Tips on getting hired for a job?

Tucking in your shirt is a great tip. It's one of those things that I'd just assume anyone would realize they should do, but I bet there are lots of people who walk in for an interview with a polo or dress shirt on and untucked.

So how'd it go OP?

1g) For girls specifically: Look respectable. If you show up baring the belly, wearing tight clothes and/or are falling out of your top, your services will best be served elsewhere.
Like in my bedroom.

:bouncy:

I dunno how it went for the OP, but here's more advice.

-If you have no experience, get a friend that has the job you want to apply for to refer you.

-OVERDRESS. example. A Suit and Tie at a fast food restaurant or any job is bound to get you hired. shows you are serious about getting hired.

-Groom yourself. You don't see grizzly adams with a job right now. he's somewhere out in the forest. Have your hair clean cut and tame. again shows that you want to be professional when handling this job.

-During the Interview. Be Confident in yourself. Sell yourself as if you were working the corner....but in a more articulate manner. It's great to crack a joke once in a while, but only if you know you're funny. If you can't crack the joke, don't attempt it.

- If the interviewer asks you, "Do you have anything else to add?" or something to that extent(It usually comes at the end of the interview, THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE AND SELL YOURSELF TO THE INTERVIEWER. Point out your top abilities and how it can contibute to the job. Also, say you're willing to learn if there are skills that you are lacking for the job you want to get hired. Just look very eager and optomistic.

A friend of mine I saw while going to a job interview for an arcade told me to take out the hoop earrings that I had. I did so, and behold.

Now I work for Pac-Man!!~

I think I did pretty well, let's hope I get it :) I went in with a collar dress shirt with no tie and some black slacks. Gave firm handshake, eye contact, and question at the end of the interview. I could've answered questions much better but I still think it was good.

EDIT: Just remember I forgot to tuck in my shirt! I hope it was still ok though. Also when is a good time to do a follow up to let them know you're serious? And do you follow up on an interview or application?

Untucked shirt is not good, especially with a dress shirt. Hopefully didn't completely kill you, but not a good move.

Some say you should send a thank you note or thank you e-mail after the interview, but I don't know if that's done for low level stuff like retail or fast food positions. If you have an e-mail for the person that interviewed you, it probably wouldn't hurt to send a quick 'Thank you for taking the time to interview me.' But you might want the opinions of some people who have gone through the process recently.

How can you not tuck in your shirt when you're going to an interview?!

I tuck my shirt in going to the fuckin grocery store!

...No smart asses I dont work at or interview at grocery stores.

Glad to hear you feel positive about the experience, Rice. Being positive throughout the interview is a good idea too, sorry I forgot to mention it. I also forgot to mention anti-perspirant, which unfortunately is something I occasionally have to remind some of the ladies at the Center where I volunteer to use.
And do you follow up on an interview or application?

Some say you should send a thank you note or thank you e-mail after the interview, but I don't know if that's done for low level stuff like retail or fast food positions. It doesn't have to be formal, just a simple "thank you so much for your time and I am looking forward to hearing from you if I can answer any further questions" sort of thing.
Like in my bedroom.
Exactly my point. Dress professionally. Look like you're ready to work, not sleep your way to the bottom. =P

Why would anyone make a comment about working at a grocery store? Honest work is honest work. I'm glad there are people who work there, otherwise it'd be hard shopping at Kroger if no one were there to open the doors each morning.

I forgot to mention I applied for stores clerk/rep, but half way into the interview some girl came in and asked if I was interested in doing cart attendant (like Jekki said). I said I'm open for all positions and that position would be fine. Was my response a good one? Again, thanks for all the replies in this topic. I appreciate it very much :)

I'm not saying theres anything wrong with it for anyone else.

Ok, haven't got a call from them yet, not even today. Good sign? When do you think I should follow up? Today? Tomorrow?

Sounds fine to me, Rice. You understand with no experience taking any position offered you is a start in the right direction. You're willing to do what is required of you.

All good qualities.

Do you have any idea of when the Human Resources or Hiring Person (or who ever interviewed you) will be in? I'd say give the place a call around 10 am and ask to speak with So and So about an interview which took place last week.

When you speak with that person tell them something like, "thank you again for your time and for last weeks' interview, and you were eager to hear if you are still being considered for the position."

All the best in your endeavers, Sugar. Keep us updated.

I personally wouldn't call asking, but if you do, ask the person(s) who interviewed you. Everyone else basically won't give a shit and give you a fake answer.

Sounds like you're in the market for a baby sitter.

I think the person that was really cool that interviewed me was a TRAINER and not one of the human resource people. The 2nd person that interviewed me was probably a human resource person, but she probably wasn't really into my interview.

Find out who the regional manager for the business is... Then fake a cell phone call during the interview from said manager. "Hello? Oh, hi, Mr. Bigbossington... Yeah, I'm here with Miss Chumpette right now..." Get ready to start your new job!

Thanks for all the tips guys, I used them and now I got a job! I work for Sea World now :) Thanks guys!
