Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I really liked Sol Survivor and you probably will too if you like Defense Grid. DG is the better game by far, but that doesn't mean SS is bad. SS is more your typical tower defense game, point A to B, no cores. But it very much is styled like DG and the towers and such are pretty fun.
Excellent, excellent; Thanks for the recommendation. I wanted to wait on Toy Soldiers because, currently, the developers are removing the GFWL DRM. (From what I understand, users will be able to choose between the two versions of DRM.)

I have passed several times on Plants vs. Zombies, despite the craze it caused. It may be Tower Defense, but the demo always left me with negative feelings. The most glaring is, of course, the lack of graphical options. Despite getting an HD remake on mobile devices, the PC version has remained relatively hideous. (Relatively.) I like my Tower Defense games, but I feel more effort could have gone into the presentation of Plants vs. Zombies.

I await other CAG's to tell me how crazy I am. To a certain degree, I agree that my reasoning is a bit flawed, but, when it comes to Plants vs. Zombies, I end up "going with my gut." (A rare occurrence, to be sure.)

Well, you're passing on one of the most addictive games ever.

Well, my feelings on PvZ is that it is tower defense, but definitely different than DG. I passed on my phone and it was tons of fun, but I have not touched it too much on the PC. It's fun though, great art style, gameplay, etc. Different elements to it too, but I had a blast on the phone so if you have a phone or a tablet I would recommend it there. Another TD phone game I love is Night of the Living Dead Defense (Grave Defense with NOTD theme). Fun little TD game there too. I actually wish that one was available to play on the PC as the later stages are too big for me to navigate on my phone.

I completely agree. I caved and bought it last Winter but honestly cannot get hooked because playing it on at 1900x1200 resolution it is just disgusting when compared to DG and others TD games.

This is completely normal. I'm sorry that you cannot see us for what we are. There was a paper around 10 years ago that tried to examine why MCR1 mutation (redhead) spread so well since the only advantage it offers is being able to produce vitamin D with less sunlight. It concluded that it must have spread due to sexual attractiveness. France however has far far fewer than neighboring counties -- they burned all of us for being witches. What's wrong with being a witch? ^_~
Really? I can see it being an issue in a game where visual fidelity is important, but pvz doesnt require that. Plus, it's not so bad that it becomes a distraction. I've been playing Gemini Rue, which is locked at 640x400 I think, in full screen and haven't really even thought about the graphics.
So I've never played an Elder Scolls game. Thanks to Draekon, I now own Skyrim, and am looking forward to playing it. However, I love games with deep lore, and from what I've heard, Elder Scrolls has that in spades. Is there a good online resource for delving into the depths of the series, that's fairly newbie friendly and easy to navigate?

Thanks.

Start here. This is the timeline for Elder Scrolls. The wiki is linked and you can click into things that snag your attention.

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline

Edit: Make sure you take a deep breath before going to that page. It's ok not to be able to absorb it all at once. And you can fully enjoy each ES title as a standalone with no history. That timeline can really put people off.
The timeline is not a bad place to start.

I personally have been using the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages since the Daggerfall days back in the 90s. That's my favorite go to site for Elder Scrolls info.

Also a good source for lore is to simply read the books in the game. A Brief History of the Empire and the Pocket Guide to the Empire should be good ones to start out with. If you don't have the patience to hunt down the multiple volumes of some of the in game books there are also sites you can go to online that have full text of the in-game books.

The Imperial Library is a good one.

Be warned though that some of the in-game books are (intentionally) written with a bias of the (fictional) author so don't always take everything they say as gospel and there may be some in-game books whose accounts completely contradict those of other in-game books regarding the same events.

For just a good all around twisty, turny interesting story I recommend the 2920 series.
I posted this on the Gamersgate thread but since some of the crowd here may not check there regularly figured I'd repost here.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI is on sale as a daily on Gamersgate at 66% off for $6.78 ($5.76 with the IGN discount).

It does not Steam activate and in fact Steam doesn't even sell it at all, but I figured it may be of interest to some people who like strategy games. According to Deals4Downloads, the cheapest it has been is this price ($6.78) on December 21, 2010 so doesn't seem like it goes on sale much.

Anyhow, I ended up buying it. I did review well there and I don't think many if any other digital download retailers in the English speaking world sell it. I'll try and give it a quick spin after work later but not sure if I will be able to post thoughts before the daily sale ends since they are on Euro time.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XII was released this year in Japan and could be the last installment. If you are interested in the story of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, then this is a must watch movie.

As an artist I am just a stickler for visuals. 9/10 I get lost in the art direction of games and analyze them that way rather than the actual gameplay.

@INCyr - it's not even that deep man. There's dragons n shit that are loose and they'll turn into vampires if you pay them $20 bucks. You can kill people in their home and steal all their clothes, but steal 1 fucking horse in the middle of the night and you're the antichrist.

