Original Target Clearance Thread

Since the Target deals are usually of the "your mileage may vary" type, let's keep all the target clearance deals in this thread.

Here is a fairly easy way to check if your local Target has the games on clearance without making the store clerk unlock the display case and price-scan a bunch of games. Very often, games may be on sale, but will not be marked as such.

BigDirty came up with this nice time saver. Respect his cheap ass skills.

1) Check this thread for games that have been reported on clearance.

2) Go to www.half.com, http://bits.com/ or similar website and search for the game to locate its UPC code number. Its in the grey box underneath the box art graphic.

3) Go to http://upcdata.info/ , www.milk.com/barcode/ , or www.upcdatabase.com and enter the code so you can print out the UPC.

4) Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts and search for cheap ass deals!

FYI: "When a game's price ends with 8 cents, further reduction is possible, when it ends in 4 cents, that's the ball game, pick it up cause it's not going any lower. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction." - BigDirty

Games that do not sell after being discounted are often donated to local Goodwills for sale at their retail stores, so check there when the clearance items dissappear.

This thread is for Clearance deals, not sale items or raincheck "scams"
Please Post City, State and Store (If City has many stores), game, system and price

Keep extraneous discussion to a minimum, as posts not pretating to clearance deals may be deleted by the mod crew.

As always-- YMMV

Example:

Philadelphia, PA Snyder Plaza
BigDirty's Wild Ride, XBox, $4.98

*Thanks to CheapyD and BigDirty for the info*

Keep it on topic or your post may be deleted to prune down the thread size.

Picked up Condemned: Criminal Origins for the PC at my local Target (Mishawaka, IN) for 14.98.

The also had a western digital external 250 GB HD for 104.98. Also a 40 GB travel hard drive (can't remember which brand) for 69.98.

Doom 3 and a few other PC games were down to $9.xx at mine. They had a WD External HD 320 GB marked clearance for $104.xx but apparently someone just moved the sticker from something else to that. Pretty bummed that didn't go through. Not a console game to be found though.
So do Target Clearances vary by store now, it's been a while since I have followed this thread?
Usually the exact pricing and timing of the drops varies, but the game selection on clearance is usually pretty consistent. This is the first time I've ever seen such a huge selection of games go on clearance at some stores and then drop multiple times while the clearance is nowhere to be found at others. That is very odd. I still need to get out there today to see if they finally started at my store. Unbelievable on the Kameo at $8. Wow... According to the store locator web site that game isn't even available at 10+ Targets near me, let alone on clearance (which it isn't according to UPC scan).

If anyone sees an extra Chicken Little for Wii for $10 please consider picking it up for me. I still want to see what happens at my store but with this looking more and more YMMV than usual I may have to go that route ;) - willing to trade now for stuff on my list or wait a few weeks for cash (as I still may be able to get it, just later than other stores).

Yeah, I am starting to wonder if the Target clearance is on its way to becoming YMMV

This clearance cycle has been maddening to say the least. Things like :ds: Mario 64, :wii: Chicken Little, or :360: Kameo being reported here at under $10 but still full price at other stores. And it is not just limited to video games either...

Woe be the day when Target Clearances become more like Wal-Mart clearances:cold::cold:

The Targets with the smaller game cases clearance out the 360 and Wii games. The newer ones (especially the Super Targets) have enough shelf room that they don't need to be moving out stock to clear space for new ones. At least that's the pattern I notice here locally.

Do some games never get clearanced out at Target? I was watching Okami and Valkyrie Profile2 at both targets in my town, but they just disappeared without ever getting marked down or clearanced.

Hmmm... Well, that's an interesting observation. Of course, ALL the Target's near me remodeled and expanded their game sections when the 360 came out a year ago and they tend to have more than enough space for the games they have now. In fact, many have huge empty areas in their cases. Well, damn... In that case, I'd definitely appreciate anyone snagging (a $10) Chicken Little for the Wii or any sub-$10 360 games ;).

