this country is so f*cked up its not even funny.

If being paid to sleep on the government's dime isn't abuse, then neither is covering kids on government assistance. BOTH are under the purview of using services/funds for legitimate purposes. And spare me your entitlement complex for your "profession" as if you deserve more than what you're already getting compensated. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's abuse.

If people having grown up with a school administrator as a father in a nice lily white suburb aren't intelligent enough to realize that his life isn't the typical experience of the vast majority of the population, I have lower expectations in regards to certain types of knowledge for those that didn't have those resources. It's like asking someone to understand algebra when that person only understand addition while you, yourself, don't even understand multiplication. What those "welfare abusers" do is less offensive to me than a glorified EMT that benefits from a union, but doesn't kick in his share. That's the definition of being a government leech.
Hhahaahahahhaahahaa..I know you are just trolling, but you amuse me so much that I have to play along. Do you want firefighters and police to be paid just for the times they are on calls? Should store clerks be paid for only the time that they are actively ringing up customers? If I could sleep at my house and respond to calls from there, then you might have a point. Otherwise, you are showing a very unsophisticated method of thinking. Having kids while on gov't assistance is by no means comparable. And where exactly did I ask for more compensation? I'm in a right to work state, so my "union" is weak. I like it that way. I would rather be compensated for my personal accomplishments rather than a blanket benefit to assholes who do a piss poor job, but can't be reprimanded or fired because of union protection BS. I make just over 42 grand a year and work 52 hours a week. Do the math. Day trading has been very good to me though, so don't cry for me. ;)

I didn't grow up in a lily white suburb, in fact, the school system I attended longest was 88% black. So were most of my friends until I moved. Lower expectations are fine, but common fucking sense is not economically dependent. Having kids while not having adequate pay is a pretty simple equation to figure out. Are these people THAT stupid? Is that what you are saying?

A "glorified EMT"? Emergency Medical Technician...What are you trying to say here? Please be specific, you had some supposed secret about me in the past that I could never get you to disclose. Did an EMT sleep with your wife or mom? Why the hatred?

I think doh finally lost his marbles. I would think intelligent people would see the difference between firefighters and lazy welfare recipients but I guess not in his case. Maybe he or someone in his family is leeching off the system while popping out babies. How else would you explain his distaste for government employees who actually contribute something back to the society vs baby poppers.

"Common sense" isn't a concept that I hang my arguments on. Kids are going to fuck. Adults are going to fuck. It's simply unavoidable. The most you can do is give them the tools to prevent having kids; not force them to use them. Last time I checked, there's a pretty strong lobby for even prohibiting sex ed classes. It's a system; not a vacuum.

Exactly! How else could someone explain why I'm saying! It can't mean ANYTHING else. It LITERALLY means what it says. Yup.

Sex ed? You don't think they know where babies come from? What good would condoms do if we are making it favorable to be a young, unwed woman? Parents should teach sex ed, not schools. I read an article where some public schools are pushing a gay friendly agenda in their curriculum. Some book, "My dad's roomate" or some such nonsense was introducing the idea of gay men to kindergarten kids. How about keeping religion and sex out of public schools? Lord knows they could use that time to make sure kids could actually be proficient at reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Thinking that something is "unavoidable" might be pragmatic, but also a defeatist attitude. What incentives are stronger than hunger? ;) What else can we use to motivate people? Is it that liberals think, "Most people are inherently evil, lazy, and stupid. Thus the elite(gov't), must provide and make their decisions or they will starve or revolt." Maybe there is a lot of truth in that unfortunately....

The fact you source Faux News for your opinions is the death knell of any credibility. There are many studies which show that they misinform their viewers. This study shows that consumers of conservative news outlets are the most misinformed. The most informed would be what are called "liberal." Also turns out that when you expose conservatives to more news, they become more misinformed. The opposite with liberals. Page 20 (22 in the Reader) shows this. So, WHY would you consume such trash? All US mainstream media is problematic but you choose to go with the worst of the worst! If you (and liberals) watched foreign media, you would likely be better informed about our domestic issues!

