I went to the nutritionist on recommendation from the doctor due to hormone imbalances. The diet is supposed to help stabilize hormones and keep blood sugar at a constant level. It's similar to the south beach and diabetic diets but I don't need to watch fat or sodium within reason. The things I need to pay attention to are good carbs vs bad carbs, sugar, fiber and protein. There's nothing I "can't" eat. I'm supposed to stay away from white foods (white flour, sugar, pasta, rice, potatos) and check the sugar versus fiber content on carbs. I can have whole grain bread/pasta, brown rice, red skin potatos, and agave nectar as a sugar substitute. Every meal is supposed to have a serving of protein. I'm allowed to have my favorite meal or dessert once a week, so if I'm craving something 'bad' I can have it. The thing is, after eating 6 small meals a day for so long, when you try to have that massive plate of steak fries, you just really can't eat it. For the most part there are only 3 or 4 foods that I really enjoy that I shouldn't have. Various forms of potato (depends on the day), corn chips, breaded chicken, and italian bread/french rolls are the usual suspects but I can rotate them as the favorite meal once a week.