And erehwon, I'd say most games never go on clearance at Target - it is always just select titles. You can never count on any single game being part of it.

Picked up a Wii sling today for a little over $12. Couldn't find any X360 titles anywhere. And at my local stores the Wii clearance hasn't started yet, maybe next week. Too bad I don't want any of that stuff until it hits 60% off anyways.
In that case, I'd definitely appreciate anyone snagging any sub-$10 360 games ;)..
Ditto. The demo for Kameo was fun!

Thanks, I remember a couple years ago, some stores might drop their clearance prices faster, but if a game was at clearance at one store it was always clearanced at another.

Anyone with Kameo on clearance near them, pick it up, it is a great underappreciated 360 game.

Well, I can add my voice to the "I sorta believed it, but now I saw it first hand" camp.

I went to San Diego today for other reasons. On the way back, I stopped at three Targets. The first had DS NFS for 14.98, and nothing else. The clearance 360 and Wii games were all full price.

Then I hit the mother lode. Outside of the case, red-tagged in a clearance shelf were:
Wii Chicken Little $27.98
Wii Billy and Mandy $34.98
Wii Monster 4x4 $34.98
360 Kameo $19.98
360 Arcade Unplugged $19.98
360 Dead or Alive Something or Other $14.98? I think. That or 19.98.
and also Table Tennis -- didn't check price.

Unfortunately, these Wii prices are all more than I'd pay. And I surely won't be back when and if they drop. It was nice to see, but I left empty handed.

Stopped at the third Target. They had Wii Billy and Mandy out of the glass case in with the cheapo games and it scanned at 49.99. Ouch. The rest of the usual suspects were behind the glass cases, like everywhere around me, totally not on clearance.

I had to console myself with DS Danny Phantom for 9.99.

The second Target definitely had less glass-case space, so that must be the determining factor. Nearly all the Targets around me redid their electronics areas last fall before the PS3 and the Wii, so they all have enough space and don't need to clearance the games.

Well, I finally went back to my Target with the spacious and 1/4 empty glass cases. As expected, none of those Wii and 360 games were on sale.

On the plus side, the VJ DS game I hid a few weeks back was still there and rang up $3.74 now (down from $7.48). NFS Carbon for DS was a still much too high $14.98. Should that go to $7.48 I might get it. The Danny Phantom I hid was gone (but it must have been found by another customer because the other 2 games were still in the same place ;)).

NOTHING else on clearance except for MLB 2K6 for PS2 for $9.98. A big meh on that one... Lots of PC stuff on clearance but nothing really cheap.

I did snag a Pirates of the Caribbean accessory kit (sword, bandana, compass, stickers, tattoos, etc) for my kids for all of $2.74. So between that and the VJ it wasn't a total waste. I also returned a 3/4 used box of the recalled pet food and got full price back for it (actually it wasn't strictly within the recall numbers but it was close enough that I didn't want to feed them any more of it). Our cats did get violently ill a month or so ago resulting in $500+ in vet bills (they all seem to be OK now though 2 now have kidney issues). I'm not happy about that :bomb:.

I went to 3 local TARGETs and found nothing of interest. Did see:

1 GB sandisk card $39.99
Splinter cell DA PC $9.98
DOOM III PC $9.98
Chicken Little Wii $19.98
Marvel UA PSP $29.99
Ant Bully Wii $20.98
Wii Dog tags and pins $12.98
Wii Billy and Mandy $34.98
Various Wii sling bags $12.98-$17.98
NFS Carbon for DS $20.98
Zelda Wii Messenger bag $29.99

Wanted:

Wii Monster 4x4 $34.98

Target (Skillman & Northwest Hwy) in Dallas, TX had about 10 Viewtiful Joe DS games on the bottom shelf behind a cardboard holder for crappy GBA Barbie, Cuddle Bear, etc. games!!!

