Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Bastion $3.74
Just Cause 2 $3.74
Testament of Sherlock Holmes $19.99

Bastion while having been in a indie bundle is still worth it at that price. Just cause 2, well at that price you can't go wrong. Can't comment on the sherlock holmes game though.
Horrid way to end the sale.
Well there is still one last set of flash deals. So there might be one last gem out there.

I have to admit that I started this sale pretty dissapointed. First few days were fairly good sales, but all on items I had no interest in. The last few days have made up for it, with my only regret on the matter being that I missed the $5 flash sale on THPS HD. >< (Oh well, i'm sure it'll be that much or lower come Christmas)

Anyway, haul so far is Arkham City GOTY for $7.50. Going to grab Castle Crashers tonight (hopefully for $3.75 if i can help it!), and debating Torchlight 2. Might go ahead and spring for it if I can get a 4-pack going.

Also, good to see you again Motoki, even if you have adopted that nightmare fuel avatar! :D
Nope. I don't know of a time when Steam matched a competitor's price ever. In this case this also relates to KoA having a different publisher on Steam than elsewhere.
And it lists that publisher as 38 Studios so pretty sure that game is not getting any attention on steam. I gave up a while back and now have it on Origin.
Surprised I'm not hearing more about the Alan Wake Franchise pack, even if it has been $10
It's been on sale so much that I think most people that wanted it have already bought it.
Any of the tropico dlc worth it?
Yeah I guess I'm kinda wondering the same thing. The answer I'd love it hear is "none of it... just get the base game". Otherwise I'm holding out.
It's been on sale so much that I think most people that wanted it have already bought it.
This. It's the 5th time when it's 75% off and it will be discounted again on winter sale. I'm predicting a permanent price drop soon. Maybe after then I'll finally grab it.
Wow I bought Witcher 2 for $16 during the summer sale and have yet to play it. Now it's $7.49?

Most of it was using trade in credit :)

I think the only thing I forgot to buy was the chicken in Killing Floor, but I'll get it in a month.

So wait, there's one more set of flash deals rolling in 5-ish hours right? Then that's it and we are safe to buy anything that didn't make a flash or daily?

Assuming they don't pull a Jade Empire tomorrow, that is.
wow, for the record the dark souls pc port really is shit. i can't even get it to fit on the screen properly. shame because it's a really great game.
If you're playing Dark Souls: PTD on the PC, you NEED DSFix.

Steam:
X-Com Complete Pack: $7.49
Civ 5: Gods and Kings - $7.49
Orcs Must Die 2 - $5 (from 2-Pack)
Zeno Clash - $0.99
Toki Tori - $0.49

Gamersgate:
Borderlands GOTY - $7.49
Resident Evil 5 - $6.78

Amazon:
The Walking Dead - $12.49

Grand Total of $48.22

Not bad, most of the stuff I really wanted never went on a good enough sale.

My haul:

Amazon:
Civ 5: Gods and Kings $7.49

Steam:
KOTOR2 $2.49

And that's it lol. I was hoping Faster Than Light would get a drop, but looks like the only other thing I might pick up is Primal Carnage.
So is there any reason to play Civ III if I already have Civ V + all DLC?
No, Civ3 is terrible, the worst in the series, I wouldn't even install it. Civ4+DLC is IMO the best of the series, but if you have never played a 4x style strategy game then Civ5 might be the better choice to start with.
So wait, there's one more set of flash deals rolling in 5-ish hours right? Then that's it and we are safe to buy anything that didn't make a flash or daily?

Looks that way on flash deals.

Tomorrow's daily: KOTOR II 90% off.

Welcome back.

I concur with Mooby: Civ 3 is a fantastic game. That said, I prefer Civ 4 Complete to Civ 3.

I can't compare it to Civ 5... I've avoided Civ 5 after reading too many negative comments about the game.

Not too much of a haul for me:

Steam:
Rock of Ages $2.39
Turba $1.24 (no clue, but I love Audiosurf, so...)
Fable $2.49

Amazon:
Paradox War Chest $7.49 (I've been waiting on Victoria II and Hearts of Iron 3, so this was perfect!)

Total $13.61
I paid about $17 this summer (I think), but I was willing to pay to buy it then because I wanted to get the GoG backup copy as well.
I'm in the same boat.

^_^ Welcome Back!
...and I kinda want Jade Empire as tomorrow's daily =D
Ah, Total War Shogun and Fall of the Samurai are back up in price from before. Should have pulled the trigger
Fall of the Samurai is $7.50 on GamersGate or else both will definitely be on sale over Christmas.

I also felt the sting of that "great deal" unplayed Witcher 2 for $16.50 this summer. I'm making a push to (a) buy less stuff and (b) prioritize some of my recent AAA titles to the front so at least I'll have played them when they drop more.

And, on that note...

Blockland - Free (Hey, I'll count it in my haul!)
KOTOR 2 - $2.50 (Steam)
Call of Juarez - $2.50 (Steam)
Orcs Must Die:GOTY - $2.50 (GamersGate, inc. blue coin cashback)
FEAR bundle - $9 (Amazon)
Max Payne 3 - $9 (GG, inc bc cashback)
Dishonored - $18 (GG, inc bc cashback)

Total: $43.50
I'd really like to get GTA IV but I'm wondering if people still play this online, full servers.