Fox News misinforms their viewers? Well that sure opened my eyes to the truth. I wonder if CNN or MSNBC has even done such a thing on a daily basis?

Here is what you should take into account: Not all news on FOX aim to manipulate the viewers therefore some news segments are actually news. And second, conservatives have a bigger share of older folk which stick to television for their dose of information. Younger people such as myself or you, tend to get our information from the internet which is much more competitive and trustworthy. I bet you if you pinned a young conservative against a liberal then they would be matched when it comes to the current events. Also don't just rely on foreign media, RT and Al Jazeera are great but I can make an argument that they misinform the viewers as well.

show me a job where i can work 4 hours a day and make 36,500 a year just on that one job
Architectural photography. You work roughly 75-90 days a year and can easily make 65-100k. That averages out to be less than 4 hours a day.

All media has a bias. Stating conservatives have more misconceptions than liberals as a fact is BS. Let them poll the subsidized housing area near where I work. At least 93% of that population voted liberal in the last presidential election. Uninformed is probably a better label than misinformed for most though. Do any of these polls take into account the throngs of social welfare leeches we have? Do you believe that they are truly "up" on all the issues, or are simply voting with their expected party who guarantees handouts? I'm against any war against a sovereign nation that didn't attack us first. I think we should have hunted Al-Qaeda down in their camps by working with the countries that they are in. If they refuse to allow access, we threaten war for harboring a force that publicly states they attacked us. A red line so to speak. The gov't lies and manipulates, therefore a pure "attack us and feel our wrath" policy would hopefully make the process of going to war much more transparent and uncomplicated. Syria hasn't attacked us. Let's "drill, baby, drill" so we can become energy independent in my lifetime and have no further need of dealing with the Middle East.

I kinda missed the boat on food stamps part of the thread. But the CEO of Panera bread is taking a food stamp challenge and not having a good time.

Yeah, having to eat tuna fish and PB and J's everyday provided by money taken by the threat of force by people who EARN their money must be pretty rough.....I would feel guilty as hell. ;)

You ever notice you have certain obsessive phrases? One has to wonder if you even think about what you are saying .

Typical right-wing dodge. Did you even bother to read the study? No, because that is not what you cons do. The study shows, on this specific issue, the frequency of misperceptions viewers have and cons have the most. AND it shows the more you consume Faux news, the more confused you become! So, the question is, is it a problem with the mental faculties of the viewers or Faux news?

ps On that Sarah Palin issue you have taken, you should ask her questions to which she does not know the answer:

1. How long would that oil last?

2. Once drilled (not Palin, but the oil), how does the oil make it to the US and NOT THE REST OF THE WORLD AS IT WOULD?

You need not answer the oil questions for me, as I already know. Let me know about my last question on Faux.

i have been working everyday for the past 17 years now and been saving some cash every week and putting in the bank. A few weeks back i started noticing that my lower back started hurting, so i went into to my doctor (dont even get me started on what the son of a bitch charged me) and they said i might have the start of a degenerative disc disease or herniated disc might be starting. the doctor then comes out and says if it gets worse you may have to quit your job for awhile ...

this is where the bullshit comes into. Since i WORKED for the past 17 years and i saved my own cash, i find out that i have too much SAVINGS to even be able to get welfare or food stamps until i Use up all of the cash that i worked and saved ..

