Heck, yes! How many times over have I paid for Mario 3? Who knows. It is the best game ever made and that's opinion that's fact. You "World" loves are just nuts. ;)

Eagerly awaiting the arrival of Super Mario Galaxy™ next week? Can't get Mario™ out of your head? You and everybody else! To whet your appetite for all things Mario, Nintendo is offering a special treat on the Virtual Console™ this week. It's not just any game, it's Super Mario Bros. 3™ – considered by many to be the greatest video game of all time (for at least one more week, anyway). It's a must-have title on a week that also features the first Virtual Console import title for Sega Genesis and a fun multiplayer golf game for TurboGrafx16.

Today Nintendo adds three new classic games to the popular Wii™ video game system's Wii Shop Channel. The games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased via the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Remember when no one had ever heard of a Tanooki Suit or knew that Bowser™ had a clan of Koopalings? The game that made these things common knowledge is also considered by many to be one of the best ever made. Bowser and the Koopalings are causing chaos yet again, but this time they're going beyond the Mushroom Kingdom into the seven worlds that neighbor it. Now Mario and Luigi™ must battle new enemies, returning favorites and a new Koopaling in each unique and distinctive world on their way to ultimately taking on Bowser himself. Luckily for the brothers, they have more power-ups available than ever before. Fly above the action using the Super Leaf, swim faster by donning the Frog Suit or defeat enemies using the Hammer Bros. Suit. Use the brand-new overworld map to take the chance to play a minigame in hopes of gaining extra lives or to find a Toad's House where you can pick up additional items. All this (and more) combines into one of gaming's most well-known and beloved titles—are you ready to experience gaming bliss?

Alien Soldier™ (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older –Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): As Epsilon-Eagle, you are an alien soldier who has been genetically engineered to produce maximum intelligence and strength. You were once a member of the criminal organization Scarlet, but when you decided to break from the group, you were forced into a showdown with Scarlet's new leader Xi-Tiger, who kills a hostage in his attempt to destroy you. Now it's up to you to take revenge against the bad guys in this side-scrolling action game! Choose from six different weapons and battle the bosses of Scarlet until you reach the final confrontation with the ultimate secret weapon!

Power Golf (TurboGrafx16, 1-3 players, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Power Golf sports a perfect combination of simple-yet-realistic controls and beautiful graphics. Swing away on 18 lush holes in one of three different game modes: the single-player STROKE PLAY mode and the multiplayer MATCH PLAY and COMPETITION modes. Enter tournaments as one of three different characters—beginner, intermediate and advanced. Wind strength and the slope of the green add extra challenges to each hole. Compete against other players in the standard NORMAL MATCH or ante up one of your clubs in the unique CLUB MATCH. Up to three players can play in COMPETITION mode, and a handicap feature is included to help novice players pull off breathtaking shots just like their advanced rivals.

Our first high price Genesis game..:applause:..
Alien Solider is considered an import game? I thought it was only available on Sega Channel..?

Ugh, more premium pricing. Though Alien Soldier is well worth that price. I'll think about it.

EDIT: This game was originally available in Japan and Europe only i believe.
All these years and I can still remember how to do the 99 lives trick in world 1-2 :D
explain plz. kthxby.
ARGH! Why do I really, really want to buy SMB3?! I already own too many copies of the game!
never hurts to have more ;)

I'm the opposite. I haven't played SMB3 since the NES. Just recently I almost broke down and bought the GBA version for $30. I'm so glad I didn't. Although, it would be nice to have a portable copy. :whistle2:k
explain plz. kthxby.
Go to world 1-2 as Raccoon Mario. Jump over the horizontal pipe near the beginning and you'll see a red winged Gommba and some normal Goombas coming out of said pipe. Super Jump on the red goomba and then float downward and super jump on it again, then repeat this process as the rest of the Goombas come out of the pipe and you'll eventually get 99 lives.

Feel free to flame me to oblivion if one of you posted this already, but since I didn't see it anywhere: according to my records, SMB3 marks the 50th NES game released on the Virtual Console in the US. If this is more than just a coincidence (ie. Nintendo's keeping track too) then we might get a very nice surprise on the SNES side very soon. SNES has 22 games released so far, so hopefully we'll get something awesome at 25.

