Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Good to hear! I'm pretty sure I'm picking this up too. I'm a sucker for the genre.
I print out a copy of the box art for every game I own on a black and white sheet of paper and then I write on the back in sloppy cursive where I got the game, how much it cost, and my score for it in fox tails. I then file the 100s of sheets of paper by the dewey decimal system with each sheet getting it's own file folder. I then scan each sheet and file folder back into the computer and then keep them in a file cabinet near my desk.
I think I like this method. It seems most efficient.

You should probably also consider having a different filing cabinet for each game, but I don't wanna go crazy here.

Apparently steam still has sales. Who knew?

This looks kinda fun, though I really wonder why they don't have video on the steam page (or a forum link).

What kind of irritating quirks? I'm on the fence about picking this one up.

Hmm, this sorting does bring up an interesting question. How do you sort physical games? Computer games are little harder due to the large variation in package size, but console games benefit from the nice standardized size (barring CE).

My PS2 and DVD-case sized computer games are sorted on bookcase shelves. Like things get lumped together, e.g. racing, or multititle series, but the rest are a little dynamic with recently played titles at one end and untouched backlog at the other.

Thrown on the shelf with no sorting or standards. Multiple rows in front of each other, jewel cases mixed with large boxes, games sitting on top of the rest. It's chaos.
Castle of the Winds--ah, the memories!
I know right! :applause: Funny thing is I only started playing it in 07 thanks to Home of the Underdogs and a really old school computer I had at my first job at a insurance company..Not exactly thrilling but CotW made it thrilling and also very easily alt-tabbed

All of them on a dvd rack..and sadly a very shoddy dvd rack as it seems finding a well made horizontal dvd rack is like a pip dream. Though really my physical collection is almost dead now. I have been selling off a lot of games I thought I would keep just because of their status like Suikoden 2 and Shin Megami Tensei's.

But in the past year i've realized how idiotic it is to try and "collect" games as they hardly raise in value and only drop. Not to mention I'd never have time to play them all. Basically i've gone from a collection of 200 PS2 games down to 20 if that. Same goes for my PS1 collection but that went from 300 to down to just 2 games, the best two games on the system though

The really scary thing though is with Steam it is hard to realize how many games you really have, as unlike with physical copies you don't really see 300 games staring you in the face.

My legacy PC games are all in one of those CD holder book-thingies with any manuals worth keeping in the desk drawer. Medieval: Total War (the first one, still my favorite), Pirates!, Impossible Creatures, Civilization II, Doom II and more blasts from the past.

Last year for Christmas my wife bought me a copy of Batman: Arkham City on DVD and I felt bad inside knowing she way overpaid for it (I'm sure she bought it full retail from Amazon or something). Also, she prefaced it with "I was asking what the biggest game was..." and I was totally expecting Skyrim. I felt like Bart Simpson opening Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge.

Does anyone else check the deal of the day and then quickly forget what it is because it is so underwhelming only to check it again a few minutes later thinking you went to the page and forgot to see what the deal of the day was?

That happened to me twice today.

There's a Carcassone PC version? Why did I not know this? And why isn't it on Steam? GAH!

So true. I've played a few hours of Renegade Ops (no-coop) and had a cackling good time. It's a twin stick shooter, so a controller is strongly recommended. It kind of reminds me of an evolved version of Ikari Warriors and similar games in that genre (with a bit of 1942 thrown in). It's very much worth the price if you like the genre. The driving physics is kind of fun too. I didn't run into any bugs. I have read that is doesn't scale for co-op. Single player is a fun challenge.
Ikari Warriors... 1942... Ladies and gentlemen, I think I've found my future second wife

Thanks for everyone's responses! It sounds like I'm not the only one who enjoyed playing Renegade Ops single player, though I think I'll try to buy a couple copies for my friend next time it goes on sale :) I was surprised because I bought Shoot Many Robots 4 pack for my friends and, while the game is decently fun co-op, it's incredibly boring playing solo. Renegade Ops was a good change of pace in that regard :)

I'm so often unimpressed by the daily that I just assume anything good will be mentioned here.
Sorry to sidetrack, but do any of you have opinions about Renegade Ops? I heard that it's pretty fun co-op but none of my friends have it so I've been playing it single player... and surprisingly having a blast. Anyone here enjoy the game or still play it?
I like it, but then again I've only played it a handful of times. I think it's because the levels feel too long - you have to kill umpteen tanks, rescue umpteen more villagers/whatevers, shoot umpteen turrets and then it's on to the boss for umpteen more ways to knock his health down.

I'm not saying by any means that it's a bad game, it really isn't, but I think what I want from it is a short 5-minute-burst kinda game, where I can shoot stuff and feel quickly gratified. Maybe RO just isn't for me.

Now Shoot Many Robots, that's a game I've revisited umpteen times over. I like it way more than I should do. Great fun.

Edit: heh, you replied about SMR while I was replying to your original post  Must admit, haven't tried co-op yet.

Final umpteen count: five.

DVD cases are 20 cases/foot. 300 games would be 15 feet, or about 4 shelves of a four-foot bookcase. Yikes! Remind me not to make such scary meatspace conversions again. (Steam Library: ~190, but I have a good number of non-Steam DDLs, and a bunch of not yet redeemed indie bundle keys).

You'd better me able to stay on my top 10 high score list. ^_~

Ooh Carcassone has a tablet version, $5 Play Store I find board games against a computer really hit or miss, Chess, Go, and Risk work well, but for others I'm just too used to a more social aspect, hough I have used my tablet as an electronic game board.

Haha, both games are great, so I guess the enjoyment just depends on the player's taste. You're right, RO has much longer levels than I originally expected, but I enjoy the dynamic objectives and tongue-in-cheek comic book story. SMR was pretty fun with other friends, but when I play it on my own each level feels like a less enjoyable Metal Slug style of game.

That's the only thing I semi-regretted not getting during the steam summer sale.. but there's no way in hell I'm using Impulse.

So I had to ship my computer so I download a lot of my indie games on laptop. Damn it Super Meat Boy is brutal I don't know if I have the patience to beat it and Braid that one I just passed most of it to get to the doors because the rewinding stuff is over my head and I think I need a walkthrough for that game. Bastion on the other hand was what I was expecting and I had fun beating that I could see myself beating that again after I beat down some of my backlog.

For physical media, I use IKEA BENNO towers. I bought one from the store itself, got 2 for cheeps off craigslist, and another for free off Freecycle. My wife hates them, and they're a bitch to dust, and the more I think about it, I'm glad I'm slowly going digital. Wouldn't have thought that just a few years ago. CE stuff and the like goes in the closet, and lots has supposed to've gone on eBay for a whiles now.

It's just fun enough to sucker me in every time I scan across it. I'd love to see a bit more variety, but the lure of a new level and new loot on top of a fairly competent shooter is just too much temptation.

For my old PC stuff the discs are all in a binder in no particular order and the boxes are stored away in large plastic boxes. For console stuff I have them all on shelves first grouped by console and then in alphabetical order.
What? What!? Don't leave us hanging. What 2 games?
From my limited knowledge of PS1, the short short list would be Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (probably my favorite game soundtrack). Then again, I'm sure Sophita will suprise us! :)

Renegade Ops has a raucously entertaining GI Joe atmosphere but was a rather rote and boring twin stick shooter in solo. I had to force myself to play it to completion. Did not really like it. Was not especially bad but just never got good. Too much repetition, uninspired levels.

Carcassonne on PC thrills me. Will have a look at it.

Indeed, I rarely buy the daily, although I did pick up The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom yesterday and it's not bad for $1.24.

More often than not, however, I do what pROvIs does and forget I even checked it. :p

That happened to me twice today.
You'd better me able to stay on my top 10 high score list. ^_~

I don't even want to know how bad I would suck at Ikari Warriors today
There's a Carcassone PC version? Why did I not know this? And why isn't it on Steam? GAH!
When I saw that post those I had those same exact thoughts. I am surprised by how few board games get made for the PC.
I also enjoyed Renegade Ops a lot. I did encounter one bug in the final battle. I was playing that last part for the 2nd or 3rd time, and I was just about to die on my last life when I launched the final rocket to destroy the end boss. I don't remember who was hit first, the boss or me, but we both started to explode pretty much at the same time. The game thankfully thought I had won, and there I was contemplating the end of my enemy while I was exploding as well. Unsurprisingly the end game was more celebratory than noirish.

For the PC version of Carcassone, the description on GamersGate says "Multiplayer matches via network, Internet or on one computer". I assume this is a turn based game using keyboard input so if I wanted to play with a friend sitting next to me would I just pass over the computer? Maybe hook the laptop up to the HDTV and use a wireless keyboard? The way the description reads I was thinking "on one computer" was a local thing. I'm trying to envision playing this without getting out of the La-z-Boys.

Also, I was going through my Amazon purchased games with Steam keys and noticed that I have not activated Victoria II. The reviews on GamersGate seem to indicate that this game takes some time to learn and I'm not sure I have the patience. Can anyone compare this to Civ 5 ease of play/learning curve?

I'm totally contributing to the off-topic discussion, but I like the nostalgia of talking about the PSOne's expansive library. I hold Silent Hill, Resident Evil 2 (Dual Shock Edition), and Grandia in high regard.

However, I concede that RE2 is the most likely to appear on a "Top 2" list.

I haven't played Victoria II, but have been told it is more like Crusader Kings or Hearts of Iron than Civ.

As far as Carcassone, there is a "hot seat" mode where you would switch the mouse from player to player. Find the game page on amazon and you can DL the pdf of the manual there that explains it.

Started my new job today. Hopefully stuff I own goes on sale until I get my first paycheck.

Although I debate calling it work since while I do have to program and write software which is my job, I am pretty much allowed to watch whatever the hell I want .

I would assume it plays just like Axis & Allies with same screen multiplayer (or hot seat, whatever you want to call it) although giving that example most likely passes over almost everyone's head here. Of course how the PC was set up in my families house at the time meant that only one person could be sitting really at it at a time so between my two brothers and myself we had to take our turn, get up, and then the next person sit down and so on. If there is any way to realize how terrible same screen multiplayer is on the PC it is doing that for hours. Though we liked the game so much it didn't matter at the time.
SMB is brutal but very rewarding. The feeling of getting past a ridiculous level was great!

However, there are many controller smashing moments in that game. :censored::censored::censored::whee:
Renegade Ops has a raucously entertaining GI Joe atmosphere but was a rather rote and boring twin stick shooter in solo. I had to force myself to play it to completion. Did not really like it. Was not especially bad but just never got good. Too much repetition, uninspired levels.
I agree it was fun in co op but I think I would get bored playing single player.

Just not much substance and the story line is standard b-movie fair.
Axis & Allies isn't Axis & Allies without a thousand little pieces to lose under the couch.
Nothing beats Weapons & Warriors. Those balls disappear into oblivion and are never found again... ever.

Carcassonne on PC thrills me. Will have a look at it.
IMO, it's really not meant to be played solo.. however it's silly because most of the achievements have to be obtained in singleplayer. I thought it was very fun in co-op. Forcing people to play singleplayer to get achievements when the game is primarily designed for co-op is really lame..

I miss the days of chilling with my friends, having some beers, playing epic month long games of risk. Online gaming has made huge strides over the past 10-15 years, but nothing compares to an infinite peace treaty between central america and venezuela.

Might have already been posted: http://www.greenlightbundle.com/pressrelease.html (people have been having trouble viewing it in Chrome). More info:

The Green Light Bundle launches August 23rd with 8 celebrated games as a ‘pay what you want’ sale
August 20th, 2012, Utrecht, The Netherlands
The Green Light Bundle puts eight great indie games into one bundle. Gamers can decide for themselves what price they are willing to pay for this bundle. The developers are doing so in the hope that their games will soon be available on the Steam Store.
The Green Light Bundle launches on August 23rd, exactly one week prior to the community driven approval system Steam Greenlight (TM) goes live. With Steam Greenlight gamers can vote for games they want to be made available on the Steam Store. By showcasing these amazing games the games will get the exposure needed to kickstart their Steam Greenlight (TM) campaign, and thus increasing their chances of getting onto the Steam Store. Everybody wins!
More about The Green Light Bundle
The Green Light Bundle celebrates the launch of Steam Greenlight (TM) by making these games available for both PC & Mac. The bundle is an initiative by Stolen Couch Games. Like many other developers they too have had trouble trying to get their games onto Steam. The launch of Steam Greenlight (TM) gives every developer an equal chance of getting their games onto the Steam Store. With the Green Light Bundle we wants to highlight some amazing games not yet available on Steam. As mentioned before the Green Light Bundle contains eight great indie games:

 • Ichi by Stolen Couch Games. Ichi is an easy to play but challenging one button puzzle game. Don't be deceived by the game’s simplistic look, it’s a brain twister for sure!
 • Paper Monsters by Crescent Moon Games. Dive into the world of Paper Monsters and watch a living world made out of paper, cardboard, and a few cotton balls unfold right before your eyes. Paper Monsters takes all of the classic 2d platforming elements, combines them with cutting edge graphics.
 • Muffin Knight by AngryMob Games. Muffin Knight is an action-packed platformer with stunning visuals and a myriad of fairytale characters, each with their own unique abilities which gain strength as you advance.
 • Guerrilla Bob by AngryMob Games. Get your finger on the trigger and prepare to fire! Guerrilla Bob is an action-packed shooter game with stunning visuals, plenty of kick-a*s weaponry, unique enemies, explosive ammunition and non-stop humor.
 • Samurai II Vengeance by Madfinger games. Become a wandering samurai in the ancient Japan during chaotic times of war. As Daisuke Shimada set yourself on a quest for revenge across the war-scorched countryside. From a seafaring village to a flying fortress to the legendary Isle of the Dead, the samurai will stop at nothing to hunt down his arch-enemy Orochi.
 • Syder Arcade by Studio Evil. Syder Arcade is a multi directional side scroller shoot ‘em up. A love letter to early 90’ games for the Amiga and PC. It’s an uncompromised old-school experience, a furious, challenging action game that will bring the player back in time, when games were all about skill and perseverance.
 • Dino Run SE by PixelJam. Strap on those raptor feet, grab your hat and get ready to out run doom in this prehistoric racing game.
 • Gunman Clive by Bertil Hörberg. In the year of 18XX, the west is overrun by thugs and outlaws. A group of bandits have kidnapped Mayor Johnsons daughter and are spreading havok across the land. Only Gunman Clive can bring order to the west and save the girl!

Ahhh, Risk! Cheers to that with some fine local dark beers!

Lol, if you want to complete it in one night though....the AI on the PC version in easy mode was like playing chess with a toddler. It just does...."stuff".

On another note, I got my corsair vengeance 1500 today. And realized I didn't complete my purchase of sniper elite franchisw until 5 minutes after the sale ended. Here's hoping for a daily or winter sale special. Enough backlog I can wait again.
