The Wii has zero problems (that I'm aware of), and Sony has a site that compares 60GB/80GB BC issues. There is also a corresponding thread in the PS3 forum.

But we haven't had anything that can fully describe the craptitude that is the 360 BC function, until now.

Below you'll find games organized in the same order Microsoft lists, with comments to the playability of each title.

Mercenaries is a fucking train wreck. The radar doesn't work, the game freezes up in certain sections of the game, frame rate is off. MS makes note of it all too, it's almost unplayable due to the freezing... I leaned that the hard way.

It's hardly BC, and MS should be ashamed they even released it in that conditon.

I have no clue why the guy listed it as "no known issues" on that site you linked to, because he's totally wrong.

I believe benjamouth here at CAG stated how he tried to play one of the Silent Hill games on his 360, which use to work, and now it doesn't. For the most part, some games I tried worked, but I rarely use the BC.

Which is EXACTLY why I think we need a thread like this. I had no idea Mercs was bad, I might as well go get the PS2 version.

I think having a reference here would be a good idea. I'm always irritated when I pick up a on Xbox game that's listed as BC only to have it run like garbage.

OK, I can copy over the list and it can have comments saying what happens, et al.

I'll work on it in OpenOffice tonight and may edit the post then as well.

But feel free to contribute titles in the meantime.

Disaster... the wiki is right on for it. Sound issues, the radar turns blue, the game freezes in one of the territories maps which means the game is unplayable.

MS did a lot of things right, but their BC is fucking horrible... why the hell would you release that game as a BC title when it's unplayable?

I never had a problem with Fable LC in the short time I played it... but I had LC.
I remember trying to play Fable (original - not Lost Chapters) and the frame rate was a train wreck.
The framerate on Lost Chapters isn't as bad as normal version?! Damnit, I liked the original but couldn't stand it cause of frame rate, maybe I should grab Lost Chapters.

Gamestop puts "BC" on the price sticker of all backwards compatible xbox games. It should be next to the title. If you're lucky you'll get a knowledgeable employee who may know if the framerate is atrocious or not. happy hunting for B1G1 games!

I haven't tried it in my 360, but Star Wars KOTOR II was a train wreck even on the original Xbox and on the PC. It's on the BC list but I can't imagine it runs very well, if at all.

I have Lost Chapters and didn't have any issues during ~7-10 hours of play time I've put in.

A little off topic, but I never owned an original xbox - were there any good dungeon crawlers/action RPGs/platformers that are back compat?

I like the idea, and maybe you can use a color code system (like Green for works great, Yellow for slight issues that may affect experience but is still playable, and Red for major issues that remove the enjoyment - stay away). That way someone can just do a quick glance and get an idea of how decent a game is. You could also keep the standard White for those games that nobody has yet had experience with so others might be able to contribute if they know how it ran.

I actually had a friend in real life, who kept using his Best Buy's warranty to replace his 360 3-4 times because of BC problems. He thought his 360 was the problem every time, because of graphical glitches and other things (happened with the KOTOR games).

The original KOTOR works fine. I've played through a lot of it with no problems at all. Some lag but it isn't a reason not to buy it.

Mercenaries has been flawless for me. Not sure why some people have serious issues, while some of us have none.

Yep. My wife put some time into it last week, and while I'm let down that XB games aren't stretched to widescreen the way PS2 games are, there are some awesome exclusives like this that are worth playing.

Mega Man Collection (not the X one) works just dandy, too.

That's crazy, the game ran like total shit for me, and this was only a few months ago (around December)... maybe one of the BC updates fixed it? Or made it worse?

All I know is that I ran into all the problems that MS said I would, and I was hugely disappointed. Game worked fine until I went into Chinese territory, then it would just lock up.

A real fucking shame... the game was great.

More people having the same problem.

People still having a problem a month ago.

You're one lucky son of a bitch :( But I would definitely list this on our list as unplayable.

I really can't recommend that. The PS2 version pales in comparison to the xbox version, graphically and has additional loadtimes.

Freedom Fighters was emulated so bad, that you couldn't escape the first level.
I just bought Fable today. IT does not work with the 360? What is framerate? Should I return it?
Not to be an ass, but if you don't know what frame rate is, you most likely won't notice it as a problem on Fable.

Not to be an ass, but if you don't know what frame rate is, you most likely won't notice it as a problem on Fable. That being said, frame rate is commonly measured as how many frames per second a game runs at.
The original KOTOR works fine. I've played through a lot of it with no problems at all. Although it wasn't perfect anywhere it is unplayable on the 360 because the framerate is beyond terrible.

Yeah, I had Mercenaries in my "to play pile" and when I got around to it it crashed my xbox like a mofo. I gave up on it after like the 10th crash. It's a damn shame too I really wanted to play that game. The punisher gave me very little problems and it looked great on my HDTV. Also I hear that Black is great on the 360. I mean it better be the damn game is down loadable over XBL.

The game slows down in some parts, I've had two freezes over 10 hours of play, but the most common glitch is the sound glitch which causes an annoying buzz sound. Doesn't happen all the time though. It's certainly playable, just not as smooth as you might hope for.

I'm sure this game runs fine, but until I can find a way to transfer my KOTOR save from my original XBox (in my son's room) over to my 360 I won't get around to playing it any more. What sucks is that it's a great game, I just don't want to kill off the 15 - 20 hours I have into it already.

I wish there was a decent emulator for PC or microsoft even made an official emulator. I mean we own the games, why can't we just play them....

Good looking out, Cochese. I haven't played as many BC games as I planned so this is a good thread to see what to stay away from.

Crimson Skies works fine. I did have a problem with the save file and the downloadable content but I erased the whole thing and tried again and haven't had any problems.

Street Fighter Anniversary and Guity Gear run fine.

Like akilshonen said, KOF 2002 has that weird grid problem. It doesn't really affect the game play but it just looks weird and is a little distracting.

I wish MS cared enough to fix the problems with the BC games already... it's really sloppy on their part to release games that are broken like this, just so they can post higher BC numbers.

Wii and PS3 (60 gb) do BC perfectly, I'm really not sure why MS decided to half ass it.

Starwars Bettlefront II. Picked it up at on clearance from Target and it runs just fine.

However everyone online plays on the downloadable maps that still aren't free. I'd just pay the $5, but there's no way to do so through the 360. So if you're like me and picking it up for the online, beware.

Microsoft did it half ass to save money.

They did it with software instead of just putting the xbox guts on the 360 motherboard.

Jade Empire works well. Played and beat it on 360. Unreal Championship 2 and Phantom Dust also had no problems that I could see.

Because there aren't enough heating issues already.
