The "Wii is sold out and it totally sucks because I don't have one" thread
That doesn't make sense. Why would they hold them out for Black Friday? You are going to have TONS of people in your store anyways which leads to them buying other stuff. You don't need these systems to drive people into your stores on Black Friday.
Boost sales numbers.Hold back 12 systems and you're store makes an additional $3000 that day.

After working for Big Blue for 2 years you realize that people that go into stores on Black Friday are el cheapos looking for the 200.00 PC and 50.00 portable DVD player. Best Buy and all of these retailers actually lose money on these "deal" items (which are usually off brand and stripped down items) in order to just get people in their store to buy other things. I am sure you WILL see an "in stock" promise on the Best Buy flyer that comes out Sunday (probably 15-25 per store) for Black Friday that they will have the Wii.

Why hold them...they want people at their store that morning.

We shall see, everyone on the board said it shouldn't be a problem getting one up till noon today, but supply/demand proved the people who said that wrong.

I guess I'm not "on the board". Wii will be very difficult to get in-store through the end of December. Mark...my...words. (Not that people listened before.)
Awww.

You can come to my house and play with my Wii.

Heh heh.
Well you live pretty close to me, and my parents are outta town tonight, so why dont you bring it over to my house tonight?

I drove by the Best Buy that's by my house last night and there were about 5-10 people setting up tents...there's no way I would do that. So this morning at 6:45 I went with my girlfriends' brother to Wal-Mart, there were only about 10 people in line (even though Target across the road had a HUGE line also), we waited for about an hour and 15 minutes outside and we were able to get one each:D (they had 23 total). Drove by Best Buy afterwards on our way to McDonald's and people were STILL waiting outside in the cold...why would people not go to the less obvious places? Oh well...

Wow nice...if I really would have wanted one I could have lined up 10 minutes early. I kinda wish I would have but I was too lazy and something came up right when I was gunna run to the store. I can't believe there's people like that one guy at Nintendo World that camped for 10 days and changed his middle name legally to "Triforce". Come on man! Get a life

I went to the midnight release at Gamestop, got in line and such. At the register I hand him my debit card and swipe it at the machine it shows "call for Auth" and the guy says it's declined, I tell him no it doesnt it says call for auth so call, He goes "No sir I cant do that you must not have enough funds" So I race home mad as a mother trucker and check my bank account and of course their is a charge from Gamestop sitting right on top for $300+ at 12:09am. I calm myself down and go to sleep, wake up in the morning and call customer service of my bank to get the 411 and they said "well yeah its going to say call for auth when trying to make a $300+ purchase at a electronics store at midnight, why didn't they call for auth?" I head back down to Gamestop returned a gutted copy of resistance fall of man for my $60 back, they threw a hissy fit asking why I was retuning a opened product  I told them I found it cheaper and they sold it too me open. I then picked up my Wii paying cash. On my way Out I told them Resistance fall of man was a crappy game and not to bother with it but thanks for the free rental. fuck EB/Gamestop
IT seems like these are selling for more than retail on EBAY.....I thought these are EASY to find. weird.
Didn't you get the memo? People are idiots.
I hate having to wait when I know that everyone else is playing their system.
Why would you care what other people are doing?

Enjoy YOUR life. You're breathing, you have a computer, online access. I'm assuming you have food to eat and a roof over your head. So you have to wait a week or so for the latest game system, big deal.

Yeah, I know this is the "I'm going to kvetch" thread, but I just had to throw a little positive light your way.

And if it makes you feel any better, I have mine but won't be playing it till the component cables get shipped out (late this month). And my ps3 is still in the box because I'm not sure what I want to do with it yet. There see? MY life totallly stinks.

I went to Toys R Us, because everyone was saying they'd have the most. I went there just before 7 am, it opens at 10. I figured that should be good. By the time 9:30 rolls around, still no word from the TRU people, but the line has grown to the point that I'm about in the middle. This woman a few places in front of me counted the people in front of her, and from that I found out that I was #43. I'd been told to expect every TRU to have a minimum of 60 units, and many were throwing around numbers like 100. So I felt pretty good about my chances. Then the TRU guy came out. He said they had 39 systems.

39 fucking systems.

What really pisses me off is they let me and the 40 people behind me wait around for so long. I waited in line for almost 3 hours before finding out anything.