This is what pissed me off the most, as i was walking out the worker goes... That is why we tell the people coming into our office Dont even work cause if you do you will not be able to get anything free. and if you have a family it would be wise to try to have another child so we can add another person to your family size.

we are not allowed anything cause we work BUT our neighbors are allowed to bring in friends to their household to get more cash... it was just them and their 3 children when they moved in . Now its them. their 3 children the grandparents and 2 people they know so they now can claim 9 people instead of 5 and all they do is sit on the asses and drink beer and laugh about how much money the government is giving them for not working

they are telling people DON'T WORK so these people who never worked a day in their fucking lives can sit on their asses while people who worked for the past XXXX YEARS GET F*cked up the asses by the goverment..

like my uncle said dont be shocked if you see another civil war

I just want to see if I have this correct, you have plenty of money (that you saved over the last 17 years), yet your trying to apply for food stamps and welfare? Why? because you might have to take some time off of work due to back problems. You think the government and taxpayers are responsible for your bad back and not yourself? I hate to rain on your parade but its your back, not the tax payers. Its just mind boggling that you would think to have taxpayers pay for for your time off work, when you have plenty of money saved up. This is one of the reasons people save money, in case they ever run into financial problems down the road. You were smart enough to save money but now that an emergency has reared its head, you suddenly want everyone else to pay for it as you don't want to spend that money you have been saving all these years. That is so f'ed up, lol.

Your right, this country is incredibly f'ed up and people like you are part of the reason. Food stamps and welfare are for people that need financial help. Having a savings account with a butt load of cash in it does not equal being in need on financial help.

Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable.

So responsible people get fucked while idiots can live without repercussions of their choices and actions? Unbelievable. How about NO ONE gets free money from other people's taxes. No abuse or whining possible then.

....and this is from today. "The classic welfare state of the second half of the 20th century in these areas in particular brought forth arrangements that are unsustainable in their current form."

Look at the fancy carriage he and his queen tool around in. Jackasses, just like our elitist, jet setting politicians.

It is much easier for you to post links than form coherent thoughts or sentences.
I'll lay it out as easily as i can for ya.

The first link is just an example of the stupidity we are currently living with.

This is from the middle article about living in Dutch socialism....

"Any parents living in the country receive quarterly payments until their children turn 18. And thanks to a recently passed law, the state now gives parents a hand in paying for school materials."

"Payments arrive from other sources too. Friends who have small children report that the government can reimburse as much as 70 percent of the cost of day care, which totals around $14,000 per child per year. In late May of last year an unexpected $4,265 arrived in my account: vakantiegeld. Vacation money. This money materializes in the bank accounts of virtually everyone in the country just before the summer holidays; you get from your employer an amount totaling 8 percent of your annual salary, which is meant to cover plane tickets, surfing lessons, tapas: vacations. And we aren’t talking about a mere “paid vacation” — this is on top of the salary you continue to receive during the weeks you’re off skydiving or snorkeling. And by law every employer is required to give a minimum of four weeks’ vacation. For that matter, even if you are unemployed you still receive a base amount of vakantiegeld from the government, the reasoning being that if you can’t go on vacation, you’ll get depressed and despondent and you’ll never get a job."

Unemployed get paid to go on vacation from tax money!?!

"It is illegal in the current system for an insurance company to refuse to accept a client, or to charge more for a client based on age or health. Where in the United States insurance companies try to wriggle out of covering chronically ill patients, in the Dutch system the government oversees a fund from which insurers that take on more high-cost clients can be compensated."

"Decent housing is another area where the Dutch are in broad agreement. As does nearly every Western nation, the Netherlands has a public housing system, in which qualified people get apartments for below-market rents. About one-third of all dwellings in the country are “social housing.” But here again, attitudes are different from those in the United States. I was surprised to learn, for example, that a friend who is a successful psychologist lives in a social-housing apartment, which he has had since his student days. It turns out the term does not have the stigma attached to it that “public housing” does in the United States. (“In the U.S., public housing is a last resort, but here it’s just a good, cheap house,” said Fred Martin, an official at Impuls, an Amsterdam social-services organization.) Beyond that, while my friend obviously can afford to pay more than his bargain-basement rent of 360 euros ($470), the system doesn’t require him to move on, and one reason is that there is perceived to be a value in keeping a mix of income levels in the units."

