Oooh, The Witcher's good stuff.

Both of 'em.
Yeah, it took me an hour or two to get into it, but now I'm really digging it. It's definitely challenging w/out getting TOO frustrating. The only thing that sucks is that I guess it doesn't like something w/my rig, because it keeps crashing every half hour or so. It boots up really fast though, so it's not too big a deal. I went into some forums and read about it and other people said that problem is worst in the first chapter, which I got out of today. It hasn't been as bad since.

While we're hoping for the liberation of various games from the now-dead GFWL, I'm going to add: Batman: Arkham Asylum.

I'd love to be able to activate my retail key on Steam. Get with it, Warner Bros!

Asking for friend invites iz 2 manstraeum. First person (that isn't on my Steam friend list yet) to find me + add me on Steam and state your CAG name gets a free Huntsman: The Orphanage Steam key.

How the hell are you getting so many keys? :p

Also, anyone want to add me, feel free, though I warn you: I'm pretty boring.

The Amazon credit during the free indie game promo worked multiple times for Huntsman and a few other games. I had 3 total. Used one myself and gave 1 away a couple weeks ago.

About XCOM EU. At first when I saw EW I was like "I will totally wait for that and wait for a sale as to not worry about getting EU" Then I see it requires EU I go to "Might as well use GAIKI tech on PS4 to stream it" :dunce: :whistle2:

Anyone have any suggestions on Dear Esther before I play it? I know I'm a little late on my PC games I just bought one last month lol.
Would you like to play an FPS with no shooting, the walking speed of an arthritic old person who is also missing a leg, and lots of monologuing while looking at remarkably impressive scenery? Then Dear Esther is for you.

It's not a bad game for what it is, but it's definitely not very action oriented. Or a proper "game". I look at it more as an interactive walking scenario.

(Seriously, the maps in Dear Esther are just amazing. I had no idea you could pull all that stuff off on the Source engine.)

I have an extra Huntsman key as well. First person to message me on Steam with their favorite color gets it.

It's REALLY not that bad. I think most people that are big fans of scifi RPGs should give it a try, as there aren't many modern scifi rpgs to choose from. Neuro5i5's complaints are definitely valid, but the game still has some redeeming qualities to it (such as the setting/art and atmosphere).
Yeah I'm still looking forward to picking it up eventually, but being careful to keep my expectations in check. Maybe it helps that I played and enjoyed a few hours of the dev's previous game, Of Orcs and Men, and it has just about every problem Neuro listed about Mars: WL. If it hits $2.49 or the Amazon bundle comes back, I'd definitely be interested in giving it a try, keeping its caveats in mind.

Is the Humble Bundle 6$ tier worth the price if I only have Darksiders 2?
I don't see anything worth $6 (or $5 if you're already getting the base tier). Everything besides Darksiders 2 screams "Indie Gala Happy Hour" to me, and unless you expect to play them ASAP I can't say I'd recommend it (maybe not even then considering how lousy most of them look).

This reminds me - I still ain't finished Darksiders 1.

AIn't even began Darksiders 2.
I enjoyed Darksiders quite a bit, though it is almost note for note a carbon copy of Zelda. I almost had to laugh at a few segments because of how obviously they were ripped from Nintendo's evergreen franchise. That said it's certainly a very good clone, and given Zelda doesn't technically exist on PC it fills the void quite nicely. If it means anything to you it took me about 15 hours to beat, so when you have a spare week I'd definitely recommend giving it a go :)

No.

I must exhaust XCOM EU free weekend 1st.
XCOM EU is fantastic; easily one of the best games I've played in the last five (maybe more) years! I strongly urge anyone that hasn't already to give it a go during the free weekend, even if you aren't traditionally a strategy game player (I'm not, for the record). It completely surprised me in every way and if I had to choose one simply based on the quality of its gameplay, it would almost certainly take GOTY for 2012 from me. Get on it! ^_^

Plus, XCOM EW is coming soon.
Just so you know, Enemy Within is releasing as Enemy Unknown DLC on PC, so one way or another you'll need to grab it first.

{hums the Metro 2033 game theme}
I can't even remember Metro 2033 having a theme, let alone enough to hum it. But then again I didn't particularly care for the game, so it's not too surprising.

