Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
when does this start? sorry if this already came up, but im really clueless when this sale starts
It starts today, Sunday. I think Amazon's day switch-over is at 3AM EST. But I really don't follow this sort of thing. They may have to manually make the deal go live.

But yeah, the word is today.

Amazon deals go live between midnight and 1AM PST. It's automated but slightly varaible. Often I can pickup new deals around 12:30-40 AM.

Since it's going around, let me make a few general comments about BGCQ.

 1. If you want an invite, PM me with your Steam ID. Anyone who is a regular participant in the Steam threads here on CAG is welcome to join.
 2. Please do not look at this as just a way to win free games. While it started as a way to counteract the flooding of the CAG-group giveaways with non-CAGs, we like to think of it as more than that.
 3. While we love giving away games as we are able (and we look kindly on you if you do as well), we also want it to be a second community where we can organize game events and other stuff (like our fantasy football league)

Also, send Motoki another invite. pwetty pwese.

Random question: Has anyone bought the Amazon version of Alpha Prime? It's listed on Steam as one of the games where a serial key activates on Steam but there's no mention of it on the Amazon page.
Just noticed this on Kickstarter:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...equel-to-barkley-shut-up-and-jam?ref=category

I mentioned this game ages ago from a random find and apparently that game has a following of some sort as it's exceeding it's pledge goal easily and 26 days to go.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F1cOvZ3nS8

The original game free to play download page:
http://www.talesofgames.com/related_game/barkley-shut-up-jam-gaiden/
That looks possibly more bizarre than the first game and I didn't think that was even possible.
That game looks funny but not worth the asking price.
That's kind of how I feel about most kickstarter projects. At least this one starts at $10. Most start at $15 for some indie/retro game that you know will be in some cheap ass bundle at some point. I realize they have goals to meet and all that biz but I really wish they'd do cheapo $5 entry fees.
3 games not worth $10? Damn son.
It's not 3 games, it's actually just one with an incredibly long ass name.

The Queen has spoken!

But really though, let's respect his decision and play nice.

Welcome back, Motoki! :D

I was always more of a SNES kid, but $5 is worth it alone for classics like Gunstar Heroes, Thunder Blade, Shining Force and Comix Zone. I remember playing Phantasy Star IV on a friend's Genesis and getting really jealous when comparing it to my NES Final Fantasy haha (yes, I was a late adopter).

Chances of getting similar SNES Classic Packs on Steam? I'm guessing less than 0.00001% unless Nintendo becomes a purely software company like Sega...
Apart from the fact that a FAQ page is not a legally binding document last I checked.
Nothing here has to do with what's legally binding and what is not.

Humble has clearly stated that they don't want people breaking apart bundle keys to give away.

CAG moderators have clearly stated that Humble has clearly said they don't want people breaking apart bundle keys to give away, so don't do it here.

That's it. End of story. We're respecting Humble's wishes and respecting the policies of this forum. Whinging about it or looking for loopholes doesn't change both Humble and CAG's policies are clear.

Just a head's up, the Mods have apparently changed their minds about trading humble bundle keys.
I talked to the other mods and since you can't abuse the Indie Bundles by purchasing them for a penny anymore, they can now be traded again. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Off on a tangent...I figured I'd give Far Cry 2 another go as GG has it for $2.99 (Fortune Edition). Don't know if it has been cheaper, but it's low enough for me to try it one last time. Far Cry is also $2.99 or get them bothe for $4.99.

Patience rewarded. Bought the Dreamcast pack. Of course, having a perfectly good Dreamcast connected to the TV all this time helped me to resist previous deals, but at a dollar a game I don't mind adding these to my Steam library.

I love Jet Set/Grind Radio.

Edit: Oh nice, another $5 promotional credit for January. Wasn't expecting that.

Is anyone else having a problem logging into Steamgifts? When I sign in through Steam and it sends me back to SG it still needs me to sign in. Tried it on 3 different browsers and same thing one each.

Yes, same deal here.

Yeah, I resisted when I saw the original bundle had DRM issues. Funny tho the review in the new bundle getting all butthurt over Steam keys. I guess you can't satisfy everyone.

Yeah, that deal goes on until Christmas. Not sure I'll get to use all the credit in January, but it is nice to have the option.

That's actually how I try and figure out if a game is Steam or not in the many cases (though they are getting better) when Amazon doesn't list it. If it's steam, someone somewhere is going to get into a huge rage about it and write an angry 1 star review.

In this case it was even listed on the page, though they probably should do a better job about making that sort of thing front and center. Still doesn't excuse people from needing to read the info on the page or research what form of DRM/Client etc a digital game uses BEFORE the buy it.

Do they both give you steam keys?

Just finished The Walking Dead. It delivered in all areas (except an adequate save feature). I'm usually not a fan of adventure games, because the pacing drives me batshit crazy. The Walking Dead was so intense and moved so fast that I had to walk away from it a few times. All the hyperbole that has been spewed in this thread about it is true- the game is a true gem.

Also just got the PowerA AirFlo wired 360 controller for $20 @ TRU as an extra controller and it worked instantly with the PC. recommended

I have this, and used it to play Amalur a couple weekends back. My thumbs hurt from using it for some reason, which has never happened with other controllers.

I also haven't gotten Linux to recognize it by using drivers for the official 360 controllers. It does work in Windows 8 though.

I'll have to try it on KoA. I only tried it on NBA 2K13 so far which is the main game I play when I have my boys over. Worked pretty well and like the feel, look, etc. I think the range of the thumbsticks is extended more than the OG 360 controller so that's probably why. The extra grip on the thumbsticks is nice tho.

When I plugged it into Windows 7 is just used the drivers for the official 360 controller too.

Anyone else playing Endless Space this weekend? Not a bad game. What's the strike price on this? $10? How long to wait until it hits $5?

There were a few times throughout the episodes where I had to put the controller down and walk away for a few moments. Pretty much at least once per episode I had to just because I was stunned.

Amazing damn game and very, very worthy of GOTY status.

Walking Dead is good, but I felt the last 2/3rds of episode 3 were kinda drawn out and just chores. I loved the rest, looking forward to the next game. I hate adventure games, so this is a huge exception. Looks like I spent 13 hours on the whole thing, not bad.

I know I will be crucified here for this opinion but while the Walking Dead had an excellent story, as a 'game' (even as an adventure game) it was mediocre to poor. The puzzles were insultingly easy so with that and ignoring the derpy QTE's and aiming/attack vignettes it basically stands on the merits of its dialogue and story outcome variations. But, that's pretty much par for the course with Telltale these days. They've basically turned adventure games into interactive serialized movies/miniseries.

I'm hoping it goes on sale again in January on Amazon, so I can use my $5 promo code on it.

I"d rather have boring/simple mechanics with an incredibly engaging story and real pathos than frustrating puzzles and cheesy dialogue any day, but that's just me. Actually, it's probably not just me at all.