HAhahahahahahaha...good luck getting any professional people to move into public housing here in the US...

So it all sounds great, right? The writer then adds this little snippet, "For one, the sameness suggests a homogeneous population, which the Netherlands long had. A broad social-welfare system works if everyone assumes that everyone else is playing by the same rules. Newcomers, with different ways of life and expectations, threaten it. This is one reason the recent waves of non-Western immigration have caused so much disturbance. Can such a system work in a truly multiethnic society?"

Obviously not.

"Another corollary of collectivist thinking is a cultural tendency not to stand out or excel. “Just be normal” is a national saying, and in an earlier era children were taught, in effect, that “if you were born a dime, you’ll never be a quarter” — the very antithesis of the American ideal of upward mobility. There seem to be fewer risk-takers here. Those who do go out on a limb or otherwise follow their own internal music — the architect Rem Koolhaas, say, or Vincent Van Gogh — tend to leave."

Good to know great people flee from socialism...

The last article is from today and shows how even the Dutch are realizing that "eventually you run out of other people's money" with a huge welfare state.

"In its place a "participation society" is emerging, in which people must take responsibility for their own future and create their own social and financial safety nets, with less help from the national government."

"The classic welfare state of the second half of the 20th century in these areas in particular brought forth arrangements that are unsustainable in their current form."

How much debt must we incur before we come to the same realization?

It's almost as if someone didn't actually read the article they quoted...or maybe they did but didn't comprehend a single damn thing.

I forgot its the taxpayers who have to pay for all of your children you have that you cant afford .

i can say the same thing about people who have kids. Why the fuck should i support you when you talk time off to have your kids and raise them? It was your choice to have the child, if you cant afford it then dont have any children simple as that.

Why shouldn't i get something for a few weeks I been paying into the system for the last 17 years , unlike you and most people who think they should be GIVEN THIS and not have to work. AND i will Return to work unlike most people who sit on their asses every day with a fake injury

Just like the insurance, people had this for years and Obama goes and changes the rules and puts all the people who are too lazy to work into FREE medicade why working people are losing theirs and he just comes on tv with a big smile on his face cause he knows hes welfare people are taken care of and as long as they are given stuff for free they are are happy. Case in point is look how they got pissed when they tried to put the LOOKING FOR WORK back into the law before you got welfare and the fit they threw until Obama took it back out.

I love how people go we cant afford food or a house rent, but these are the same people who go out to nightclubs or go out to movies or buy lottery tickets and beer. Im sick of seeing people in the store who spend their food stamps on food but then turn around and buy beer or lottery tickets. If you can afford beer or tickets then you can afford your own fucking food. Same with going to the movies if you can afford to go to the movies or out to a nightclub then you can afford your own fucking food.

Just like the little crybaby college people crying that their interest rates are going up. Hell people 10 years ago paid more then that the children of today are just spoiled. Just wait another 10 years and see what this country looks like when the children of these people who are too fucking lazy to work grow up. There was something on the news already asking people in the 3 to 5 grade what they want to be when they grow up and 80% of children whose parents that DO NOT WORK said what do you mean Jobs, their mommy dont work so they should not have to work either.

No Obama fuck this country over when he took WORK out getting food stamps and welfare. Its the only reason why he won last year.Look at the number of food stamps that went up under his command. I love how they say its getting better and better every day just look at the stock market. The only reason the stock market is going up is the fed is pushing fake money into the market. Dont worry though cause come 2016 they will stock it and the market will crash and say O look how great a leader obama was the stock market was 17,000 but when his replacement came it fell to 9000 and the welfare people will belive it.

it was VOTE for obama to keep getting you free foodstamps and welfare

or

VOTE for rommey said everyone has to get back to work to turn this mess around and they said screw you we are not going back to work.

and the proof was on tv everyday.

just like that lady in ohio. Why do you like OBAMA "cause he gave me a phone, Rommey sucks cause he never gave me anything "

SIMPLE AS THAT

Thirdly and this is something I meant to say in response to an earlier post. Would you do some form of the food stamp challenge?

