Wii 1.5! It'll be smaller, have a 20GB HDD, and a two-tone color scheme.
Any smaller and it'll be a certifiable portable.
The only thing I remember about World Heroes was beating the game in one quarter the first time I played it.

NEO-GEO has some amazing fighters, but these three don't even hold up in terms of how 2D fighters have evolved over time. Yech.
My thoughts exactly on World Heroes. That game was way too easy and got boring real quick. And Art of Fighting was a dud from the beginning. I like Fatal Fury though. But I just recently got the Battle Archive for PS2. No VC games for me this week.

I picked up World Heroes last night, more out of curiosity than anything else, it's not bad, there's not many characters though. Maybe things improved with World Heroes Jet or whatever it was.

Also picked up Super Metroid, now that game is sweet, missed the first 25 mins of Top Gear last night cos I got sucked in to Metroid.:)

Came out in Japan today:
* ZANAC (Famicom, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
* Alien Soldier (Mega Drive, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
* Power Golf (PC Engine, 1-3 players, 600 Wii Points)
* Art of Fighting (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)
* Alien Soldier (Mega Drive, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
Ooooooooo.

Surprised that Treasure is getting as much love as they are, it took long enough.

Today, Europe only got 2 games. They are:

Super Metroid
Probector II

Accord to this site, we have 1 confirmed release for Monday. We might be welcoming another new system on the VC.

It's Gate of Thunder. I'm confused. It's 800 points, and on THAT site it says for Turbografx 16. On the Wikipedia page for Gate of Thunder, it says it's for "PC Engine CD-Rom" aka Turbografx CD (was that the name for it?). It makes sense if it's the TurboCD as we knew we were getting games for that this month..and this is 800 points compared to the 600 points.

Regardless, Gate of Thunder will be out this Monday.

Personally, this is a not exciting. But maybe it's someone else's excitement.

Oct. 15, 2007

This week marks the first appearance of a CD-ROM game for the TurboGrafx16 on Virtual Console™. Take control of the Hunting Dog ship and battle deadly Obbellon fighters in the classic horizontal sci-fi shooter, Gate of Thunder. If shooting's not your thing, you can go out and save the world from evil demons or a power-hungry general in this week's other offerings that bolster the Wii Shop Channel's catalog of action-adventure and real-time strategy games.

Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Ninja Gaiden II™: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES®, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Mild Violence, 500 Wii Points): In Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, a new villain, Ashtar, is revealed. Take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa and rescue Irene Lew, a former CIA agent, from Ashtar. Destroy the Sword of Chaos, a weapon of great power forged from the bone of a demon. Use techniques such as the Fire Wheel or the Windmill Throwing Star and attack while holding on to walls and ladders. Use the most innovative technique of all - the ability to create Shadow Clones, orange shadow versions of Ryu that will constantly follow him, repeating previous actions (moving or attacking) in a delayed cycle. Once again defeat henchmen, creatures and bosses with new fighting techniques and even more weapons as you progress through multiple stages on your way to destroying Ashtar, Jaquio and the Realm of Chaos.

Metal Marines® (Super NES®, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Set in the near future, most of Earth's land has been disintegrated in the chaos of the Anti-matter War. This real-time strategy game portrays the Colonies' Allied Force - the Metal Marines - in their epic struggle against General Zorgeuf and the Imperial Federation, who are bent on world domination. Commanding the Metal Marines across a series of battles, the player must strategically allocate resources, ready supplies, manage funds and move troops in an effort to outwit and outmove the opponent. The real-time battle system rewards split-second decisions and adaptability in the struggle for military superiority. Unlike most turn-based strategy games, Metal Marines engrosses the player in a fast-paced and frantic battle in which both sides advance simultaneously. A constant eye must be kept on enemy movements to maintain a formidable defense and not miss the perfect chance to strike. Strategic foresight and quick judgment hold the key to victory.

