Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I regret picking up Alice a few months ago for $4, if anyone cares. The controls and platforming are awkward and the rest wasn't interesting enough to keep me playing through that. It's probably not a bad game but I'd rather have my money back cause I don't think I'll ever play it again.

A:MR is so maddeningly full. It's frustrating. Nothing individually is wrong with the game. The mechanics and fundamentals are sound but the total product is just so boring. I couldn't even get through the whole Hatter Industries rigamarole. Plus, I love boss fights and seeing a boss fight intro and then a boss fight outro with the boss fight obviously cut sucks eggs.

Alice was really good on Xbox. I'm sure PC is very similar. Some of the chapters feel longer than they should be, but I only rented it. If I had bought it, then I'd be more than than happy with the long chapters. Was expecting to beat it in a couple hours and it ended up being closer to 11 hours.
Tryst is now on Steam. No general discount, but it's 20% off for all APOX owners.
Well, if anyone is interested in Tryst and doesn't have APOX, just go over here and buy APOX (with another game) for $1.50. That saves you $5 on Tryst, so you're saving $3.50 total.

Not a great discount by any means, but you're basically getting $3.50 off plus another game as well.

My friend used to play that game. I never knew what it was and tried googling octopus game but couldn't find it. It looks interesting. I'd probably get it if it was on sale.

If anyone happens to be sitting at home because they're broke like I am, the PR guy for Telltale Games is giving away free season passes for The Walking Dead to whomever is first to answer his trivia questions. I just won a code and saved myself $25, so I figured I would help spread the word about their generosity. :D IMDB is your friend on this one.

Thanks for the head's up!

I had the answer and entered before anyone else had, but twitter didn't acknowledge it until a minute later. I forgot why I don't like that site.

Thanks man. I tried on two of them, but people are way to fast.
Oh no you d' unt
Yeah, I call bullshit.
I actually enjoyed Invisible War, I mean compared to the first one I could actually make my own character(male or female). I think the trick to enjoying it is to pretend it isn't Deus Ex. Plus it taught us how horrible universal ammo is  Overall it was a above average game for its time.

It is no where near as horrible as Fallout 3, that was a true franchise killing game. (edit) When compared to Fallout 1-2 and how 3 changed everything and even butchered the original story(IE had nothing to do with it). As a old fan it was like if a new Firefly show came out; only this time it is a Saturday morning cartoon kids show that looks like an anime, true it may be "ok" but as an old fan it will always be highly disappointing. Kind of like how Issac Asimov fans must have felt about "I Robot".
I"m too lazy for that answering questions crap. I'll wait for Walking Dead to go on sale.
FTL is pretty addictive and fun. Can be a bit brutal too so if you snag it, try it out on easy first.
And pause a lot. I always forget to pause in the heat of the moment and end up with my weapons just sitting idle while I'm repairing or dealing with boarding enemies.

FTL is addictive but it feels a lot like SAIS or other games of its ilk. Relies WAY too much on luck. Optimal play doesn't ask a lot of you, really. From there it's just the drops you get. And it takes WAY too long to resolve for a game of that sort of chance.

I've somehow sunk 20 hours into FTL since the beta version. Never played a roguelike before, to be honest. There's a fair amount of strategies to discover and the fun is figuring them all out, of course. You'll have to adapt a lot based on the drops you get. Unlocking new ships and layouts is very exciting and also gives you fresh ideas for new playthroughs.
I find the gameplay incredibly addicting, the art beautiful, and the music is just fantastic. Frankly, this is some of the most fun I've had with a videogame this year and really recommend it to everyone.

I remember playing Secret of the Magic Crystals and somehow breeding the demon horse.

I couldn't stop staring at it.

It was just such a surprising addition to a game with beautiful horses to make little girls happy.

It was like, "Oh, and here's Satan's horse. He has feelings too."

I lol'd

Is it weird that I'm really excited to play the game? :whistle2:#
It's an incredible deal IF you don't have any of the games and want them all (or most of them). With the 25% code, you're basically getting each game for under $2, while they're all usually around $5 each otherwise.

I'm not sure if that's the lowest price ever on that one (there's a Deluxe Edition too, mind you), but if you want to jump into the AC series, 2 is a good place to start. There's nothing really wrong with the first game (although people will tell you otherwise), but you're not really missing out on a lot of the story if you start with 2.

If you end up liking the series, you can always play 1 later on. It's still good, but it doesn't grab you and make you want to keep playing as much as 2 does (it can get a bit repetitive, which is the biggest argument against it).
Appreciate the response man.