Ugh come on Nintendo. Alien Soldier is definitely an awesome game though, so it makes the decision difficult.

I don't know why Alien Solider and Golden Axe III were treated differently, as they were both Sega Channel exclusives as far as I know.

On another note, I keep wanting them to go back and add the import flag to Battle Load Runner for accuracy's sake, but I don't want them to change the price.

Geez. It took me 3 tries to kill the first boss in Alien Soldier, and then I immediately died after that.

Game will take sumdat practice.

I would've preferred they released SMB3 from the SNES All Stars package but I guess I'll settle for the ordinary NES one.
SMB3 might very well be my first NES VC purchase, though I do prefer Super Mario World. ;)
No you don't.

You just think you do. And your thoughts are wrong. ;)

I can't believe how bad I am at SMB3 after all these years. I died twice in level one. I remember getting through the first 4 worlds on one life when I was 10.
I can't believe how bad I am at SMB3 after all these years. I died twice in level one. I remember getting through the first 4 worlds on one life when I was 10.
I'm mildly afraid to try it for that reason. But I will do it.

I haven't played SMB1 for years either, but I have a feeling it wouldn't be as bad with that one since I can still visualize practically every level.
Aw, 900 for Alien Soldier? Damn you Nintendo and Sega, but unforuntately, I still must buy. :(
It worths it.... I have the original for the mega drive.... It's uber awesome :p
I just beat the GBA version 3 months ago. Do I really need this? What if Nintendo dicks around with us and releases Mario All-Stars for the 25th SNES game?
While they may one day release Mario All-Stars, it won't be for a while until they've sucked all the money out of 1, 2, and 3 individually. Lots of unnecessary bad will for that when they have years left to release it. Or they'll charge a lot for that one to make it even.

Alien Soldier came out on cartridge in Europe and Japan. For some ungodly reason, the US never got it in cartridge form.

I know Golden Axe III came out in Japan on cartridge as well but I have no clue about it's European status.
i read you can't save in smb3 just the wii save state thing, is that true?
Isn't that how it always was?
Isn't that how it always was?
Its how every NES game is that does have its own save ability from back in the day.

i wouldn't know i only played nes version once or twice at a friends house so didn't pay attention. I had it on gameboy advance and mario allstars and you could save there.

Why is the setup for the classic controller messed up in SMB3? The buttons should be exactly the same as Super Mario World or Donkey Kong Country. Oh well, I guess I'll just use the Wii remote.

One game I really hope to see on the Genesis: X-Men

90 minutes to go until work is over....I think I'm gonna bite and buy the damn SMB3 already, lol.

I just purchased Sin and Punishment and super metroid, 2 games I never got to play. I might have to buy the lost levels and gunstar super heroes next. Really want to see Neo Turf Masters out there.

Bah, another VC update, another disappointment. I'd buy SMB3 if I didn't have 3 different versions of it already (NES, All-Stars, GBA). Give us Earthbound, Mario RPG, or another good RPG; something worth my $8 that I can't find for that price or less in cartridge form.

Only a true cynic would complain when possibly the most popular game of all time is relased on the VC.

I don't care if you have 18 copies of it already. You know you want it again. It's that good. ;)

Did a warp-whistle run of it last night which I hadn't done in a long time (normally I like to savor every delicious level!). The game is still the best example of 2D platforming ever made. Solid from beginning to end... even though I skipped most of that. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I love the game. I just...have it already. Several times over.

While I'm glad its out on VC, as it is one of the best games of all time, I'm not spending my points on it. It's Cheap Ass Gamer, not Rebuy Things You Already Have Gamer.

I've only bought SNES and N64 games on the VC before, not an NES game, until now. Still that doesn't explain why the basic run and jump buttons would be in different places between games like SMB3 and Super Mario World.

NES games only had B & A buttons, thus those are the only ones that are used for those games.

Now, the question why they don't let us reassign those buttons, that doesn't make any sense.

Probably the same reason the emulator is in every game--they're retarded and don't care about us.
