Tonight Show Shakeup Leno Back In
Epic. Great ending and touching speech. The Fallon intro was solid, too.

Just watched tonight's show. It was great and sad. Watching Conan and co. play Freebird was fun and kind of sad again (plus I'm a guitarist and it was cool to see Conan play!).

I think Conan is the genuinely nicest guy on late night (or was) and I'm sad to see him go. I'm happy that people like that do get to rise to the top of their profession because sometimes it doesn't happen. I particularly liked his speech where he told people to not be cynical and to persevere and good things will happen.

All around class act I think and I will miss him from late night
I totally agree. His speech was amazing. You could tell he was getting teary eyed. It was a joy staying up late to watch his show at 12:30 then for a brief time at a 11:30. I have no doubt in my mind Conan WILL BE BACK and HE WILL KICK LENO AND NBC's BUTT!!!

I have no doubt in my mind that he's working on a deal with someone to come back in September.

It was an awesome show, and Conan was a class act.

Great show, Neil Young did a great job with Long May You Run (God I'm grateful that he didn't do a song off of his new shit album) and he sounded just like he did when he recorded it nearly 40 years ago, absolutely brilliant.
Tom was great as usual and I loved the whole scotch bit....But Will Ferrell and the Free Bird ending was perfect. I'm not a Will fan, hell one could even call me a hater but it was a perfect ending for Conan's short run. Hell I think his speech before Will put a tear or two in my wife's eyes since it was very touching.

Speaking of someone that I never liked Fallon's intro was also epic.

Agreed. Incredible speech by Conan. So genuine. And Fallon's intro was gold as well (I tried watching the rest of the show, but struggled to be entertained by it except for a few of the "Thank You note" bits)

I gotta have more cowbell, baby.

Epic end to short lived epic show with my favorite late night host. Beck, ZZ Top? Awesome. Cannot wait for him to show up again in the fall.

Trying to be entertained by Fallon is harder than Demon's Souls.

Good bye sweet coco bird... goodbye. This sucks. I hate my life now... I need a ME2 dose stat!

But man, how awesome would it be if someone gave you 43million dollars to take a 6 month Vacation... ugh, that would be soooo nice.

Ben Harper and Beck playing Freebird with them was awesome, and Conan's guitar solo!!

Classy speech, can't wait to see Conan on TV again. I'm officially uninterested in late night shows now unless a guest I want to see is on.

I started watching Conan all the way back in middle school. Sad to see him go though the last show was quite good and the speech is something to take to heart.

that was some great TV. You could feel the emotion in his last speech. Its insane that NBC was willing to lose him. Leno has done nothing even close to that great.

Trust me the weather in LA has been really bad these past few days. Its a good chance the people waiting for his show even had to sit in hail to get their seats. I think I'm going to keep that show on my tivo for awhile. I guess I'll have to hunt down episodes of conan online and watch the episodes I missed.

I loved the speech by Conan. Been watching him for so long now on NBC, it's tough to see him leave. Really hope he gets a good gig somewhere else.

I was really hoping for a line up of every character he has ever aired do one final appearance. I honestly felt more touched in his speech than the speech he gave during the final Late Night episode...and of course this one was much better than Leno's tonight show finale.

I feel bad for saying last night was the first time I've watched Conan in months(work reasons). But it was a great last show excpet I was hoping to see WIll do a little more then her did. Still I had to laugh when he pulled out a cowbell.
Will miss Conan.. this sucks..
I have no doubt in my mind that Conan WILL be back.

I wonder if his release agreement also means that he cannot work for NBC or it's partners as well? Meaning can he be a guest host on SNL?

I was also thinking about the money NBC is going to pay his staff. I am glad Conan fought for it because I could see that if he didn't. Those people who lost their jobs because of the bickering between NBC and Conan could sue both of them. Why should a cameraman with years of excellent service lose his job because his boss (Conan) said no to NBC without his (the cameraman's) knowledge?

When it comes down to numbers, I think the little guys (stage hands, camera operators, etc) will come out getting atleast 1 years pay, full medical coverage, and some type of amount to cover the cost of moving back to NY if they decide to do so. See that's what we need to hear from, the little people we don't see on tv.