I scanned the VJ DS game and it was not found in the system (Great ). I asked a sales associate for help and she told me to find a similar item and go up to the cash registers up front with both games and I would receive the price of the other game. All other endcap DS games scanned in at 14.99, but there was a Glory Road UMD Video that scanned in at $9.99!! So I was able to get VJ DS for $10. :D

As much as that is cool its been going fo r abut $5 regularly.... I still need a copy as I cant find one here but..

I went back to my local Target and they still had 17 copies of Kameo left. I picked up a few extra copies for anyone that wants one.

If it's DOA4, the MSRP for that seems to have dropped down to $29.99, though DOA: XBV2's MSRP seems to still be around $60.

I swear I have the worst target. I brought in upcs and scanned them and everygame I had listed was ringing up at full retail!

1 GB sandisk card $39.99
Splinter cell DA PC $9.98
DOOM III PC $9.98
Chicken Little Wii $19.98
Marvel UA PSP $29.99
Ant Bully Wii $20.98

In addition to that saw Splinter Cell DA for GC for $19.99 is that universal? I dunno.

I still have two Kameo's left if anybody wants them. I may only have one, waiting for decision on one. Now, I am going to be near Target tonight. 10 more on the shelf, might pick them up.

I know there are a few people here who go to the north bergen/edgewater Targets, are there any 360/wii games? there were none at the Target greatland in Clifton.
Today at Target I saw:

Wii Poker: 9.98 (bought both & traded to EB for SSX)
Chicken Little 19.98
Billy & Mandy 24.98
Wii Tin 12.48
That's what I was wanting to do... Nab a couple of cheap next gen games at Target and trade them in on the 2 for 1 Gamestop deal. Unfortunately my Target has not marked the Wii or 360 games down yet.

My Targets have absolutely no 360 clearance games (I've been to 6 so far - zilch!)

I did pick up the Monster Truck 4x4 with steering wheel for the Wii for $24.98 though.

Now I just need a Wii...

Looking for the Super Mario 64 DS and Need for Speed Carbon DS!!! Dammit!

Super Mario 64 DS really is YMMV though. I was actually at Target and overheard someone ringing one up just yesterday. Much to my disappointment it was regular price.

I just hope The Sims 2 for DS wasn't YMMV, they may still have that at my local Target. If it wasn't YMMV it's probably out of the system by now, though.
Looking for the Super Mario 64 DS and Need for Speed Carbon DS!!! Dammit!
I bought a total of 19 copies of Kameo. After sitting there at $20 for a week. On Tuesday there was 19 at $7.48, which I bought 2 of. 3 days later, the 17 was still there. Maybe because this store is in the middle of Amish country, may have helped. I have sold 9 of these to fellow CAGers and kept 3 for myself (1 for me and 2 for trade). So, I still have 7 up for sale. If not I will return them.
I scored:

Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth (360) - $14.98
Tomb Raider Legend (360) - 14.98

Cherry Hill, NJ

- Ray
I'll trade you a Kameo for TRL.

Yeah, so of course I went out tonight (after buying one from you) and finally found a Target in my metro area with the clearance. The good news was Kameo was still $20.98. I hid it and imagine I will be able to pick it up for $7.48 eventually. I probably ought to still get the one from you because it may not drop at this store or it may not still be there (there was only one copy).

Wierd thing was none of the other 360 games were on clearance (had my UPC sheet). The Wii games were, however, on clearance and best of all there were NO tags on them (and they were still locked up). I picked up a Chicken Little for $19.98 and fully expect I'll be able to go back there next week or the week after and get it for $9.98 (they had lots).

how do you hide things when Target has cameras all over? i would imagine somebody sees you hiding something in a monitor and tells somebody at the store to check that area. just curious
how do you hide things when Target has cameras all over? i would imagine somebody sees you hiding something in a monitor and tells somebody at the store to check that area. just curious
It's possible. Things do get found all the time. I just carry them with me and when I find a good place just pretend I'm looking at something and slip it behind some other product. I don't *expect* them to be there when I go back, but it is a bonus if they are. The problem is Target shuffles their inventory around CONSTANTLY so it is hard to find a place where anything will last more than a few days. Really, it seems like they do it to keep their employees busy or something ;).

