Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Well my PC gaming life is complete. My GF got me tickets to the VGAs tonight - 3rd row, dead center right next to the Walking Dead cast. Being 10 feet away from my hero, Gabe, as his team accepted the Half Life 2 Game of the Decade Award was surreal. Adding to the surreal effect was the open bar.
Click the pic. Not sure whether or not the picture linked by the picture below is NSFW. Still trying to figure it out.

Wow! It really is a woman trapped inside that man's body. As far as NSFW, I'd apply the rule of, "I wouldn't want anyone to see that on my computer at work."

Wow. I think I just ran across the most slightly insane review on Amazon about Need for Speed: Carbon. (Ordinary street racing game, nothing offensive.)

1.0 out of 5 stars Need for Speed: Carbon, March 19, 2010
By Susan Sacks - See all my reviews
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Need For Speed Carbon - Windows (DVD-ROM)
It is my own personal opinion that a rating of Teen would have been more appropriate for this game. I bought it for my 11-year-old son after reading some other reviews, but they did not really represent the true nature of the game. It's certainly not awful, but I really don't need my son racing through city streets hitting station wagons and minivans and intentionally smashing police cars. I am a gamer myself, and full well know the difference between games and reality, but there are so many other racing games available we bought one of those and won't let him play this one anymore. This is just an FYI for parents who may share our sensibilities.

I fear the next racing game she buys is a crappy F1 simulator with a single oval track with no opponents, only the clock to complete against.

Ari Brouillette: “Please allow me to share with you how “The Secret” changed my life and in a very real and substantive way allowed me to overcome a severe crisis in my personal life. It is well known that the premise of “The Secret” is the science of attracting the things in life that you desire and need and in removing from your life those things that you don’t want. Before finding this book, I knew nothing of these principles, the process of positive visualization, and had actually engaged in reckless behaviors to the point of endangering my own life and wellbeing.

At age 36, I found myself in a medium security prison serving 3-5 years for destruction of government property and public intoxication. This was stiff punishment for drunkenly defecating in a mailbox but as the judge pointed out, this was my third conviction for the exact same crime. I obviously had an alcohol problem and a deep and intense disrespect for the postal system, but even more importantly I was ignoring the very fabric of our metaphysical reality and inviting destructive influences into my life.

My fourth day in prison was the first day that I was allowed in general population and while in the recreation yard I was approached by a prisoner named Marcus who calmly informed me that as a new prisoner I had been purchased by him for three packs of Winston cigarettes and 8 ounces of Pruno (prison wine). Marcus elaborated further that I could expect to be raped by him on a daily basis and that I had pretty eyes.

Needless to say, I was deeply shocked that my life had sunk to this level. Although I’ve never been homophobic I was discovering that I was very rape phobic and dismayed by my overall personal street value of roughly $15. I returned to my cell and sat very quietly, searching myself for answers on how I could improve my life and distance myself from harmful outside influences. At that point, in what I consider to be a miraculous moment, my cell mate Jim Norton informed me that he knew about the Marcus situation and that he had something that could solve my problems. He handed me a copy of “The Secret”. Normally I wouldn’t have turned to a self help book to resolve such a severe and immediate threat but I literally didn’t have any other available alternatives. I immediately opened the book and began to read.

The first few chapters deal with the essence of something called the “Law of Attraction” in which a primal universal force is available to us and can be harnessed for the betterment of our lives. The theoretical nature of the first few chapters wasn’t exactly putting me at peace. In fact, I had never meditated and had great difficulty with closing out the chaotic noises of the prison and visualizing the positive changes that I so dearly needed. It was when I reached Chapter 6 “The Secret to Relationships” that I realized how this book could help me distance myself from Marcus and his negative intentions. Starting with chapter six there was a cavity carved into the book and in that cavity was a prison shiv. This particular shiv was a toothbrush with a handle that had been repeatedly melted and ground into a razor sharp point.

The next day in the exercise yard I carried “The Secret” with me and when Marcus approached me I opened the book and stabbed him in the neck. The next eight weeks in solitary confinement provided ample time to practice positive visualization and the 16 hours per day of absolute darkness made visualization about the only thing that I actually could do. I’m not sure that everybody’s life will be changed in such a dramatic way by this book but I’m very thankful to have found it and will continue to recommend it heartily.

Just so everyone knows, Hamlet from the recent indie bundle is pretty crappy. The graphics and puzzles are creative -- but they're damned hard. There's no mouse change when you hover over items you can interact with, and sometimes what you can do is so arbitrary it wouldn't occur to you. As a result, you end up clicking all over the screen and trying to interact with everything.

And the relationship to Hamlet is nearly non-existent.

That's unfortunate; Hamlet was one of my favorite Shakespeare plays...
Off topic, but for anyone who enjoys Hamlet, instead of spending money on a game that bears little resemblance, check this Kickstarter out!

Thanks, it's good to know that I haven't missed anything by skipping the bundle. :)

It's official, I hate the placement of the gigantic "Big Picture" mode button on steam. Maybe I'm just a clumsy oaf, but I've already accidentally clicked on that button twice when trying to minimize the steam client. It doesn't bother me that it's so big, but couldn't they move it away from the upper right hand corner? Say, perhaps, the middle of the bar at top? That way I won't be clicking on it by accident.

Oh, so I'm not the only one...

This lines up with many of the professional reviews I read around the time it was released. I'll give it a shot anyway because I'm a Bard nerd, but I'm not expecting much.
I want a game based on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
Only if we also get one based on Shakespeare in Love. That should keep Tom Stoppard in the money-covered toilet paper for the foreseeable future.

I just tried the Steam version of Jet Set Radio, and, so far, it's exceeding my [admittedly low] expectations. I think it's awesome to have a PC version of the game, and it doesn't seem to function as a straight port. Some of the visuals have been updated, including button prompts, and the game auto-saves, as well.

Getting the game to recognize the Analog Stick movements during multi-step spray-painting segments is still as annoying as I remember, though. In addition, I have a complaint: At least one of the Steam Achievements could have used a spellcheck: "Complete the tuorial," it demands.

Though I've only had a small sample of the game, it has been positive. What do other CAG's think of Jet Set Radio's PC debut?
I never trust not seeing a mention of additional 3rd party DRM on the Steam page as an indication that it's not there, particularly with certain publishers I know from experience are notorious for it. Been burned too many times with that.

Also I had vage recollections that there was discussion that this game had additional DRM when it first came out. Unfortunately it was on the Steam forums but I found a remainder of it in the Google cache

I don't know what you consider intrusive, but I just installed it and there's a CD-key with what appears to be a one-time activation. I don't know whether that's a form of Securom or not, but that's all I saw.

What if sex was a MMO...?

EDIT:
Overrated. Someone always quits mid-game. Single player story is fine.
Is there DRM?

Does it use Steamworks?
If yes - does it have an "offline mode?"

Or is it DRM-FREE?

It caused me to reinstall the Pixelvision skin, the button is much smaller with it. You can find it via google, I can't get a link cause steam forums are under maintenance.
