Damn Nintendo. I gotta go get another card tomorrow....

Finally, I think I will be able to beat Metroid. I never have. I used to get a bunch of weapons but couldn't ever find Kraid or Ridley...

/Conan O'Brien's SECRETS
Why don't you just purchase the points on the console?

Unless you like the cards, and have a coupon or something.

I'm not going to link anything because that would be spam--but I don't know why some of you don't check out some of those freebie sites. You can easily earn a Wii points card in a couple hours. You know the sites, you even know what forum to go to..so I'm just SAYING some of you should def check them out. Free beats coupons anyday

It's a hard game. If you aren't following a guide and you aren't willing to spend weeks on it bombing every little nook and cranny, you're going to become frustrated quickly. I wonder how much more accessible Zero Mission is.
Since Metroid is this week, and Super Metroid is the week after...makes me wonder if they are even gonna give us anything ELSE good to go with these games. (Maybe not in comparison, but GOOD nonetheless)\
I know this is blasphemy, but I really don't like any of the Metroids. I find them incredibly boring.

I really hope we get something radically different...like Pro Wrestling, which has been rumored forever.
It's a hard game. If you aren't following a guide and you aren't willing to spend weeks on it bombing every little nook and cranny, you're going to become frustrated quickly. I wonder how much more accessible Zero Mission is.
I'm been playing Zero Mission and it's been a breeze so far. It's a good remake, that can actual be beaten. I think some people might find the original NES version to be a frustrating dissapointment, so play the GBA version.

Original Metroid is an amazing game, but it's annoying if you don't know what to expect. What the game really needed more than anything was a map, it would've made all the difference in the world. That's why Metroid 2 needs to get a remake as well, though I'd settle for a straight rerelease, because it's been too many years since I've played that game.
As it is, I've played the game enough to know where everything is and how to get it. But when I was a kid back in the NES days I didn't like the game at all. Every time I played it I was always lost, and I don't think I ever managed to get anywhere near a boss back then, except the Fake Kraid. Which didn't help matters, since I never found the real one how was I supposed to know that one was fake?
Hmm.. Well on Friday, Europe got Volleyball for NES, Breath of Fire 2 for SNES, and Galaga '90 for TG16. Wonder if we'll get Volleyball or BoF2
I hope they don't release Breath of Fire 2 yet .. I just started Shining Force and I'm not ready for another good game yet on my vc!

Good morning! Thanks for the update, Pop! I just woke up.. ugh at not feeling well in the morning :(

I'll get to updating the OP in a bit.
As for today's releases: Meh, personally. Not a big fan of the original Metroid.
Hmm, can I beat Metroid in 7 days?
I don't have much time to play each day...
Have you played it at all before? If you know what to do, the game shouldn't take much more than an hour, if that. If you haven't ever played it before(or Zero Mission), expect it to take longer(how long really depends on how much you get lost).

I should be fine I think.

shining in the darkness...random. still nothing for me this week. maybe I'll get super metroid next week.

If people are looking to save some Wii points, Shining in the Darkness as well as Shining Force, and quite a few others of the Genesis games are on Gametap. It's saved me a few Wii points over the last few months.

I can't decide if I should pick up Metroid though. I know I'll be grabbing Super Metroid though, that's a no doubter.
Shining in the Darkness? Dark Sol? Is there a relationship b/w that game and Phantasy Star?
Now thats a game I'd love to see on the VC, Phantasy Star! I remember playing uh, Phantasy Star 4? i think .. great games.

How was Shining in the Darkness if you've played it on Gametap? Shining Force is awesome but I heard Shining in the Darkness is a different style of gameplay.

That was a Master System game, so it's unlikely to show up. 2,3, and 4 will almost surely at some point (and they are available at the moment on the Sega Genesis Collection). THQ released a PS Collection (1,2,3) for GBA a few years back, but it had a nasty, nasty game crash/save erase bug in it that was completely arbitrarily activated, so you had no control over when it would happen (and it almost certainly did happen).

How gay of them to release the Metroid games just week/weeks before Metroid Prime 3. Oh well I can't wait for next week, Super Metroid shall be mine!

I think any AAA release is a great thing no matter the timing. I really couldn't give a shit about the business sense of it--it's the business sense of things that has me STILL waiting to play one of gaming's top titles ever, SMB3. I'm not a Metroid fan, but I certainly empathize with those waiting to get their hands on Super Metroid. Now they know they're gonna get theirs, and more power to 'em.

