All you people loving these newest releases and the "Import" channel can thank us pioneers who bought Battle Lode Runner to show Nintendo there's a huge market for previously Japanese-only exclusive games. ;)

Very cool ;)
When you click on the 2 games..they have a little japan flag and it says "import" on it.

Also, "Import" has made it's debut under the genre section.

Downloading now. Damn 287 blocks of memory. :whistle2:( I have 307 left. Thank God I do have a 2gb SD card..

 downloading Lost Levels 2. Left with 8700 points and 283 blocks! :whistle2:(

The TG-16 have very minor emulation issues, and none are emulated perfectly.
And I believe Star Fox 64 had control problems but they updated the ROM, and released it again.

I played the hell out of Dragon's Curse and didn't have one issue.

Started a little ways in Neutopia and didn't have problems there either.

You're going to have to give me more information.
I'll probably go download this in a few minutes. I swear, if this sucks.. I blame Dallow.
No, blame Strell!

They're extremly minor video issues things that 99% of us wouldn't notice.
Like the Bioshock and Halo HD things. ;)

Not worth noting.

Then I wouldn't consider that a total breakdown of the game, like is the implication I'm getting.

Also, that girl still didn't write you back, further proving me right again. This is all guessing, since I don't pay attention to CAG over the weekend.

Ok, Sin and Punishment takes a while to get the hang of ... longer than the 20 minutes I put into it. I can see the real appeal. Its design is basically Gunstar Heroes in 3D. And I love Treasure, so I'm sure S&P and I will have a beautiful future together.

Also, I was playing with the Classic Controller (and this was my first N64 VC purchase). What's the consensus about controller choice with N64 games -- Classic or Gamecube controller?

I was going to ask the same thing! It's kinda weird using the CC for this game. I adore the CC for SNES games and even Gen games..but N64 games.. I don't know. Paper Mario works really well with the CC. I'm going to go have to play with the GCN controller later and see.

Played the trainning and a few scenes..till I died :(
I'm impressed. Normally I fall into the hype and get severely disappointed..and I was waiting for it. I actually like this and can see myself playing this over and over again.

Funny..with the reticule and the sword action.. it's like a perfect idea for a Wii game. .. erm, minus Red Steel.

So, what are the odds of them bringing us a NEW Sin & Punishment with wii controls?! That would be fun!

So if Treasure had interest in doing it, it could be done.

I may get S&P depending on how the Wavebird controls for the game. I remember getting Contra III only to find out that the GC controller is terrible for it.

Generally SNES games are better with the Classic Controller and N64 games with Gamecube controllers.
Generally SNES games are better with the Classic Controller and N64 games with Gamecube controllers.
Yeah, Contra III is godly with the CC.

And luckily since Contra III is my only purchase so far, I have 1200 points sitting on my account. Hmm...

I can FINALLY see what's all the hooplah about S&P.
Well too bad that your opinion isn't fact, otherwise you'd have a point.
99.9% of CAG suffers from this very problem. It drives me fucking nuts. Like, I want nothing more than to punch someone in the face until they fucking get it :bomb:

I've never played Sin and Punishment, but I'll pick buy it when I get some since everyone seems to think it's great.
As for the Lost Levels, I want to play it, but I'm holding out hope for Super Mario Brothers All Stars (which I'm sure Nintendo would sell for way more then 800 points, maybe 1600 or 2000)

Just tried out the training in S&P. Takes a little getting used to, but I think it works really well. How Treasure managed to find the most annoying voice actor in the world, I'll never know.

This game would be perfectly suited to the Wii, actually. Way too well. I don't know what Treasure thinks about the game, or if they'd ever want to make a sequel, but it would be brilliant on the system if executed well.

Oh, and the game is great. Get it.

No shut up. Just get it. I don't want to hear it.

In my opinion, Sin and Punishment is too expensive. As such, I will not be purchasing it. However, I'm sure it is a lovely price to many and wish to offend no one.

YES!! and YES!

The first thing I thought of was how perfect this would fit the Wii!? Maybe, oh MAYBE this is WHY it was being released here/Europe? Hmm...

Lost Levels I can understand. It's Mario! But a shooting game that was Japan only (regardless of it being good or not) seems weird, IMO to show up on the Wii.

In fact, I HOPE this is the reasoning behind releasing this game on the VC!
Says the guy who spends 20 bucks on a stylus.
Completely besides the point, but okay.

I'm not one to blind buy games, especially when they're more expensive than usual. A shame, because I've heard a lot about it.

