So I had bought a copy of Dragon Quest VIII at some point over the summer, say back in June... hadn't opened it until this morning.

No fucking discs inside.

I'm sure BB isn't going to do shit about it either.
Tell them the disks are defective. Haha
Do you have an HDTV? I don't as of yet, which is why I asked, because that could make a big difference in picture quality.
Yeah, I did decide that I wasn't going to get a 360 until I had an HDTV, and that became a non-issue when I picked up the 37" Syntax Olevia 537H from J&R.com for $699 + shipping on BF.

Specs on it are here:
So got to work at 8:30 this morning, which is when my department opens. Of course, my boss showed up at 9:30. She got chided for leaving me waiting for an hour.
That was obviously the right move. Nothing worse than setting a bad first impression.
well, you all know how i was in a car accident in November (all sorts of car and insurance trouble I bitched about in previous OTTs). I have 2 herniated disks as a result of the accident. they're not bad enough to do surgery on, so i'm just in constant pain. the best remedy they could come up with is doing a minor procedure to inject steroids (antiinflametories) and pain killers directly into spinal column to reduce the swelling and pain.
Ugh, that sucks. I don't recall who, but someone I knew had a herniated lumbar.. very painful, IIRC. Not to mention spinal surgery tends to be pretty invasive and dangerous. :/ Good luck and all.

Bleh, I'm glad I didn't go into work today... I've been coughing really fucking bad, to the point where I'm gagging and dry heaving. Oh well, gives me a chance to send off money I've been meaning to mail.

I'm sure this is old news to everyone else that gets OPM... But I finally cracked open my copy of the final issue and saw the notice that the sub is being transferred to EGM w/ every issue remaining of OPM = 2 issues of EGM. Frankly I'd much rather have 2 issues of EGM than 1 issue of OPM + demo so that is pretty sweet for me. My sub ran through May 07, so I think that is 4 more months = 8 months tacked on my EGM.

Haha already starting to deal with the awkward "these things should have been set up weeks ago" stuff.

Boss: Can you call ___ and get this PDF?
Me: Sure, can you get me a phone?

Nice of them to turn it into 2 issues, with the deletion of the demos figured in there.

I had something similar happen with my GI sub, as I picked up an Edge card in mid-Oct for the games I traded in with the 3/+$10 promotion. Took them about six weeks to get it into the system, so they added in the 10 months I had for the Edge card purchase for the existing 24 month sub I did for GI seperate from the Edge card.

Well, I was wrong, that customer rep kicked ass. While I'm still fucked out of an original DQ8 w/ FF12 demo, they're sending me a GC for the amount that I purchased it for. (Only $10, but still, it's a nice gesture.)

Better than telling you to fuck off and insinuating that you're trying to rip them off.

Shrike, SC: DA isn't worth buying for the 360, unless you plan to play it online... apparently, in single player at least, the Xbox version is highly superior.

I've heard that SC : DA multiplayer sucks compared to SC : CT multiplayer. Can't speak from experience, but that seemed to be the general consensus when the game first hit.

I never even bothered with the game, I just waiting for the Xbox version to go BC and now it has.

Apparently, a level in the 360 version that is 20 minutes takes 40 minutes to do in the Xbox version due to expanded objectives, more gameplay, and larger maps.

So I've been told, though I know I can at least put off the decision for another week, with it still being on sale.

R6: V is much more of a "gotta buy it now" purchase than SC: DA for either platform. It's the $20 off Ubisoft price window, so it might be worth getting SC: DA now while it's on the cheap. I'm not jonesing over it, so I'm not worried about it. R6: V, yes, that'll be mine this weekend.

Ugh, you know you're broke when you have to pay the pizza guy in change. :(

At least I put it in a ziplock baggie and dug up some dollar bills for a tip.

fix'd
But the graphics in splinter cell DA (360) are sweeeeeeeet ;)
And not likely to drop too quickly in price. Therein lies the dilemma.

I'm lucky if I have enough change on-hand to hit the dollar menu at McD's or BK.

