a $60 game) falls in line.

Also, sometimes it's quality of quantity, I think Mark of The Ninja is 6 Hours of quality gaming. A game like Borderlands I think is very repetitive and has a lot of padded on game time.

Just one mans opinion.

So Deus Ex HR (vanilla edition) has dropped to $3.75 on Impulse. Amazing. Only a little over a year old and it was a top seller.

I'm on the same boat as you. The game intrigues me because I love stealth games but whats keeping me at arms length is that its an indie sidescroller (with an art style I think is meh). There are too many of those and even fewer ones that I felt were substantial and fun for more than an hour. Plus indie sidescrollers have the habit of getting cheap quickly or being part of bundles. Another knock on it for me is that its made by the people who made Shank and I hated that game.

I've heard a lot of good things about MotN but its not quite at the price point where I'd take a chance on it.

Also thanks for the opinions on EYE. I was on the fence about it but you guys convinced me.
I noticed shop.ubi.com is running flash sales. For the next 7 hours AC:R Gold is $8, the best price I've seen.
FYI I don't think they allow you to redownload indefinitely, when you try to buy something they add an extra fee if you want ability to download it again for the next 2 years... unless I'm thinking of another publisher's store? I would avoid that store personally but it is a great price.

Uplay revamped a few months back and dropped that bad/weird shit. It acts like Origin or Steam now.

That's cool. I know that they have some frustrating aspects like the Uplay client doesn't have preload capability, but that wouldn't be an issue with already released games. I had some real problems with Uplay not patching always-on DRM out of Steam games but that also doesn't apply to buying games directly from them. I don't mind the client otherwise.

Really, which? The primary example of bad ubi DRM is Anno 2070. Always-Online was patched out of AC2/B/R quite a while back (never bought a title while it had the always online).

I get that some people put a lot of stock in cost/hour, for some reason, but this seems incredibly unfair to one of the best reviewed downloadable games of the year. Comparing its discount to Black Friday deals....ok.

Dishonored is four hours long.

JOKE! I'm JOKING! That's ENTIRELY DIFFERENT TO TROLLING! :whistle2:#
That's cool how the Steam version of Alice: Madness Returns also shows up on Origin without doing anything
Or creepy/invasive.
So today's the last day of new deals. Anybody buying much after or holding out for the winter sale?
Just some Lucas Arts stuff....before Disney possibly yanks it from the store.

I gotta say, the $8 I spent on Mount & Blade was so worth it. Installed Napoleonic Battles and got to fight in the centre in a 65 vs. 65 line battle.

Lots of talk about Zeno Clash and E.Y.E. ... neither of those games clicked with me. Zeno Clash was just... weird and while the melee was reasonably well done I can't say that I really cared much about continuing after the first 46 minutes I played.

E.Y.E just seemed kinda dull. I honestly don't remember as much about it as I only played it for 52 minutes last year during the Winter Sale. It just didn't stand out in any way that made me want more.

I'm sure they both have fans (Zeno especially seems to always get hearty recommendations) but I'm not one. Maybe I do need to give them more time, but my backlog is large enough that if a game doesn't grab me right away I'm probably not going to stick with it. Oh yes, I fully intend to return later... but we all know how that goes.
So today's the last day of new deals. Anybody buying much after or holding out for the winter sale?
Still debating over Mark of the Ninja and the Silverfall bundle. I have so much other stuff to play though that I could easily wait for 75% off on MotN. Only thing I've purchased from Steam so far this weekend is Zombie Driver HD.

Doubtful. They don't really do recap days outside of Summer/Winter, and they don't appear to be repeating deals like how the flashes/votes were in summer.

Today's the last set of dailies though, so you'll have your answer in a few hours.
So today's the last day of new deals. Anybody buying much after or holding out for the winter sale?
I bought the Sniper Elite collection today. Other than that, just holding out for the Winter sale (unless something amazing comes along). I might buy Far Cry 3 though, that game looks great.
I hope so! If anyone want to get me an XCOM code, I'll gladly buy you something on steam of equal or lesser value!
XCOM will probably (almost guaranteed) to be the same or cheaper come Winter Sale which is conveniently less than a month away. So if you don't mind waiting, you will be rewarded.
So today's the last day of new deals. Anybody buying much after or holding out for the winter sale?
Defender's Quest is pretty cool.

Good choice! I had such a blast with Sniper Elite V. 2. I just rounded out my DLC for it with the last two packs and considering getting the original.
I get that some people put a lot of stock in cost/hour, for some reason, but this seems incredibly unfair to one of the best reviewed downloadable games of the year. Comparing its discount to Black Friday deals....ok.
But...it...is... Black Friday...lol

And we do expect sales and BF prices on all our games across the board. This is CAG after all. I don't care if I got a game for BF or for free, I compare relative value based on price. I don't get down to cost/hour personally, but I see nothing wrong with it.

And any comparisons are fair game. If we don't compare XBL games to AAA, why don't we compare then to Android or iOS games, then? Because there again I could pay full price for something (a couple of dollars) and get hours of enjoyment out of it. Basically, I don't see the need to treat them any different. Games are games.
Guess just Torchlight 1 for me any issue at $3.74? I'll save the rest for the winter sale
You might be able to find it cheaper in the trade forum, but otherwise, that's not a bad price for it.
Tropico 4 is $6. Better than the $7.50 it was last week.
I've been waiting for a good price drop on Tropico 4, but in the meantime they've been loading it up with DLC. It's $15 if you buy everything... and you can bet the DLC isn't going to get much cheaper than .99 each. The base game needs to drop in price or they need to bundle it with the DLC. I think I may wait on this one.

