So what time do these come out again? Was it around 10-12 EST?
9amPST

That's 12:00 for us on the east cost ;(
4 excuriatingly long hours.

I believe it will be 1200 points well spent.
Is the 2 player mode, co-op?

Kinda ironic that the first thing they mention in the descriptor of S&P is "legendary development house Treasure," given the other thread about Nintendo not wanting to list developers by name on their software packages.

At any rate, it seems that my "the fun I'll have using MAME on my PS3 linux partition will ensure that I'll never pay for VC content again!" theory has been shot to hell in under 24 hours. Totally buying both of these (this is the first US appearance of the NES version of Lost Levels, right?).
Is the 2 player mode, co-op?
From what I've read, yeah.

Don't mistake me for one that's played it. I'm up on teh internet hype right now.

And yeah, this is the first time we see the NES Lost Levels.

Oh hey, nice touch Nintendo.:
So get ready to put your Mario skills to the ultimate test, and save the Princess again. Just don't be surprised if she's in another castle.

HOLY F*CKING SHIT
(this is the first US appearance of the NES version of Lost Levels, right?).
No, it was also on the SNES Mario Allstars compilation.

I can't remember if they updated the graphics or if it was a straight conversion.

I think this means Lost Levels's second appearance.
Damn. Buying these tonight, even if it means supporting even HIGHER VC prices than normal.
As much as I dislike the higher price, I assume this is "well these were never released in America" taxes, so to speak.

Which makes sense (to Nintendo), and makes sense to me (begrudgingly), makes sense to my wallet (reluctantly), but still sucks (majorly).

Oh well. I've waited for S&P for damn near forever.

Best line of the press release is this:

Nintendo is launching the new Import genre with the release of two games that previously have never been available in the Western Hemisphere on their original platforms.
Here's hoping for more.

C'moooooon Bahamut Lagoon!

I knew it was on All-Stars, but I wasn't sure if the NES version appeared elsewhere (GBA Classics Series, for example). The graphics were updated in the All Stars comp, just like the others; so, this would make the first appearance of the original version.
Yes!

September surprise anyone??? ;)
Only Nintendo could delay a September surprise into October. :p
Yes!

They missed it by a day, LOL

Lost Levels was def a remake for All Stars. I do remember the graphics being much better then an NES game.

And yes I too saw "Import Genre", which is a very nice thing to see! Let's see if they actually add that to the Wii Shop channel..if it is, then we def can expect ANYTHING from now on.

EDIT: this is an image from Lost Levels from Mario All Stars. This proves this was re-did (graphically) and what we are getting today IS the original. So in a sense, yes this is the first time it's been released in the US

Import genre, eh? IIRC, Japan's VC has the MSX available on it.

Perhaps now you people can learn what PAIN is all about when you try to play the predecessor to Castlevania, Vampire Killer. Or, if you're not a proud owner of Metal Gear Sold 3: Subsistence, how phenomenal the original MSX iterations of Metal Gear and Metal Gar 2 were like.

That is if they bring MSX titles over here. Worst case scenario, we'll surely see Rondo of Blood a few months after sales of the PSP game dwindle.

They did update the graphics in Super Mario All-Stars so this would be the first appearance in all its 8-bit glory.

I'm not going to be one of those that buys SMB2j. That game, while a great challenge, is not really all that fun. It is more of a chore than anything else to make it through the levels.

I'll probably pick up S&P at some point, probably after xmas when I get some Wii points cards as gifts.
1200 points for a largely-unplayed, but highly-hyped game? Hmm...

Will this be the VC version of Snakes on a Plane?
Yes this is the problem I have. Ive seen videos and I've read some reviews..but..that doesn't say how I'll feel about it. I hate to repeat myself, but if they are going to bring in imports..that means most of us have not played these games!!..then they need to offer a demo. I hate to constantly say that..but it's true. Especially with NeoGeo, TurboCD, and TurboDuo games all coming..

But then..why should they offer demos if people will fall into the hype and shell out $12?

We are stuck with 2 problems: We either NOT buy the games we are not sure of (especially if they are import), and if sales kinda suck for the "Import Genre" they may stop completely. But if we DO blindly throw out the money for the games..kinda like them or HATE them..we are out of money. :whistle2:(

Give me Seiken Densetsu 3!
I Will Buy Both!!!
LOL I'll probably blindly buy both too! I do have 10,500 wii points remaining. All in which were from them darn lagoons!

I think last time I downloaded something..I had 500ish blocks left. REALLY starting to get anxious about space lately.

Buy and SD card and transfer the titles you aren't playing frequently over until you want to play them again.

I hope so! I loved that movie!

1200 points? HELL NO! I'm a cheapass.

Nintendo Has seen that people don't mind getting FUTA and now are jacking up the prices of their old games.

Is that game even emulated properly and have the controls been butchered?

It was a game that never came to America to begin with. Hell, neither of them have, if you want to split hairs about it.

As for emulated controls, I don't know why the emulator would suddenly mess up after being around for several months, but that's your reasoning...

Don't paint that first sentence of yours in different skins and act like you're making sense, because you're not. You don't want them, then fine.

It would be like walking into a car lot and screaming "WHAT? NO DEEP FRYER ON THESE MODELS? MADNESS, I TELL YOU! MADNESS!"
Wait. Lost Levels is on Super Mario Bros. DX for GBC ain't it?
I'll have to dig up my copy.
Im not home to see my copy, but according to this review it was:
http://www.gamespot.com/gbc/action/...t=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review

"Super Mario Bros. For Super Players," or Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan as it's known here. The only other time western gamers would have had a chance to play these extra-hard levels was when Super Mario All-Stars hit the SNES. As the title suggests, this is just for Super Mario experts. Even the early stages are phenomenally tough - a slightly mistimed jump usually results in instant death. It's pretty intense stuff that will test the patience and tolerance of even the sternest gamer. Don't say we didn't warn you!

Assuming these two games have been released for other regions' VC, are their prices raised or is Nintendo charging the standard price for these two games?
Is the 2 player mode, co-op?
Apparently co-op, but not actually two player:

"The first player is in control of the main character as usual, but the second-player can step in at any time and control the site on the gun. This splits up the tasks of dodging bullets and shooting them quite effectively. So, make sure you pick a trustworthy friend (or one that doesn't suck). The only problem with it is, if you're good enough you can manage all this on your own. So the mode becomes rather moot when you become an expert. Ideally you would have been able to play as one of the other characters, but alas that's not possible."

I'm looking to purchase this, but I have too many new games!
Assuming these two games have been released for other regions' VC, are their prices raised or is Nintendo charging the standard price for these two games?
I believe it was 1200 for Europe (someone posted as much in GoNintendo comments), while I think it was 1000 in Japan (which would make sense given that it's not a big deal/special import event). I will need to verify both of those.

Wiki says yes to both of my claims.

There where a few changes to SMB2 on DX, like no difference between mario and luigi (I love luigis bigger jumps). I've always wanted to play this as it was originally intended.
Buy and SD card and transfer the titles you aren't playing frequently over until you want to play them again.
Have you ever copied a SNES or Genesis game over to the SD card? It takes FOREVER. This really isn't a problem with the lower bit games, but I'm sure it will be absolute hell to copy 64 games (the first of which I'll be buying today: Sin and Punishment).

There are plenty of games that haven't been emulated properly. If you don't want to see that then that's your problem. I have three of them on my Wii right now.

And I don't care if the games have never been released here. That's not justifaction for me. The prices are high enough already.

Well too bad that your opinion isn't fact, otherwise you'd have a point.
