anyone here following the Dota 2 International championships? I checked out the very first match of the tournament (Na'Vi vs Orange) and I have been hooked ever since, I don't even like playing Dota 2 but watching the pros play the game is so much fun. Last nights' match between Na'Vi and TongFu was just spectacular, watching Dendi land all of those hooks with Pudge to win the game, simply amazing.

Can you simulate the ineptitude that lead to the recent spate of train tragedies?

^ That's just awesome. The only CAG I've come across in the card market is spoderman and multiple times. Coincidence? Random? Who knows...

~~~~~~~~~~~~
On another note: I'm extremely tempted to buy The Swapper @ $7.49, but the CAG in me is saying wait until it's $4.99.
Did anyone get it with the Soundtrack? Any good?
I come across Spoder, Idiot, Fox, and a few others quite often.
Oh yeah, I forgot to list spoderman. Actually, I just remember seeing him selling something. That's it.
Anyone tried playing Saints Row 2 recently? I'm thinking about getting that Deep Silver bundle for it. From what I read you need several mods to make it run properly, particularly a speed fix if you're on Windows Vista or 7 and your CPU isn't 3.2GHz.
I ran it earlier this year on my 3.2 GHz Phenom II X3 and GTX 260 just fine. I think Idiot and a couple others have run it recently as well.
IdolNinja made modding it really idiotproof.
It's quite a blast. If you liked SR3, I'd highly recommend SR2.
Yeah, modding it is pretty easily. Not the easiest game to run though, it's optimized like shit. You'll have to tweak the hell out of your graphics options, and I recommend using SweetFX > the game's HDR and AA and whatever else you can replace. Even if you get it running nice at 60 FPS, the game will say "fuck you" constantly dropping back to 30 FPS.
Still playable and fun though.
Sounds like it's not worth the hassle for someone like me who has played it on PS3 before. The $1 price is tempting and I'm kind of in Saints Row hype mode over 4 coming out. I was ready to buy it but if the frame rate is taking a crap even after tweaking it... maybe I'll skip it. Working on my backlog is a better idea.
Maybe. PS3 is always 30 FPS anyways though on that game, isn't it? It still looks better on PC, it's just a bit of a hassle.
Has always worked fine for me unmodded. And you definitely do not need several mods, just one, and only if you have problems. I think part 2 is far better than 3 in turns of settings, story, characters, plot, and music. It picks up after the end of part 1, but you can just read a wiki for a synopsis of part 1 before playing.
That game was a nightmare on PS3, performance and graphics were terrible.
Heck, it's only $1, maybe I'll go for it after all. And think of all the good Red Cross can do with that money.
In that case, yeah, pick it up. The game only pisses me off a bit because I hate 30 FPS, but a lot of people don't even care.
Unrealted, having a really hard time not using cards money to pick up Guacamelee now. Everything I read about it when it came out on the PS3 made me lament the whole PS3 exclusive thing, and now it's on Steam, and still looks excellent and I have cards money clearing burning a hole in the Steam wallet. Also I don't have Mutant Blobs Attack, not that I really want it, but it's making the prospect even "cheaper".
Guacamelee is incredible. I bought it full price for Vita when it was released, and until Dragon's Crown it was definitely my favorite game on the system.... okay, okay, some people may say that's not saying much when it comes to vita but hear me out :)
I've played several "Metroidvania" type games over the last couple years, but Guacamelee definitely takes the cake for me. The only other game of this genre I might have liked more was the 3DS Dawn of Sorrow... but Guacamelee is in a league of its own with its crisp art style, simple yet responsive controls, robust melee combat (which gets deeper and deeper as the game goes on), and fun story that never takes itself too seriously. As is normal with this genre, you receive abilities and powers that allow you to open up other secrets and paths as you progress in the game, but Guacamelee fuses these "path-busters" with gameplay so that they become essential and fun for combat itself. I can't remember any other such game that even had a "training room" of sorts with fighting game style combo challenges.
The platforming and boss fights become harder and harder, but never frustrating; some of the most devious challenges are left for the secret orbs which are not essential to beat the game, but are there for those looking for them. I also immediately restarted the game after I beat it so I could play it on hard and had fun the entire time during my 2nd playthrough.
Guacamelee isn't too long, but I never felt I didn't get my money's worth. After having just beaten Dust: An Elysian Tail, I was shocked at how much praise critics gave this game, as I thought the gameplay never really became deeper as the game progressed, the "path busters" were mostly just ways to scale walls and open up pillars which did not affect combat at all, and the story, voice acting and art style almost completely made me want to gag. Do we really need more existential fanfic style plots that take themselves too seriously, with all the melodrama intended for a high school play?
Oh yeah, I let my friend borrow my Vita for a weekend to play Guacamelee. He bought his own vita shortly thereafter so he could own the game. :hot:
Yeah, buckled like a belt. Between $5 in cards in money, Mutant Blobs, the unCAGly 10% discount and the fact that I know I'll play through it before it gets cheaper allows me to justify the purchase. Definitely glad to read more glowing praise for it.
With regards to Dust, I played a bit of it when I picked it up during the Summer sale, need to get back to it, (got distracted by Tomb Raider which was way better than it had any right to be) but I think it's an impressive accomplishment for what it is. It's not a perfect game by any stretch but in the context of an almost entirely one man effort with very little "retro" visual aesthetic I liked it. It feels a little like Odin's Sphere with with somewhat less depth.
What are you comparing to Odin Sphere? Guacamelee or Dust? (I freaking love Odin Sphere.)
Cheers to that. I absolutely loved Odin Sphere as well, putting way too many hours into that game so I could unlock all endings and paths.
