With blessings from the big man himself...

The Toys R US clearance deals, much like the Target ones, are very YMMV. As a result of that - and the fact that the board is currently littered with TRU clearance sales - it's time to try something new.

The CAG Toys R Us Clearance Thread

The goal is to have this thread modeled after the current Target clearance thread (and its predecessor), so the basic rules are the same...

When posting what you have found, please note the location that you found it at, example:

Philadelphia, PA
Snyder Plaza

Game Name, System, Price

-----
This thread is for Clearance deals, not sale items or raincheck "scams"
Please Post City, State and Store (If City has many stores), game, system and price

Keep extraneous discussion to a minimum, as posts not pretating to clearance deals may be deleted by the mod crew.

-----
If you hunt around through the forums and look for posts by tubtub and benboxer (our resident TRU folk), they've said that any TRU price ending in .98 can be a "variable" price, where one store has it for 5.98, while another has it for 7.98 and another for 3.98. The .98 is a "regional" price, for lack of a better term. Anything ending in .95 and .99 are chain-wide, from what I've seen from them.
That should do it for the first post. Good luck, everyone!
The TRU videogame employee here (who I used to know from working there) told me ANOTHER green tag sale is starting in July, and that games will be 30% off to begin with.

Not sure if it was mentioned before, but I just wanted to give a heads up, since he's usually on top of every deal that goes on there.
Mmmmm....gives me a chance to save up. Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully it comes TRU! (Ok, ok, bad joke!)

Yea, he wasn't sure what games were on there, but just told me it was coming and for me to be ready.

And this was coming from the employee who told me, upon grabbing the baten kaitos case, "if you're looking to get it for 20, all we have is the soundtrack version for 30" and actually helped me find penny guides today, so I trust the source.

Jesus, no! I haven't recovered from the last one yet! ;)

Went to a TRU tonight... got Twisted Metal 3 for 1.50.

The funny thing was Syphon Filter 2 and 3, Twisted Metal 4, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tomb Raider (!!!) were NOT on sale. Kind of bummed, I really wanted to complete my Twisted Metal / Syphon Filter ps one collections, and get FFT for a friend.

Picked up Syphon Filter for $1.50 and Rocket Power:Beach Bandits (GC) for $2

Twisted Metal 3 was in the small 90% off pile near the registers, but I didn't have the cash for it, too.

Man guys, I finally found a TRU close to where I but when I went there, I could not find a single game on a interesting clearance. Even Everquest adventures scaned in a $15 on the little price check kiosks.

And to make matters worse there weren't any copies of R Type Final.

I lose.

But Twisted Metal 3 was only $1.50????

No more copies of $19.99 Star Ocean at my TRU. The sales person there said they haven't gotten a shipment since it first came out and it sold out just after christmas. But it's still in their system so they could be expecting a new shipment sometime in the future.
But Twisted Metal 3 was only $1.50????
I figure that I could go back any time during the next 30 days and still pick it up for $1.50. There were that many of the three green tagged games.

Either we all live on Staten Island or my TRU has the EXACT same thing. Picked up the last Spyro: Rapto's Rage for a buck fifty. I'm never going to play it but why not?

I saw Syphon Filter and Twisted Metal 3 at my local store for $1.50, but just couldn't pull the trigger.

I may go back this week though.

TRU stores are getting in a huge new $14.99 cardboard display(they had one during Christmas that basically advertised $14.99 games). It basically just has a ton of $14.99 games on it, but Mucha Lucha for GBA is on display on it, too. This game is green tag and will ring up for $1.49. Stores got 14 in for the display so you could basically get 10 for the price of one. It should ring up for a few more days until TRU realizes it. GBA Land before Time is also part of the display but they took the game off green tag yesterday, so it now rings regular price, $14.95.

Mucha Lucha GBA? Hmm I not sure if I've ever seen it at my local TRUs but $1.49 for a Double Dragon clone sounds like its worth a look. Thanks tubtub.

Whoa whoa whoa. I love Rokusho and have always wanted Metabee. I'll have to check this out.

Hmm no luck for me on finding a Mucha Lucha today. Checked 2 TRUs but I still have 2 more to check. If someone could score me one it would be appreciated. I did get a Syphon Filter but passed on Twisted Metal 3 since they had so many. I'll pick it up on one of those days where I'm itching to buy something.

I got Gran Turismo 2 for 70 cents a few days ago, but at the time, all the other PS1 games (there were only a couple left...Tomb Raider, some budget stuff, that's about it) were still full price (~$10 range). Maybe they'll drop at some point. I'll take a look at the stuff you mentioned, mcgavin27.

Too bad you weren't in store when the stuff showed up. My friends and I made a killing. Tarzan was also in that shipment...it was green tagged but was changed the same day that Land Before Time was. But no big deal about Land Before Time, I've scored plenty with that title since we've been getting atleast 3 a week for that last 6 weeks.

Look out next time value software shows up. Corporate is so stupid.

picked up:

Mucha Lucha GBA $1.49
Primal $1.50 PS2 (surprised they had this)
Guilty Gear X2 $3.00 PS2 (Even more surprised)
NCAA 2k3 XBOX $1.50 (is this even worth it for trade fodder?)