Did they offer you and the other people rainchecks for the next shipment? I know its not much but at least they'll give you a call when the next shipment comes in. I went to the Toys R Us near me and they said they were sold out but they were offering rainchecks for everyone that missed the wii.

Did you forget TRU took pre-orders? Most stores took 40-46 preorders for the system...hence around 100. Luckily for me I pre-ordered AND got a ticket...which I sold for $100.

I looked online to see what stores had them in-stock using yahoo's nifty Wii finder tool. Just about every store around me has some. All the Wal-Marts, CCs, BBs, Targets, K-Marts, have at least a few left.

Just used the finder and it says that a walmart and target have 5 left each. I called them both up and both said they are out of stock and I even asked if they could check the back but they still said there's nothing left. I am pretty sure this finder tool isn't that reliable.

No matter what store you are at, if you ask "do you have any in the back?" your getting the automatic answer of "we dont have anything in the back" Because stores need that room for dance floors and deathmatch arenas, you know cool shit.

I haven't called any stores yet because I'm still not sure if I want one. But, I've searched 3 times, and I've noticed the numbers in some of the stores have dropped. I'll agree it's not too reliable, but at least it can help you manage your time and call stores that MAY have some left.

Even ignoring that obvious fact, I think it would be impossible for there to be a few systems sitting around in the back that nobody knows about. If I was an employee and somebody asked that, I would respond by either hanging up or saying, "Are you serious?" And then hanging up.

Yeah I kind of felt like an idiot asking if they could check in the back but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who asked the same question. Wow now the finder is saying that there is 29 wii's left at a walmart near me. I was at this walmart and know for a fact that it sold out because the person in front of me in line bought the last wii.

I'm on the Wii locator, but it doesn't give numbers for each store, what am I doing wrong?

Yeah, this is bullshit. The further I read in this thread the more it makes me want to raise hell at local retailers. The two Walmarts I went to either got screwed on shipments or have about 50-75 sitting in the back. Store #1 I was 27th in line, they sold exactly 20 and said "That's it, we're out." and store #2 was claiming they only got 50 (which might actually be believable since it's not actually in the metro area). Target I didn't check out too thoroughly because I counted 47 people in line at 1am so I figure they probably did sell all of theirs. Best Buy limited the line to 25 since "that's all they had" and the other two stores I asked at (Circuit City and TRU) both said they got 25 and 15 systems respectively.

So basically it's more retail bullshit of holding systems back. There's NO WAY supply numbers were that low considering I live in a metro area.

What you're supposed to do is say you called 5 minutes ago and someone went in back and checked for you and there were indeed systems. At that point they will either continue to deny it or buy into your bluff (if more systems are there) because if your story were true (which it isnt) you could get mad at them for wasting your precious time and gas.

Lying, folks...more useful than most are led to believe.

Damn. I was really only pumped for Zelda on this mother and seeing as I can get it for gamecube I think I'm just going to wait on a Wii after all. Congrats to everyone that got one.

I feel sorry for all of you getting the cube version because Wiiconnect 24 will inevitably release something for Zelda and all of you will probably end up getting both.

Seriously think about it. How can they not release extra content. They've already said they will for Metroid. And Elder Scrolls Oblivian and others really paved the way on 360. It's inevitable.

I wonder if the stores are holding back stock for Black Friday, or making use of the employee discount. At one Walmart, they told me there were 33 in the back room, when the cart came out after midnight, there were only 20. At Target, the store clerk flat out said he was holding one for his friend.

Best Buy guy said to watch the ads because that's when they'll release new stock. That kinda makes sense because they want to hedge their bets in case Nintendo pulls a Xbox 360 launch redux. At least the local EB said they will be getting shipments weekly.

I think the holding back is up to the store managers. I got a 360 and DDR Mario Mix just walking in some week in december. Lucky me was able to sell both for a nice profit.

Anyway, I'm going to be making some calls tommorow. I need to play Zelda.
So basically it's more retail bullshit of holding systems back. There's NO WAY supply numbers were that low considering I live in a metro area.
The retailers have no reason to hold PS3 or Wii stock back, you are going to buy the thing at full price so there is no incentive to use them as Black Friday bait. Plus most stores these days use automatic reordering. If they hold systems back they wont be getting replacements for those systems until they are sold. Finally, their profit on the systems is minor, they make their markup on the games, it undercuts their profit to not sell you a system.