Gate of Thunder (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The legendary sci-fi shooter is back! Gate of Thunder is a horizontal side-scrolling shooter that places you in control of special undercover agent Hawk, whose mission is to stop the deadly army of Obbellon fighters. Jump into the action as Hawk gets aboard his ship, the Hunting Dog, and heads out toward the enemy. Blast through stages while effectively using all three of the weapons at your disposal and receiving support from ally Wild Cat ships. Switch through equippable power-up options on the fly to change the direction of your attack. You'll have to blast in front of and behind you to survive all seven stages. Hard-core shooting-game fans looking for a challenge can select HARD or DEVIL mode to experience even more intense action!

So..am I making a new section for Turbografx16 CD games or what? Because it looks like they are keeping it categorized as TG16.. But I know the CD games will be 800 points.

OP & title updated. I put Gate of Thunder in the TG16 section. I'll wait and see if they make a section on the Wii Shop channel for the TGCD games. If not, I'll just make a note for each game that comes out as that. Not a big deal, but still.

Luckily I spent too much points lately and have Puzzle Quest and Sin & Punishment to keep me busy. Along with Eternal Sonata...
Maybe next week!

I never played the second Ninja Gaiden. I'm trying to work my way through the first one right now. It's such a good, frustrating, NES game.

Ninja Gaiden II was easier than I, IMO. Was it a password or save system that it had?

Ninja Gaiden I and Castlevania were two of the hardest NES games in my memory. As a lad, I *maybe* beat them once...though Castlevania became easier in later iterations (GBA Classics).

I'm kinda liking the idea of NGII, but holding out for (I hope) Ninja Gaiden Trilogy to make its way onto VC eventually.

So it turns out Paper Mario is broken.

Once you get the power bounce, you can pretty much one shot anything in the game. Once you jump on their head once (timed), look in the upper left corner to see the button icon. When you see the button icon press down, you hit the button. I hit a guy 30 or 40 times just to see if I could.

Also, if you do your spin attack you can cancel it with a jump at the end to just move across distances probably about 2.5 times faster than normal.

Haha.

My gf just beat this game on Saturday. I'm proud of her.

I'll have to look at this and see if it's true.

Edit: Hmmm. I didn't even know the SNES had turned based war sims. Anyone played Metal Marines?

Oh I see. That button indicator is there because one of my badges says it makes the action sequences easier, but I didnt realize how. I thought it just increased the window, but it actually just tells you when it is.

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy might have thrown in a password or save system, but the original Ninja Gaiden II had neither. About all it did to make things easier was to allow for Ryu to climb the wall once he's attached to it (press up or down). That way, you no longer have to do that annoying flip up to scale walls. It's still a difficult game, but not in the stupidly annoying way of the first game.

It's about time this got released. I can stop sitting on those 500 points.

I have Metal Marines. I found it in the box about a year ago -for cheap- at a bookstore. I never really got far, but it is a serviceable RTS. For it's time, it must have been pretty cool. My plate is just too full of games, and Advance Wars DS is enough for me when I get the RTS bug.

So did everyone else get an e-mail today from Nintendo with the headline being about This Week's Virtual Console releases and thought "Oh cool! They did this on a MONDAY!"..and yet, when you opened it up it was LAST WEEK'S games....

SIGH. They ALMOST had it right.
I wonder if NG2 is less of a piece of shit than 1 was. I can't even fathom an NG worse than 1.
NG2 is better, but if you hated NG that much I doubt you'd like 2 or 3 either.

Japan's releases today:
* Famicom Tantei Club (Famicom Disk System, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
* Assault Suits Valken (Super Famicom, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
* Sonic 3D Blast (Mega Drive, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
* Ys I&II (PC Engine CD-ROM, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
* Samurai Spirits (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)

Really hope we can start gettin an average of 4 games per week now. With sometimes 5 :) I like seeing a bunch of games released..one for different systems.

I know it's been a couple weeks, but I just finally got around to actually playing Sin & Punishment today. I can't even begin to guess what's going on with the story, which doesn't hurt my enjoyment of the game(and this game is great, I'd recommend this to just about everyone). But seriously? It feels like the most randomest things ever are just included for no reason. Maybe it makes more sense later, because I didn't beat the game(I only made it up to the guy with the weird talking rabbit thing). Knowing the game was always in English really only confuses the situation, since I know I can't blame it on a bad translation, and the story was intended to be this random.

