Thrift Store Thread 2011

I saw an odd-looking boxset today; Naruto Uncut Seasons 1 through 9 by Viz Media, 2002. I couldn't find any listings online, possible bootleg? I noticed all the DVDs were in CD-binder like sleeves, the approx. running time was listed as "0 minutes", and the picture on the inside of the box was low quality.
XBOX 360 Action Replay MAX sealed - 3.99
For a minute there I thought you'd picked up a Action Replay Max (version 1.0) for the GameCube because it is pretty rare and it could easily fetch for $100+ on eBay.
About 2 months ago, I sold mine for $90+ with over 30 bids which I got it for $1.99 at Goodwill.

I might have one of those. I know I have a GBA or N64 from a Garage Sale.

Nothing too good at Savers as far as items I'm interested in keeping, but in browsing the books I stumbled across the Hardcover Strategy Book for Arc the Lad Chapters 1 and 2 which flips on eBay for about $35, and the strategy guide for Myst Uru Complete Chronicles which I should be able to flip for about $15. I paid $3 each for them, so I think I did pretty good.

While at a thrift yesterday I ran across a rather rare find - a CAG! Nice to meet you Floopy, and thanks for letting me get the Epic Mickey guide. I beat him to two decent n64 controllers for $2 each.

That store was running buy one get two on books, and I pulled together 9. 3 ended up being worthless, but one trades in on Amazon for $25, a couple are resellable, and a couple were interesting.

Earlier I had picked up some random dreamcast games (sega marine fishing, daytona usa, and looney tunes space race) for $5. At that store I also found a "Jeanie Rub" massager for $4.25 and PuzzKaddy puzzle table for $5.50. It looks to be brand new.

Also, is there any value in a "super 64" adapter that allows you to play Japanese games on a US N64? I found one a few weeks ago attached to a Japanese Virtual Prowrestling 64 cart.

Heh, yes, you found the controllers moments before I got to that bin! No biggie; I have about a dozen extra n64 controllers at the moment, and my earlier find at the other nearby thrift which I spoke of was pretty good (will post pics soon). I have been hitting both stores often because I am up there a lot for work, but that will change soon (I'll be in a different area, many miles away) so less competition for you!

I actually went back today to the one we met at and found an official n64 memory expansion just sitting around (probably went with that somewhat-overpriced n64 now that I think about it). Needless to say, I bought it. $1.44 I think. That store is decent overall. Never had any major finds there, but find something cool once or twice a week. 'Til next time...

I stopped at a new thiftt store that popped up a short while back and had a good find. All of their games and DVDs are $1, and among the PS2 sports games, I found a complete and near mint copy of The Orange Box for the PS3.

I also found a NIB C-3PO model from '77 for $5. Pics coming later.

Had a decent day at the thrift stores.

TMNT (New version?) Season 4 $2
TMNT Original Parts of Season 1+2 $2
Starcraft PC $2.

Not the best finds ever but definitely not anything to complain about

PS1 multitap for $4, and some common PS1 titles for $1-$2 each is all i've found recently.

I passed on a couple of CD-I games for $3-4 at Goodwill. Mostly sports titles with the exception of Dragon's Lair.

Mentioned earlier that I bought a pack at Goodwill for $30 - an SNES, Mario World, DKC and Mario Kart. Well, all I needed was Mario Kart, so the SNES, Mario World and DKC just sold on eBay for $50. I get $20 and a copy of Super Mario Kart for my trouble.

I love this buying/selling game.

I do mostly yard sales, but I'm not against hitting a thrift store or two during my lunch break or on the way home if it is close.

Found this lot at a local thrift on Thursday for $8 total. Games were buy 2 get 1 free, so $12 became $8. All were complete, Battlefront II and Pokemon XD were minty too, which is always nice.

YardSalesPics125.jpg

This pic is a combination of some recent finds. The Genesis games were minty complete, which I picked up for $3 each (passed on some junk sports titles). Found an orange spice GC controller for $3 at one local thrift, then a few days later found another at a different thrift for $3.50. Both were in great shape. And a black GC controller for $3 somewhere along the line.

Alert: Mega (hint) Thrift Find... :hot:

Total paid: about $25. Found this lot about a month ago at a thrift. They had a lot of games/CDs/DVDs in a display case that required store permission to access and go through, so the average passerby would not really care to go through the effort of asking to get into it. Well, I asked, and I'm glad I did. I pulled these out. Playstation games were $2 each (regular price $4 each but it was half off day, as luck would have it). PC games were $1 each (not pictured: Call of Duty: World at War for PC, which I ebayed). Everything was complete except Resident Evil 2 (no manual). All the games were in solid shape, a few scratches on each disc but nothing major. Score!

i've got some bad but unsurprising news

a goodwill that i frequent is now scanning video games just like they do the books, it matches them against a database and if it has any value they ship them off and they never even make it to the store floor

its not just for newer games either, its for any game that has a barcode on it

i have a buddy that works there, and it even took the wii game "safecracker" and junky gamecube titles

"thrift" stores are slowly going the way of the Dodo

WOW good job on the MML1 and 2. hope you keep and enjoy them!

Sucks about goodwill doing that. there's always local places but they usually know what's up too.

That is just goodwill. Thrift stores aren't going anywhere. Goodwill has always been hit or miss. The difference between goodwills between Kansas City, Wichita and St. Louis is astounding. St. Louis and Wichita area stuff is ridiculously priced. KC is pretty reasonable. It just depends on where you are.

