The Xbox 360 BC list - CAGs weigh in (in progress)

Doom 3, Darkwatch (highly recommend), Evil Dead: Regeneration, Gozilla Destroy all monsters, and Bloodrayne 2 all work fine with maybe one or two graphic glitches.

For anyone having problems with Fable, play it via component cables in 480p. Same deal with the Tecmo Collection. Fable will play for a while otherwise and then freeze. While Tecmo Collection is unplayable otherwise. Both play fine in 480p mode. I don't know about HDMI, since I don't have the HDMI version.

Most of the BC games I own work pretty well. But sometimes things like multi-player or wide-screen don't work. I'm stunned that a change in video card suppliers could affect these games so much.
I'm really not sure why MS decided to half ass it.
This is from memory so I may be off, but I think the general idea of the problem is when they did the first XBox, the way it was contracted out made it wind up so Nvidia retained certain rights that Microsoft would have to renegotiate for later if they wanted the same technology in the 360.

From what I've read, that won't be a problem with the next console MS does due to the deal they struck with the GPU & CPU manufacturer for this console...but for now, yeah. Sucks that they couldn't bother to pony up the money to make it work right. Of course, it also sucks that Ballmer drove it into their heads to drop the mandatory hard drive (thanks a lot, fuckhead) to save money as well.

They really cut as many costs as possible on this console and obviously rushed it out the door; it's a testament to the really strong software library the console has and MS' PR machine that it wound up doing as well as it has so far.

SFAC:

Third Strike has some occasional slowdown, usually when someone super jumps and a few weird graphic glitches. If you can handle the slowdown (which does mess up timing for certain combos) then it's fine.

SF2 seems fine aside from the game sometimes pausing for half a second during a match.

Thief 3: Framerate is terrible, you can see fire through walls.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind: Runs surprisingly well given it doesn't even work properly on all xbox 1 models. I THINK there is framerate issues because of the emulation but I can't be sure because I've gotten so used to Oblivion. This is for the Game of the Year edition, which cut a small portion of animation from the original Morrowind release.

Half Life 2: Slowsdown quite a lot, I was told this was due to 360 emulation.

Dead or Alive Ultimate: I only played part 2 and I remember never touching it again after having a severe problem trying to play it online. I had to download an update and it ended up really screwing up Xbox Live for me. The system would crash whenever I tried to read mail or check my friends list on the dashboard and mostly everything was taking so long to load up. I ended up having to completely delete all of the DOA 2 data plus the patch before everything was working fine again.

Also of note regarding some games like Ninja Gaiden Black and Call of Cthulu: If you get a new 360, your old save files will no longer work.

Good Job OP!

I would like to start off with

Superman Returns: 360 REFUSES TO LOAD IT (due to the fact that the 360 version EXISTS!)

Castlevania- Curse of Darkness: 360 REFUSES TO LOAD IT

Metal Slug: 360 Refuses to load it

Gun Valkyrie: Dashboard tells you that an update is required and after loading that update, it tells you that is not supported by the 360 and will not load the game. :bomb:

Hulk Ultimate Destruction: Loads and Plays perfectly (no update required)

Burnout 3: Takedown: Loads and Plays pefectly (no update required)

Sudeki: 360 Refuses to load game

R: Racing Evolution: 360 Refuses to load game

Mech Assualt 2: Lone Wolf: Opening company animations extremely slow :( Gameplay frame rate normal.

Brute Force: Loads and Plays perfectly

Panzer Dragoon: Orta : Loads and Plays perfectly

Star Wars Clone Wars/Tetris Worlds: 360 Refuses to load game.

Destroy all Humans 2: 360 Refuses to load game.

Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter: Loads and Plays perfectly

Destroy All Humans 1: Loads and Plays pefectly

Hunter the Reckoning: Redeemer: 360 Refuses to load game.

Crimson Skies: Loads and Plays perfectly

Justice League Heroes: Loads and Plays perfectly (minor slow downs here and there)

a friend of mine created a site where people could comment on
their experience with a certain bc title. Please check it out and leave comments if you can. Thanks. Xboxbc.com

Fable one plays...but there are a shit load of audio glitches and the game freezes periodically. I have The Lost Chapters, will test it sometime soon. So yeah, i would remove Fable from the list or at least mark a warning next to it saying there are playback problems.

so here's a question guys. If you buy one of the games you can download is it going to have the same problems? For instance isn't fable one of the xbox originals? Is it going to run like ass?
I believe benjamouth here at CAG stated how he tried to play one of the Silent Hill games on his 360, which use to work, and now it doesn't. For the most part, some games I tried worked, but I rarely use the BC.
Aye, Silent Hill 2 worked the first time, but it won't run at all now. After checking the web it seems I'm not the only person who's experienced this.