Nice, I want to find something like that in store, it doesn't even have to be cheap (talking about GGX2).

Was this a green tag item on your receipt or was it just the clearance price?
Guilty Gear X2 is green tagged, I saw it for $15 back when the green tags were at 50% off.
yeah, it was green tagged at $30 here + 90% off = $3.00

forgot to use the 20% off coupon (I HAD IT IN MY POCKET)... could have saved another $0.60... :(

The TRU employee told me there were more green tagged games that just aren't tagged green. But he didn't know which ones they were.

I'm thinking there's more cheap games to be had.

BTW - i know this is slightly off topic -- does FYE take GBA games... i bought a Mucha Lucha but i dont have a GBA (altho my nephew does). TIA

I was surprised to see a few green tagged items put out at one of the stores near me recently. I got the following:
Twisted Metal 3 (PS1) for $1.50
Scion volume 2 comic on DVD for 40 cents
Negation vloume 2 comic on DVD for 40 cents

They also had Syphon Filter (PS1) for $1.50, but I didn't get it since I already own a copy.

Zon27, I sent you a PM a little while back, and I never heard back from you. Could you please PM me?

you'll probably have to ask specifically for it...it seems that no store has merchandised it yet.

Yes, FYE will take GBA games. I think that Mucha Lucha gets about $7.50 or so (you can check on wherehouse.com).

You get $17 in credit at Blockbuster with the extra $5.

Assuming that you've got a Blockbuster that does trade-ins...all we've got where I live is Rhino Video Games (also owned by Blockbuster) and their trade-in prices aren't nearly as generous as Gamerush.

Rhino may be more generous than you think. They have a 2-for-1 trade (trade 2 used GBA games for one new one) that works with the majority of GBA games.

Edit: Forgot to mention, max value of the new game is $29.99, so if you want a $34.99 game, you have to kick in an extra $5.

I printed out the UPC for Mucha Lucha, didn't find it yesterday but the UPC scanned for $1.49, today I tried another Toys R Us, the UPC scanned for $14.95 but they didn't have it anyway, but it looks like it's taken off green tag

It's definitely off green tag. I was at Signal Hill, Ca and they had one so I bought it for $1.49, but today at cerritos it was $14.95 and they had tons of them. Also Rocket Power Beach Bandits is no longer green tag either.

It sounds like anything with a value game sticker that was green tagged isn't green tagged anymore then, I wonder if R: Racing Evolution for Gamecube is also off green tag as well too since that was also a value game display game (I haven't seen it in months anyway)

Hey, thanks!

I've done their 2-for-1 deal on `regular games', but didn't know that they also did it for the GBA. I traded in the Land Before Time Collection and X2: Wolverine's Revenge for a nice new copy of The Minish Cap. =) Before the bonus, I would have only gotten $11 for both together.

All the Value games are basically no longer green tag. Today Mucho Lucha, a bunch of PS1 games(Twisted Metal 3, Syphon Filter 1, CrashWarped, and a few others), and XB ATV 2 were taken off. Rocket Power was taken off a few days ago, the same day as GBA Land Before Time.

Thanks for the update tubtub. I'm so happy now that I did buy Twisted Metal 3 and Syphon Filter when I had the chance last Saturday. Saw that they were still green tagged so I brought them up to the register and they came up for 1.50.

Wow... TRU is alot dumber than I thought, as a company.

This is probably the first time in years that they've sold copies of Twisted Metal 3 and Syphon Filter.. why take them off?
Can we lock this up? I can start a new thread...

Edit: or in the least change the name of the thread...?
Yea, i think its almost time to start a Summer 2005 thread.

gotta love those TRU deals... picked up extras of Twisted Metal 3, Morrowind, Syphin Filter, Beach Bandits, and a few penny guides (the extras I had to hide since my TRU is anal about removing them... suprised to see a few of them still there)

anyway... my total was about 9 bucks, I then went to my local game exchange, and traded them in on a mint GCN copy of POP2, and NES carts Ghouls & Ghosts, and volleyball

pretty good deal I must admit

Since we're on page 20, I wouldn't mind someone making a new thread when we get to 25, or if someone wants to start fresh now, I'm all for that.

Just let me or one of the other mods know.

did u pick these up today -- and what system is the beach bandits for and how much was it? TIA

I got my first ever target clearance deal in lansing, michigan. I got the gba classis nes series castlevania for 4.98. One copy left in store. Its seems bizzare though that ice climber is still full price....

I don't know if this was clearanced or regular price, but I found Xenosaga at the Quail Toys 'R' Us for $5.xx. Managed to get it for $5.18 using the 20% off coupon.

They had a whole section with ps2 games for $20 or less, but most of them didn't have price tags. There were a couple La Pucelle Tactics for $19.
I went to the Oklahoma City Super Target near Quail Springs and they had several clearanced PC games including at least 8 copies each of Max Payne, Mafia, and Hitman 2 for $2.48. These were the jewel case versions, and would be a good deal if you missed out on the Maximum Underworld set from EB.
zebra, have you seen ANYTHING at ANY of the OKC toysrus? i have looked and looked and haven't found jack at quail, crossroads or norman....

any other local deals you know of? was able to pick up three 1.99 games at circuit city a few weeks ago but haven't found anymore there...