I'd wait for user reports.

Where the hell is Uniracers....?

*high five*

Also, just letting everyone know I sadly went out and did something stupid and got myself a job. sigh. My hours are 7-3, so don't expect the thread to be updated at 8am anymore.. Unless I'm off and/or call out.. lol

But I will have this updated every Monday, so don't worry about this thread getting out of control or something like that

Well, yeah that's what I meant. The game was always in English, so whatever's there now is what was always there. I still have no idea what's actually going on in this game, but I really don't care because it's a great game. :)

I'm always on here at 8 on Monday, so I can post the new games in the thread if needed.

So I'm at the final boss in Ninja Gaiden 2, or so it seems. I finish off jaquio's floating body with flames form, get my ass kicked by head at the end of a stomach lining corridor form, then it takes me all the way back to 6-1 or whatever! Bullshit! And there's another form right after that!

Consider me stunned to see blood, characters threatening to kill, and real guns in an NES game. How did this ever get by nintendo's censors?

And the sound effects in gate of thunder are way too loud. I can't hear the kickass music, just annoying high pitched sound effects.

General Betray Us! I demand you quit right now and come back home to CAG!
I wonder if NG2 is less of a piece of shit than 1 was. I can't even fathom an NG worse than 1.
I like Ninja Gaiden. Thank God for infinite continues or otherwise I would consider this game unbeatable (ala Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES). As it is, the game requires a high dedication to memorizing where everything is and top notch reflexes. I've managed to make it all the way through the game to the final boss but I can't get beat him so I get knocked back down to 6-1. It's been pretty much the only reason I haven't beaten the game yet but I figure with some practice I'll manage something soon.

I'd enjoy Uniracers, that game was awesome way back .. spent too many hours playing it .. and of course the never-going-to-show-up Earthbound.

Add to that Super Mario RPG and Kirby Superstar of course.

The street was right--2 NES and a Genesis.

WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

October 22, 2007
Autumn leaves aren't the only reason your October is about to get a lot more colorful. The latest additions to the Wii Shop Channel deliver a brisk, eye-pleasing mix of classic gameplay for fall. Dive into this pile of vibrant titles for a timeless dose of fun and fantasy.

Lunar Pool® (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Lunar Pool takes the historical game of billiards and reinvents it with a unique and futuristic flair. The rules are simple: All you need to do is use your cue stick to hit the white cue ball, causing it to hit the other numbered balls and make them go into the pockets. You can enjoy nearly unlimited game play with 30 tables, two different ball arrangements, and the ability to change the degree of friction on the table. You can play against a computer or another human player, so try challenging someone once you've got the hang of the game.

Ninja JaJaMaru-kun® (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Take on the role of a ninja called JaJaMaru and rescue the captured Princess Sakura from the evil Namazu Dayuu in this action-packed game, previously unreleased outside of Japan. JaJaMaru must use his throwing stars to defeat the monsters lurking in each of Dayuu's many hideouts. JaJaMaru has to be careful though, as each monster has its own unique weapon and method of attacking. The only way for him to advance is to break the floor bricks above him and move up and down between the levels of each round, defeating monsters as he goes. To help him, broken bricks sometimes reveal items that JaJaMaru can use to his advantage, possibly leading to the ultimate power-up: a ride on Gamapakun, the giant frog. Throw in some bonus stages and you've got a game with a style all its own.

Golden Axe™ III (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The once-peaceful kingdom so familiar to fans of the original Golden Axe is under threat once again. The Prince of Darkness has stolen the invaluable Golden Axe, taken over the kingdom and rendered its warriors harmless with an evil curse. One warrior breaks free from the curse and must defeat the prince and regain the Golden Axe to save the kingdom. In this one- or two-player action game, play as a giant, a panther or a sword-wielding human and fight your way to victory once again.