First, I do understand what the TC is saying about "having too much money" to qualify for food stamps, etc. Because like all programs, they have to set some arbitrary cut-off point for people who qualify and people who don't. It's possible that the TC is near poverty and could have a legitimate need for welfare.

That being said, if he's in a situation where he feels the need to apply for welfare/food-stamps, odds are he hasn't been paying any taxes outside of sales tax. So while it's a shame he can't get government benefits, he wasn't paying into it either. (Neither have the people who ARE on benefits, but apparently he has savings he can depend on.) If the TC really wants to complain, he should focus on the Christian notion of giving to the poor. As a people we have decided it's better to err on giving to the UNdeserving than NOT giving to the deserving.

That being said, IIRC, most of our country's debt came from bailing out Wall Street from the consequences of their actions. So I'd worry less about the poor leeches, and worry more about the rich leeches.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if slidecage wasn't paying income tax, as a matter of fact. I delivered newspapers from 16-24 and during that time I knew of a lot of people who weren't declaring their income. I never went down that road but I specifically remember on days when they would pass out the independent contractor w-2 forms (W-4) I would always see at least a few sitting in the trash bin.

I take slide for his word. I'm pretty sure he said he was paying taxes in previous posts. Doesn't the newspaper have to report to the IRS? My girlfriend's is an independent contractor as her side gig and reports everything.

I have better uses of my time than "meming". I read the articles in their entirety. They are unable to sustain that level of socialism is my point. Do you have a counter to that fact?

Why should I take a food stamp challenge? A single person gets $200 a month for S-U-P-P-L-E-M-E-N-T-A-R-Y food. Work makes up the rest. But $200 buys 3 jars of peanut butter, 3 jars of jelly, 3 loaves of bread, a dozen cans of tuna fish, and a few gallons of milk. If you want to eat something else then GET A JOB AND DON'T HAVE KIDS UNTIL YOU CAN AFFORD THEM. Hell, I would toss them a 10 lb bag of rice a month and say "think of it as incentive". ;)

If you want to eat something else then GET A JOB AND DON'T HAVE KIDS UNTIL YOU CAN AFFORD THEM. Hell, I would toss them a 10 lb bag of rice a month and say "think of it as incentive". ;)
The "fact" you are asking me to counter is a fact-free opinion piece by a royal ass who never worked a day in his life and presumably didn't study his subject too hard either.

You are being asked to take the challenge because you spout a lot of ignorant BS and you could use the education. You are telling people to go out and work when millions of those on food stamps are the elderly or children. Of the working age adults many cannot get a job that pays a living wage, hell some work two jobs but they have other expenses.

You mention cheap staples etc. but you have zero idea, you wouildnt last 3 days.

yeah expenses like snowmobiles, satellite dishes, $200 sneakers, Entertainment systems, iPhones.... because we can't shame people into going without--that would be inhumane.

I take slide for his word. I'm pretty sure he said he was paying taxes in previous posts. Doesn't the newspaper have to report to the IRS? My girlfriend's is an independent contractor as her side gig and reports everything.
You misunderstand what I'm saying. Sure, the employer withholds a portion of your salary for income taxes. But then after filing your tax return, depending on your income level, you might just get refunded everything. So in effect, he would not be paying taxes, or he would not be paying as much as he first thinks.

Again, I don't know if he does or does not pay taxes. But if he was at an income level where he thinks he should qualify for food stamps... that's a low, low tax bracket. The kind that doesn't owe taxes.

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe slide will respond and give us an idea as to what percentage, if any, he actually contributes to our federal gov't through income tax.

At least we agree that the guy is a "royal ass" like all of our jet setting American career politicians. ;) Cutting just welfare from citizens is not the answer, corporate welfare and cronyism is crushing everyone in debt as well.