Two things:

Galaxy On Fire 2 (HD Edition) is £3.24 over at GMG UK. That's 75% off. Add on the 25% coupon and you can get it for £2.43, making it 81% off overall. Not sure how long it'll last but it was good enough for me. Looks Elite-y.

ALSO

Gratuitous Space Battles, which most of us will have from a Humble Indie Bundle somewhere, has launched a campaign mode. Interesting:

Story: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/26/brand-new-worlds-gratuitous-space-battles/

It's paid DLC at 50% off so I'm going to have a look when I get home. Seems like the kinda thing that would actually make me play the game.

Thanks for the reminder Flowette, I was waiting on Galaxy on Fire to see if GMG had anything else I wanted to use the coupon on first (Sonic Adventure 2 was tempting), but I think I'll go ahead and grab it now.
Still on the fence about Arkham City GOTY cause of the drm. Can anyone convince me to pull the trigger?
Have you or do you usually play your games more than five times on five different computers?

As long as you just wait to DL and install when you want to play through it entirely then I don't see a real issue.

I mean, if I didn't have a PS3 I definitely would not let the DRM stop me from playing it as it's supposed to be an amazing game.

Not sure if I missed it in the pages and pages of Autumn-Sale-Ness, but bundlestars.com is live:

http://www.bundlestars.com/

Looks like 8 total games for about $8. Some of them, such as Reign and Death to Spies have been in Indiegala I believe. One seems to require Facebook to "unlock".
Still on the fence about Arkham City GOTY cause of the drm. Can anyone convince me to pull the trigger?
Personally, I'm waiting until the game is cheaper before "pulling the trigger;" I feel that, if I'm going to be restricted by Activation Limits, I should wait for the absolute best price possible. (Thus, when/if the Activations run out, it will result in minimal loss/buyer's remorse.)

If you truly enjoyed Arkham Asylum and cannot wait to play its successor, then $7.49 is an excellent price for the Base Game and DLC content. However, I paid $20 for Arkham Asylum when it was relatively new, and I saw the game's GOTY Edition discounted to $10, $7.50, and $5 rather quickly. Pairing that with the DRM of Arkham Asylum, and I have a decent amount of the aforementioned buyer's remorse. Thus, I'm holding out for a lower price.

Again, it's based more on how much longer you care to wait before playing Arkham City because, again, it's under $10 and includes all the DLC.

Damn you, Steam! I went the entire sale without buying anything but now you have Sniper Elite v2 on sale.

Are the Neudorf Outpost and Landwehr Canal packs worth buying?

I'm planning to get Blueberry Garden and Lume - two little adventure titles I've been wanting for a while.

Major Steam sales, backlog, and CAG stinginess have made me try to wait for some discount close to 75% before I buy.

Lume is pretty bad, IMO. I bought it for less than a dollar and I want my money/time back.

It's "cute," but that's the only redeeming value.

I have blueberry garden from some indie bundle, its more of a platformer than an adventure game really, you go about the level (there is only one) to find hidden objects and then you stack them to reach a new area, very short game took me about 35 minutes to complete

I'm of the same way. Unless the deal is too good to pass up (KOTOR 2 for example) I'm probably not buying.

Funny, but I've had Blueberry Garden in my library for years and never played it. It came with one of those indie bundles Steam sold.

it was in a Indie Royale bundle as well, which is where I got it from I believe
Are we expecting new daily deals today or just the remaining ones to run their course?
Anyone have information I do not?

So far the #1 oddball recommend this sale has been Silverfall. I will be picking it up. Any other gems in the rough for cheap? MotN debate is helpful. I still might pick it up, still torn. I probably will.

I wasn't going to get it because I have so many games to play through aleady, but Amazon is selling each game for $2.49. The good news is that each purchase comes with $5 credit to use in January. Even though it's more expensive than buying the bundle, Amazon is essentially paying you $5 for each purchase, and that's something I couldn't pass up.

Silverfall - http://www.amazon.com/Focus-Home-Interactive-Silverfall-Online/dp/B009H649XM
Silverfall: Earth Awakening - http://www.amazon.com/Silverfall-Earth-Awakening-Online-Game/dp/B009H649W8

And for reference, these are the cheap as hell games I picked up:

Ziro
Bumbledore
Horrid Henry
All Zombies Must Die Scorpocalypse
Garshasp: Temple of the Dragon
Naval Warfare
Puzzler World
Mole Control
KrissX
Roogoo
Cricket Revolution
Section 8
Total War Battles: SHOGUN ($1.24 for only another half hour!)

The sale ends Tuesday. I'm assuming we'll get dailies and flash sales until then.
Really, which? The primary example of bad ubi DRM is Anno 2070. Always-Online was patched out of AC2/B/R quite a while back (never bought a title while it had the always online).
Splinter Cell Conviction, the Uplay client didn't recognize that a patch existed. Ubisoft support couldn't help. I finally solved it myself by uninstalling Uplay 2 and allowed Splinter Cell to install the older version of Uplay it comes, which then patched the game immediately.

I had a similar issue with Assassin's Creed 2 but I solved it by renaming that game's Uplay folder to its old folder name, before Uplay 2 came out.

There was some kind of issue where Uplay 2 changed the folder names only on Steam games, but their servers didn't take that into account and didn't patch any of the Steam versions of games. I let them know, not sure if they fixed it since.

Not sure how the BundleStars.com is doing their pricing, but they're down to $6.68 from $8.01 an hour ago. Since the price is going down, I'm guessing it's more like Indie Royale where if someone donates more the price goes down for everyone.
