Thinking of Upgrading, Anyone Else?
Bebop, have you had a chance to play Street Fighter? That's the only game that I'd really think about upgrading my PSP, but like I said in another post, I LOVE Last Blade 2 and Samurai Showdown 4. Neo Geo games run flawlessly on the PSP.
No sorry. The recent games I bought are Megaman and Tales of Eternia.

I have not played a Tales game before, so it's a little different for an RPG. The battles anyway.

I'm only a few hours in and it is just starting to pick up. The battle system was very unexpected for me. I still am having a hard time with it, so, for now I am just pretty much playing button masher in the battles and randomly using my characters skills. If you get it soon, please post some tips for battle.

I like the characters and I like the story, so far. There has not been any boring parts yet that seem to take forever. Things just keep moving along.

The character voices are a fucking joke!!! The first thing I did after the opening was turn off the voices. They are bad. It sounds like they are just reading a script with no idea of what is actually happening. And the sound of the voices is just terrible. Namco low budgeted the Europeans on this one.

The controls, as in walking around the map and in towns, somewhat suck, at least to me. The nub can be used instead of the d-pad, which makes the control better (alot easier to go diagonal), but seriously, the nub is so bad, it just makes it worse overall. Sony, what were you thinking!?!?

I think the graphics are beautiful. I like the music too. Not much else I can say about those. They typically aren't a big deal.

This game works great on the PSP. I can turn it on/off at a moments notice and not even worry about saving as long as I have battery. Which is the reason I like RPG games that take hours and hours and... on portable systems. Just put it to sleep, turn it back on, and no change. Just start where you left without having to save. Not sure if this is considering cheating, but it allows me to play more. Especially without not having to redo things.

I think that is all I can say about it for now. I need to play it some more. Of course, I would be playing it right now, if I stopped putting off my homework.

I'm also trying to play 2 other games at the same time. Which makes devotion to one game very difficult. Too many games, too little patience and time.

So, I take it ISO loaders ONLY work with 1.50, correct? Looks like there is a new eLoader called Brown Ale available. I guess GTA is the gateway to everything ;)

I still have my 1.5 alive and well with a sealed GTA on my shelf

small update to my 2.60 upgrade - I still don't have any regrets by upgrading from 1.50. I never went crazy with the emus anyway or most of the homebrew for that matter. I never even tried any of the ISO loader stuff either. I did play quite a bit of the NES though. but like others I started double thinking about paying 250.00 for a portable NES player. I know there were work arounds to get 2.00+ games to work on 1.5 but I just didn't want to bother with all of it. I am now enjoying my GTA and soon will be enjoying my other 6 games that should be here any day know.

besides, if the emus start calling for me again I'm just going to buy a GP2X.

Yeah, I saw they released a GTA hack....but only with the ISO, I think? So, should I upgrade my 1.50 PSP? I don't like dealing with a lot of homebrew. I like my NES emu, but my Genesis runs a bit slow. Tecmo Bowl is great though....hmmm, what to do.

edit:
well, i went to 2.0....still can use NES with Brown Ale e-loader :)

I read on some other forums that many have now hacked other 2.0+ games to run such as Mega Man Maverick Hunter.
Unfortunately, it only works with the iso but the creator of the hack said he is trying to work on a umd loader.

to run on which firmware? 2.0?

i'm wondering b/c i have 2.0

yea they new loader allow many 2.0 games iso to work on 1.5. Including tokobot, socom, and mega man x.

here are a few that doesnt work
Breath of Fire 3
Exit
Gradius Portable
Lord Of The Rings Tactics
Katamari
King Kong
Monster Hunter Portable
Smackdown vs Raw
Street Fighter Alpha 3

Yeah, I know I can downgrade...but ISO loaders are pretty much the only reason why people don't upgrade. For the amount I actually play my PSP, I don't really need an ISO loader. I'll buy a game if I want it.

The only reason I did not upgrade from 1.5 was to play NES and Genesis games. I did not like using eloader. The 1.5 allowed to execute the emus from the memory stick and exit them just like a real PSP game.

b3b0p - have you tried the free downloads and RSS feeds from sony websites? I am on the fence right now and thought these ideas were pretty neat. I think the sony folks doing the firmware updates have the right idea to combat piracy. Think about it. People know that the downloading of the iso's and even roms are illegal but is that what stops them? No because they will never be caught. It is more and better features for their psp that compels them to upgrade. I think other media forms should take this as a clue and make it so much more appealing to pay for their content that they don't want an inferior hacked version with less features.

No, I have not tried it and don't even know about it. I'll take a look if I can find this feature and see how to use it.

I only wish I could download an NES emulator, go to my memory stick, and run it like a normal game/app on PSP. That is all I want. I'm probably just going to get a GBA flash cart (cheapest possible) and play the NES emus on my GBA. With it's layout and 2 buttons, is better suited anyway. Also, runs full speed, so I'm happy.

okay, with mega man powered up coming out next week and exit arriving in my mailbox in about a week as well, i'm gonna just upgrade now...i mean the only game i play on my emus is legend of the mystical ninja...plus i have gta, so i could just use the little save hack :D