Whatever store you checked was indeed sold out, or the systems they did have in the back were spoken for by employees.

Well, my whole plan was to go to the BX here in Arizona, and get my Wii tax free.

I got there at about 6:30 AM, and waited 3 hours for them to open. Finally, they open and we walk to the electronics section. Some bitchy ass woman yells at us saying "We didn't get any Wiis in!!! We were supposed to, but didn't!" :bomb:

They had us all waiting outside, knowing damn right they didn't have any. And then give us a fucking attitude when we go looking for one. "Well you can put your ticket in the raffle box, so you might get one tomorrow when we get them in!"

Er, so anyway. I went to Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Kmart, and Toys-R-Us. No luck.
Hopefully they resupply these things soon.

This is the last time I rely on those fuckers, I knew I should of put a pre-order down just in case.

You sly dog. Maybe I'll try that some time, and most likely it will back fire, and waste both my time and workers time, while he/she cluelessly runs around the store checking for an imaginary Wii.

wii.yahoo.com, but its been said it doesnt work. It located a Target with Wii's in stock for me just down the street.

However, said Target must be hidden behind the strip mall at the address listed.

wii finder @ yahoo, it's only telling you stores that actually sell it.

as a consolation. for the wii-less, here's a video that hopefully will get you feeling better. i'm suprised that luigi smashed the wii, i was hopin' that he'd vacuum it up or something. :applause:

I was in line at Walmart for 24 hours. I was number one in line. :) There were 27 people and 27 systems up until Midnight, when a bunch of people showed up expecting to get a system. Of course, none of them got one.

Wrong topic

I couldn't get a wii at wal mart, eb/gs, k mart best buy or anywhere else. The fact that I have to wait a few weeks doesn't bother me that bad, its just the smug bastards that think because they showed up an hour or two earlier, they're somehow better than me.

This guy at walmart kept taunting me and my friend with such classics as " I'm going to play zelda tonight and your not!" . The guy couldn't have been any younger than 40, stalky and bald-headed and weighed NO LESS than 400 pounds.

This guy at walmart kept taunting me and my friend with such classics as " I'm going to play zelda tonight and your not!"

So is that what the Nintendo hardcore are calling masturbation now?

P.S. Not weighing under four hundred pounds kind of automatically excludes one from being considered "stocky". That's more like Chunk from The Goonies.

I am a school teacher and I have not heard one student even say the word revolution or Wii since E3. Then somehow in the Olean are there is people camping out overnight at Wal-mArt for their 20 Wiis.

I planned on going to Kmart at 4am, but I thought I ordered one on Radio Shack, so I slept in to find my order was canceled. I called Kmart at 5:30 and they said that they alredy had like 15 people in line for their 6 systems.

I then went to EB and FYE. They had just enough to cover their preorders.

I called Radio Shack and they said they'd have more in a week.

I wonder how many people bought this thing not even knowing what they were buying just to make $100 on eBay with it.

I officially hate eBay.

Same here man. I will never again doubt the determination and will of uneducation Levittowners who will wait for hours and hours in extreme temperatures to try and make a quick buck. I remember when I was walking into Best Buy on my way to search for a Wii, some guy was leaving with his girl friend and friend. The guy himself has 2, and the girlfriend had 1 and the friend had 1. It's infuriating.

Also, when I went to the Target that is like 20 minutes from my house, I walked into the game aisle and some shady dude was there and was like "You guys looking for the Wii?" and we were like "Yeah". He was like "How much you looking to pay? I've already been up and down route 1, no one has them." I was like "I'll pay $260". Then he was like "They're going for over 650 on eBay". So I was just like, "No thanks I'll get one" and he just gave us a weird smile. That dude was straight up b'ugly as hell, but unfortunately, he was in a way right with that deformed grin, because it was basically saying to me "Good luck asshole".

What a son of a bitch.

See, this is all proof that it's not really the fault of the console manufacturers, that these asswipes will buy up whatever amount they're offering (during the Holiday Season, anyway...see PSP for results outside this crucial timeframe). Shipping (probably) well under 400,000 PS3s to the States last Friday never helps, but triple that amount wouldn't have been enough...it just would've driven the winning bid prices down correspondingly.
