Oh man was that ever an awesome show. I was hoping they'd give Aries the belt since they'd set Roode up as the X division-hating heel and in order for that division to not be buried, and to get over the X Title sacrifice stip, Aries had to win and wow he actually did. I was thinking about what to do next and while Bully-Aries II for the title would make sense for the next PPV, I doubt they'll do that unless the Abyss/Joe Park deal is done. Anyway, onto the show as a whole. JB was fantastic, and I'd prefer he and Tenay do commentary all the time since Taz is just on auto-pilot. The opening 4-way was a pretty good showcase of moves. Jigsaw looked great throughout out, and Only's jumping sorta-piledriver with the feet thing on him was great. Scorpio Sky's TKO was impressive too. Kash-Sky was pretty good. Sky's running high knee shot to the jaw looked sick. Schoolboy finish gave them the chance to do a rematch at some point in the future while also setting up Sky as an underdog throughout the night. Joe's promo with Christy's tits was good.
Loved seeing Doug Williams back on PPV. Kinda surprised TNA didn't have King change his ANX twtiter handle. Loved JB talking about NWA Wildside. Williams was so great here - made me want to see him face Finlay. King's fireman's carry uranage didn't look nearly as good here as it did on Impact, but I'm glad King won. Poor Rashad Cameron had Sonjay land on his gut and nuts during the moonsault double stomp. Sick-looking finish there. Loved Rashad pouting at Earl earlier for not counting 3. The Sorenson video was outstanding - he's got a nice-looking GF. I was surprised that he got as good a reaction as he did - complete with some nice signs and everything since they didn't really mention him at all in the build to this. Loved having Ion act like a dick to him after his promo to set up a future match for them, and the amount of future-building done tonight was impressive because with Ion as champion, say Sorenson wins the title at Lockdown, beats a bunch of dudes leading to a theoretical match with Ion at next year's D-X BUT he has the belt and has to decide whether he faces the world champ, or tries to defeat the man who paralyzed him. Nice and simple, and it could be intriguing. Ion beat Flip Kendrick in an okay little match. Loved Ion getting the

out of the way before the shooting star ass drop could come anywhere near him - his snap Gory special drop looked great. Better than that reverse DVD-facebuster thingy.
Joe-Angle was better than their recent Impact match, and felt more like classic Joe than anything he's done in a while, including his tag matches with Magnus. Loved the super-slow Angle slam only getting a 2, and Joe actually winning, and doing so in a way that made him look better than Angle. Made him pass out with the choke. I was impressed to see Angle do a missile dropkick off the top, and couldn't believe Joe did a flying leg lariat off the top. AJ and Daniels have had five billion matches over the past decade, and they somehow managed to have one that seemed different. I loved Daniels taping his fist up so that while showing his whole hand, only the middle finger is visible. Instead of just doing movez!, they focused on beating the shit out of each other. It's a shame they didn't really do a better job setting up WHY this needed to be a last man standing match, because in that sense, it was kind of a waste of the stip. The thud Daniels' head made off the moonsault DDT on the ramp was sick. Loved Kaz knocking AJ off the ramp and AJ just flinging himself off the ramp as far as he possibly could. Clash off the ramp was a hell of a finish - sure beats getting kicked in the ass through a table. I liked the little live Twitter deal they did throughout the show - it looked really well done and made for a decent way to fill time and build up matches.
The Ultimate X was better than the one they did on TV, but definitely way below the standards of the best matches in its history. Can't believe Sonjay came back after the shoulder injury - he's a tough dude, and hopefully that led to him getting a renewed permanent gig with the company. He was absolutely insane to climb to the top of the lighting rig and walk on it with basically only one arm to keep himself steady. When he and Ion slugged it out on top, you could actually see the metal X structure moving around a bit. Absolutely terrifying spot. The hairspray in the eyes on top of the X rope leading to Sonjay bumping off of it was also scary. Glad to see Ion get the title, and I hope Sonjay, Kenny King, Scorpio Sky, and Jigsaw earned themselves regular roster spots. His post-match promo was great, and I LOLed Christy sending it back to "Mike and Taz". The main event didn't start off too great, but had a tremendous ending with the near-falls leading to a punk>brainbuster for the definitive clean as a sheet win for Aries. The crowd went nuts for this and the big confetti celebration made this seem historic. Last year's D-X show underdelivered, while this one greatly exceeded my expectations in part due to about half the card not being known beforehand. I'm actually glad they're doing that 7 PM Impact pre-show because it's a great way for them to really make this win seem like an even bigger deal without needing to take up Impact's TV time to do it.