It's sad that no other Vanillaware game has enthralled me in quite the same way. Muramasa became much too repetitive for me, Grim Grimoire seemed too imprecise for a real time strategy game, and I couldn't understand much of Princess Crown haha. All games had great art style, but there's something about Odin Sphere's intricately woven plot that synergized so well with its beautiful art style.
I really wish this Odin Sphere would come out on Vita so I could enjoy it without the lag that plagued the PS2 version.
About Dust, I do think it's remarkable that one guy basically made the whole game, but I need to separate myself from that and merely ask if I enjoyed the game. I didn't, and sometime I felt the critical reviews spoke too much about the game's origins than its final outcome. I also disagree that the game was similar to Odin Sphere with less depth as the plot reeked of high school fan fiction, the character designs were horrible, and there was no deep metagame like OS had (not even speaking toward the shallow gameplay, which you've already mentioned).
Anyway, enough rant from me. I guess I should have gone in with much lower expectations :)
Okay, seriously, what's the word on PAC-MAN™ Championship Edition DX+? Will those pre-order bonuses be available on their own later? How many maps are there? Is it possible to kill-screen? Is that an actual Pac-Mania mode or is it just a skin? Is there an option to play the classic game? Does Namco still exist? Will Mind Link be able to play this without an erection?
I think I'm going to grab it as well. I'm going to play it right away and, if you think about it, you're getting two games for $13.49 (MSRP $22 combined and that works out to around 40% off)..
Gamespot just gave Guacamelee an 8/10 and Mutant Blobs Attack got an 83 Metacritic score, so there look to be two strong games in the package. Guacamelee has Steam Workshop support, which is almost always a plus.
The only downside I can see (besides not being 75% off) is that co-op is local. That's kinda weak.
Thanks to Enhanced Steam, I can see Mutant Blob was $1.99 less than a month ago. I shall wait.
Thanks jshackles!!
What's with the "Metroidvania" term? I've never looked it up.
Metroid originated that style of gameplay, followed by Metroid 2 for the Gameboy, and then Super Metroid descended from the heavens and blessed each and every one of us and is now considered a possible G.O.A.T.
And then Castlevania started doing it.
Either I'm a dead-wrong dick or Castlevania is copping half the credit despite merely sampling the Metroid formula.
I think... I think it might be the greatest videogame ever made.
I'm gonna play it and I'll be caressing my :oldman: :oldman: the whole time so yes.
Yeah, I don't really like the term either, but it's a pretty established word for a particular genre. You're right, Metroid obviously started the "open 2d world with shortcuts and areas and abilities gated by obtaining said abilities" and in my personal opinion, its pinnacle was reached in the almighty Super Metroid. However, I think a lot of people fell in love with this genre with Symphony of the Night (another all-time classic) with its mix of Super Metroid exploration and RPG customization and story. I know my favorite gaming podcast (Idle Thumbs) likes to term this mash-up as "Castroid" rather than "Metroidvania" but both sound silly to me :)
I suppose Guacamelee is more of a Metroid style than a Metroidvania mash-up since there are no RPG elements to speak of.
It's a good game but it plays pretty different from the original. I bought it on PSN for $10 and I was pretty happy with it.
I'm sure they'll sell the preorder stuff later but it's Namco so probably overpriced. The Pac-Mania is just a skin, you can change the characters and the maze visuals. They also have the original arcade sprites, Pac-Man Arranged, the Atari version, and I think there was a Vectrex-looking one.
I guess my expectations were lower, despite some of the raves it got on these forums when it came up for sale. I can't fault you for not liking the character designs, they certainly aren't particularly good, kind of like what a middle-school furry would draw in a lot of ways which is a bit off putting. The question is can you forgive those for the otherwise lushly drawn environments.
I'll say the shallow Odin's Sphere comparison was probably a bit too high praise for it in effort to get a more common reference point... probably more along the lines of shallow Muramasa, either way Vanillaware definitely seems to be what the creator was attempting to emulate with the game. It's not on their level certainly, but it's not a bad game. It would be a good BTA bundle seller, and a I think a safe buy for anyone at 75% off.
Been playing Guacamelee for the last couple hours and I can easily say it's worth full price. The game/internet references thrown in are well executed and so far hilarious. The gameplay is tight, and the platforming elements are challenging enough to evoke something like Meat Boy without ever really being so challenging as to be frustrating or annoying (thanks again to the spot-on controls). Also it's a great palette cleanser after Tomb Raider. Remember Me was hard to pick back up after TR as Remember Me's flaws just seemed that much more glaring afterward.
Does Skyrim support Steam Gamble?
Tomb Raider is QTE-rific, but it's still excellent. I find myself bored with the combat oftentimes though. It's nice but it gets repetitive (and a little unrealistic as Lara takes 20 bullets to the chest and 3 arrows to the knee and keeps burning through baddies). Still, best new gen "cinematic" game I've played, great voice acting, kick ass graphics, etc.
Well might as well be a voice of opposition and say I completely adored Dust. Loved the story, art was gorgeous, and the combat felt really satisfying. Obviously some of this is subjective and I can understand how some would find the story heavy handed, but to me it was great and I really hope there is a sequel.
I haven't played Guacamelee yet, but Mutant Blobs was fantastic! It's rather short, but otherwise I haven't a thing to knock it for. Very charming and it doesnt follow the trend of alienating players who don't want an extreme challenge. Highly recommend picking it up ^_^
I still can't believe how one can destroy a game like Realms of Arkania (I'm talking about the most recent remake). I really wanted it to be good. Granted I ain't played it, but read Motoki's opinions and others through Internet... and I'm very disappointed. The original RoA series are games I really treasure from my best gaming years and I consider them on my top RPG games of all times.
I'm saying all this because I went to the store page and saw this:
It's really a joke.