If getting Metroid on VC is gay, then give me all the cocks in the world.
The last boss in PS1 was Dark Falz. In later PS games he was listed as Dark Force. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantasy_star.
Oh. Bad memory on my part. Nothing new in that regard.

Trying to build more hype for Metroid Prime.. maybe..??

Yea it was totally gay. They must like Coldplay

Its the best move they've done with the VC. Delivering the original, the Super version where a bunch of the weapons/enemies were introduced, then the latest version. Appetizers to get your mouth watering.

Yes sir!

I shall join you in the dick banquet.

Which...sounds...strange, even when it's me typing it out.

Also, if you aint down with da Justin Bailey, get the fuck out now.

I'm playing Metroid tonight!

Turning off the lights, turning up the sound.
You really become immersed.

No game out there like it on NES.

Something to try in Metroid: beat the game without getting the Varia, and when you replay as suitless Samus, her hair will be a different color! Amazing!

So, having never played a Metroid before Prime (yeah, yeah, Strell, beat on me some more) I'm guessing I may just want to wait for Super Metroid? I have the Metroid GBA cart (and it is on one of the other GBA Metroid games, too, right?). It has been so long since I bought a VC title. I haven't even played the last few I got (Starfox 64, I forget what else) for more than 15 minutes - too much other stuff to do...

Super Metroid is a supreme game, easily one of the best 16-bit games ever. The graphics, the atmosphere, the secrets...it is one of the most perfectly executed games ever.

Definitely recommended.

/see? I'm being nice

I won't be nice.

WTF IO? You're old enough to have played these games already.

Get with the program and DL Metroid and Super Metroid (one of the all time, greatest games ever made, seriously) now! (and next week)

:)

It's like this with the Metroids. I played and beat SM (with much assistance from my youngest sister, who's a Metroid fan), and I will acknowledge that it is an incredibly deep gaming experience and deserves its kudos. But for the Metroid series in general, I just don't like bombing the shit out of everything to find a way out. On every screen. I'd rather just, you know, locate a wooden door and turn the handle. Or walk up some stairs to the level above. I'm lazy that way.

Speaking of which, do any of the Metroids even have stairs? Or is it all platforms and holes in walls?

In space?!

I wasn't a big fan of Metroid as played via Zero Mission. Would probably enjoy it more with a guide. I'll give Super Metroid a shot though, since I can see with Prime it's at least possible for me to enjoy the style of game. And Super won't give me nausea.

I can imagine Samus at the mall. She ignores the escalator and bombs half the second level so she can climb the rubble to get to Bath and Body Works.

LMFAO

Don't you think she'd just do the bomb trick? Or maybe even she can't get the timing down on that.

(While still on the subject, this would make a great one-shot comic. I should remember it.)

As for stairs, the only place I think they might be would be in the military/science stations you typically start at, but I'm not sure.

Also, do ramps count as stairs? I recall those in Prime.

Also, in Fusion, aren't there ladders? I guess stairs are neglected as viable methods of vertical transport in the future.

Correction - I'm too old to have played Metroid (don't you know, Nintendo is for the kiddies, and I was in high school when the NES came out ). I will probably get Super Metroid but pass on the original (since I do already have at least 2, if not 3, versions of it in various places).
Also, in Fusion, aren't there ladders? I guess stairs are neglected as viable methods of vertical transport in the future.
I believe Rolling Thunder agrees with you.

I thoroughly enjoyed Shining in the Darkness some 13 years ago. Finished it as part of a nine day epic rental from the local store.

If you like dungeon crawls, it's a good time.
Some people here might be thinking - or might know people who are thinking - "Hey, Shining Force was great. I think I'll get Shining in the Darkness."

People undergoing this thought process should be punched in the face. This is not a punishment. The idea is that by the time they get out of the hospital, they will have forgotten about getting such a shitty game as Shining in the Darkness.
Oddly that's exactly why I bought it back in 92... Just another little piece of my soul I can never reclaim.
I just grabbed it off of Gametap. I'll try to take a look at it tonight and see how it looks.

I really love that service. Want to take a look at a Genesis game, 10 seconds later you're playing it. I know the rom world makes that possible too, but this is nice and easy.

In the future, there are no more stairs. They are too difficult to ascend with our robo-legs.