Dayum, MMlegends 1 and 2 Black label complete? I just sold both incomplete on ebay for 70 - great find.

(not to mention they're likely the only legends games ever being made now, since capcom had abandoned MML3)

in my area goodwill reigns supreme so it comes as a major blow

theres like one salvation army in the region and it never has anything good

i think i need to research and see if theres any other thrift stores hiding around here

Yeah, I moved roughly 30 miles in PA. The town I grew up in's Goodwill has gotten more reasonable since I moved, but were always the highest for years. The closest other three were all in college towns so they had ridiculously good deals. The gaming stuff at State College usually disappears quick, but they do have an awesome wall of tubed TVs for $10-$20.

This is a big deal. I can see other thrifts going this way as well.

Sure there are plenty of other thrifts but in some places Goodwill (like in my area) it is the main destination for donation. Therefore the major place for finds.

You should be disappointed about this development.

Found at my local Goodwill a limited edition copy of Halo 2 with the steelbook for the original Xbox. I didn't know that these things had 2 discs. I ended up with just the documentary disc.

Oh well, I have a regular version of Halo 2 already. $7 seem kind of high for half a limited edition.

I found a metrologic MS9520 barcode scanner at a thrift today. It's in my tradelist if anyone is interested. I hooked it up with my PS/2 to USb converter and it works like a champ.

I've been going to my local Goodwill for weeks and the best I ever saw was PS1 Toy Story 2 for $3. Finally, today when I went in I found something a little better...

:ps3: Resistance: Fall of Man for $1.99

lol. I already own the game, I was just excited to finally see something. When I bought it, the lady was shocked and said that's the first PS3 game she's ever seen there. Considering the staple price for PS1 games has been $2.99, I'm not sure why this was $1.99 but I didn't complain. :applause:

Also, went back to the epic Salvation Army near my parents' house where I keep finding good stuff, this time just ended up finding a pristine silver Gamecube controller for $0.99. Always happy to get those. :D

I also found an autographed Penn and Teller 'Cruel Jokes to Play on Your Friends' and a program, also signed by them. Does anybody have any idea on the value of those? I know that P&T autographs aren't worth a whole lot, but I would like to know what I found.

I decided to take a trek to the one further thrift store tonight where I scored the Transformers G1 DVD set about a month ago. Lo and behold, sitting right atop the game/cd/dvd case was a Gen X combination NES/Genesis(and I think SNES/Master System) console.

It was mostly complete(has a 10v adapter instead of the 9v one needed and is missing one of the rubber 'feet' that goes into the screw holes on the bottom) and only $9.99, so I bought it. I plugged it in to make sure it at least powers on. I'll test it further tomorrow. It has individual red/white/yellow cables that go into corresponding jacks on the back of the console.

It came with a Not For Resale copy of Sonic 2, so I guess that's what I'll test it with(since I don't have any games other than Genny titles to test it with at this point).

THIS is the console I bought(for reference): http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_scat_10984061_ln?rh=n%3A10984061%2Ck%3Agen+x&keywords=gen+x&ie=UTF8&qid=1311824197&scn=10984061&h=edcbad8967dc09a50b9b03f0aee9bb9028f30946
Nice find! I had (and loved) this game as a kid, but I'm sure I destroyed it along with all the other awesome games I had.
Looking through it, it seems as if all the pieces are there. Except the Colossus figure.

I had a deal go belly up on me yesterday from craigslist so I decided to stop by a few thrift stores and found in one of the cases I seen a pickachu SE gameboy color when I asked to see it she said all these games come with it and pulled out 5 pokemon games. So For a excellent condition Pokemon gameboy color [Yellow and Blue] with the battery cover with Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, And Silver I only payed 20$

Went to a local GW for the first time, saw two original Xboxes for $14.99, they were the only game consoles I saw.

Picked up the following:

Baldur's Gate II: Shawdows of Amn (4 Discs, case inserts, no manual)
Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal (1 Disc, case inserts, no manual)
Metal Gear SOlid VR Missions Black Label complete
Resident Evil 2 Dualshock Compatible Black Label complete

Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/IMG]

All discs except for VR Missions are in great conditions. VR Missions disc has a few scratches.

Paid $2.99 each.

Is anybody interested in any of the above?

Neat find, but I'm going to guess no value. Penn and Teller meet with fans and sign autographs every night after their show in Las Vegas, so I'm certain there are thousands of books and programs out there with their signature on it, in fact I've got an autographed program at home myself that I got when I saw them in Vegas 4 years ago. It has more sentimental value than monetary value

Hit up 2 Goodwills and 2 Savers stores today. Both Goodwill's and the first Savers turned up bupkis, at the second Savers I picked up complete near mint copies of Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart Double Dash for $5.99 each. I paid way more than I usually would be willing to for thrift store games, but I knew they'd be an easy flip on Amazon, which they are, although the price has dropped a bit since I last checked. Either way I should be about to get between $16 and $20 each which isn't too bad.

I also picked up a near mint Happy Days Board Game on a whim at this same Savers. Unfortunately my phone battery had died, so I couldn't verify if it had any value, but I took the chance since it was only $2. Turns out it's worthless, but I guess it's still a neat oddity to have.

No doubt, it's really dirty but that's no big deal. Luckily I have an av cable and power cord I found a while back at a goodwill, so for the complete system the grand total is $6.50