As far as your challenge, I did the math for my grocery bill last month. Guess what? Less than $200 bucks and I can stand to lose a few pounds. $1.99/ lb chicken breast, canned tuna fish, apples, oranges, peaches, frozen strawberries, milk, oatmeal, and Outback twice. Tell me again how I "wouildnt" last 3 days?

That's nice and all, now go find a job that doesn't feed you while you're at "the office" and revisit that question.

Actually, doh, we pay $10.00 a day to eat in the "food syndicate" or bring your own. No taxpayer subsidies for us I'm afraid. Maybe fact check a bit before opening your trap. ;) I'm on vacation right now, so I actually used this time to figure out my grocery expenditures to be more in line with the "norm".

Average benefit per person is 130 per month. Out back is min. 20 $ each time? I was assuming you were being dishonest or your math matches your reading comprehension. You weren't counting the 10$ per work day I.e. 200 a month right there for breakfast and lunch. Good job.

..sigh...you and doh love to talk about stuff you have no clue about.

1. Outback is 2 entree steaks at 9.99. Tablemates gets us a $5 off bonus plus a free appetizer and dessert each month.

2. I work basically 10 24 hour shifts a month. So 10x10= 100 a month, but I am free to bring my food from home if I want.

3. I help the homeless guys who live under a bridge near our station with their SNAP benefits (among other things) when they need help. They get $200 per card in my state. That's the figure I was using.

4.Here's my breakdown for this month(I'm on vacation with 19 days off so the food syndicate is not really a factor).

2 packages chicken breast at $10 each -20

10 cans tuna at .50 each-5

2 bags of apples-10

10 oranges-10

peaches-10

1 bag frozen strawberries-10

3 gallons skim milk-3.25x3=9.75, 10 (I'll round up to help you out)

big plain oatmeal-6

3 packages turkey lunchmeat-10

1 bag whey protein, for shakes(this lasts about 6 or more months for me)-30

Outback-25x2=50

So a grand total of.....$171. That's a ton of food for one person. Take out the Outback, (poor people shouldn't be eating out ;)) and its only $151 with the whey protein only having to be bought twice a year. Go the PB and J route every other day and I could cut this by about a third.

PS:Doh, I'll wait for your apology just like I'm still waiting for the one from Myke. Take your time. ;)

$10 a day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which I'm sure is healthier than most people UNDER that budget don't have access to, isn't something that a VAST majority of people has access to that are operating even on THAT budget and I'm sure is still subsidized by the state or that the state still has leverage over the pricing. So my point still stands despite of your inane pedantry.

Btw, your "math" doesn't add up when it comes to caloric intake if you "could stand to lose a few pounds." Explain to me how you can get 45,000 calories out of that grocery list. And when you're done with your "I could survive on a $20 per month budget of rice and beans if I wanted to" diatribe like I know you're going to, let's see how long you could sustain it while maintaining a semblance of being healthy both physically and mentally.

You'll find your apology in the same place you enjoy mentally masturbating to poverty mind experiments.

Dude, please quit while you are....wait, you never were ahead. Let me explain in full detail how a fire dept food syndicate works. Every day at line up each firefighter in the syndicate throws in $10 for lunch and dinner. I have 9 people at my station who participate, so $90. We then go to a grocery store and purchase our food which we then cook at the station in between calls. No special pricing involved, no breakfast. We usually shop intelligently and have a little left over money each day, so on Wednesday, the last day in our cycle before our 5 day break, we have a steak and shrimp dinner. It is so funny on the few occasions where ignorant citizens get bent out of shape at the grocery store when they see us buying steak on what they assume is their taxes.

