Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Can anyone tell me what I have to do to get the free DLC? Is it added to our libraries automatically or do I have to log into Steam to get it or what? I've never actually bothered to buy DLC off of Steam before so I'm not sure how this works.

Also has anybody tried Retro City Rampage yet? What are the odds you guys think it will make it's way to an indie bundle?
May pick up Dungeon Defenders as Flow says, "buy, buy, buy."

What's the deal with all the dlc? Costumes or actual game content?
Unfortunately Dungeon Defenders seems to think it's a F2P game. The DLC varies from extra missions to simple costumes. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that the game is still seeing support to this day, and I have no problems with them charging a few bucks for worthwhile expansions, but the way they charge for even the simplest skins reminds me of some of the poorer DLC I've found on PS3 (President's Day Surprise at $2? Really?). I've never bought any of it myself so I can't tell you how meaty these mission packs really are.

That said it's been integrated into the Steam Workshop. I haven't actually tried anything from that yet but I imagine there's plenty of decent mods/maps to be nabbed for free from there.

The only real "actual game content" is the "Quest for the Eternia Shards" pack which comes in 3 or 4 parts.

There's Halloween maps, presidential costumes etc. (Romney, Obamas, Washington, since you asked), and lots of other guff but none of it is immediately necessary unless you really like the game. The new classes (barbarian, jester, series VX(?), other one) don't really add much to gameplay if truth be told.

As a game, I played it to death (still my top-played game on Steam) but I've struggled to get back to it. There's a real MMO feel of loot-grind-kill-repeat to it which will appeal to some but not to others.

I'd recommend anybody who's mildly interested picks up the base game and probably nothing else. If you find yourself enjoying it - and there is a TON of content - then you can always get the DLC that you fancy later on. I should restate: each mission (13 at first, I think) has four difficulty settings, as well as a "challenge mode" for that map with bonus pets/items etc.

It's a really fun game with friends, but I think it just lost a bit of its charm over time. Still worth playing though.

p.s. Flow's final thought - much preferred playing with joypad.

If you own the game that the DLC is for, you simply go to the store page and click the "install game" which should be where they'd normally have the "add to cart" button. Once you've clicked that, it's now associated with your account. You do have to go through this process though. The DLC isn't automatically added to your account just because you own the game.

Oh and it might already be obvious, but just in case you didn't know, you can't grab free DLC for a game that you don't own.

Dungeon Defenders isn't worth it at this point. It's a nice concept that got utterly ruined by neophyte developers who rushed things like raising the level cap constantly, adding new tiers of item every month, and adding a bucket load of nickle and dime DLC. The only worthwhile DLC is the Shards pack but, even then, the game is past its expiration. If you want to play through the base game with friends it's a fun experience but wading into public games and the community at large will subject you to that F2P MMO vibe with 'mana shops' and people buying/selling digital items for crazy amounts of farmed e-currency.

A lot of the DLC "skins" etc. were free if you owned the game when that particular piece was launched. Halloween was a prime example, presidents pack was another.

I got it when it was in an Indie Royale bundle, I think that was several months ago, I know it was before Steamworks was offered on this title. This is the first time I've heard of free DLC for this game, that sucks if I missed something :(

rofl yeah I have the game on Steam, I was hoping it would add automatically to my library though. Thanks for the info.

Is all of the Crusader Kings 2 DLC going to be on sale? As of right now there are only 2 or 3 forgettable DLC's with discounts. I'm hoping to scoop them all up as I grab Legacy of Rome.

Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes is now on Steam and 25% off ($14.99) until November 1st.

Shy schoolgirl Lilli is having a tough time at the convent. Only her imagination helps her to escape from the strict rule of Mother Superior. But when her best friend Edna disappears under mysterious circumstances, Lilli has to rise above her own and face a tough journey to not only get her friend back but also confront her subconscious...

You make it sound as if the game got worse from the DLC, which makes absolutely no sense. Sure the DLC is terrible, but that is meaningless to the base game because the base game is still pretty much the same. It has its own bits of terribleness such as a horrible interface. And shockingly playing co-op via public matches is horrible. I would be shocked if it wasn't horrible.

Hmmm, Lost Shards of Eternia Bundle is only $3.24 for 6 DLCs. Not bad. I wonder if they will offer Halloween DLC for free this year? Maybe for the day only or something?

No, I said it got worse from a combination of that plus bad design decisions by the developers. You're agreeing with all my points: I qualified my comments saying the base game is okay to play with friends although personally I'd still probably pass on it.

If you haven't played Dungeon Defenders, have some online friends to play with, and enjoy level up + collect cool loots types of games, then I would still definitely recommend the base game. I played with two friends, and we easily spent 100+ hours on that game. I never got around to playing any of the DLC (too many other games to play, but my friends seemed to like the extra chars and levels), but the base game is definitely worth it, especially since it's pretty cheap.

I think it's a case of each to their own, but yes I'd agree that the non-stop DLC water the game down a bit. However, I can trump your entire argument with this:

That's a giraffe. On a treadmill. It's a DD pet reward for beating... somethingthatInevergotroundtobeating.

Your move, golden calf.

Where can I purchase this?

9 pages of Rocksmith DLC launched today, that's absurd and completely blanks out the main store page.

Also for some reason I'm not getting the Doom 3 BFG discount. Not that I'm going to pick it up right now, but I own Doom 3 from the Quakecon 2011 pack.

I know someone has explained this before but how can I stop Steamgifts from showing games that I own? I've spent points on DLC that I didn't realize I had.

There is a plugin you can get but it won't hide dlc. Just base games

That would still be super helpful. I'm on Chrome, is there a plug-in for that?

Yup. Go to the forums there i believe the thread is stickied. I'd link you but I'm on my iPhone posting.

Thank you both!

[Edit] I consider myself tech literate but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is asking me to do.

I've won 14 times in 1187 entries. I think most of mine have been from specific groups. Group and private giveaways are really the way to go with SG.
After entering 64 giveaways on SteamGifts for The Ship in the past 2 days, I FINALLY WON! wohoo! my third win on steamgifts ever.
Turns out its a 2 pack.
If anyone actually wants to play the game, pm me with your steam profile link and ill make you a winner too.

I agree group and private are the best, but unforuantly for those with giant Steam libraries the pickings are slim. I find myself being able to spend points on pretty much all giveaways that I don't have now and still have points lol

I've won 2 out of 1,269. Those 2 were big developer giveaways though (tryst & guns of icarus online), so I don't know if they really count as "winning". Everyone that entered the Guns of Icarus giveaway won and I had a 1/3 shot on the tryst giveaway.
This post had me go check out of curiosity how many times I won on Steamgifts.
I've won 14 times in 2278 entries.

2392 entries, 79 wins >_>

Then again I'm quite active on sg, especially for giveaway puzzles, where many of my wins come from.

Also, thinking of biting on the new King's Bounty, but prices drop so quickly on that series. I wouldn't be surprised if it were 66-75% off by the winter sale.
Did Steam community just die for everyone or am I just special?
Steam announced maintenance for this evening. That may be happening now.

Mark of the Ninja came out. This was amazing on Xbox.

I don't do the imperative often and look down on people who use it but I'm breaking it out here. You folks should take a close look at this one.

It's already on my wishlist. I'll probably pick it up during the Holiday sale.