You're going to have to contend with me for those bottom spots, as my pinball ineptitude is known city-wide.
You want to fight over the bottom rank you better be ready to compete with me :joystick: :fridge:

Also, anyone want to add me, feel free, though I warn you: I'm pretty boring.
How can you say that when you are my real life guide to Terraria? You cool dog fox ;)

Anyone have any suggestions on Dear Esther before I play it? I know I'm a little late on my PC games I just bought one last month lol.
I've only played the first chapter, but honestly I'm not sure what there is to suggest. It's pretty much fool proof as it (to the extent I played) places no constraints on you and lets you go at completely your pace. If howlongtobeat is to be believed I'd set aside an 1-1.5 hours and just do it in one sitting. It seems like the type of game that would have much less of an impact if you left it half way and came back later. I'll probably replay the first chapter again when I decide to finish it just to avoid this.

I must be missing the logic here :whistle2:k

Agreed - everything from puzzle similarities to item collections to dungeons, etc. That must be a big reason I like it though, because Zelda is one of my favorite game franchises.

Not to mention
the part where you battle your shadowself, or the end game triforce sword shard fetch quest.
. Pretty much take Ocarina of Time/Twilight Princess, and replace the characters and locations with sudo-religious figures, and that's Darksiders in a nutshell ;)

But GTA 5 is the perfect game. Flawless. 10/10. Nothing compares. Blah blah blah. Whatever else the reviewers can garble out with Rockstar's nuts in their mouths.

FlyLo FM is in GTA V.

GTA V is the perfect-fucking game; please trust me.

I must be missing the logic here :whistle2:k
My logic is very off-kilter when I'm tired. My logic is that i can wait for the PS4 to have streaming tech and hopefully cheap prices on old games to stream. I'm a pansy with my PC, I'm afraid it will overheat if it's running slightly loud. Anywho, I'll probably pick it up eventually, maybe on an Amazon bundle.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Hmmm is it like scary like pop-ups and what not? Other than that the story didn't seem too bad.
It's not scary at all. It's a guy, walking around an island, exploring it, with lots of monologuing.

Some of the stuff the guy says, though? It'll give you some damn huge feels, to use the phrase that kids these days like to use.

I'm afraid mine'll run loudly if it overheats.

Also, I didn't know purple hoods are cool with hardcore KKK fundamentalists.

But it will almost certainly still be cheaper on Steam, plus it will look a lot better (trust me, the PS3 version of XCOM is UGLY, and I'm not typically one to complain about console graphics). It's also very unstable, the framerate loves to take a dump every time the slow mow kicks in (ironic in a sense), and overall I just see no reason to buy it over the PC version. Just my $0.02 obviously, but it just doesn't make sense to me to wait for Gaika to eventually arrive when the better version is already available.

Added you all!

Now let the Group Invite spamming commence!
I added no one.

Do you guys actually chat/hangout in any group chats? I know the CAG chat is usually empty. I never got around to asking Spoony for a BGCQ invite.

I didn't have any issues with the camera or FOV though, but then again I'm usually not picky about FOV. I'm not really understanding your issues with the camera, that sounds like how it'd be in any other game? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you're explanation.
Maybe it's just the games I play, but I'm used to having the camera follow my back while moving and especially in combat. And I admit, that I do prefer a wide FOV. I'll go as wide as possible and stop just short of a fisheye effect. In addition the camera's been doing weird things on me when something is at my back. Anytime I've been in combat and I've been attacked on my backside (hehe) the camera wants to zoom in at a weird angle. I try to turn and attack back, but the subject is out of view, so I'm forced to either roll forward to gain space (assuming there isn't already a threat in front of me) or slooooowly pan the camera either in a direction I can roll or pan to the threat to counter attack. This is sort of what I mean.

It's not a deal breaker, but it's just another one of those little things. This game really doesn't have anything terribly wrong with it, but it does have lots of little things keeping the sum from being greater than its parts.