As far as calories, I am trying to get a little leaner, hence the lack of carbs in my diet. A jar of peanut butter contains about 7000 calories, a slice of wheat bread is about 70 calories. Add those to the above diet and start packing on the pounds! ;) $20 bucks gets you 2 jars Of PB and several loaves of bread. I am aiming for anything less than 2000 calories/ day to create my deficit in order to lose weight. I have been surfing quite a bit and working out so it should be even better. You are pretty knowledgeable so you might already know about Ketosis. What do you think of this as a dietary practice? Is it dangerous?

AHAHAHAHAHAHA...So much irony in this post. Btw, it IS their tax dollars.

Oh look! I can be pedantic too!

Wow! So even when you are proven to be full of shit, you still persist. Amazing! I still love your comparing welfare recipients to firefighters/police. Do you EVER admit when you are wrong?

I do like when you use the word "pedantic"...like Peter Griffin. "I found it shallow and pedantic." :p

PS: I edited my previous post with comments regarding your calories inquiry. My laptop crashes at random intervals so I post intermittently and then add to it so I don't have to retype a whole post. Sorry for any confusion it causes.

Hawaii is the only state that has a 200 dollar a month benefit. You are leaving out cooking oil, condiments and vegetables.

Even then you still fail.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if slidecage wasn't paying income tax, as a matter of fact. I delivered newspapers from 16-24 and during that time I knew of a lot of people who weren't declaring their income. I never went down that road but I specifically remember on days when they would pass out the independent contractor w-2 forms (W-4) I would always see at least a few sitting in the trash bin.
back in the old days Most newspapers did not report what carriers made ( before i think 98) i dont know if the laws changed then or what but it was up to you if you wanted to report your earnings or not ( you have to now)

I make quarterly tax payments of

600 to fed and 125 to state (or 2400 a year to fed and 500 to state (2900 total) and still own every april

Thanks for the update, slide. I figured you were paying, not mooching. ;)

As for doh and msutt, seeing as you guys never own up to making incorrect and ignorant statements, even after being shown the light, I think I'll just enjoy my sense of victory and superiority for a while. :D/ I will leave you with this, msutt, http://www.fns.usda.gov/pd/18SNAPavg$PP.htm , these are AVERAGES. People who make less or refuse to work at all (like my buddy who lives under the bridge) get the MAXIMUM benefit. So $200 is very possible in most states. Put that in yo pipe and smoke it....

It's amazing to me that some folks are so out of touch that they think it is simply impossible to feed a single individual on $200/month. Must be the liberal elite dining on caviar every night or something. ;)

http://www.grocerybudget101.com/content.php/8-50-Weekly-Menus

Here's one family (of four!) who is making a go at fairly healthy (more so than what most likely eat) meals for under $250/month. That's $250/month total, for all four people.

Fresh fruits, meats, etc. And, as they point out, this isn't using extreme couponing or anything of the like - it's just taking the time to plan ahead and actually preparing your meals.

People in general do not have adequate access to healthy food and the time to prepare it. It's most certainly not easier when you are poor.

This discussion has gotten way off track. Slidecage did not understand the difference between disability and food stamps... why are you guys critiquing SNAP? We all recognize that there are too few jobs for those who need to work, don't we want to make sure that people who cannot obtain work can still eat?

Your above reply is indicative of a post going WAY over your head. Seriously, it's like watching a dog chase it's tail.

The fact that you're able to leverage $10 into the purchasing power of more than $10 isn't the same as spending $10 on your own, muchless a person that has a total of $200 to spend per month because you have the purchasing power of $270 PER WEEK(3 days or however pedantic/semantic you want to get with that definition).

As a public employee, you either get paid with someone's taxes or you get paid with someone's taxes...there is NO middle ground. All capital is derived from the same source whether you're a fireman, clerk at the DMV, IT guy at city hall, or on public assistance. I mean holy fuck, you compared being able to make do on "under" $200 while having a functioning kitchen and usable storage to a homeless guy living under a bridge getting $200 and making that number your benchmark.

Inb4 "If people want to eat, then they need to work. There are plenty of jobs." :ignores all statistics about there not being enough jobs for job seekers:
