Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I can't see the 4 Pack. Any ideas why?
It's anyone's guess. It went up, didn't have a 4-pack option, then had one ten minutes later, then didn't have one again another ten or fifteen minutes later.

Either it's a technical problem, or there never was suppose to be a 4-pack and it was added accidentally. Or they put the 4-pack up at the wrong price and took it down to change it. Who knows.

Really annoying though, since randomdud, M_F_A_H and I were all ready to bite on the 4-pack before it disappeared.
Mercenary Kings doesn't impress. I'd rather have solid action than loot grind.

And, to be honest, it will release cheaper than the Kickstarter would be paid for. Since it is already funded, why pitch in to that?

Still a little upset that Project Giana only BARELY squeaked by. It HAD A DEMO. THATS MORE THAN EVERY OTHER KICKSTARTER HAS BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE
When I saw that some games were greenlit I was hoping Gianna would be on there. Maybe next round.

So a friend bought me Worms Revolution.
I can see Worms Armageddon in my Game Library but Worms Revolution is nowhere to be seen.

Is this normal?

*EDIT* Team17 are looking into it.
I'm as guilty as anyone else of having too many Steam games I'm not playing, but bundles like these just seem silly - are you guys going to be play this stuff or can you simply no longer resist the idea of a bunch of games for cheap?
I am actually starting to resist the idea of buying these bundles unless there is something I really want. A month or two ago I started trying some of these indie games I would get in bundles. Shocking I know, and they were mostly meh to crap. So then I rethought to myself, why did I buy this. I haven't bought much indie bundles since, and I am still on the fence with BAB 3.

Were also not talking Bad Rats crap, were talking a step above that which is my do not want thing. The game has to be Bad Rats level of crap to make me want to play it.

I've been doing the same thing, not picking up the bundles unless there's one or two games I wanted before the bundle launched.
Crap. Seeing it full price at $9.99.Maybe it was a mistake? I own an original copy, but it may just be worth a digital steam version for $2.00
It was yesterday's daily at GMG.

That was my issue too. The art style looks interesting but the game doesn't WOW me enough to want me to support them like I did with Shadowrun Returns and a couple other games. I already got Wizorb when it was on sale and we all know MK will show up on Steam eventually at a 50% or 75% sale.
Fallout 3 supposedly doesn't play well with quadcore processors. I know some, perhaps most, people haven't had issues but it's a common enough problem to find people posting about it.

Try the solutions in this thread; they worked for me.
Thanks for this info and to everyone else who suggested things. I found out that maybe fddshow audio codes were another possible cause for the locking up, but it seems I don't have that installed, so I've followed the suggestion above, hopefully that will fix it as the lockups are more frequent now (takes 2 or 3 attempts just to load the game, and now it locks up occasionally on the VATS shooting)

According to the people on SG, there's supposed to be a new Bundle in a Box coming out tomorrow. Let's hope they have more original games and more realistic unlock goals this time.

It's Deep Space themed and not necessarily all PC games from what I understand.

Saints Row The Third is currently on sale for $10 at GMG. Add this coupon: GMG25-1BW0K-K1A3G and it gets down to $7.50. That was enough for me to bite on the game, using up the remainder of my credit there. Not quite as good a deal as the franchise pack, but for those who don't want everything else, this works well.

Aside from the season pass, are there any other dlc that are absolutely necessary?

The Season Pass DLC is mediocre as hell and everything else is costume pack or vehicle crap. You don't need ANY of the DLC but anything you want you should be able to eyeball.

Like for instance, when it was cheap, I couldnt resist the gang clothes DLC for the Decker Skater outfit, which I then had to mod to look correctly because THQ and Volition are terrible companies.

Gateways is now available on Steam and 20% off ($3.99) until September 20th.

From the creative mind behind The Adventures of Shuggy comes an exciting new retro-styled 2D platformer and a winner of Dream Build Play 2012. Grab the gateway guns and explore a huge lab filled with mysterious puzzles in this classic platforming adventure.
Genre: Indie, Platformer
Crap. Seeing it full price at $9.99.Maybe it was a mistake? I own an original copy, but it may just be worth a digital steam version for $2.00
I didn't realize this was a timed deal when I posted, my apologies.

New deal from GMG:

The THQ-5 pack for $12.49 or $9.37 with coupon. ($2.49 a piece or $1.87 a piece) Seems like a really good deal.

The 5 games are:

Metro 2033
Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn of war II
Company of Heroes
Saints Row 2
Red Faction: Guerilla

Only downside is "One key is provided which activates all 5 games. If you already own one of these games, you cannot gift it to a friend!"

It's about two or three hours. Fairly well designed, though. If you really liked the base game it's probably worth 75% off. The other DLC is fairly pointless even at the dirt cheap prices. The guns aren't really necessary or add any entertainment value to the game and the 'mini-mission' (Tracer Tong) is maybe fifteen to thirty minutes tops).