Ah new Steam thread smell.

Having a very frustrating day. Trying to update DayZ but for some reason DayZ Commander and Six Launcher is like lol nope, not gonna update. It downloads the files but it does not update or reverts back for some reason I can't explain. :wall:

Do you know if they have plans to release XII state side yet? IF not I guess we'll just have to wait for a fan translation patch.

It does have a fair amount of lore in the whole Elder Scrolls universe. However it's only really there for people who are really interested in it. If you aren't, then you likely won't see it or consider it when talking about the games lore. It's not as good in Oblivion/Skyrim as it was in Daggerfall/Morrowind, but it'll still likely pique the interest of someone who is interested in that type of thing. Example: Here's a picture of what it looks like when you print out all of Oblivions books and bind them together:

That's pretty cool. They should include something like that in a retail package with all the ES games included.

Probably just a cheap eReader with that thing preloaded. Thing's massive.

I used to get into the lores, and but not any more. If it's not mentioned in the game, I pretty much ignore it.

Edit: The Guild should totally have a Felicia Day mod.

Ah kay, I guess have to wait and see I mean in time I am sure I can just import the game and apply a fan translation seems it happens with all the niche styled Japanese games. Also tempted to get the PC Version of RoTK even though I have it on PS2.

I would totally buy a Collector's Edition if it came with that book even though I've probably read all of those books in the games anyhow.

Do books count as mentioned in the game? If so there's a ton of stuff in game even.

Even Bethesda themselves are known to bend their own lore so it's not necessarily something to be sticklier over, it's just a huge rabbit hole of weird story info to jump down if you so desire.

*grumble grumble* I hate it when they put the Dead Space games on sale, because then it becomes a massive task of willpower not to pick them up. I already have both on the PS3, and am very much looking forward to the third one, but I know I don't NEED second (and possibly third on Origin) copies of the two games.

But man, I WANT second copies of both of them, just, ya know, because. The games are awesome.

Just be careful as the games do have DRM/SolidShield though looks like you can de activate uses plus i've heard people complaining about how bad of ports Dead Space games have been. :whistle2:#

I played through and absolutely loved the first on 360, and had a sealed copy of the second on PS3, and still bought both from Amazon. I recently played through both in 3D, I can't even describe how incredible they are in 3D.

It's such a bummer seeing two games like that at $5 on Steam and knowing that you most likely can't have the sequel in the same library*.

* Yes, yes, add non-Steam game. It's not quite the same.

I've accepted the reality of it, but it's still a bummer. It's probably compounded by the fact that I load up Origin so infrequently that I seem to have to update it every time. I had that issue on the PS3 for awhile as well. Meanwhile Steam is always running.

Haha I suppose.

We have it on DS and iOS and so I have seen how nice it looks and I really do love the cartoony style of the game. I would expect the same treatment to be given to the PC version, which it is not so it upsets me.

Also, wtf is up with no two-pack for Tower Wars?! It is primarily a multiplayer title that seemed like a shoe-in for a two pack.

Poop.

Apparently Cladun X2 is now on Steam. This is actually quite a solid title from the PSP.

Great. I was thinking the other day that I'd like to see another one. Hopefully it goes live in the next couple of days. They do seem to have cut down on the time between appearing in the registry and launch.

Before anyone asks, there's nothing currently in the registry entry.

Nevertheless, I'm quite excited to see what will be included.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XII was released this year in Japan and could be the last installment. If you are interested in the story of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, then this is a must watch movie.
Hmm, I would say Three Kingdoms would be more appropriate, than an action-flick.

Or some Japanese Taiga or Jidaigeki such as Komyo ga Tsuji or Gou ~Himetachi no Sengoku~. Both of which I enjoyed immensely. They both take place at the end of the Sengoku era and follow a historically based fiction of daimyo from the period.

A couple of kickstarters that look interesting (probably non-Steam):

Wings. I'm probably going to toss a few bucks toward this one myself. I can remember wasting many hours of my youth playing this on my Amiga 1000. Cinemaware made some great games for that platform, generally with some pretty ugly PC ports (EGA probably). If this is successful, I hope that an HD remake of It Came From The Desert is next.

Tales of Fallen London. This looks like a mashup of collectible card games, text adventures, and RPGs. It's already successful and on for 19 more days, so take a look if it sounds vaguely intriguing. . . . (I should add for the Coconut-minded among us that the $15 tier title is "Succulent Backer.")
I have a 7950. The frame rate I get dips as low as 40FPS when I used the benchmark after setting my options to max. Keep in mind this includes very high forced AA and AS. A 7850 should be able to handle it, but I couldn't say for sure if you could pump up forced AA/AS to very high levels. I was kind of surprised since I idle at around 30-40C on my video card and it was hitting at least 70C in-game with my video card fan blasting at 50% if not more. Though I went windowed mode in the second half because my Google Talk shoved me into windowed mode when I received an email alert through it, which is retarded. I can test more later to see if it's just full screen, my forced settings or hi-res textures.