Enough change for a pizza? That's getting run over to Coinstar to turn into an Amazon.com credit slip. ;)

I noticed last night that my gf's tv has a component in, though it's not HD. I wonder if it's worth the effort to bring that cable over there for my Twilight Princessing. It looks pretty great anyway. Art conquers resolution once again!

I broke into my change jar I keep. :)

Oh, well. It was worth it. There's no other food in the house and I haven't eaten today.

Thank god for Two For Tuesday

Should be an EDTV, if it's a new enough TV, and that'll get you 480p goodness. Even if it's not an EDTV, doing the component will get you cleaner-looking colors.

Check the website for the TV and see if it'll do 480p as an EDTV.

Damn, that's a bad day when you're breaking into the change jar for pizza, with nothing else in the house.

See, I don't have an HDTV, and I can only afford either a 360, PS3 or HDTV so I'm stuck at the moment.

I just played Gears of War on my dad's 46 inch LCD HDTV. For comparison my TV is a 10 year old 22 inch GE.

All I have to say is WOW.
So what is so revolutionary about your radio show?
That's gotta be like the thousandth times someone's asked and he has yet to say.
See, I don't have an HDTV, and I can only afford either a 360, PS3 or HDTV so I'm stuck at the moment.
Which was part of my issue, that I didn't have one. The 32" TV's at BB & CC during BF which I didn't have a snowball's chance in hell in finding pushed me to go looking around, where I found that one at J&R.com . The nice thing was that it hasn't been that cheap since then, closest it's been since then is $899. Plus, I snared it before it broke on FW, because it was posted on AVSForum.com first. They had 100 orders and only 30 to ship on BF. They're still trying to fulfill orders up to today.

this isn't going to be that invasive - i'm gonna be conscious the whole time. it's gonna be an injection of a pain killer similar to novacaine. then, a small incision and a single needle stick into my spinal column. They have to do it in the OR because it's a sterile environment and they need to use a type of x-ray called fluoroscopy so that they know exactly where the needle is so that it doesnt hit my spinal cord. they need to get right up next to it but not touch it and inject the medications. they said it should take 3 mins, tops. then my arms will be numb for a couple of hours and after that, my pain should be gone. and, i have lionhart to wait on me hand and foot afterwards "babe, can you stick a straw into that bottle of tequila since my arms wont work?" :D

I'm sure he might decide on taking a liberty or two with you in that state. :D

Ooh, that's cool. Yesh, I know about fluoroscopy.. glad to hear it's seems to be an outpatient operatation. :D

So I just got back from FYE and traded in X-men, the Outift, Prey and Condemned (all 360) and made 61.00

Not to bad, especially because I didnt pay for Prey and x-men, and the outfit only cost me 10.00.

it's barely even an "operation" more of a "procedure"

So was the frontal lobotomy, when they introduced it. ;)

Shit, CAG keeps getting dugg.
Cheapy, can you write less interesting stuff on the front page, so less people will digg it? thanks!

That top flap is misleading. Dominoes and Total Satisfaction do not belong in the same sentence.

Done with my first day of work and back home after a disappointing dinner (thanks University Dining Hall). Either way, the job isn't too tough. I had to do the whole "tour the entire building with my boss and meet everyone who works here" thing. Either way, my boss is out tomorrow, so that's good for me. Now on to watch my DVRed Iron Chef America.

My TV, when cycling through inputs, has S Video and Component as well, and it sure isn't HD. Bought it on BF this year.

Wonder if I should try Component cables for Wii?
This is funny for two reasona.

1) Yet another creepy nintendo mascot.
2) That one of the penny arcade guys is pretending they've ever had sex.
Isn't Elebits made by Konami?

I change my mind. After playing the horse-combat against the orcs on pigs and then having the joust on the bridge, I'm definitely at this point enjoying Zelda more than Okami. And I was considering Okami my game of the year till that point. That joust fight was just way too cool.

Penny Arcade guys are married... at least the one in the cartoon is.

I hate it that we're hooked in with Digg. All they do is crash the place. :bomb:

If it has component inputs, it may be an EDTV, which will work for the Wii at 480p. Check the manufacturer's website to see if it'll work.
