Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Got one for snapshot very recently.

I love it when game devs do cool things like that. I asked them a question, but even if I don't get a key, these games will end up in my library eventually one way or another :p

They're giving out keys at random now, so not everyone who posts a question is going to get one.

Yeah, same here. Thanks to dcarrigg for answering my question and sending me a code for Snapshot!

My snapshot question, about it's difficulty, was answered:

"Snapshot's difficulty is equal to the amount of time you want to put into it. The bare minimum of content to complete the game will be challenging, but nothing too crazy. If you want to hunt down all the secrets in the game however, you're looking at some crazy puzzles and platforming madness. ;D"

And a key about 35m ago. Nothing from the Closure people yet.

I find that pretty ironic. We may just be left wondering, "What if I had submitted my question just a little bit earlier?"

So I have decided to buy crysis maximum edition. It is 7.50 on amazon and steam right now. My only question is which one I should get? I'm thinking origin because it is an EA game, but steam because that's where all my other games are. Any suggestions?

Steam. May as well keep it with all the others.

It's preference, really. There are a few EA games on steam that can also be activated on Origin, but I don't know that Crysis is one of them.

Alright, was mainly asking to see if one played better than the other, got updated more frequently, or maybe has less DRM. But if it's mainly preference I guess I should go with steam.

If I were you, I'd buy it off of steam. Then try and see if you could get a CS rep from origin to add it to your origin account. There's no guarantee that you'll get somebody to add it for you, but from what I hear some people have been able to get them to add it for them. And you'd have to go through the same process to add it on Origin if you bought it off of Amazon.

Of course, if you buy it from Amazon, you also get a copy that you can play outside of Origin. They also have a policy of granting new keys if you run out of activations on a game with activation limits. So there's that to consider as well.

EDIT: hadn't refreshed the page in a few minutes. Didn't see that you already made your decision.

Still haven't quite made the decision. Haha your post only added to my confusion. In the end, Id probably regret not getting it on steam. Plus if I have to talk to a CS rep just to get it on my origin account, well that just seems like to much of a hassle. Thanks for that post, I will definitely go for steam now.

Yeah, I got Crysis Max from Amazon and even the Amazon key for crysis did not activate on Origin. Had to chat with a rep to get it added.

I'd only get it on Origin if you somehow found the Origin version cheaper. If you end up thinking about buying Crysis 2, grab the maximum version on Steam. Apparently it has no DRM (aside from the Steam DRM).

I grabbed Crysis 1 ME on GameFly during their summer sale for $4.50 or so. Haven't seen that low anywhere since.

Who knows if the key will activate on Origin though. Haven't bothered to try yet.

I was of the mindset Amazon would be the place where I'd get the Crisis series so I can always be guaranteed a key that works. Do all the Steam Crysis games have a 50 activation limit now?

Edit: Ok C1 has fifty activations and C2 is drm free. Is Warhead considered part of 1?

I just realized that Borderlands 2 drops two days before Torchlight 2. Dat loot... Won't somebody please think of the children?!

I've found that customer support can activate keys on Origin without too much hassle. They did that for me for the Saboteur because my CD drive broke down and I couldn't install the disc.

I wasn't able to simply add the key to my account, however.

Exactly the reason I canceled my Borderlands 2 preorder, there won't be any time for two large loot driven games.
The Basement Collection's fan discount was a limited time thing apparently. I wish I would have known.
I wish I had known that too, was considering picking it up until I saw the discount disappear.

I did grab the Basement Collection with the discount and thought about picking up an extra copy for gifting or trading, but there's no reason to think it won't go on sale again in the Winter Sale. It will be on a better discount before long, and likely before I've gotten around to playing it...

dammit. i can't believe the deal they have on crysis. i really wanted to get it from steam to try and avoid ea's securom drm, but i eventually settled on getting it at amazon for 7.49. then right after, they put it on sale on steam.
I can confirm that Crysis 2 Maximum on Steam has no DRM:
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9948435&postcount=2330
I'm thrilled about the lack of DRM on the second game, but I wish EA would remove the DRM for the first title.

I have refused Crysis up until now simply because of that DRM. Crysis 2's DRM removal is a hopeful start, but I like we're quite far from the finish line.
R.U.S.E. is selling for 5.99 on gamersgate, Steam activable. No DLC though
Amazon had a bundle with DLC for 7.39 recently, that was a better deal. It's over now though.

I don't think EA had anything to do with the maximum edition for 2 not having DRM. I think that was a crytek decision? I think I remember reading something about that, could be wrong though.

Also all this talk of Borderlands 2 is killing me. I am trying hard not to pre-order it and you all are making it so difficult. XD

Wrong topic, but can someone let me know what they think about this? I'm not looking to spend anything other than the current total though

I just wanna recommend you check Amazon as well for prices since with the PC I am working on they saved me more than the rebates ever would but mind you I only had one $30 rate and the parts from Amazon were about $45 cheaper than Newegg.

Also I do not see an HDD on the list just what I believe is a 90GB SSD. Are you planning on using an older HDD you already have or did you forget to select one?

It seems to me you could scale back the CPU to an i5 3570 to save $100 and spend that money on improving the GPU to a 560ti or 570. You'll top out your GPU before the CPU.

Personally I think i7 CPU's are overrated for gaming purposes. Many tests have been performed and the performance gain for i7 over i5 is minimal, especially when compared to the price differences. Grab a i5-3570K and an after-market heatsink to O/C it without having to increase voltage. The 6850 will definitely be your bottleneck with that CPU, so it's better to get a slightly worse CPU and a better vid card.

I still have my old i5-750 (Lynnfield) which I paired with a $20 after market heatsink to o/c it to 3.8ghz. I pair this a Sapphire 7850 and I'm able to play most games at 60fps @ 1200p with ultra settings, or 1440p with high settings (low AA).

I'd recommend getting either an i5-3570K or 3450 and upgrading the vid card to a 7850 or GTX 670. Just my two cents!

I don't know much about computers, but I've always been told to use nVidia with intel chips and Radeon's w/AMD's.. Maybe that's an old wives tale tho.

I don't know much about Rosewill brand PSU's, but you might look for a comparable Thermaltake.

Also, you're going to need a 2nd hard drive. I highly recommend 2+tb. It's amazing how fast (and cheap) you can accumulate hundreds of games. Oh, and spend $10 for some Arctic Silver 5 (or comparable).
I agree with the i5-3570k suggestion. It's what I used in my PC and it works fantastic even on power saver mode. If you have a microcenter nearby they sell'em for $189.

Also got a $15 gift card and $40 in rebates coming. Trying to take advantage of these weekend sales at newegg so I decided to post here looking for a quick response. I'm happy with all this stuff just checking if it will all work well together or if I can get something better/cheaper elsewhere. Thanks guys!
Yes, wrong thread. The i7 is overkill relative to the rest of the build.

Daily Deal is Kohan Warchest
66% off $19.99 $6.79

Seems pretty well rated. Any thoughts? I'm thinking of maybe just picking up Kohan 2 but if the others hold up well then I might just grab them all.
I don't think EA had anything to do with the maximum edition for 2 not having DRM. I think that was a crytek decision? I think I remember reading something about that, could be wrong though.
I'd imagine Crytek would be the only party in favor of DRM removal. How they got that accomplished with EA's approval is beyond me. Nevertheless, I hope it remains that way - I probably won't pick up 2 while this deal is live, since I want to buy a DRM-free version of the first title.

Hopefully, that's not a pipe dream.