I see. Well your $.02 are well appreciated, especially if that is 1/50 of a bottom tier humble bundle. Thank you. I will have to see about a cheap steam option, but not right now. I need to amass more card money. Then we'll talk XCOM, then we'll talk

PCGAMER: Terraria 2 announced, creator wants to include “infinite worlds”

Listen, Terraria fans. I don’t want to rush you, but that giant patch you received a few days ago? You might not have the eternity to enjoy it that you previously assumed. Terraria’s creator, Andrew ‘Redigit’ Spinks, has revealed that he’s working on a sequel to the side-scrolling craft-’em-up, and despite some core similarities to the first game, he’s teasing “infinite worlds” to be explored.

[...]

Not that development on Terraria: The First has finished just yet. While Spinks isn’t planning anything on the scale of 1.2, he does want to finish the endgame progression within the next couple of months, as well as work on a possible Halloween update.

Maybe Bioshock day will be a little more interesting to you then.

edit: Nevermind. That was premature. All Bioshock 2 owners apparently get Minerva's Den so there's nothing to buy. Sorry. :)

sweet was gonna post this, but unfortunately didn't get off work till 9 hours after it was posted on Steam, now I can finally play this without losing my save file to corruption again.
aclayton **CORRECTION!**

I happened to see this post asking the same thing about the 1+2+2xST $5.77 Runner Franchise pack in the Steam forums, which suggests that this is actually one of those rare packs.. I just bought it, and can verify that if you already own the 1st Runner game, you *do* receive a giftable copy of it. (the original post suggests it's only if you buy the pack as a gift, but it definitely works if straight-up buying the pack for yourself) I suspect this is a glitch in the way the pack was configured, since you do get the standard "you own these specific games of the pack and won't receive extra copies" warnings as you buy it. You don't get an extra copy of the Soundtrack DLC (which I owned also), only the base Runner 1 game.

The Runner sale continues through tomorrow for anyone interested. As penance for my earlier misinformation, I'm offering up my extra giftable copy of Runner 1, PM me. (please, someone who is interested in this great game and will actually play it yourself, not use for sale/trade fodder) (edit: gone!)

Aside: I mostly lurk around here but follow the thread regularly, would welcome populating my Steam friends list - me. I won't bug you, just like to see what people are playing.

I loved XCOM, it's definitely not for everyone. If you liked games like FF tactics or Civ 4/5 I'm sure you will like this game.

Beat the game on Iron Man, on the second to last difficulty (that shit is stupidly difficult.) Hope you enjoy the game though.

As for achievements, I used to hunt those things like crazy on the 360. Now that I just game on the PC, I try to get them for certain games, but I rarely worry about 100%. After 471 hours of Civ V, I have 270/287 achievements.

A 2K Humble Bundle would/could/should be incredible! Oh, and speaking of cards, XCOM has them I see *strokes fingers together*

I don't care what they do with Terraria 2, or if they completely abandon Terraria 1, but calling it Terraria: The First is just plain silly :fridge:

How about calling the sequel TerrariaOne?

Can anyone recommend the older XCom games, or are they not worth it?

Apparently they are still great strategy games, but extremely difficult ones at that. So depending on your patience, that's likely to determine how much you get out of them.

Hmmm. I like strategy games, but I'm not the best at them. I'll probably play through EU and if I really need more I can buy the pack next time it's on sale. They'd probably end up in my backlog for who knows how long anyway.

EU has a lot of content and enough difficulty levels to seriously kick your ass.

It's a lot more accessible than the earlier games, but it isn't necessarily dumbed down.

Unless you have a nostalgic tie to the original games you're probably fine sticking with EU.

If you really find yourself loving it and want to see the older stuff in action, the classic pack is on sale all the time for $3.75-$5.00.

It's not an easy fix (in fact it looks like a total pain in the ass as you'll probably just have to play around with the values until you hit what you're looking for), but that thread gives instructions on how to tweak the FOV, which if it's bothering you might be useful.

I hadn't truly experienced how crappy DRM can be until I tried playing Batman AA. For some reason I can't get my GFWL account sync'd before playing the game. I can play the game, but can't save my progress.
Not sure if someone mentioned this already but it appears they may be patching GFWL out of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City GOTY editions. This guy has been watching those two games plus Bioshock 2. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=619976 Unfortunately my Arkham City is not the GOTY edition. :(
