Tired of the 'militant atheism' vs 'fundamentalist religion' scene?

I have no ill will towards agnostics, I wouldn't say their afraid etc. I respect their views.

I'm like Clak, I'm a very skeptical person and a very evidence based person. If there's not a lot of evidence that something can possibly exist, I feel pretty confident in not believing in it.

But I'm also a social scientist. In our work we never have definitive proof of anything. We're testing theories and making policies on models that are lucky to explain 20% of the variance in the outcome. So I'm used to forming beliefs etc. on less than definitive evidence! :D

Again showing part of what is wrong with modern society. Everyone feels the need to do 10 min videos updating us on how they feel and 99% of the time it is a clueless moron or loud mouthed idiot.

O wait, shit what am I doing posting here. I just ate lunch so I need to go to facebook and tell everyone what I just ate! Can not believe I forgot!

Think about how easy detectives will have it in the future. Looking for someone? Just check faccebook, myspace, etc.

I get made fun of for how paranoid I can be online, but I'/m a little older than some of my friends, and I didn't grow up with just posting everything about my life online. Some people don't even bother with handles any more, they just use their name.

Already happening. Met with some cops a while back who were talking about how they used those sites to help make gang cases by being able to show connections between gang members etc. And also just idiots bragging about crimes online etc.

I have a Facebook account, and really like it for keeping in touch with long-distance friends and family who I don't really have the time to bother with calling or e-mailing very often. Also great for sharing photos with friends and families.

But that said, I don't get some of the people on my friends list that are constantly updating their status with stupid little things, or posting pictures of themselves shit faced or in bikini's etc.

It just seems common sense to not post anything you don't are about anyone seeing as there's no guarantees of privacy online. But I guess many just don't care or don't think about it.

O I understand, I am only in my late 20s and I am the same way. I see people post on facebook all the time stuff like "yay I am going on Vacation till Friday" or "Going to a party in Michigan tonight, hate the 2 hour drive but love that I get to drink and crash at someone elses place". So freaking stupid. Add in all the personal information they post like birth dates and what not and its just a matter of time before a few people get robbed virtually or IRL.

Then you can post notification of it on foursquare.

-Next Day-

Friend> Holy shit someone broke into my house and stole all my brews
Myle> Why am I friends with you
Myle> And for fuck sake, buy better beer[/QUOTE]
I think that's more likely.

The oldest of my younger sisters is about 2 1/2 years younger than me. It's always amazed me how much, within the short span of time that she was still in high school and I wasn't, it has influenced our opinions regarding social networking and the like. When I was in high school, no one knew who Tom was, and he certainly didn't have millions of friends. There was even still that lingering perception that using the internet was largely for geeks.

Fast forward a couple years, and everyone is on MySpace. I think, largely because it was new and exciting (and partially because my sister has always been an "oversharer"), my sister really dove in. These days, she posts pretty much every detail of her life, no matter how private it should be, on her Facebook page. She really has no sense of nor any desire for privacy on the internet. I, however, am much like you in that I'm really hesitant in posting certain details of my life online. I even give a lot of posts here I make a second thought.

What's funny is that the people addicted to the social networking sites often times can't do anything else on a computer. It's basically a facebook machine.