I never really played enough to Arkham Asylum and haven't touch City to really compare it (I'll play it eventually, just haven't really felt like playing it particularly. Maybe after I see the new movie it'll make me want to). From what I remember playing it on the console though, it's fairly similar. You have a single actual attack button that can be tapped for attack or held for strong attack. Then you have a grapple and counter. When attacking, you can perform combos by using various things such as sprint/grapple/attack/strong attack and then you can also grapple people into environmental objects (fans/soda machines/boxes/etc).

It also have two level systems in place. One being the cops, the other be the triads. Each mission you do, you gain exp for both. However on my last mission I had a car chase and every time you damage property in any way, it lowers your cop score on the mission. Each of the levels have their own tree that they boost and then there are a couple of other things you can level up to, but I'm not far enough to know what they're tied to.

It'd probably be easier for me to record it with some commentary to show you though.
Thanks for brief hands-on review, Darekon! This game and Darksiders II are on my list right now, but I'm just not sure if I want to get them now or wait until they're on sale. I'm a sucker for open world games (GTA4, SRTT, JC2, Infamous 2, etc) so this is definitely on my radar!

I totally understand, having a background in audio/effects/compression, audio artifacts can drive me to distraction. That and bad graphics aliasing.

I actually just got that Three Kingdoms series! :bouncy: Makes me wish there was a English release for more of these type of shows and movies.

Though never heard of the other so I'll have to search those out now as well. and get those. :applause:

Am I the only one that's having trouble finding this thread on the forum list? I guess it's because there's no Windows icon next to the thread.

As for Dead Space, it's a good thing I'm not really interested in them. It's 75% off in Brazil, but the base price is $ 59.99, so the "deal" is actually $14.99.

^_^ A much shorter (10 episode) one that I really enjoyed was Tempest . It takes place at the very end of the Edo period (ends just after the Meiji Restoration). It differs in that it takes place in Ryukyu (Okinawa) Kingdom, which struggled to assert independence over it's own affairs as it had dual subordination to both the Qing Dynasty and Japan.

A 7-episode series following a swordsman in the Edo period comes to mind, but the name escapes me.

I was looking at it and thinking it looks cute and interesting and I was actually thinking about saying to hell with waiting for a bundle and paying full price but then I looked at the price and got sticker shock.

Do people really pay $20 for little retro looks like it came from RPG maker 20 years ago games on the PSN? If so that must be the indie games gold mine.

I don't need no steenkin Nexus, I still got my fire sale HP Touchpad. They've already got Jellybean out for it, albeit an early release that still needs work.

ICS runs fine on it though, most games work and so does everything else but the camera.

I am just replying to say that I actually do want all of them and if they were on Steam I surely would have bought them by now. I don't know what it is, but the more ridiculous or mundane a simulator is the more I am interested.

Too bad most of them are made in Europe which is still in the dark ages of digital distribution and rules under the iron fisted grip of the cruel mistresses Tages and Securom.

Heads up, according to Tony in the Amazon thread regarding the Dead Space 1 & 2 pack
we'll have the same pack for $8 during the Labor Day sale so matching at $10 now doesn't make sense.
I wouldn't bet on it being steam activateable.

It's actually fairly in-depth on customization if I remember correctly and it doesn't really look like it came from RPG Maker at all. It's an Action RPG made by a subsidiary developer of Nippon Ichi Software. It the second game in the series, both of which are on the PSP.

It's actually quite fun as I've played the first one on PSP but never got around to the second. I think it released at $20 or $30 on the PSP and anyone who's into these types of games it's worth it in my opinion. If you aren't though, then just wait for a sale. Hell, this is the steam thread I'm talking to so you'll only buy it if it's at least 50% off.

Not going to get myself too excited about the latest Humble Android bundle. Last one turned out to be wholly underwhelming after I played the games.

Oh my bad it's from the PSP not PSN, now I get why it's so expensive. Crazy console people and their high prices. :p

Anyway, I think the Japanese WAY overpriced that for the Steam market. When all is said and done, it still looks like a little indie retro game. I mean Valve classified Ys as indie and this looks way indier (is that a word?) than Ys to me.

I will definitely wait for a sale of course but 50% won't cut it. I'm waiting for 75% off or at least they could do some multiple packs or something.

True, I just like the chance to pick up a few Android games that I will rarely play. Though I was happy to get some of the games on android (vs PC/Mac/Linux). Though I am surprised how worse World of Goo was on a fat-fingered-touchscreen -- it was a perfect match for playing on my wacom pad.

Couldn't say why they're showing up as Indie really, but neither are really classified as such. Though this wouldn't be the first time that games that shouldn't be indie are being classified as indie on Steam.