I guess as long as you're not hidding it in your coat or pants, they don't really care ;)
Picked up the following lastnight

Prey 4.98
Doom 3 4.98
Viewtiful Joe Double Trouble 7.48
was this prey for pc or 360? doom 3 for box or pc? thz

Finally got Viewtiful Joe for $5. The cashier wasn't sure what to do when it rang up out of system. I told her a friend told me he got it for $4.98 and she just keyed it in. Sweet. This is the same target that had previously tried to sell it to me for $15.
I guess as long as you're not hidding it in your coat or pants, they don't really care ;)
EXACTLY!

They can't stop you for shoplifting if you are just stashing games. They could always kick you out of the store. But if they physically try to detain you for shoplifting when you have nothing on you, sue them for defamation of character.

I don't know about the "hiding" idea. You're sort of stealing from Target in a way, since you're depriving them of the money they might make by selling the item at a higher price.

Apparently the store near me have to keep moving stuff around cos they keep finding clearanced video games in weird places.

Just kidding :)

That would make alot of sense since I cant find the 4x4 Monster Truck w/wheel game in the case or out on an end cap. I did see ONE in 3 TARGETs but it was behind glass and marked $49.99.
Don't count on it being on clearance yet, though. The Wii games still aren't on clearance down here (TX), not even 20%.
they are on clearance in austin. last I checked chicken little was 19.98
Don't count on it being on clearance yet, though. The Wii games still aren't on clearance down here (TX), not even 20%.
Not true.

The Monster 4x4 with steering wheel was down to $24.98 when I got it yesterday, and I've seen several Chicken Little and Barnyard games with the magic red sticker.

It's the 360 and DS games that I can't find on clearance.

Well I just said don't count on it, I didn't say they absolutely won't be on clearance. I had Chicken Little AiA scanned on Wednesday locally and it still came up $49.99. Going to try again Monday, might go by tonight and see if the Sims 2 for DS they had in the case behind the Sims 2 Pets marker is on clearance.

I talked to a Target employee about clearances for a moment last time I was there and she seemed to be aware of (and acknowledged) the fact that clearance prices are activated at different stores at different times. Weird.

I have to assume Prey is for PC, since Doom 3 for PC has been on clearance lately... but yea, I'd like confirmation on this too, because I'd snag Prey for PC for $5.

Granted... I don't go overboard with it though - usually just 1 or 2 things. Oftentimes what happens is they never drop from the tagged price and then when they scan out of the system I just put them back out on the clearance endcap and someone finds a nice tagged clearance game for $7.48 or $9.98 or whatever - they will still sell it for the tagged price. Actually, sometimes the tags are higher than the clearance price was at the time I hid it. So if it goes out of the system in the meantime and then they are able to sell it for the higher tagged price later, I'm actually mking them MORE money.
I don't know about the "hiding" idea. You're sort of stealing from Target in a way, since you're depriving them of the money they might make by selling the item at a higher price.
I almost felt bad that I was "stealing" from Target by hiding items and then I remembered that their own employees do the exact same thing. This may not be universal, but for the Targets in TN and TX I've seen first hand employees stashing newly clearance items. Like tsg2005 eluded to there are cameras everywhere and most likely you'll be spotted, but if I'm fortunate to score cheaper games then I'm all about it.

Well, I would say that more employees steal from companies in general than actual "thieves" so I'm not sure that you can really use that as an excuse...

Still, I'm not trying to get all "holier than thou" or anything. It's just something I was thinking about.

I just found Civil War for 360 for $13 (it didn't have the normal clearance sticker on it, it was an "As Is" sticker).

I also saw Warcraft III Frozen Throne for $5, couple of Civilization games ($10-15) and Dark Messiah: Might and Magic for $25.

The Target is in Hyattsville, MD.