Also note Missing Link is a separate 'game' in that it isn't integrated into the base game. You boot it up and play it individually.
Anyone have an opinion on the Deus Ex DLC? Specifically "The Missing Link". How much new content is there?
Took me 5 hours with a bunch of reloading to get all the achievements. It's a lot more stealth orientated, and there's an achievement that pushes you to use no augments or weapons, using a ton of stealth.
Aside from the season pass, are there any other dlc that are absolutely necessary?
As other posters have noted, I highly recommend AGAINST getting the season pass. I bought the season pass (and some other DLC) for like $4 or 5 total and I still feel ripped off. The costume/weapon DLC is pointless (though the shark gun and manapult are good for a laugh, you'll really never use them). The season pass DLC never captures the magic that even the worst missions in SRTT embodies, much less the great ones like mayor, deckers.die, etc.

This is what I wrote in an earlier thread:
That said, I just finished the 3 main content dlc (Genki bowl, Gangstas in Space, and Trouble with Clones). While SRTT was probably one of my top 3 games of last year, I could not find much joy in the new content. I feel they lacked the magic and creativity that made me love the original game, and I feel horrible for people who wanted to "support" THQ by paying full price for the season pass. This is not a good way to foster good will and confidence in a product :(

Shatter didn't really hold me when I picked it up last year. I played it once, getting through several levels. It was fun, but it just didn't have a hook. Worth the sale price, though.

I would buy that GMG THQ pack, but only if it had separate steam keys.

Edit:
Looks like the groupees Winter Wolves bundle is up. I mostly wanted Loren, but I think I'll buy this in a couple of days.

The first time I played it I was thinking "meh." But I recently played it a little more and have been enjoying it. It's always fun to top your friends high scores as well.
Shatter is pretty awesome! Highly recommend that one. I liked the music a lot in particular.
Co-sign.

Speaking of soundtracks, I realized I probably have 15-20 soundtracks purchased through Steam so far. It would be nice if there was centralized way to access all music purchases.

So the Winter Wolves bundle is up, and I'm very confused by the bonuses. If you pay $10+ you get Planet Stronghold, but if the bundle sells 5000 copies (doubtful, I know), you get Planet Stronghold again? Erm...

I want to buy, but I want to know what I'm buying into first.

You know most of the DLC, not just skins or weapons, were most likely just scrapped ideas from development because they weren't fun or something along those lines. But rather than create brand new content for DLC they most likely opted to try and improve upon those scrapped ideas. Which is why they probably turned out bad... they were most likely never good to begin with.

You know, I was discussing this with a fluffy person earlier today and I couldn't figure it out either. So if you pay $10 you get the game. But if you pay $10 and they sell 5,000 bundles then you get nothing. The bundle has been live for a few hours and has only sold 63 so I think it very unlikely it will sell 5,000.

My first inclination was to have everyone buy two bundles at $5 each and then you would spend the $10, but if it reached 5,000 you would then have two copies of every game.

That seems very unlikely though. It doesn't hurt to wait and see how it plays out and if they lower their goals.

Updated that front page. Two things: a) Can someone invite me to the Steam CAG group? I've started talking more... Thanks! b) Pretty sure this isn't the right place to post this, but there was no Half Price Books thread. Anyway, I found Space Marine (Steam activatable) with the Golden Relic Bolter key (which still works) for $6! Of course, YMMV...

5,000 bundles seems a tad unreasonable for a bundle this niche. I'm really interested in it, but I'm worried about them realizing the error of their ways and adjusting the goal, making the $10 version rather pointless.

so pay 5 like i did...and right before the bundle expires up it to 10 if it not close to reaching the goal

Looks like I'll be waiting on both Groupees bundles, the BaB to see if they add games to it, and the WW one to see if the bonus is adjusted.

I'll give Shatter another go sometime, then. I'm not sure I even realized that it showed friends' scores since no one else had been playing it at the time.

Man, I'm debating the Saints Row 3 deal over at GMG. I'm sure SR3 will be cheaper on Steam at some point, and I'm in no rush since it doesn't sound as good as the second game. However, it would be nice to have another nonsense sandbox game lying around. I don't know, CAG's; How fun was SR3?

By the way, Shatter for $2.50 is an excellent deal. At that price, I highly recommend the game.

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, the HD update to Oddworld Strangers Wrath is finally out. Free upgrade to anyone that owned it, games are 30 percent off as well.

Anyone else having problems buying off steam today?

Pretty sure it's just me. Anyone willing to buy two games? I'm trying to get Shatter and Deus Ex: Game of the Year but steam won't take my money.

If anyones willing just send me a PM with your paypal and we can work out a deal.

*'nevermind good now. Steam browser works better than firefox.

I think the anti-Saints Row 3 DLC thing is a little inflated. If you really love the game, $4 or so to play new missions isn't a terrible price, and the rest of the DLC (when it's on sale) is DIRT cheap. I'm someone who loves customization and extra weapons in games, so your best bet is just to pick and choose the things that look cool to you.

Wow. I was starting to believe that the patch was never going to come out. I am going to wait a little bit and see if this patch breaks anything before I play it though.

Aside from the season pass, are there any other dlc that are absolutely necessary?
All of the DLC is totally unnecessary.
Speaking of soundtracks, I realized I probably have 15-20 soundtracks purchased through Steam so far. It would be nice if there was centralized way to access all music purchases.
Some of Steam's interface stuff is amazing, and somehow, the flip side is that most of its nuts and bolts stuff is complete garbage.