... Blockland - Free (Hey, I'll count it in my haul!)...

Oooh, forgot Blockland. I enjoyed what I played out of that one a lot too.
I'm so jelly...

This was my first Autumn sale (I joined Steam around day 2 or 3 of the Winter Sale last year) and I wasn't really disappointed. My backlog makes it rare for me to purchase anything for more than $10, but I built up a pretty big Steam wallet from trade-ins to Gamestop. I grabbed a bunch of the cheap RPG's that were 75% off or $2.50.

Any thoughts on what will be in the last set of flash deals?

I was hoping for a Risen 2 package with a hefty discount because it seemed like the price was dropping like a rock, but I guess it was too close to the last time it was on sale. I'm gonna hold out for the Winter sale.

I'm a little surprised there hasn't been a better sale on the Divinity Anthology. Sure, the Divinity 2 Developer's Cut came out recently, but before then Divinity 2 had been in some pretty big sales. If it's not one of the last flash sales, I expect it'll get a good discount for the Winter Sale.

I bought Civ 3 in the metal tin at release, installed it, played it once and never touched it again. I'm pretty sure I still have the discs and manual around here somewhere. It was a buggy slog at the time and I just couldn't give up Civ 2 for that mess.

Cheapest Steam sale for me ever. KOTOR II at $2.50 was literally all I spent. I wanted CS:GO, Orcs Must Die 2, and Torchlight II, but I can hold out at least until the Winter sale.
Civ 3 is definitely not terrible. In some ways it is better than IV and certainly miles better than V.
Oh yeah? How you like that corruption mechanic? There is a reason it doesn't exist in Civ4. Probably the most hated game mechanic of all time, right after QTEs.
Was Civ 3 the one that was put on the back burner cause of Alpha Centauri?
Civ2 and SMAC were lead by Brian Reynolds, he left after SMAC. Civ3 was a new team, new design ideas, and new game mechanics that were not fun.

Also just restating that The Witcher 2 should be a must buy for $7.50 expecially for anyone still ont he fence. It's one of the best RPGs I have ever played. Just be sure to play it on Dark Mode.

I don't think it will be more then 75% off during the Winter Sale but maybe they will lower the MSRP, but I doubt it.
Wow I bought Witcher 2 for $16 during the summer sale and have yet to play it. Now it's $7.49?

{Looks through my Backlog Rulebook}

Backlog rule #777:
Don't buy games at less than 75% off, unless you plan to play them ASAP.

Yes, I have learned this the hard-way, my friend.
Trust me on this one.

Also, don't forget that you can get a key for a backup copy on GOG as well. One could easily get said key and sell it to lower the price to paid for the game just a bit more. Both parties would be greatly satisfied, and everyone walks away happy. Just a thought. ;)
Civ 3 is definitely not terrible. In some ways it is better than IV and certainly miles better than V.
What are the negatives about Civ V compared to IV? I've never played any in the series but I was watching Civ V videos today and they got me interested.

Also, anyone think Civ V will go even lower during the winter sale?
Any thoughts on what will be in the last set of flash deals?
I don't know but I'm hoping for Endless Space and Warlock for the DLC.
That's an amazing avatar. I wish someone would make something like that for me ;)
That is a Hawaiian Shirt, but your head 's to big to tell. Enjoy Fluffy.
So wait, there's one more set of flash deals rolling in 5-ish hours right? Then that's it and we are safe to buy anything that didn't make a flash or daily?

Assuming they don't pull a Jade Empire tomorrow, that is.
So, besides Jade Empire - what's the rare game that NEVER goes on sale, but will go on sale tomorrow and TROLL everyone?
Hmmmmm....
;)

The proper form is a game that NEVER goes on sale, but is on sale for 50% right now, and will promptly be 75% off or more during the daily deal tomorrow.

Remember when Steam didn't have daily deals? Back like 2 years ago, when we all had money and our sanity?

Ahh... Those were the days.
Never pay more than $10 for a game!
That rule would apply more so to Triple-A $60 titles more so than anything.
That $10 or less rule really doesn't always apply.

What if it's an Indie game that start off at $10 normally (i.e. Hotline Miami)?

75% off is the better rule - b/c most games on Steam never hit below 75%. :p
This "75% off or the rare better % off" rule is best used for games you plan to instantly "Backlog."

There's the rare exceptions you can make - i.e. it's a game you for some reason must have and play RIGHT NOW as soon as it's purchased and fully downloaded.
We can't win them all, but you can win most of these battles.
Tempted for Witcher 2 at that price but I just bought it for $10 from that Microsoft sale...
Here's a question - does the Steam version of Witcher 2 give a key that you can activate on GOG?
Obviously, you can activate Witcher 2 PC Retail over GOG - so you can get the extra goodies.

SIDE NOTE:
I already own Witcher 2 from GOG directly.
Great game.