I ended up picking up the THQ deal since I didn't have any of them nor ever really played any of them besides SR, probably not going to play Metro 2033 so I wish the codes were separate but I can't complain. I forgot about the code too so that sold it to me. So far its been worth it from playing Warhammer alone. I'm feelin' it so far, will have to pick up the expansions when they go on sale.

& yeah I didn't know the first AC had that much of a mixed reception. Its usually the first game that sets of a series so that's weird. I picked it up too but ts not Steam compatible though so I'm trying to get a refund and just get Deus Ex HR Augmented Ed. instead lol.

So the Avencast bonus in Build A Bundle 3 looks pretty interesting. However, I'm, not too sure what 2 games, what would you guys go for (excluding the pony game lol) ?

I'd get 99 levels to hell and either Detour, CreaVures, or Chrome. Depends on what type of games you like. I've heard good things about 99 levels to hell, but it's in alpha phase (you'll get the full game too when it's finished).

Should have mentioned I am after Steam keys only. I think I'll get Creavures and APOX, thanks :)

(I'm not even going to try and read through this monstrosity of a thread, but if this is a repost I'll delete this.)

Project Eternity Kickstarter Pre-Order. It's an isometric, party-based RPG set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment.

Right now if you pledge you can save $5 and get a digital copy via Steam. Once the early bird special sells out the price goes up to $25.

Yeah, they almost at $890K and they're now on Day 2.
They gonna hit their goal EASY, I'd say.

Gotta' love this rebirth of old-school RPG's! :D

Technically, no publisher owns them.
Activision, Atari, Sega, EA, Square-Enix -- none of those kind of big corp's own them.

Fair enough. Is there a gameplay video or in-game pics somewhere?

It's....a kickstarter. While some kickstarters have started with their games half done, most are using the site in order to fund something they're going to make, not something that's already made.
Fair enough. Is there a gameplay video or in-game pics somewhere?
Nope. Not yet.

Obsidian is trying to get an old-school isometric party-based RPG funded, which basically NO [major] publisher will greenlight.
InXile did the same w/ Wasteland 2.
Plus, both Avellone and Fargo have both spoke highly against the traditional-publisher model, of late in interviews.
So, yeah - these guys kind of have to go the non-traditional route (Kickstarter).

Maybe this will be a bloody wake-up call to the major publishers (EA, Activision, Atari, etc)...
YES, there's obviously a BIG market for this kind of game!

EDIT:
It'd be pretty hilarious if Obsidian & InXile don't spent too much (in modern $ standards) to development their game, yet make TONS of money off of it. :)
I'm betting the major publishers will definitely take notice, if (and probably when) this does happen.

Ok, I'm sorry. I guess I didn't think it was unreasonable to want to see, at the least, an in-game picture before spending $20. Obsidian has a well deserved great reputation and obviously doesn't need to.

Thanks, got in early for the first time in a while! Happy to add some of those Desura games to the collection.

Ok, CAG's, I'm having the "on the fence" problem. I see Metro 2033 is a mere $3 on GMG with the "GMG25-1BW0K-K1A3G" Code. I've actually been waiting, somewhat foolishly, for a sub-$5 price, and this is excellent.

However, the game received mixed reviews from CAG's in the past, and, with the hype mostly gone, I am wondering: Is the game fun and worth my time? ($3 aside, that is; I know a great many games are "worth it" for $3, but I'm more concerned with the fun factor.)

It's silly, I know, but, sometimes, I can't push myself off the fence.

I made a collection for the greenlight games; so far the only two I could find are BMD and CTDV. Feel free to upvote and maybe we will get Steam keys in the future.

I don't have an answer, but I don't think this is silly at all. Regardless of the price, your time is worth something. Whether it's $3, $30, or even free, you still don't want to waste that time when you could be doing something more worthwhile or fun.

Thanks for the comment. It is easy to say one is simply too cheap (Though, most, if not all of us, qualify for that one.), but price isn't the only consideration for some CAG's.

In my case, my work hours have increased substantially in the last few months. (I'm sure some have noticed that I'm not posting nearly as often as when the Summer Sale was live.) So, currently, my time is more limited than ever when it comes to games.

You're not being silly at all. I'm not an expert on shooter games and I haven't finished it, but I think Metro has a great atmosphere and a good story. I've enjoyed every minute playing it and don't regret the $5 I spent on it at all. Just my 2 cents tho.

That's really nice, thanks. Maybe we should start a wiki-thread for CAG recommended greenlight games?
