Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I'm a big fan of Atmosphere and how he plays with words, and although Sir Frontalot generally just does silly stuff, the guy is pretty damn good and reminds me a lot of Atmosphere was his phrasing and stuff. Plus he makes me laugh, so hey.
Would you guys recommend Call of Duty 4 from Steam?

I'm seriously tempted but I don't know if there are many hackers just like the console version. It's server based so I should be safe...

Or should I wait for a cheaper price than $9.99?
I played it on the 360 a year or so ago and it was still fun (sniping felt nice), but yeah, it felt a bit dated. If you're a fan of the World at War feel > the MW2-3 feel (slow vs fast, at the heart of it), you'll probably still have fun with MW1 (I personally prefer the feel of the Black Ops series, or Battlefield 3 when I'm feeling hardcore).

That said, I'd have a really hard time convincing myself to pay $10 for such an old game...
There are a few images with the mascots in the steam news section. One for each day of the sale.
I see the little images like this in the news posts:

But I thought there were larger images in the sale backgrounds that might have been available somewhere on the site, the way the summer camp images from this year are available here in nice big wallpaper sizes.

Atmosphere is a they not a he. Slug and Anthony. One MC and one DJ.

Those guys are just constantly spewing horsehit. You created your bundle to be an alternative to ones that had all Steam keys, yet your debut bundle had a single non-steam game.

I really hope those Indie Developers that Facekick made all those big promises to get their money.

I guess it goes to show that not any idiot can make a successful indie bundle and developers and publishers should be careful which ones they deal with, particularly if they don't have a proven track record.

*Edit: Just read all that mess. Good God they always have some drama going on. I wonder what the other side says...
Regardless of their Bliart saga, the issue with their bundle was that it sucked and was way overpriced.
They needed to realize people want steam keys. It doesn't matter what horrible game you put in a bundle. As long as you get steam keys people will buy them....oh and not set a minimum price of like 9 dollars.

We need to learn to stop feeding the trolls.

On a related note, that Indie Face Kick stuff is priceless.

I kind of wish I had a IndieFaceKick shirt now.

Seriously though, anyone who ever went into their Steam chat room could probably tell you IFK had it coming. Bunch of clowns. Oh, and I love how poorly that attempted GamerX pity party linked earlier is written.

I do feel bad for the devs that got involved with these yahoos though. Hope they are not all getting screwed.

EDIT: To clarify, I do not believe anything that GamerX says in his little blog. He has a history of lying and other shady behavior. If Biart was actually threatening to deactivate keys and whatnot, then shame on them. But I'm not about to take IFK's word for it.
Can you guys recommend a good 360 fight stick that I can use for SSF4AE?
Here is what I recommend. Buy a Madcatz stick because the stick/buttons are easily upgradable so buy that and then in the future upgrade the joystick/buttons.

Also Baulder's Gate Enhanced Edition is out today. The only way to get it is through some service I never fucking heard of, and well not going to bother unless it comes to a service that I have used before (like GOG, Amazon, etc).

In reality I should just buy all of those old games in a GoG sale though.

One quick question. I see Planetside 2 is f2p. Anyone try it out and moreso is it worth my time? Right now I have this Mechwarrior Online addiction but I always love new games to play.
Can you guys recommend a good 360 fight stick that I can use for SSF4AE?
Like many others, going to recommend the mad catz FightStick TEs. Those are damn fine sticks, and the sanwa parts are top notch. They've pretty much become the standard for current-gen fighting games. As much as i usually don't care for Mad Catz, they definitely did a good thing with making arcade sticks accessible to a much bigger audience.

Specifically I'd highly recommend the 360 model. If you ever decide to mod it for multi-console use, the 360 stick is stupidly easy to hook into a KittyTE. (As opposed to dual-modding a PS3 stick which is much more expensive, and a right pain in the arse) While i imagine the PS3 ones do the same, the 360 stick is also rather plug and play as far as PC goes.

Pretty much my thoughts on the matter, but I didn't want to lead the discussion in any direction when I posted the link. Some of his claims are patently false and easy to prove false, so I don''t know why he would make them on the internet where fact checking is easy. I'm guessing the truth is somewhere between this article and what we hear from the devs, though much closer to what a dev will say happened. The health related claims to garner sympathy were pathetic. You know what else causes stress? Everything. Suck it up.

Hopefully the people behind the bundle learn from their mistakes and are more professional in any future business ventures, and if not I hope they exit the gaming industry. I hear HP and RIM are hiring!

This was a laugh. I love how he is bashing developers and calling them greedy because they want to get their game out to as many people as possible then cry when a game overlaps in a bundle. Well if that happens then you put better games in your bundle so people either buy yours or buy both.

What an idiot but a hilarious read.

One quick question. I see Planetside 2 is f2p. Anyone try it out and moreso is it worth my time? Right now I have this Mechwarrior Online addiction but I always love new games to play.
See this through my rose tinted glasses...

I don't play FPS's. I play Halo and that's pretty much it. I tried BF2, 2142, etc and I don't really care for them.

I play PS2 DAILY. I play NC... and we're not exactly dominant. But I'll be darned if taking land isn't fulfilling. When you log out and come back, seeing it lost again, well it's a bit disheartening. But then I go and help take it back.

NOTHING in the game HAS to be bought with money. Everything can be done in game though it DOES take some time. The weaps in the store are different than the starters but none of them MUST be bought to hold your own. The vehicle weapons do help a little but they TOO can be earned in game.

I WILL say, that it's F2P. Try it out. See what you see. While it's loading I would recommend watching some Youtube videos. The game can be very... vicious for a newcomer.

I'd love a download of Terminator Salvation. That was one of the games that disappeared off steam the day after the end of a sale. And LOL at people commenting it's the original Worms. I loaded the that game up after it was in the Gala bundle and it looks hilariously bad. It also annoys me with no volume sliders in game. I hope you like its soundtrack!
They needed to realize people want steam keys. It doesn't matter what horrible game you put in a bundle. As long as you get steam keys people will buy them....oh and not set a minimum price of like 9 dollars.
The Steam keys were a huge part of it. The thing is there's no reason not to give them. It doesn't cost them anything and all of their competition is doing it. You can still give a DRM free download too, it's not an either/or situation. Instead of insisting things be the way he wanted them, "Born Free", he should have allowed for more flexibility to let the customers decide which they want.

He also made a huge stink about being DRM free by not giving out Steam or Desura keys when the Desura client is actually optional and in most cases the games still can function as DRM free.

I actually got Depth Hunter from Groupees because I wanted the Desura key. If he had given one out and priced it reasonably I probably would have gotten it from him because he had it in a bundle first, but he didn't, he got up on his anti-client / pro-DRM free soapbox and then charged too much to boot.
I kind of wish I had a IndieFaceKick shirt now.
Was there actually ever a shirt? That long TL'DRy tirade goes on a bit about how they had some "miscommunications" about the shirt and there must still be some people out there who need their shirt and never got it (really? He took orders for it and doesn't know?). Then he also says the USB drive, you know the one that like 3 people ordered months and months ago, is supposedly going to finally ship in December.

How long does it take to throw a few indie games on a thumb drive and drop it in the mail?

Yep. Having done quite a few dual mods in my time, I can happily say that the Kitty turns an evening long endeavor (as in many an hour) into a 20-30 minute operation. It's been a godsend for me with friends wanting modded sticks, I can only imagine how much time is saved for the guys who do that stuff nonstop at EVO and the like. D: While the MC Cthulhu is probably still Toodles' greatest creation in my book, the Kitty is a damn close second.