The download games have the exact same issues since they're using the same emulation process.

I ran through a few of my games, mostly just loading up the first level and playing for a few minutes. All games were played though HDMI with the dashboard set at 720p.

Air Force Delta Storm - Plays fine. Some text looks a little rough, probably due to scaling.
Amped 2 - Plays fine. Runs at 720p and looks great.
Apex - Plays fine. Minor graphical glitches on billboards and in reflections and shadows.
Armed and Dangerous - Plays fine. Runs in 16:9. Some drops in frame rate occasionally. I don't remember if it ran that way on the Xbox or not.
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II - Plays fine.

and of course

Sniper Elite - Utterly broken. Runs in 16:9. Single player campaign locks up after the briefing screen. Multi player locks up after you try to join a game.

Metal Slug 4+5 - Makes you download updates but it won't play the games which makes no sense
Pirates! - outside an occasional audio drop, it plays silky smooth
I'll second Indigo Prophecy, it played perfectly
Kill.Switch - an occasional clipping problem but I didn't have a problem playing it
The Great Escape - this game is unplayable for me. Frame rate takes a dump when you move, horrible clipping problem and I've had it crash on me a few times where I had to do a hard reboot (unplug the power cord)
Metal Arms - except for a bit of slowdown when you die (which I think I remember happening when playing it on the OG Xbox but I'm ont 100%), it plays perfectly

Considering how cheap original Xboxes are, it makes sense to spend ~$50 or so to buy one and use it for titles that either don't work or work poorly instead of having to put up with the 360 BC BS.

Red Dead Revolver - Constantly froze up at the Bad Bessie boss fight...unplayable. Some people claimed to get passed it by staying way back and shooting at her but after trying a few times I didn't do it. She just kept running right at me and boom frozen system.

Ninja Gaiden Black - I've heard horror stories but except for a few bouts of slowdown it seemed to run perfectly...I played through the whole game.

Burnout 3 - Seems flawless
Street Fighter Anniversary - Works
Spider-Man 2 - Works

I've only played 2 BC games recently, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Unleashed which was fine besides a little bit of slowdown and James Bond 007 Nightfire, which always froze up on one of the early levels (the third or fourth I think) making it impossible to finish.

Maybe it has to do with your hard drive as some people have problems and some don't with the exact same game. I had a framerate issue and freezes with Universe at War when I bought it and after doing this it runs 98% silky smooth. I cleared my cache and this is how you do it, see if this helps:

With the Xbox 360 Hard Drive attached to the console, follow these steps:

a. Locate the System section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard.
b. Select Memory, select Hard Drive, and then press Y to view the device options screen.
c. On the Xbox 360 Controller, press the X button, press the X button again, press the left bumper, press the right bumper, press the X button, and then press the X button again.
d. You will be prompted to confirm system maintenance, select Yes by pressing A.

Note: This process will not erase any saved games that you have present on your hard drive.

star wars battlefront, works decent, has some framerate issues, not many, until the hoth stage then it is unbearable the floor is invisible, the walls blink weird colors, and the character and npcs jump forward and backward constantly

also marvel vs capcom 2 is horrible, me and a friend traded my ps2 version for his xbox version, because my ps2 is my daughters dvd player for right now and i wanted to play, im going to get my ps2 version back soon, it looks like someone let a kid take a crayon and just write all over each sprite.this constant haze/evil drawing look on them, and the sprites are very laggy now

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb runs fairly well, but the background music stutters. Not the end of the world, but it does kill the whole Indy mood.

BMXXX seems to work w/ no problems.

Anyone know if Beyond Good and Evil will work? My girlfriend hasn't played it and with the sequel officially announced she needs to be educated in its greatness.

Great thread Cochese! I thought about doing something like this, but it's way too much work for me!

I've got a lot of BC stuff to play since my original xbox is dying. Here's what I got so far all tested in HD thru component:

ESPN NFL 2k5 has run fine through several games
Soul Calibur 2 runs fine and is stunningly beautiful in all its 720p glory. Wow.
Red Dead Revolver has HD issues as stated on xbox.com. Just about everything flashes like crazy making it unbearable. Too bad as I was looking forward to playing again, this time in HD.

Also, what's with the xbox games which download an update and then don't work. I briefly tested a bunch of games I got during the B1G1F at GS (I was too lazy to check the bc list so I just tossed every one in the 360 and then tested the rest on my original xbox) and three or four downloaded an update and then gave the old this game is not BC message. TOCA 2 did that and the drive actually read Race Driver 2 which I'm sure it did not before the update, but of course it's not BC so it still didn't work.

As a sidenote, all the DLC for the old xbox games works perfectly. It even runs an old emulator for the xbox dashboard.