I liked Conan....but I won't lie....when he switched from 1135 to 1035....I never watched him. So you could say I was apart of the problem.

Some people have an LA personality and some have a NY personality. Leno looked great with his set and his interviews and his outside skits. Conan looked...weird. But, he looked great with his immature skits at that later time slot.

I watched him this week but it was only to see what would be said. Probably won't follow him to Fox or wherever unless it's back to a more "other" type of humor like he had before.

Masturbating bear > ______

....With all this typed....I still think Leno is better. He tells jokes like a guy at a party without having to do weird expressions and attention grabbing moves like Conan. I've always saw Leno as someone who could navigate through a crowd and Conan as someone who would draw a crowd. I think that's why so many people loved Leno when he was the host. I usually caught Leno's show before he would do interviews (which are the most boring part of late night)

ugh...that is all I can really say to that.....

You would rather watch someone who, according to you, is just another face in the crowd rather than the guy that is drawing the crowd? Your sense of humor must be bland to enjoy Jay's sold out company man routine over Conan's.

Jay Leno is the Nickelback of late night comedians.

^Agreed

Although next to the other posers left that was handed a show I'd pick Leno too... I feel bad for Fergusion, he's cool but isn't well received by all.

it's all about what you're looking for. personally i find all talk show skits really annoying and unfunny. masturbating bear? oh, yes, how hilarious. it's funny because it's masturbation, right? that's why it's funny? yes, that's rich.

i don't watch talk shows often, but when i do, i think of it sort of as eavesdropping on a conversation at a dinner party, with a charismatic guy that's really good at small-talk (the host) and someone with, hopefully, interesting things to say (the guest). that's all it is to me. like eavesdropping on someone's conversation. for me there's absolutely nothing funny about conan pretending to be a puppet, making stupid voices, or paying someone to wear a bear suit and rub their junk. those are just not funny things. for the job -- which, to me, is to be good at small-talk with the guests -- conan was never a great, especially since moving to the tonight show, where he seems to have gotten more reserved (coming off as less approachable, less honest). even jon stewart's better at the small-talk host thing, and leno is way better (though a less funny person, to be sure).

i think strongpimphand is spot on when he praises leno's hosting ability by saying he'd be good at a dinner party. that's what a talk show host should be, at least IMO. but, of course, if you're looking for a bunch of low brow sketches then you're gonna be disappointed with the guy.

Conan would be an excellent dinner host, and I'll cite as evidence any of the times he went out and adlibbed his way through something. He's lightning quick on his feet and hilarious. Go look up when he played old school baseball, or went ice skating, or (if I remember correctly) tried to cross the Canadian border, etc. Some of the best stuff he ever did was during the writers strike. Were other talk show hosts even trying to do stuff, or did they just play reruns?

But no. You just keep citing Masturbating Bear as the only thing he does, or can do, or whatever, praising your own ignorance of something as valid discourse. Let's focus on 0.0001% of what Conan has done and blanket that over everything else he's done in over two decades.

What? Leno is probably the worst late-night interviewer I've ever seen. He comes off as uninterested and insincere, and spends more time looking at his little notecards than the guests.

THOSE SHOWS WERE SO GOOD.

Why don't you just watch Letterman then... ?

i only mentioned masturbating bear because several people in this very thread listed masturbating bear as something The Tonight Show-Conan lacked. their claim was that Conan was better late night because he could do more "funny" things like the hilarious junk-rubbing bear. try to keep up.

That compilation on the last episode showed why his show was so great. Look at all the stuff he tried on his show. I liked the animal encounters the most.
Leno's hitting Oprah next week - step one in character rebuilding phase. And a good strategic choice.

Good thing I'm not a fool.
Indeed. In my ideal world Leno's show dies from poor ratings, people who refuse to be on his show, etc.

But I know that the LCD hee-haws of America will click right back to see "Jaywalking," like it's actually funny.

Aww... come on... You have to admit The Titanic sinking is pretty funny.

Agreed. The sad fact is most of the people who think that it IS funny would be people who would be on it. :)