Here's a thought: Weren't/Aren't these games time-released in some other territory? Anyone know anything about that as it relates to US?
I'm not one to blind buy games, especially when they're more expensive than usual. A shame, because I've heard a lot about it.
Sin & Punishment is good. Very good.
Hehe.

And shouldn't you be at work Strell!
I am at work.

Shouldn't you be behind some bush in someone's backyard?
Completely besides the point
Not entirely, when you start throwing around "too expensive" like it's stone cold for everyone.
So ya went home to play for lunch?
That's dedication.
I always leave to go to lunch.

While eating it's not hard to turn on the damn thing and download.
So I should add "in my opinion" to the end of every post then?
That, or you could try not being an idiot. I'm assuming both works, I just question the ability to enact one over the other.

Excellent game. I hate that I am supporting premium VC pricing (as if normal VC pricing wasn't premium enough), but it's Sin & Punishment! One of the few VC games were you save a a lot of money by downloading (instead of ebaying) and still well worth their points by today's standards.

I'd waste my whole lunch hour just getting home, and turning around and driving straight back.

Can't wait to go home though, really want to beat SMB2 properly.
Have you ever copied a SNES or Genesis game over to the SD card? It takes FOREVER. This really isn't a problem with the lower bit games, but I'm sure it will be absolute hell to copy 64 games (the first of which I'll be buying today: Sin and Punishment).
Does it take a bit of time? Sure. But it's also the only option for those running low on VC space.

Off to do some running, then time to play SMB2 until I feel compelled to watch the Bengals suffer a bloodbath defeat to the goddamned Patriots.

i'm going to give in and buy super mario brothers: lost levels. i'm not too happy about the 600 point price. but what can you do. i loved playing this on mario all stars. and i'm looking forward to playing the original. i know there were some slight differences between the original super mario bros and the all star version, so i'm assuming that the same is true for the lost levels. and not just graphics. there were some other differences.

anyone else picking this one up?

To those that bought either of today's games:

Are there any Japanese characters to be found in the game? I'm wondering if the premium pricing can be attributed to translation costs.

I found a video of SMB the Lost Levels for anyone curious...

NSFW because of hilarious swearing.

This isn't actually SMB: The Lost Levels. The actual game is somewhat easier. Somewhat.
To those that bought either of today's games:

However the game manuals did need to be.

The Wikipedia page for Sin and Punishment mentions translation as a reason for the higher cost, but that might be bunk.

Well all the manuals for VC games appear to be written from scratch. I mean there's not like a virtual booklet with scanned images and the like. I imagine the only parts of a manual that would need to be translated would be the story elements, and even that wouldn't take much. There's still some translation going on, but it's not like they went in and photoshopped pages.

Also, I don't know how much of this game was originally in English. I remember reading on IGN way back when that the majority of the game already was in English. The cut scenes have voice IIRC and they were already in English.

I mean I tried out the training mode and there's a good bit of English in there. I don't know if they had to translate that or not.

I want to know where I can get that ROM in the youtube video (if I can ask that here).

Also, got Lost Levels today and it's as fun as I remember playing it as a kid (I had a Famicom).

I've looked for it but after wading through a thousand "Afro Mario Brothers" and "Super Columbine Mario" hacks, I've had no luck.

I was about to mention that the manuals are all 'new' anyway Strell. You're right.

I was thinking of the PSX games for download on PSN. They come with the original manuals scanned in to view.

S&P needed almost no translation.
Maybe a word or two and some during the credits.

But really, the higher cost is simply that these are pretty much brand new import games in America and Nintendo is going to run to the bank with it.

Let's take the discussion in a slightly different direction.

On the Wii Shop channel, if you click on the "New Genre: Imports!" bulletin, it specifically says something along the lines of "these games might have odd characters, but never enough such that you won't be able to enjoy the game!"

That sounds like to me "We're unwilling to do major translations." Which is like saying "Even if we found a way to let you have Snatcher, only Japan gets it, since we're not going to do the work on it."

That is the most interesting thing I've read since this morning.
If only we could find a way to access the Japanese store...
yes, and a copy of Rosetta software. And if you can read Japanese, congratulations. Here's some Pocky for you.
yes, and a copy of Rosetta software. And if you can read Japanese, congratulations. Here's some Pocky for you.
Are you telling me you've NEVER played an import game?

I've imported games since back in the SNES days.
Getting through the menus is half the fun.
